Took my Rog apart twice now and fixed the analog stick thanks to your video. Second time was only because the first time I didn’t tighten the screws down tight enough on the left stick so it was super jittery and it was so annoying, can’t believe it took me this long to fix it. Thanks again 🤙🏻
Thank you so much for this tutorial. My left stick wasn't working left or right but after watching this i ordered a standard replacement for £6 from eBay and was able to swap it out myself. Saved me having to go through Asus or paying for third party repair. Also gave a great feeling of achievement by fixing it myself 😊
I'm more then happy this helped you out and we're able to feel accomplished by completing a task like replacing a joystick 🙌thank you so much for watching! 🙏
Awsome video, I had to replace my display cable, accessories asus outta France, was only 3 days ,was 7$ cable and 25$ shipping to u.s. , yeah ordered on a sat and Monday they notified they sent it, and that Wednesday, 2 days later I had it and ally was back up and running, can't say I've had any proba with mine, good unit, no sd card issues, tend to play at 720p and try to keep temps 80 or below , already modded and git a 2tb 980pro 2280 drive under my battery , fits fine, got a 4tb silicon power on the way , clone it and add more games, got like 77 games tween 3tb :) can't wait to add more :)
Seems like a no-brainer to just use a HE sensor on the right and keep the original sensor for the eventual replacement of the left stick. The price sucks but my right stick has an issue that requires me to open it up anyway, so maybe I'll give this mod a go. Thanks for the install video. I'll need this later.
Thank you for this video and for covering the entire process here. I likwly won't go the hall effect joystick route but am looking to swap out my OEM joystick for an OEM replacement joystick. My left thumbstick is still working fine as far as the accuracy but is starting to make some slight grinding-like noises when moving it around now, so i would like to replace it very soon. My Ally also has a very tiny crack in the white casing on the bottom and after seeing the latest GN video on their warranty repair process ive decided against aending it to them even tho ive also had a non working sd card slot for several months. I just use a usb-c micro sd reader and a 2TB SSD is installed anyway.
As someone who has no experience with messing up with pcbs , Is it better to do it ourselves or just hire someone with experience (repair store) to do it?
If you choose to do it yourself, take your time, there is no rush. If you are the impatient type, then I'd suggest to let someone else work on the Ally. It's honestly not hard, it's all about pacing yourself ✌️
I'm wondering if I use the same metal that the analog joystick caps that's on a Xbox white controller.... I wonder would that help alot of the interferences or the antenna is causing it. Sounds like I may have to swap what's in there if that happens. I'll wait till someone figure that out
Off the new or old joystick? If it’s the new joystick return it and get a replacement, if it’s the old joystick, it won’t really matter and if it does you can order the old joystick for backup.
Do you recommend to play games with xbox controler always as primary controler? because Rog ally sticks are so soft(loose)not as hard (strengthen) as xbox controler, and I think they do not have adequate quality to play action games like CoD permanently
The hall effect joystick does help a ton, I do think it is much more comfortable gaming on a controller. Although it may be unrealistic to game with your controller everywhere you go. I don't think you want to stop by a cafe and whip out your controller.
I did a circularity test on my stock sticks and it draws square rather than a circle. Do you know how to fix that or is it normal the stock ones draw square?
Replaced the left stick on my ally because it wasn’t working left & right but when I did yes it works and all but it feels super loose and it’s all clickity from it being loose and it’s so annoying.
@@ChrisMizo yeah I plan to I bought extras just in case something like this happened. It’s odd tho it works perfectly fine and it looked good when I first installed it but oh well I’m gonna swap it out.
You only need to push down on the unremovable screw (what you called the "ground screw") to open the case. All Asus products work like this. No guitar pick required.
I dropped my ROG and after that the right stick began to move strongly to the right, i.e. the cursor is always on the right side. I disassembled ROG and ran into exactly the problem mentioned at 10:12, but the stick works the same way just like before i thought i disconnected it. so I think maybe this little thing came loose already when it fell and that’s why it’s buggy? if so, I’ll try to put it there again, but it's kinda tricky..
That could be the case, ribbon cables can be tricky and may seem that the connection is held especially when clipping on. Once you take it apart, to make sure the cable is in you’ll want to give it a light tug to confirm that the ribbon cable is secured. I hope this helps!
Question: are the plastic thumb caps, the part your thumb actually touches, a proprietary shape? I'd like to swap them out for some aluminum Xbox One Style caps if I could. Aluminum doesn't wear out the way plastic does
A thank you for saving me time, hassle, and probably money as well 🙏🏻
No problem at all! I appreciate your support and feel free to reach me at anytime ✌️
my left stick was going only up and down and I did not want to bother with an RMA. This was super easy to do, thank you!
Glad it helped!
Fr same here bro
Jesus same here. Wtf Asus
same
Same here

Did you calibrate the joysticks before testing them. There is a calibration menu it even helps the stock joysticks
Yes I have, personally I think it’s best to leave stock joystick on the left and to change out to a HE joystick on the right.

