@kyklous3657 The issue is that you needed to draw both. Yugioh anime does joey dirty just like they do everyone else dirty, dragonball has that same issue with their side characters that gets pushed to the side so that the protagonist can grow and get better in their own story.
Yeah but the closest thing I can think of to Joe vs Marik for Dragon ball would be Krillin vs Picolo, and even then that Picolo isn't trying to kill Krillin and isn't a complete Sadist like Marik. Krillin in theory had nothing to lose, yet he still fought well, and nearly won, but not only was that right before Z which is when most people would argue Dragon ball really started to get Popular, but also from that Point on, almost any and every antagonist has completely outclassed him, His best showing was against Nappa, and it would have been awesome if through strategy him, and Gohan had actually managed to finish Nappa off which the way the story was going they actually could have, and then had Vegeta be the enemy that caused Goku to step in, but instead Krillin couldn't land his Destructo Disk Either Time he used it in that arc, Failed to hit Vegeta when he threw the spirit bomb in Goku's place, and his role in fights only kept diminishing from there. The bare Minimum they could have done is have him fight a few random Frieza Soldiers to show that yes the power scaling was getting higher but just being an alien wasn't enough to inherently Beat out that human will! Like the idea of him picking off Frieza's minions while he isn't paying attention not only showing how little Frieza Cares for his grunts but also actively making him a more Proactive member of that arc would have been interesting to see from somebody who would otherwise have been completely outclassed! At least most of Joe's losses have him putting up a good fight...Except in that last filler arc against the guy with the pink hair with the Valkyrie deck Sorry if this comment got a little fan-fictiony there but I do genuinely think Krillin could have been a bit more relevant with a few minor changes!
I get that people love Joey but I want everyone to really think about what happened here. Duelist Kingdom. He snuck into that tournament, wasn't even invited and was still just learning the game at the time. He managed, with some help admittedly, to beat every duelist on the island he came across. The only one he lost to was Kaiba who at the time had only been beaten once by Yugi himself. The Finals. He beats Bandit Keith who not only was the former US Champion, not only did he steal Joey's entry card to try and have him disqualified, but he was literally cheating the WHOLE DUEL! After this he loses to Yugi but even then it wasn't an easy win, Joey really made him work for it. Then comes Battle City, another case where Joey entered when he really shouldn't have since Kaiba did not invite him. And once again he defeats every duelist he comes across. The Finals. Honestly, Joey shouldn't have won his duel against Odion, it's only because of Mariks interference and the fact that Odion accidentally played a counterfeit card that he ended up winning. But he did get his life points down to 200 so I'll give him credit for that at least. Then his duel with Marik and let's be honest here. Joey was 100% out of his depth here, it's made very clear that he would have lost MUCH sooner if Marik hadn't been toying with him. Marik didn't take him seriously at all and it almost cost him the duel, had he treated Joey as a viable threat from the beginning there's no way Joey would have pushed Marik as hard as he did. We can love Joey all we want but Marik going all out is simply a better duelist than him at this time. The fact that he was able to take a direct hit from Ra, and mind you this was a Shadow Game so everything happening was real. This man was literally being BURNED ALIVE and not only did he survive he still had enough strength to try and complete his next move that, had he been successful, he would have beaten Marik. Joey should be celebrated for all he was able to do and accomplish while technically still being an amateur. He wasn't done dirty because your favorite character didn't win.
You did forget to mention that he does defeat Yugi in the final scene of the Battle City Ark, meaning if he had defeated Marik in the tournament he'd have gone up against Yugi, most likely having given him Ra and Yugi not using any of the god cards, so Joey was on trek to be the King of Games. That could have been such impressive character growth to have Joey go from a guy who knows nothing about the game and bullying Yugi to becoming best friends with him and becoming the King of Games himself.
