An interesting addition to this is the state of Kaiba Corp in 5Ds. In 5Ds, Kaiba Corp persists, but there are zero signs of either Seto or Mokuba running the company. Instead, its top level employees seemingly answer directly to the head of the Public Security Maintenance Bureau, as-if Kaiba Corp was at that point taken over by the Bureau and essentially property of the "state.". Kaiba Corp itself also appeared to have undergone both a massive renovation and significant rebranding in this era. Of note where the the fact that all Blue Eyes-themed paraphernalia was entirely removed from the company property, and even more importantly, the old "KC" logo was nowhere to be found on the Kaiba Corp building, or really anything at all for that matter. Add into this the fact that Kaiba Corp in that era had seemingly dropped its niche as a gaming company and become entirely a science/tech company that made no gaming related products what so ever....and yeah....new, non-Seto Kaiba leadership was very much implied. That being said, the 5Ds era Kaiba Corp also invented Ener-D, which VERY MUCH feels like something that only the visionary mind and intellect of Seto Kaiba would and could come up with. As a result, the most common fan justification for the Bureau's seeming takeover of Kaiba Corp is that Seto and/or Mokuba died in Zero Reverse, and due to the company being involved in Zero Reverse the Bureau took the opportunity to deem it a security risk and forcibly seize/take control of it to assure another Zero Reverse never comes out of the company. Between this being exactly the kind of thing an authoritarian, dystopian regime like the Bureau would do, and the fact the renovations and rebranding where seemingly carried out PRE-Zero Reverse, its also very likely that said renovations and rebranding did NOT happen by order of the Bureau, as its highly unlikely that the Bureau could take over the company before they had the convenient excuse that was Zero Reverse to do so, especially if Seto Kaiba was still in charge at the time. ....So its always been up in the air as to whether or not the Kaiba brothers actually owned Kaiba Corp in the the pre-Zero Reverse Neo Domino/5Ds era, and fans have never been able to really come to an agreement on this question. There are a lot of thing that point to them not owning it at that point, yes, but there are also still some things that smell a lot like Seto surrounding the company in the era. Regardless, these changes are interesting in the context of the "Is Kaiba dead?" question, and point to one of two scenarios in reguards to that question.... A) New ownership...which means yes, Seto is most likely dead. The renovations and distinct lack of the Kaiba brothers' presence seems to point to the company operating without them, as I said above. Well, if Seto did still run the company in the pre-Zero Reverse 5Ds era, that means he no longer felt the need to drape his company in self-indulgent blue eyes white dragon themed aesthetics and instead decided to rebrand it to project a more professional and less self-aggrandizing image. This would imply that he not only survived the afterlife, but also was somehow able to conquer his own ego and learn to put other things above his pride...hence the "Good Ending." This also interestingly means that he VERY likely beat Atem in the afterlife, as I can't see him learning to overcome/master his pride if he lost that duel. The Takahashi art of him testing Yugi's game could support this, as he's willing to give one of his greatest rivals the time of day rather than coldly brush him off. He still has a blue eyes jet/ship in that art though, but it could be a personal transport and not a public facing company vehicle, so its not a total dealbreaker. Ironicly this ending, while the "good ending" for Seto, might actually be more tragic than the "bad ending" because it would mean Seto Kaiba achieves his goal of beating Atem, lets go of his angst, conquers his ego, and becomes his best self, only to be prematurely cut down by his first real attempt at doing some good in the world as a changed man. Redemption, but at the cost of his life.
I had always thought of the portal acting like an anchor or a tether. sending a rope into the world of the afterlife, so he doesn't get lost. and that is why we see the lines of smoke coming off of him when he is walking. It's a sign that his teck is on, and we don't see that same effect on anyone else.