Nice video mate good format keep more coming
def will, thank you!

Interesting. I saw another video where they installed it with other stuff for magnetic interference too. This looks a bit better though
Yeah, aluminum tape and a magnet so that way you don't have to put in dead zone.

Great vid very informative 👍🙏🙏😘
Thanks , my first Ally's right stick died after only 3 days. It's good to know that it's easy to replace.
Luckily it is that easy 👌

Are the stick any stiffer? The stock are sloppy as hell
about a 5% difference, notable on accuracy
Strange that they made exactly same size 😮
Close, just the joystick covers are shorter.
@@ChrisMizo thats strange
Do u have a link for a joysticks themselfs? Like the black caps that u said came in to small 9:26
Shielding helps a massive amount. Not installing anything is pretty silly

I didn't remove it from the notch. I have to attach it back to the unit but how do you click it back in place.
Dead link to the joysticks....any idea where you can get them?
onexplayerstore.com/products/joystick?variant=47017705537830
Sorry about that. They changed it up, here’s the new link.
@ChrisMizo so the onex player mini 1195G7/5800u is the correct one that is needed for rog all replacement?
Which part number did you use?
Onexplayer1
@@ChrisMizoX1 or 1/1S?
What happen if i forget to disconnect the battery and change the sticks?
The ribbon cable on the 2nd controller came off, there was no damage am I cooked

Do you think an Xbox thumbstick would fit on oryginal joystick ?
Unfortunately Xbox thumbstick will not work with the Asus Rog ally.
Are the sticks any stiffer than the original? I don’t like the original sticks they have too much play for fps
not really, still a bit wobbly but more stable
Does it have clicking noises like the official Asus Rog Ally joysticks?
yes
Do these joysticks make that much of a difference?
absolutely they do
Wheres the RF shielding for the left stick??
rf shielding won't do much for the left stick, it's more of the magnet interference with the left trigger and left stick.
So may I ask do we need the anything else to prevent the magnetic disruption on the left stick?
Mine came with "shelding paper" to prevent interference
Bro i did everything correctly and now it womt turn on, can i buy a replacement wire for the battery?
Connect the ally to power source and turn it on
My rog ally right joystick had stick drift
Why?
Do you recommend to play games with xbox controler always as primary controler? because Rog ally sticks are so soft(loose)not as hard (strengthen) as xbox controler, and I think they do not have adequate quality to play action games like CoD permanently

Yeah my ally left stick is being worn down by the light ring
i recommend getting joystick protectors, that'll prevent anymore wear on the rgb rings.
I did a circularity test on my stock sticks and it draws square rather than a circle. Do you know how to fix that or is it normal the stock ones draw square?
Try a different stick set as some are flawed from my experience
The link for the hall effect joystick says page 404 not found, do you know what model of one x player these are from?

Replaced the left stick on my ally because it wasn’t working left & right but when I did yes it works and all but it feels super loose and it’s all clickity from it being loose and it’s so annoying.
If it's super loose the stick can be faulty, I'd swap them with different ones.
@@ChrisMizo yeah I plan to I bought extras just in case something like this happened. It’s odd tho it works perfectly fine and it looked good when I first installed it but oh well I’m gonna swap it out.
The link for this vid is the wrong thumbnail, it's for a completely different TH-camrs channel ..
Does it fix dead zone ?
absolutely

Even del g15 laptop
Hey anyone knows where I can buy the shielding tape for the hall effect because mind didn't ship with one?
Why does it matter to unplug your batter when it’s at 15% vs 100%?
it's a recommended precaution for electrical discharge
It doesn’t. Use a grounding/anti static wrist strap.

That is kinda a cool thing to do but yeah it is expensive to just get 1. Might be fun for Call of duty but realistically it's a non issue either way.
Dissect?? Drain the battery? Oh god -walks out-
They dont fix everthing kk the owners have to do all alone like me ❤❤

Question: are the plastic thumb caps, the part your thumb actually touches, a proprietary shape?
I'd like to swap them out for some aluminum Xbox One Style caps if I could.
Aluminum doesn't wear out the way plastic does
elite joystick caps will not fit, the standard series s/x controller joysticks will.
@@ChrisMizo that's perfect. Would be a great add on to go with the hall effect stick modules.
Lol I got stick drift after playing over 100 hours of cod

Worst game consoles 1- Asus rog ally 2- Nintendo switch 3- Xbox