I know season 3 with the orchicalos arc was a divisive one. But I feel like Joey was at his aces in that arc. Winning every duel and basically being the duelist that developed the most from season 1 with his dueling skills in my opinion. His lost to mai was one that made sense for the context and I feel if he was his a-game. He'd have won that as well. The seasons after just kinda made this build up and development pointless
I think somewhere in the Yugi v. Joey characterization is that distinction of Protagonist v. Hero v. POV character. Like Yugi/Atem is definitely a protagonist but as a character that doesnt really need to develop or change... can we say either of them is the Hero? Or even always the POV character? Joey doesnt have Millennium Items, he doesnt have God cards, hes just a high schooler who wants to play a fun card game with his buddies. I think hes great as the relatable POV character or Hero thats relatable to the people watching the show and playing the same game IRL. Hes like the anchor, the humanity, amongst all these reincarnated Gods and Lords
Yami Yugi doesn’t come to mind when I think King of game. Yugi Moto all day the best. If he knows your deck, he’s like Batman. If you play him with something he doesn’t know about he’s like superman. Either way you’re gonna lose unless he lets you win. Yugi even sabotage Joey by giving him time wizard because he knew he was gonna end up dueling him in the end at some point.
I like the way little kuriboh's abridged series acknowledges Joey beat Atem offscreen with Swordsman of Landstar, which Atem had rifted on earlier in the series XD
Joey had pretty good development in the anime. Other then the fact he should have beat Marik. It's stupid he lost too Ziegfried too. He should have been able too beat that pink hair weirdo. But Joey is my favorite character in Yugioh. Sucks he has barely dueled in any of the movies too.
My only Jounouchi canon will always be his manga version. I really hate when in the anime he lose in the contest of strenght to Keith when in the manga he can punch the light out of Keith with little effort. He also very quick wit in the manga more than in the anime.
I thought Weevile and Rex's tournament at the beginning of the anime was only a regional so Weevile wasn't the best player in Japan, just in whatever region Domino City is.
Fun fact: Yugi's duel against Bandit Keith at the start of Season 2 is the anime's version of Yugi's shadow game against Duke's father as Yugi had to face both opponents without relying on his bond with Atem and ends up trapped inside a burning building because he refuses to release the puzzle (also Bakura saved Yugi and Atem in both situations).
The whole arc Duke arc is divided in three in the anime: - Rebecca vs Yugi to introduce a generational conflict - Yugi vs Duke to introduce Duke - Yugi vs Keith to introduce a moment in which Yugi has to face a serious challenge and is saved by Joey in the fire
@@fedrikrose2277 yeah. Also, the manga has Atem giving Joey the star chip upon learning he needs the money to save his sister. Also, he continued to practice everyday with Joey until it was time to leave for Duelist Kingdom and they met Mai before they even boarded the boat.
I know they made Yugi slightly taller as the series went on but holy crap he really was at best 3 feet tall wasnt he XD. And yeah, Joey was done dirty in the anime. I was surprised to see how good a character he was in the manga. Hell, everything related to "Season 0" material (the period where Yami Yugi casually set evil people on fire to burn to death) was great for his development.
The hell are you talking about? Joey's best duels are during anime only arcs, he was a terrible duelist for 90% of duelist kingdom and 100% of battle city
He'd been dueling for about 3 weeks by the end of the series and was a semi-finalist in Duelist Kingdom and a quarter-finalist in Battle City. He did it all on a high schooler budget with an abusive dad as well. Plus his opponents were all either cheating or Kaiba. On top of all that he was only 15, and the series takes place in the late 90s so he had no learning resources for the game either.
@@mujigant by the 1st episode he'd had already dueled teal for hundreds of rounds and lost Rex, Bonz, Weevil and Espa Roba (?) are younger than him Mai he beat without knowing what he was doing, he just go carried by Yugi's card Rex he beat without knowing what he was doing, he just got carried by Tristan's card After being semi finalist in DK he immediately lost to Duke because he still sucks at making decks The whole world revolves around dueling, hard to believe it is hard to learn He uses fuckin Battle warrior against people with egyptian gods, no wonder his supposed duel against Yugi where he gets Red-eyes back had to be done offscreen because there's no way that could've happened for real
@@mujigant did I lie? Because first of all I was talking how the anime made it better for joey by giving him more chances to stand out 2nd I literally referenced the manga where Joey states that he had lost hundreds of times to tea Him coming from a broken home is a weak argument where you have Kaiba, an orphan who had to be smarter than his step father who controlled the global arms market and overthrow him Or Yugi, another orphan who was the first one who told Joey how much his deck sucked without needing Yami/Atem's help for that
They do straight up "die" though, the shadow realm is a dub only thing, shadow games is the only canon thing within the continuity of Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters 🤔
Joes should have been the one to defeat Marik, not just because he was about to win and lose due to injuries but it would have been a great story telling twist no one would have seen coming, but no we have to give the win to the main character.