In the anime, Kaiba watched Yugi and Atem duel each other, and he accepted that Yugi was the real king of games. He didn't see them duel in the manga tho. Kaiba goes to the afterlife to duel Atem in the manga because he wanted closure, he needed to see his boyfriend one last time. Also, Pegasus is dead in the manga, and Kaiba corp buys industrial illusions while in the anime, Pegasus is still alive and still controls industrial illusions.
the GX anime is connected to the Yu-Gi-Oh anime where seto was there when Yami/atem left but in the manga he wasn't there meaning the anime and manga are two different timeline and the shadow dimensions is for the manga because seto wanted closure which he never got it debunks the theory with GX because the anime and manga are two different timeline
I personally think there will be another movie sometime in the future where we get see the duel , kaiba and atem have unfinished business. I could possibly see a draw to make them both look the best of the best but who knows, I’m sure it will happen it’s gonna take a while because they planning very very carefully so everything makes sense too

I disagree. From what I remember Kaiba had loved the card game since him and Mokuba were kids and orphans. As he became rich everything he did was for his passion for the game he liked. He made the duel disks and the new ar tech to make playing his favorite game more enjoyable. Of course he’d take more pride in his ability to play his favorite game more than his success since he only succeeded in life because of his passion for the game he loved (and his adoptive father but still)
To put Kaiba's Obsession into perspective. In the manga did he connect all Arcades in all of Japan so that they could share hi-scores just so that everyone always knows he has the Hi-Score in all of the games.

Your theory that Kaiba would wait until he died has a flaw. Atem went to an afterlife based on his culture and beliefs from back then. Kaiba would probably go to an afterlife more in keeping with modern beliefs. He and Atem wouldn't be in the same place.

That's a great question... He did make it to the afterlife to meet Atem once more, but we have no idea if he made it back. I'd imagine he did since we saw him in GX, but who knows?
Priest Seto only ever had the Rod. (Unless you count the Shadow RPG which was just a game) I don't think the Quantum Cube lost it's power, but that depends on how closely connected it is to the Plana. Shadi was able to use it long before Atem left. As for the main topic; Kaiba is not really dead in that his mind didn't go to Atem's dimension; He brought his entire body with him. Also, let's assume he isn't able to use the Quantum Cube to return. In that case, he'd just have Atem send him home. Basically, Atem obtained a level of consciousness akin to Shadi after he left for his own afterlife (The manga is based on biocentrism, and a part of that involves consciousness going to a different world; There's basically an endless sea of them.) This was stated in the prequel manga by Sera. When Jonouchi sees Atem, he's seeing a projection of him Atem sent there so that another entity would be able to see and register his existence (Look up biocentrism. TL;DR: Consciousness creates reality, and not the other way around. The Plana is a collective consciousness where people's mind are linked, and their perceptions are able to overpower other beings. Except for when Kaiba used his own technology to amplify his consciousness to the point where it surpassed them.) When we see Atem later in the movie, he not only sent his spirit there but he gave himself a physical form that time just like Shadi always did
Seto Kaiba isn't gonna let a trivial concept like death stop him from coming back because he's Seto "Freaking" Kaiba. Accept no substitutes. But seriously, he likely went and dueled Atem in the afterlife with the power of the cube and after that finally satisfied and able to put his past behind him, returned to the living world to continue refining his duel technology which leads to GX and 5Ds. He'd still duel obviously and he had gained a respect for Yugi by the end so they'd likely still play against each other.
I’m torn on the gx theory but over all I don’t think he would end up dying regardless. Personally while gx manga didn’t have him and the movie was essentially in a manga timeline. His adoptive father wouldn’t change his mindset to just let himself give up. They didn’t exactly get along. Kaiba would figure out how to keep himself alive using that money and intelligence to make himself not age til he beat yugi atem to finally let himself die. He is the definition of commitment. I think he would have his tech back up his mind and probably have a machine able to connect to his brain to back up his mind.. like a d gazer think about it he could have it all backed up and a altered carbon style body 3D printer waiting to bring his conscious mind back from the other side. He used that technology to stop himself from being warped out of reality and to go to the afterlife it would actually be less of a stretch to have that be the case. @@RinTheRebel well, in the GX manga I don't know, haven't read it all, but at the time when we SAW Pegasus in GX, It was stated that GX may also be from another timeline that is Coincidently also 10 years after the original series Time wise, that is why even though Atem Defeat "ALL DARKNESS" there is still evil, so maybe this is another timeline where all DARKNESS wasn't defeated by ATEM. Ut's honestly the only thing that makes sense to me.

the gx anime and movie aren't connected. The movie follows the manga canon while the anime follows the anime canon. In the manga pegusis is dead, but he's alive in the anime. Kaiba never saw yugi and Atem duel in the manga, but he saw them duel in the anime and he said that yugi was the real king of games. Also, Jaden never had neos in the manga.

