    Joey was always the best…
    He represents us…
    He represents growth…
    He represents potential…
    Starting as a violent punk,
Then reforming to a rookie duelist,
Then a novice who took down champions and cheaters,
Then becoming a certified top tier duelist,
Then a full fledged world saving hero…
Unfortunately, he doesn’t always get the sweet victories he deserves (mainly due to some authorial BS)
    But that never stops him.
    He keeps persevering.
    Joey is the Best.

Kaiba literally took himself from an orphan to the head of a major corporation and the 2nd best duelist in the world without having to rely on the heart of the cards. Kaiba represents growth and potential and never cheated except against cheaters while Joey outright cheated on multiple occasions against non cheaters. Joey is literally such a bad duelist he could’ve beaten Yugi in the duelist kingdom finals and didn’t cause he didn’t understand strategy or basic math. Fact is if Joey didn’t have plot armour and didn’t cheat he would’ve been knocked out of duelist kingdom and battle city both times by Rex Raptor.
Even if Rex lost Red Eyes summoning one more monster would’ve won him the duel, time wizard doesn’t take your opponent’s life points. In Battle City Mokuba should’ve disqualified Espa, invalidated Rex’s loss, returned his dragon then Rex would’ve duelled Joey and beat him taking time wizard.

speaking of joey, part of me is always surprised joey and kaiba didn't have as much a rivalry/stories interact more considering how mant parallels the two have. joey has red eyes black dragon, kaiba blue eyes white dragon, joey grew up poor while kaiba is rich, the two both had abusive fathers and they care about their younger siblings. I remember reading about the creator of Yu Gi Oh that Joey is the strongest duelist even more than Atem and Kaiba. He even said he had to nerf Joey in the sense to make him closer to the readers and demonstrate growth. He wrote Joey that way to demonstrate how quickly he went from a nobody that barelly knows how to duel to become a top duelist in no time.
Heck in manga Joey never loses to Kaiba.

    Let's just put it this way;
First few episodes, Joey is basically hopeless - just learning how to play the game with a deck filled with nothing but normal type monsters and no magic or trap support. Within just a few _weeks_ of that...he's placing _Second_ in the biggest Duel Monsters' Tournament that the world has ever known. And then after that, he places fourth in the _next_ big tournament.
The fact that Joey went from Fool to Finalist in such a short time, is _literally insane;_ especially considering how badly he dueled in Duelist Kingdom.

Considering Yugi and Kaiba had connections to the ancient pasts and had the power to draw the card they needed in every duel they participated in, Joey would be the best “human” duelist that was the closest to be able to draw upon the power of the “Heart of the Cards.” He was also one of the only three duelists that was able to call upon the power of the legendary dragon cards Hermos to defeat the Orichalcos.

Joey lacks on all 2 departments:
    1. He is poor so no rare cards.
    2. He is inexperienced
    However, he is extremely cunning.
He is determined and quick to adapt to new situations.
He is a strategist that utilizes anything and everything in his arsenal.
Most of the times he loses a duel is because he has a "4th rate deck" because he buys shit cards + he has the mentality that "life is hard so to survive you need to get rich fast" and as a result he challenges his luck.
The same thing that ruined him family.
Because Joey knows that life won't give him any chances..... ever.
The only time life gave him hope, was when he met Yugi and thet became friends.
    Grandpa trained him
    Yugi believed in him
In the city finals Joey was using a broken deck to fight the final boss and he won.
Marik used all his tricks.... had an op burn deck.... had Ra.... and Joey won without a millennium item.
Same duel happened to Mai and she was standing there desperate.
Joey is by no means an Ace duelist but he has the determination to be one.

    @KingofBeasts444 ปีที่แล้ว +5

I'd say Joey's the best non-magically enhanced duelist. Yugi has Atem, Kaiba has his past self, Jaden has the Supreme King, Yusei has the Crimson Dragon, etc. I don't recall Joey even being able to see spirits really. I'd rank him just under every Protag and main rival (specifically only the rivals that can SEE spirits though.) Definitely above every main villain that isn't like a god like Don Thousand or Darkness. This also of course only counts his base skills. It would be very difficult to count his boost from Brooklyn Rage.

    • @Zong_Cheng
      @Zong_Cheng 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