Even if Joey would have told Seto about Serenity, if it's not Mokuba, Kaiba doesn't care. Sure, he could have singlehandedly funded her eye surgery, but if it's not Mokuba, Kaiba doesn't care. Only if Mokuba were there to talk him into it.
I think there is a third and more likely option for the result of the duel between Joey and Yugi, they tied. I think this because I doubt Yugi would keep the title of King of Games into Yugioh GX if he had lost, even in an unofficial duel. He would have given Joey his due, being an honorable duelist and a good friend. However the fact that he earned red eyes back suggests he won, or at least put up a hell of a fight. A tie would satisfy both contlditions.
I love the first yugioh series. Pointing fingers, invisible guns and all. But I hate how they did Joey dirty. I hate seeing him as the butt of the joke and I hate seeing my beloved Red-Eyes Black Dragon losing to that Blue-Eyes Defanged Lizard.
it makes me angry how dirty they do him. kaiba has a toxic hate boner for him, yugi and the rest. dick the duke humiliates him and every duel he gets cheated. any op card he gets is completely nerfed. his duel with esper? his bros spied on him, jinzo's ability and his bs special armor to perfectly counter his time wizard strategy, odeon cheated when his card took no effect..... mako cheated when again, his card had no effect WHEN IT SHOULD HAVE AND HE WOULD HAVE AND SHOULD HAVE WON. vs yugi, red eyes lost a wing somehow, he and yugi both fell to the ground.... and marik is a dirty cheater too. the guy gets zero respect and its bad enough he talks too much while sounding like a unfunny clown
The thing is. If Joey either had a Summoned Skull or a Meteor Dragon while still having Red Eyes, he could have fusioned Black Skulldragon or Meteor B Dragon. Their we really have wasted potential.
So... I'm starting to realise that people don't realise how much was actually changed in the dub and think that it's only the manga with character development and dark subject matter and all character development was stripped from the anime. It wasn't. It was stripped from the DUB. Watch Yugioh in japanese and you'll realise most if not all the character develop you think was stripped out is still there.
So allegedly, Kazuki Takahashi wanted Joey to win the Battle City tournament, beating Marik and then Yugi, where instead of the god cards, he would get back his own Red-Eyes. The reason the story didn't go that way was due to the greatest enemy to any mangaka: editorial meddling. Shonen jump's editor for Yu-Gi-Oh basically told Takahashi that Yugi has to be the one to beat Marik because he's the protagonist. This is why, in the final version, Joey would have won if it weren't for Shadow Game BS. It was Takahashi trying to make Joey's character development as clear as possible while still complying with the editor's changes.
i dont like thinking that simply beating yugi makes you king of games. it would mean that yugi would have a much harder time trying out new cards and strats in his duels. the title its self would need to be put on the line in a duel somthing that would be done in a tornamet setting like battle city or when kiba challanges yugi its with the intent of taking the title. thats my take on the king of games title any way.
I disagree on that part. In the manga, Joey is a bum, with a drunk father. He built a "gambling deck" because he hoped for quick money to fix his life. In the anime, Joey is a comic relief but at the same time, he is our avatar. Joey is the casual thay enters and slowly learns the game. While Yugi and Kaiba are the top dogs, Joey is the underdog that slowly impress us. Most of his duels are more exciting that the rest + many people feel that he deserved more because the anime made him great
Are you Asian or Jamaican? I can't pinpoint your accent, and it was bothering me the whole video. Especially when you mispronounced Téa's name many times
Hoy Take: Battle City is the weakest arc in Yu-Gi-Oh history. Joey and Mai got turned into jobbers. Ryo, Tristan, Tea, Duke and Yugi where completely useless and Kaiba actively endangered the world.
Seto hates Jounochi (yes, I hate dub so I use original names) for being "a loser", yet there are plenty worse duelists. He reminds me of Yamcha, but much more useful.

Truly, Joey didn't deserve the treatment he got.
I understand why Joey shouldn't have been the one to defeat Marik but the least we could've gotten was Joey defeating atem for his red eyes and not just it being implied he won off screen
How could joey win if he can't even beat kaibia which yughi can beat and there is a way to counter skull dice I don't think is deck is strong enough
@UltimatePollo3495 that kaiba duel was filler. Plus you could always see it as a rock paper scissors type of thing.