I personally think there will be another movie sometime in the future where we get see the duel , kaiba and atem have unfinished business. I could possibly see a draw to make them both look the best of the best but who knows, I’m sure it will happen it’s gonna take a while because they planning very very carefully so everything makes sense too

I don’t think kaiba would be pleased with a draw, he wants a win but I’m not sure if the plot would allow that. and yeah I agree with you, would be sad to see kaiba lose again. I disagree. From what I remember Kaiba had loved the card game since him and Mokuba were kids and orphans. As he became rich everything he did was for his passion for the game he liked. He made the duel disks and the new ar tech to make playing his favorite game more enjoyable. Of course he’d take more pride in his ability to play his favorite game more than his success since he only succeeded in life because of his passion for the game he loved (and his adoptive father but still)
To put Kaiba's Obsession into perspective. In the manga did he connect all Arcades in all of Japan so that they could share hi-scores just so that everyone always knows he has the Hi-Score in all of the games.

Your theory that Kaiba would wait until he died has a flaw. Atem went to an afterlife based on his culture and beliefs from back then. Kaiba would probably go to an afterlife more in keeping with modern beliefs. He and Atem wouldn't be in the same place.

Priest Seto only ever had the Rod. (Unless you count the Shadow RPG which was just a game) I don't think the Quantum Cube lost it's power, but that depends on how closely connected it is to the Plana. Shadi was able to use it long before Atem left.
As for the main topic; Kaiba is not really dead in that his mind didn't go to Atem's dimension; He brought his entire body with him. Also, let's assume he isn't able to use the Quantum Cube to return. In that case, he'd just have Atem send him home.
Basically, Atem obtained a level of consciousness akin to Shadi after he left for his own afterlife (The manga is based on biocentrism, and a part of that involves consciousness going to a different world; There's basically an endless sea of them.)
This was stated in the prequel manga by Sera. When Jonouchi sees Atem, he's seeing a projection of him Atem sent there so that another entity would be able to see and register his existence (Look up biocentrism. TL;DR: Consciousness creates reality, and not the other way around. The Plana is a collective consciousness where people's mind are linked, and their perceptions are able to overpower other beings. Except for when Kaiba used his own technology to amplify his consciousness to the point where it surpassed them.)
When we see Atem later in the movie, he not only sent his spirit there but he gave himself a physical form that time just like Shadi always did

But seriously, he likely went and dueled Atem in the afterlife with the power of the cube and after that finally satisfied and able to put his past behind him, returned to the living world to continue refining his duel technology which leads to GX and 5Ds. He'd still duel obviously and he had gained a respect for Yugi by the end so they'd likely still play against each other.

I’m torn on the gx theory but over all I don’t think he would end up dying regardless. Personally while gx manga didn’t have him and the movie was essentially in a manga timeline. His adoptive father wouldn’t change his mindset to just let himself give up. They didn’t exactly get along. Kaiba would figure out how to keep himself alive using that money and intelligence to make himself not age til he beat yugi atem to finally let himself die. He is the definition of commitment. I think he would have his tech back up his mind and probably have a machine able to connect to his brain to back up his mind.. like a d gazer think about it he could have it all backed up and a altered carbon style body 3D printer waiting to bring his conscious mind back from the other side. He used that technology to stop himself from being warped out of reality and to go to the afterlife it would actually be less of a stretch to have that be the case.

@@RinTheRebel well, in the GX manga I don't know, haven't read it all, but at the time when we SAW Pegasus in GX, It was stated that GX may also be from another timeline that is Coincidently also 10 years after the original series Time wise, that is why even though Atem Defeat "ALL DARKNESS" there is still evil, so maybe this is another timeline where all DARKNESS wasn't defeated by ATEM. Ut's honestly the only thing that makes sense to me.

the gx anime and movie aren't connected. The movie follows the manga canon while the anime follows the anime canon. In the manga pegusis is dead, but he's alive in the anime. Kaiba never saw yugi and Atem duel in the manga, but he saw them duel in the anime and he said that yugi was the real king of games. Also, Jaden never had neos in the manga.