S1 Jaden honestly beats Joey pretty handily. Even without Sabatiel to make plays on the same level as Ceremonial Duel Yugi wiping out the God Cards, Jaden defeats individual Sacred Beasts turn after turn with basic E-Heroes. Note: Sacred Beasts are repeatedly stated to be as powerful as the Egyptian Gods. The only DM characters who can canonically claim to have performed a similar feat besides the aforementioned Yugi are Ishizu (before past life shenanigans) and … yeah, just her. Atem technically beats Slifer but he couldn’t get it off the board, Kaiba can barely even beat God Cards with his own, Marik always has Ra, Mai steals Ra but can’t actually get rid of it if it is summoned, Joey was done for if Odion could manage his fake Ra etc.
Plenty of people would upscale from the S1 Jaden who beat Kagemaru but there are still some who can perform similar feats or better when the Sacred Beasts reappear in S3.
      1. Jesse forces Yubel-possessed Marcel to use Armityle > all 3 Sacred Beasts with his Rainbow Dragon.
      2. Adrian is obscenely confident he can beat the above Yubel after getting his Exodia deck and presses a stronger Yubel before they recovered their duel energy after Zane to body him.
      3. Jaden beats prime Yubel who specifically chose to not use the Sacred Beasts against him because the rest of her deck was better.
      4. Jaden’s final duel in GX involves facing post-BC Yugi/Atem with all three God Cards, matches Ceremonial Duel Yugi blow for blow and proceeds to beat up Slifer when Yugi and Atem are working together.
4.5. Ceremonial Duel Yugi < GX Yugi who specifically sends Jaden back in time to face post-BC Yugi (the ultimate duelist in his mind) to teach Jaden how to duel for fun again instead of winning. Implication being that GX Yugi can’t beat him so he needs the strongest Yugi to do so.
      5. BBT Jaden and no Stardust Yusei spend the movie carrying Yugi/Atem against Paradox with the strongest deck and cards in history. REBD and BEWD are worse than the 3 God Cards which implies Rainbow, Cyber End and Stardust Dragon are > 3 God Cards. Either way, BBT Trio >= DM Paradox > GX Paradox >= BBT Jaden > no Stardust Paradox > Stardust Yusei > no Stardust Yusei who is far more useful than Yugi against Paradox.

@Zong_Cheng - Pegasus says otherwise. Its already been said Joey is third best duelist. However this was during Aster's duel. Jaden isn't included so its up there for Jaden to take third best. If Joey beated Yami Yugi during battle city to get Red-Eyes back, and Jaden lost to that Yugi as Jaden went back in time, then its clear Joey XG version will most likely win.

@Zong_Cheng Number 5 though is interesting which is why I say most likely. Parodox isn't the Red-Eyes user, Joey is, the user and master of Red-Eyes. My favorite duelist ever. I think what makes him the best is the fact that he holds his own against duelists with OP cards and he plays for passion (playing the game for the game's sake). Not to mention his performance against Marik. Not an experienced duelist like Mai, not another evil force (Yami Bakura), not some egotistic rich boy like Kaiba, not even the Pharaoh himself could make Marik worry. Yet an average guy, with an average deck, a determination bigger than the empire state building, and a "give 'em hell" attitude made one of THE most dangerous villains shit his pants (that speaks VOLUMES)

this was a very interesting video so I was wondering do you think you could make more videos like this one analyzing what other characters true dueling skills or potential are, a character I was think you could do is Leo from 5d since he is kind of like Joey though the interesting thing about him is he doesn't have the luxury of having anyone to teach him how to be a better duelist and yet he is able to face off against a dark Signer and almost win though the dark Signer was one of the weakest ones but it still is a impressive feat, he was able to take advantage of Speed World 2 effect to help him in his duel with Lester and this was something his sister didn't even think of taking advantage of, as well as he even came up with a plan to get Lunas Ancient Fairy Dragon back from Lester and while Leo and Luna still lost their duel against Lester it is my opinion that they were both held back by the writers so they could easily have beaten Lester in the duel they had with him and could probably be made more impressive feat if you can believe Lester claims he is the second strongest member of the Iliaster and finally in Leos duel with Aporia while it is true he had a rough start to the duel the moment he got his confidence back he was able to counter all of Aporias attacks from hitting Jack and Luna now I am not sure if you think this would be interesting enough to make a video about since this doesn't really make him stand out as the greatest duelist and he isn't a main character so there's not that much to talk about Leo but I still feel like Leo has a lot of dueling potential that was never taken noticed of

I kinda disagree with people saying that Yugi having Dark Sage is cheating. The duels didn't all happen one after another so each of them had time before their duel to edit their decks to counter each other. Of course Yugi would take advantage of a card that he gave to Joey in the same way Joey took advantage of knowing Yugi would have the Summoned Skull in his deck. When you think about it he has no special powers , no god cards or ancient knowledge , yet he manages someone like Yami Marik to cripple in fear . And if that doesn't prove that Joey is among the greatest even Pegasus himself said that Joey is in 3rd place of the best duelist in the world he ever witnessed

(Not be about to win legitimately, and then some weird shadow realm shit happens, or win, but only because he threatened to kill himself) And I wanted to see Joey beat Kaiba. I think it would have added more to both rivalries (especially the former), if you knew both duelists were capable of winning.

