    bought a feiyue fighter 1 ( same as eagle 3 just has a different short track truck body) for my 8 year old, he absolutely loves it , I was kinda into r.c. trucks and had a couple 1st generation tmaxx gas trucks when they came out. . many moons ago . this little machine is the gateway drug back into the world of r.c. , weve pushed this feiyue pretty hard doing some really crazy jumps but its taken its toll, motor has lost its cooling fins and jammed it up, i picked out the pieces and its running but for how much longer I can't believe very long, front axles aren't the best design and have little material near the metal stub shaft, replaced with similarly sized traxxas units i removed the stubs and drilled out the hole to accept the feiyue stubs, thst snd shortened them about 1/2 inch and they're running good so far , we had the rear differential give up. the spider gears stripped out so we degreased the diff reassembled and filled with jb weld creating a locked rear diff. to be honest handling, and slow speed stuff like tight turns weren't affected by locking the rear diff and it makes it easier to climb up tougher obstacles with less throttle. . overall im happy with it and think that I am going to be doing the brushless conversion this week. . ive got the bug and I barely get to play with the thing , I guess daddy is just part of the pitcrew ...so I reached out to a buddy who has a small r.c. business and is a redcat dealer so now a brushless blackout truck is getting picked up later this week, along with the parts i originally called him about for the feiyue ..this is how it starts I guess.

    Excellent job, in fact i did the same with my FY-02 but then some; 540 size 16turns brushless (about 3800KV) 1:10 tamiya tble-01 esc from my wrecked Tamiya Levant (piece of sh#%#$) and offcourse a 3 wire servo and seperate receiver. And the stock Li-Ion battery pack performs like a 2s lipo which was a surprise since i run a big block so thats a keeper too, tried 3s lipo but i wish to keep the stock axles in one piece as long as possible and hate traction rolling while cornering so 3s a no go.
    I already own a traxxas Summit and Slash both 1/16 and did some measuring and sure enough the suspension rockers from the Slash 1/16 are a direct fit on this chassis, you can even use the long travel ones (used in the back on traxxas) as i have. Gives you about 15mm more upwards travel and 5mm droop.
    Slap in some ball bearings instead of the nylon bushes and you've got way more suspension travel. i even kept the stock front shocks and filled them with 70wt oil, used two o-rings from the 1/16 traxxas shocks and on top the bladder, works great and do not even leak (try that with the traxxas units...)
    oh and ditch the springs and instead take the rear ones and shorten them about 1cm shorter than the stock ones this way you can set your rideheight as it's supposed to (stock ones are too long so you don't have the option to lower the rideheight and set some droop in the suspension.
    For the rear just get some descent 90mm oil filled shocks, i again used the levant ones and a soft spring from the slash 1/16, the spring sits under the shock body instead of over it and this way it's just the right length and suppleness.
    With this setup my FY-02 is just as fast as my mini Summit (i even use the same wheels/tires) and just as capable offroad but jumps waaay better, it's nose heavy on slow jumps and lands on all 4 when you gun it, just love it. It does jump flatter than my summit (shorter wheelbase is it's main shortcoming in that regard).
    i'd say with some modding this chinese rig is more bang for the buck than a traxxas 1/16, being slightly lower build quality but not by much.
    The diffs are tough but fitment is a laugh, but it's actually a good thing since the slghtly 'gritty' feel off the diffs (resistance in the spidergears) does in fact acts like a limited slip and keep the wheelspin from a unloaded tire to a minimum.
    Same as thicker diff fluid in the traxxas as long as it doesn't bleed out like it most always does, access to the diffs is better too just a few screws and you can take it out together with the CVD halfshafts in one go, thumbs up for that.
    As long as the Feiyue stays in one piece i'll keep modding it and both my 1/16 traxxas are demoted to shelf gueens.
    just my 2 cents... i'd say grab one, do some modding and be amazed!
    Traxxas rockers > TRX7158
    Optional baerings > TRX5124 x2

      +Nathan ter Stege Hey thanks! That is some great information, I'm definitely gonna check out the 1/16 traxxas suspension rockers that sounds great. I agree it is a great rig for modding on the cheaper side that's for sure.

    • @nathanterstege4170
      @nathanterstege4170 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Void X RC You are welcome. Just make sure you get the rockers for the Slash 1/16 NOT the e-revo/summit as they are too big (you might be able to use them together with adjustable push/tie rods)
      as said the slash ones a a direct fit and come with nylon bushes which work great when new, as you know the feiyue rockers don't use any bushes/bearings for the rockers. Oh if you go with the long travel or rear rockers you do need to shave of some material from the body post mounts in front of the shock mounts and the one between the shocks (same mount just bolted down in 2 different places). shame i can't post a pic...

    again, great video!!!also if you want to put oil in the stock shocks,just be sure to order 4x 1/16 rally/slash shock rebuild kits and some medium weight shock oil because the internals have some pretty big flow holes.the top and bottom seals work perfectly and makes a big difference as far as handling!!!..and I made a c.f. battery tray that mounts the battery where the esc unit is to compensate for the wheel lift that happens at half throttle after I added a 2838 6200kv motor with 28t pinion and mounted the hobbywing 120a esc in the battery tray.later I'm gonna try my 1/16 slash upper rotating stock mounts with sealed bearing to see if it will reduce some of the friction in the suspension components.