@@UltimatePollo3495Because it's not that black and white. Just because A can beat B and B can beat C doesn't automatically mean A beats C.
@zacarnold2970 he could never beat yughi don't u know he can draw any card he wants and If he can't bey kaibia blue eyes how is he meant to beat yughi eygyptian gods and if u gonna say because of kaibia crush card that happened to yughi at duelist kingdom and if kaibia didn't risk his life if yugi attacked he would if won bearing in mind he was against blue eyes ultimate dragon joey would have no chance he even lost to zigrifried won of the worst villans come on no chance in hell he would win
I'd like to see a similar discussion for Jonouchi
Freakin' Fanboys. -Jonouchi
At least most of Joe's losses have him putting up a good fight...Except in that last filler arc against the guy with the pink hair with the Valkyrie deck
Sorry if this comment got a little fan-fictiony there but I do genuinely think Krillin could have been a bit more relevant with a few minor changes!
It's almost like they're the main character or something. Have people forgotten what the definition of main character is?
@@thekey0123
Pink hair? You mean Zigfried?
@mystery8820 Yeah, when I was a kid, I missed most of that arc, so I hardly remember much about it.
@@thekey0123
I missed the KC GP Arc in debut because I was like: WHEN'S BAKURA GONNA POP UP?!
"he was so bad he lost to Tea" you do realize she is undefeated right? Thats not making a valid point.😂
She's a girl so a lot of Yugioh fans assume she's bad by default.
Pretty sure Joey was Tea's very first W.
Joey is the Rock Lee of Yu-Gi-Oh
One of the things i like about the manga is that dark irisless look he has at times.
Brooklyn rage!
nyah
I like the way little kuriboh's abridged series acknowledges Joey beat Atem offscreen with Swordsman of Landstar, which Atem had rifted on earlier in the series XD
the Gallop anime dumbed him down then 4Kids murdered him
Joey had pretty good development in the anime. Other then the fact he should have beat Marik. It's stupid he lost too Ziegfried too. He should have been able too beat that pink hair weirdo.
But Joey is my favorite character in Yugioh. Sucks he has barely dueled in any of the movies too.
19:13 That's in the dub.
Great video dude ! Love my boy Joey !
My only Jounouchi canon will always be his manga version. I really hate when in the anime he lose in the contest of strenght to Keith when in the manga he can punch the light out of Keith with little effort.
He also very quick wit in the manga more than in the anime.
7:34 this is the origin of the six samurai deck
Joey was gonna kick kaibas ass and the same with marik 😂😂😂
Joey is my absolute favourite character
I thought Weevile and Rex's tournament at the beginning of the anime was only a regional so Weevile wasn't the best player in Japan, just in whatever region Domino City is.
I agree, and the anime would never allow their golden boy Yami to lose on screen to the second fiddle. I love Joey, tho he's awesome.
Nobody mentioning the duel opera where joey defeats Marik?
So good to see you back! Gotta catch up
Fun fact: Yugi's duel against Bandit Keith at the start of Season 2 is the anime's version of Yugi's shadow game against Duke's father as Yugi had to face both opponents without relying on his bond with Atem and ends up trapped inside a burning building because he refuses to release the puzzle (also Bakura saved Yugi and Atem in both situations).
The whole arc Duke arc is divided in three in the anime:
- Rebecca vs Yugi to introduce a generational conflict
- Yugi vs Duke to introduce Duke
- Yugi vs Keith to introduce a moment in which Yugi has to face a serious challenge and is saved by Joey in the fire
@@mujigant by the 1st episode he'd had already dueled teal for hundreds of rounds and lost
Rex, Bonz, Weevil and Espa Roba (?) are younger than him
Mai he beat without knowing what he was doing, he just go carried by Yugi's card
Rex he beat without knowing what he was doing, he just got carried by Tristan's card
After being semi finalist in DK he immediately lost to Duke because he still sucks at making decks
The whole world revolves around dueling, hard to believe it is hard to learn
He uses fuckin Battle warrior against people with egyptian gods, no wonder his supposed duel against Yugi where he gets Red-eyes back had to be done offscreen because there's no way that could've happened for real
@@VGInterviews You definitely haven't read the series lol
@@mujigant did I lie? Because first of all I was talking how the anime made it better for joey by giving him more chances to stand out
2nd I literally referenced the manga where Joey states that he had lost hundreds of times to tea
Him coming from a broken home is a weak argument where you have Kaiba, an orphan who had to be smarter than his step father who controlled the global arms market and overthrow him
Or Yugi, another orphan who was the first one who told Joey how much his deck sucked without needing Yami/Atem's help for that
@@VGInterviews dawg its OK we know you can't read lmao or you lack any kinda comprehension skills
My opinion on joey hasn't changed
Because anyone who doesn't acknowledge him at this point; doesn't embrace reality
I’d love a serious adult yugioh reboot
No shadow realm shit. They straight up di3
They do straight up "die" though, the shadow realm is a dub only thing, shadow games is the only canon thing within the continuity of Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters 🤔
rage of the brooklyn verity!
