  • Lockheed Martin, the biggest player in the global defence and aerospace sector, has a long association with India. All three services of the Indian Armed Forces use equipment produced, and often maintained, by Lockheed Martin. At Aero India 2023, Lockheed Martin will be displaying some of its state-of-the-art equipment. The focus will of course be on the F 21 fighter aircraft that is competing with quite a few other aircrafts of various countries for the 114 Indian Multi Role Combat Aircraft contract. In the interview, Mr William Blair, Head Indian Operations, Lockheed Martin, provides a rundown on major platforms in use with the Indian services. He also elaborates on the role played by the company in supporting MSMEs and its joint ventures with Indian groups. The commitment of the company to support the Indian Atmanirbharta policy is also illustrated.

Even if porki were not using F16s there was and is no change for F16 (or F21) to win MMRCA.

India should only buy Heavy or double engine fighters from outside.
All light and single engine fighter jets should be bulk produced in India.

We should buy at-least 2 -3 squadrons of F21, and Lockheed should manufacture them in Hyderabad. Though the F16 is 30+ years old the fighter with new radar, sensors, avionics and weapons systems are new. The only thing old is the frame and the design. F21 is more capable than F35 and costs less to maintain. I worked with HAL & others for few years and its very difficult to make them work as there are unions, half of the employees take it easy, management is pathetic, good engineers after some years of work experience will go and join commercial companies, salaries are pathetic (so the people working). Only hope is if some new young engineers & new managers join HAL in Hyderabad, Bangalore and Lucknow then run it as a private company and make the employees accountable then we will rollout Tejas, MK2 & AMCA. The big problem in public sector is every religion has its union and they cry and you cannot make them work. Only 52% of the public sector workers work others just take salary and go away.....

      What the hell !!!
"F21 is more capable than F35" hahaha
Here we are developing AMCA, inducting Rafales for modernisation of IAF and why would we buy this old renamed F16?
I think if we buy this, Pak will be able to defeat us because they fully know the potential of these F16s
Selling old fighters with a new name and denying F35, good game by USA
Better go with Checkmate of Russia

@@srikanth85in As an Indian I sincerely thank IAF and our planer for nat having any American fighter jets in our inventory. American jets always come up with lots of string attached. They never ever gave any source code and Indigenous weapons integration options. Indigenous weapons are being develop in mind of Indian conditions and need. Our govt. recently released money for Tejash mk2 development and it's our low risk highly needed project. Maximum LRU with this fighter now in maturity levels. Further refined version of of those LRUs are in complete their development cycle. We are now achieve our proficiency on composite material development. Recently we get success on RAM coating. Our weapons and sensors are superior as compair with imported once, because all imported weapons and sensors are downgraded version from their actual capabilities. Yes we have problem with engine. Past try of our kaveri engine didn't achive it's operational requirements for Tejash but we achieve many engineering and critical operational parameters with it. Knowledge we gain through this help us to improve Russian origin engine. We get good result on engine blade. Dry version of our engine going to power our stealth drone ghatak. Marine version of this engine is under trails. Now why we failed in this engine development: Govt. Didn't gave enough funds, our metallurgy is not that much advance enough for aero engine grade components, we don't have testing facility etc. But through this we gained many knowledge and now we can absorbe new technology on aero engine. In future govt and private entity going to collaborate with RR or Safron for 110kn full jet engine with 100%IP rights. In future this engine going to replace all western foreign origin engine's in our indigenous fighter. Now come to GEs engine deal. This is not new engine at all. 1 st this deal came in light way back in 2009/2012. GE have MRO in India run by HAL. HAL now Master in overhaul of western engine. Sir but our force have it's own contingency plan regarding western aero engine. GE gave us very good deal and they also not going to loose a big market like India too😂😂.we work hard on helicopter engine and now we can produce it by our own. Almost 800/900 are in service.

Tejas mission computer going through a test in the USA on F16 and pokhran happened. They forced our engineers to leave USA asap. They didn't even return us. This is a blessing for us. We develop many critical technologies for Tejas and for our missile program at fraction of the cost. Seems you are a great admirer of American defense technology but sometime you should think about how our scientists' and engineer work on a limited budget on cutting edged technology. Many western and Russian products don't even meet our forces PSQR but our own people worked hard to achieve those in India. America denied us using GPS on Kargil. They didn't even give many complex electronics with our P8I. If you are not from Chandigarh lobby go and self-introspect yourself. I being not even a STEM graduate and very recently into this domain know this fact than you should. I'm a very nascent defance news follower sir but all of my arguments are true. We are Bakstabbed many times. We paid $ 49 million dollar on the Upgradation of Mirages. We don't want we spent too much money on Upgradation on Foreign platforms in the future. Why USA lift sanctions on us because India is a very large market and emerging regional and global power. In the upcoming years, maximum of our defance platforms going to be indigenous from small arms, howitzers, land-based platforms, missiles, ships, helicopters, drones, aircraft, ships, nuclear power submarines even propulsion systems, avionics, and radar. This govt. doing exceptional work in that direction. But they should work more. We are really grateful to Manohar parikar sir for his effort for the reincarnation Tejas program.