    To all you guy's running a FY-01 < - > FY-04;
    I found one anoying weakspot in the driveline, not so much because it wasn't well engineered but due to the fact the china men not like so much the thread locker ;-( The front pinion for the differental is screwed on to the connecting rod to the center driveshaft, as said NO thread lock used so it will loosen in time and if you are lucky you can just put it together no harm done. In my case the pinion got stripped of it's splines... end of that one. Because of my foreseeing abilitees i already ordered a spare front and rear diff although not expected to arrive for another 2-3 weeks (oh joy) So i superglued it on for the time being, no fun running just RWD with locked diff
    The rear diff pinion doesn't have the same issues because of it's reversed rotation (it's mounted backwards if you know what i mean) however if you use 100% reverse frequently it too will become loose so might as well fix that too.
    Remember Thread locker is your friend, it's also great for those stripped out screw holes; dab of locker in the hole, loosely fit the screw and let the thread locker cure and then hand tighten (more finger tighten with this plastic).
    happy wheelin'

      @VoidXRC  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Nathan ter Stege Hey great info thanks! luckily I've already thread locked in the front driveshaft screws and I'm running an axial driveshaft in the back which is already thread locked too.

    I have FY06 RC car. I have 45A ESC and 2845 3100KV motor. and it is starting very very slow. No power at all.
    May be I have bought wrong motor or a ESC?

    • @VoidXRC
      @VoidXRC  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you have a good ESC and motor. I run a a 1980kv motor in my fy06 and while it is not very fast it has a lot of power. From what you describe it sounds like something is wrong. My be you got a bad motor or something. I would contact the customer support where you got the motor. I not heard of that kind of problem before unless the pinion or clutch is slipping

  • @tonygordon2963
    @tonygordon2963 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've got the same motor and that thing will fly. It does wheel stands from 1/4 throttle on. The only issue I have is when it encounters any sort of resistance. If I stop in grass it won't roll and the motor will just click. It acts like it has no power. It definitely can't climb any sort of an incline but on flat pavement the thing will do at least 50 mph. I just can't get the thing to have any power when climbing.

    • @VoidXRC
      @VoidXRC  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's how sensorless brushless motors work. They have very bad low speed performance and barely any torque on the low end. it's been a problem since brushless motors were first introduced. Now a sensored brushless motor is different and have lots of torque on the low end and are good for crawling.

    • @solidbox83
      @solidbox83 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Void X RC thanks for the reply. It's hard to find info on things like that. I'll be on the lookout for a sensored motor. I read that getting a lower kv motor will also add some low down power. So I've got one on order. Hopefully it'll slow it down a bit and add some climbing power.

    Hi, Also I have the same motor as you but the 4500kv version instead of the 5000kv version. But what screws did you use to secure it to the motor mount ? Because when I go to use the stock motor screws that came with the truck they are too small and they just slide in and out of the motor. Please message me back to help and if possible send me the part numbers

    • @VoidXRC
      @VoidXRC  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +skinpounder666 The screws the new motor use are M3 size screws and need to about around 7-8mm long. You also need to drill out the mounting holes with a 7/64" drill bit(2.77 mm drill bit in metric). I just had some spare screws laying around that I used. If you don't have any spares just searching 'm3 screws' on banggods has a ton of results, can get a cheap pack something like this: bit.ly/1S7xQM6

    Is the radio reciever after market or was it the original one that came with the car? I'm getting this car and doing the same conversion as you and I've ordered the same motor and servo as you (with an already made pinion hahah). I was just wondering whether I have to purchase another reciever or if the original one will work fine. Also, how could I add LED lights.

    • @VoidXRC
      @VoidXRC  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is after market, the stock receiver is combo'd with an esc and only works with brushed motors. you can add lights in a couple of different ways. There are a lot of inexpensive led setups that get powered off of a spare slot in the receiver.

    • @robbiechechelnitskiy904
      @robbiechechelnitskiy904 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      oh i see. Are there any receivers that can bind with the stock transmitter?

    • @VoidXRC

      I don't know of any that would, it'd be nice if there was.

  • @rsrc4464
    @rsrc4464 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    So, you replaced the esc, receiver, and motor. Drilled out the old pinion to fit new motor. That's it right? Does the stock transmitter work with the HK receiver? Mine is coming in the mail and I'm looking into a brushless setup for it too.