The Anime did every character dirty. Don't even get me started on kaiba or little yugi
Berserk theme killing it😅
Think that the late game Friday night and day games could add more fatigue
Joey got Ron weasley'd
Joey was beyond hilarious
it makes me angry how dirty they do him. kaiba has a toxic hate boner for him, yugi and the rest. dick the duke humiliates him and every duel he gets cheated. any op card he gets is completely nerfed. his duel with esper? his bros spied on him, jinzo's ability and his bs special armor to perfectly counter his time wizard strategy, odeon cheated when his card took no effect..... mako cheated when again, his card had no effect WHEN IT SHOULD HAVE AND HE WOULD HAVE AND SHOULD HAVE WON. vs yugi, red eyes lost a wing somehow, he and yugi both fell to the ground.... and marik is a dirty cheater too. the guy gets zero respect and its bad enough he talks too much while sounding like a unfunny clown
Yeah nah, I'd be pissed if my signature Card was Red-Eyes lol.
Why? Are you a fan of Blue-eyes?
@@kunik61 Nah, Summoned Skull. Stronger and takes one less tribute.
At least he has Jinzo
@@wobbuffet8357 Joey should have just have Jinzo as his ace monster
The thing is. If Joey either had a Summoned Skull or a Meteor Dragon while still having Red Eyes, he could have fusioned Black Skulldragon or Meteor B Dragon. Their we really have wasted potential.
So... I'm starting to realise that people don't realise how much was actually changed in the dub and think that it's only the manga with character development and dark subject matter and all character development was stripped from the anime.
It wasn't.
It was stripped from the DUB.
Watch Yugioh in japanese and you'll realise most if not all the character develop you think was stripped out is still there.
Ah der Serienreviewer. Ich wusste es doch
Mein Englisch klingt original wie deins. 👀 polacy do przodu 🙌
Nice haha😂
i dont like thinking that simply beating yugi makes you king of games. it would mean that yugi would have a much harder time trying out new cards and strats in his duels. the title its self would need to be put on the line in a duel somthing that would be done in a tornamet setting like battle city or when kiba challanges yugi its with the intent of taking the title.
thats my take on the king of games title any way.
I know Joey got that dog in he the anime did he dirty
I disagree on that part.
In the manga, Joey is a bum, with a drunk father. He built a "gambling deck" because he hoped for quick money to fix his life.
In the anime, Joey is a comic relief but at the same time, he is our avatar. Joey is the casual thay enters and slowly learns the game.
While Yugi and Kaiba are the top dogs, Joey is the underdog that slowly impress us.
Most of his duels are more exciting that the rest + many people feel that he deserved more because the anime made him great
Did you actually read the manga?
I been saying joey got did GRIMEY. Bro got zero recognition even as the second place after Duelist Kingdom.
Yugi and joey are the best duelists in duel monsters. Atem had cheats and kaiba is ritcher then elon musk
I see no problem with it. Hes a 3rd rate duelist with a 4th rate deck
Joey vs Schroeder he was robe

Hoy Take: Battle City is the weakest arc in Yu-Gi-Oh history. Joey and Mai got turned into jobbers. Ryo, Tristan, Tea, Duke and Yugi where completely useless and Kaiba actively endangered the world.
Battle City is actually, the best arc! It's by no means perfect, I will agree on that!

Seto hates Jounochi (yes, I hate dub so I use original names) for being "a loser", yet there are plenty worse duelists.
He reminds me of Yamcha, but much more useful.
To be fair, most Yamcha roles in other shows are still more useful than Yamcha.