    Here's Joey's feats
    Started as a rebellious person
Started to make progress against winners from the last tournament as example rex or mai these 2 were of the strongest yet
He became a bit more better against yugi wich isn't canon to the manga then he beated weevil and espa roba or whatever his name was both cheaters
Then he was beating mako then he got into battle city survived rahs beam not just that Joey took down marik and would've gotten rah Wich he wouldn't add to his deck since he doesn't knows any egypt even tough he lost he survived death and gave yugi the tip to win against kaiba and even got into his body and after he woke up he wonders where yugi and says why they care not about him instead then he would've technically won against yugi against all 3 Egyptian gods meaning hes the best character of all time

  • @daosxion776
    @daosxion776 ปีที่แล้ว

I think Joey in the future (the same time that Jaden goes to school) would definitely have a much much better shot at taking him down than 'end of battle city' vs jaden. My reasoning is Jaden's built his deck to be much more cohesive, a lot of his monsters are in an archetype that allows for combos for most situations, and it only gets stronger once he gets his neospacians.
Joey has a ton of brick cards that don't do much. There was a scene in the 5th season where joey actually bricks, and while he does treat his red-eyes as his ace monster it's a vanilla 2400 atk 7 star monster. Joey doesn't actually run any of the Red-eye archetype support cards. By Jaden's time there more support for Red-eyes which would help him unclutter his deck (why does he even run swordsman of lanstar and battle warrior?) of bricks.
It's also speculated that in friendly duels, Joey can even beat Yugi, as there was an unshown duel at the end of season 3 where he was about to duel his friend for his red-eyes, and while we weren't shown the result or duel the 4th either says that he beat yugi or they got way too close and yugi gave him his card back after anyways; I doubt the latter because yugi's fate altering effect only really works in duels that are of greater importance.

Regarding Joey winning against Jaden, unless Joey has upgraded his deck with more support cards to help him play his signature cards, I doubt he is gonna be able to handle Jaden.
Let's take into consideration a few things. Joey has to buy or trade to get new cards. Throughout the Yu-Gi-Oh!GX and 5D's series, we haven't heard anything regarding his status as a duelist or how has he lived his life. So for all we know, he is participating in tournaments with the same cards he used to play by the end of the DM series.
Meanwhile Jaden plays polymerization and combines whatever he wants, with whatever he wants, and gets a monster which has stats that are convenient for the situation he is in.
It's a no brainer that Jaden is gonna win against Joey.

Joey is the king of games and he always will be in my opinion
Joey has repeatedly shown a kind heart and passion for dueling he's never lost his purpose for dueling or his control (not counting mind control because it wasn't him in his mind) where as every other duelist has you could argue that yugi is similar since him and the pharaoh are different However I don't think yugi beats Joey without the pharaoh
Joey also proved himself in battle city where he WON against marrik (bad spelling) while technically he forfeited we can all agree he was one sentence from winning
On top of that as he refines himself he leans into red eyes black dragon and support cards more giving his boss monster the under dog lovable energy he has against Kaiba
Joey isn't gonna always win mainly because of his dependence on luck but he can't lose those strategies they are what make Joey himself the thrill of rolling a six or defeat of a tails keep his fans on the edge of their seat he could beat yugi if he put all his skill to work and hold that title as king of games from just about anyone
(Even Jaden/ yubel) and while not confirmed I feel that he inspired another duelist in gx like yugi did for Jaden
Someone else who carries the mantel of the mighty red eyes black dragon

I mean, it's easy to say he has the biggest progression when he starts out at the worst position. We never see how Yugi or Kaiba developed their skills (though there is a bit more of it in the actual manga, where the first time Yugi plays DM, he doesn't even really know the game and still comes out on top). So it's like saying that a 5 yr old has more potential when it comes to math tests, because they start out with nothing while you start by already knowing a good amount. There isn't any way to really draw a conclusion of what kind of peak Joey can reach.
A lot of people also usually say that Joey's deck is holding him back, but let's be real, neither of the Duelists really has a great deck when we go by that logic. And furthermore, the main drawback of Joey's deck, which is the luck factor, barely makes up the result. So I'd argue, better cards wouldn't change the results that much. Quite the opposite actually, because a lot of these luck based cards have quite strong effects if they work out. Which they usually do for Joey, so he is technically working with even stronger cards than his opponents.

Sure, even without that he’s one of the best in the world, but without his luck he belongs in the same tier as Mai, not as Yugi and Kaiba. It's important to note a few things from the manga, since manga is canon and the anime likes shitting on Joey for comic relief:
    - Joey and Yugi don't duel in Duelist Kingdom and Yugi gives Joey the price money, because he went undefeated in all official duels.
    - Joey and Kaiba don't duel in Battle City for 3rd place. The fact that Joey (actually) won against Marik and that Kaiba was unsure if a deck with Slifer and Obelisk would be enough to beat Marik speaks volumes.
    - Yugi himself says after the duel with Marik, that Battle City isn't over yet, because Joey should have been his final opponent. He takes out the god cards and goes on to duel Joey. The fact that Joey has Red Eyes back in his deck in DSOD implies he won. Pretty sure Kazuki Takahashi himself confirmed this, making Joey the only one except for Yugi himself to defeat Atem in the canon manga.
    - Kazuki Takahashi said that Yugi and Kaiba are weak compared to Joey, because Joey has neither the money to buy an OP deck nor magical powers.
All in all I'd say the series ends with Yugi and Joey being stronger than Atem and Kaiba simply by feats and statements.