    • @VoidXRC
      @VoidXRC  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Team Steami I also replaced the servo, as the stock one is one of those cheap 5 wire servos that is controlled by the ESC it's self. The stock transmitter doesn't work with the HK receiver I installed. It definitely gets a much needed boost in power for brushless.

    • @VoidXRC

      There are two little brackets that come with the servo, they fit over the tabs with the holes. then you secure the servo to the chassis via the 2 brackets.

    basicly need to change everything and still not waterproof...nce work you did though...but i fought you were going to show us how to, and not just what you have changed...i notive you also changed the servo system i believe(im newbie) the thing that steers....one of its issues is the huge dead zone, mostlly due to the steering system, but inotice you changed for a more precise one, the screw system with is more precise then that pressure lock. Do you have video where it shows how you made it...im thinking of buying one of these...its all i can afford although i like rock crawler and trail finders this one is super cool for the price and i believe good choice to start this hobbie thing :)

      I do have a video explaining a better way to mount the servo. One thing you have to be aware of if you are going to remove the servo savor is it's a lot easier to break the servo/steering components if you run into an object at high speed there is no longer anything to give in the steering system.
      hopefully this explains mounting the servo better. th-cam.com/video/CwkXVoCNSOU/w-d-xo.html

      +Jake Bullit The new servo fits in the stock servo bracket but the stock servo had two screws per side and the DS-238MG servo only has one screw per side. I had to cut a little bit of plastic from the mounting tabs on the servo. That was all I had to do to get it to fit.

    How do you airfill the tires

    • @VoidXRC
      @VoidXRC  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      After you've plugged up the holes on the inner part of the wheels and taken out the foam, you just basically re-assemble the beadlock and tire. Since it's an off road vehicle you don't need a high pressure. If you do want a little bit more air in them though assemble them in the coldest place possible as cold air is more dense. When the air inside heats up again it will expand a bit.

    if i replace my esc and motor to brushless ones, i have to replace also the servo? so a 3 wire servo is compatible with the new esc?

    • @VoidXRC
      @VoidXRC  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +iamadroid Yes you have to also replace the servo too. The stock ESC is a combined ESC/Receiver and controls the 5-wire servo. So when you replace the stock ESC for a brushless one, you have to get a separate receiver and a new servo(a normal 3-wire one). Both the new ESC and the new servo plug into the new receiver.

      For servos other than the corona DS238MG(linked in the description) and the "official" Feiyue upgraded one I don't. I do think the corona DS238MG is a much better servo than the Feiyue one. Here is the link to the Feiyue one: www.banggood.com/Feiyue-Upgraded-FY-S3-2_8KG-3-Wire-Servo-With-Metal-Gear-Car-Part-p-1060092.html?p=AF261224072852015082
      For motor/escs there is quite a few options. I'm personally running the 3100Kv version of: www.banggood.com/Racerstar-2845-Motor-Brushless-Waterproof-Sensorless-35A-ESC-Combo-112-114-RC-Car-Parts-p-1113519.html?p=AF261224072852015082

      battery works fine the only thing that works is the steering?

    • @VoidXRC
      @VoidXRC  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It sounds like it is either a speed controller or battery problem. Speed controllers have a low voltage cut off so if the battery is below a certain voltage the speed controller cuts power to the motor and only the servo will work. If the battery is actually fine and is fully charging then the speed controller is most likely the problem, or could be a loose wire.

    • @freddybelliard9647

      Ok, so the only thing you did was pull out the old motor and stick the new one in and it doesn't work? I'd suggest taking the motor out and using a couple of AA batteries to verify that the motor works. If the motor does work, then it sounds like the problem is with the speed controller.

    What motor, servo and ESC would you recommend for a general good quality upgrade (without spending big bucks) for someone who is not so much interested in speed but reliability when taking this buggy out crawling around on the desert floor ....... some rocks, brush and such but no super crawling over big boulders and such ...... Also for going on some tall (3 inch) grass at parks and such. Will only use a 2S battery.

    • @josephschmoberg6778
      @josephschmoberg6778 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, I went with the motor and ESC you suggested, but may go with the Feiyue upgrade on the servo because it will fit without me modifying anything and it is far better than what I have now. I have a FlySky GT3C and a few of their receivers, so I'm set. I got a program card also for the ESC.
      What you think ?

    • @VoidXRC
      @VoidXRC  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It looks good, the feiyue upgrade servo does work ok. I have installed and used one but it felt a little weak to me. The mod that I said is very easy, as in you just have to cut 1 corner off a little bracket that comes with the servo. You put the little bracket that comes with it on each side of the servo and then just use a screw and nut on each side to hold it to the chassis. you do not have to drill holes either, you use the holes the original servo mourning arm used. I have a couple pictures here:
      imgur.com/DQfv0MF
      imgur.com/CVtbPgu
      As you can see its just a little bracket on each side. The servo is also stronger too. I just however noticed it is also out of stock, so I guess my be think of it for a future upgrade or something?
      Have fun RCin!
