      GoldStorm07 i doubt they’re going to reprint the Dragon Ball Z Dragon Boxes any time soon. Funimation actually ran a poll a few years ago asking between which series the fans would like to see released as the next set of Dragon Boxes; Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z : The Movies, or Dragon Ball GT. So there’s more hope for one those coming out sooner than getting a Dragon Ball Z Dragon Boxes back on the shelf.

    As someone who doesn't own any Dragon Ball, I would drop serious dough for one complete collection with DB, DBZ, GT, Kai, Super (when that's all finished), and the movies in original aspect ratios. I'm not sure that they'll ever do it, but it really shouldn't be this difficult to own the definitive version of this franchise.

      You said it. Imagine... the fan base would undoubtedly grow but I would guess that they want a bigger profit margin. We should be able to crowdfund it, given the degree of some dragonball fans, but maybe there’s another reason why it hasn’t happened, eg. Import conflicts. I don’t even know what they would price it at. 100% in the hundreds-1k at least?

      Crap my comment is old. I made that before I watched Kai.
      Kai is pretty inconsistent with the Buu saga. The saga is cropped, has an ugly green tint, and some really out of place and repetitive music.
      I'd buy the singles but that's too many dvds. I like to keep the cases and display them but I don't have anywhere to put them and some are hard to find. I can't get the complete package.
      I hope Rock the Dragon has the Japanese version because that's the only version of Z I wanna watch (excluding Kai, Super, and the Broly movie because the dub for that is cheesy fun).
      I just hope one day that Funimation will release a proper version of Z or just re-release the Dragon Boxes for a reasonable price.

Also I didn't know about any other releases for GT. I thought it was only the green box set.

  • @OmegaRockman
    @OmegaRockman 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    A few things:
    Apparently some of the DB saga sets (the ones with the Japanese title cards) had issues in printing where there was an episode (in the 80s range, I think) with dubtitles only and another that would skip if the Japanese audio was selected. Also, the UK seasons are supposedly reprints of these discs in that region, so there is a cheap option to get them.
    The Blue Bricks are pretty good with having the original aspect ratio, but they do have one issue: they're slightly zoomed in (by like %5). So yes, they didn't crop the show, but you do lose a little image. Still a fairly decent release, though.
    The Dragon Boxes had more of a reddish tint if I recall correctly (where skin complexions look kinda pinkish); it's the Kai Boo arc that has a green tint (where everyone looks pale and sickly).
    Also, the Level sets never had the Faulconer score because the Faulconer score didn't come in until Goku fights the Ginyu guys; Nathan Johnson did the music for the redubbed episodes for the Ultimate Uncut Edition, and his score is what is featured on the Levels. Had the Levels made it to the Ginyu stuff and beyond, though, then yes, they would have had the Faulconer score. But again, they didn't make it that far.
    The original movie singles (the ones in 4:3) don't have the dub with Japanese music (unless you get the Ocean Dubbed Pioneer releases, of course, but those are a little different) and only Movie 5 had the Mexican dub; strange thing about Movie 13, though, is that it has a pretty stellar sounding stereo track that was never featured on later Funimation releases.
    The Double Feature movie sets (the "Digitally Remastered" ones on DVD and BD) have the "Real American Band" music, but on some of them (like Cooler's Revenge) messed up the mix slightly since they made a few tweaks to the dub, so the song placement is slightly different.
    As far as I know, the 5 and 4 pack DVDs (with the orange and white packaging) are reissues of the "Digitally Remastered" discs in consolidated sets (only BD version of this release so you have to get the Double Features if you want BD, but it looks like they're back in print on Amazon at about $20 a pop give or take; dunno about the DVD versions, though).
    As Jayain said, the composer for the GT dub was Mark Menza, not Nathan Johnson. Again, he did the Ultimate Uncut redub score (featured on the OBs, Season BDs, and the Levels). Just reiterating for emphasis.
    For Kai, the US BDs and DVDs are 4:3 across the board, whether you buy the Parts, Seasons, whatever. You'll always get 4:3 in the US (well, the Boo arc will probably be different, but up until Cell is 4:3). The 16:9 DVDs are only in Japan (as far as I know; Jayain could have been referring to the Australian DVDs, and I don't know about those releases).
    As for music, in the US Parts 1-4 will always have Yamamoto. I did hear that in other regions like Australia, you may end up with Kikuchi for part 4. But if you buy the US Parts sets for 1-4, you WILL have Yamamoto. You may also get Yamamoto if you get Season 1 US that was misprinted with the Yamamoto sets. However, the likelihood of you getting this one is slim to none. If you buy any of the seasons now, they'll all be the Kikuchi replacement music. However, apparently some of the season sets in other regions like the UK have been half and half Yamamoto and Kikuchi (don't know about the specifics of which discs have what), so it's kind of a clusterfuck there.
    I understand how one could make mistakes such as these, though, because it really is a lot of stuff. DB on home media is so fucking confusing.

    • @ErBoi1
      @ErBoi1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +OmegaRockman The Dragon Boxes have a pink tint for the majority of the series, but the last several episodes have a green tint (nowhere near as bad as the green tint in Kai though). In the English Dragon Box 7, the first 2 discs are pretty much spot on in the colouring, but in Disc 3, the green tint starts to gradually creep in. It gets especially noticeable on episode 273.

    Honestly I love my Japanese DVDs and Blu Rays. I've got the entire series (DB, DBZ, DBGT, DBKai, the movies, and the first box of Super) imported from Japan, and honestly they're worth the money. I have the Funimation DVDs (the blue, orange, and green bricks) as well, and they don't compare to the Japanese releases.

    Dragon Ball Z Kai Every Season
    Dragon Ball Z: Battle Of Gods

    Of course this is not all out yet and won't be for a few years.

      That’s exactly how I did it but also got the Cooler movies, Bardock/Trunks specials, Android 13/Bojack, Fusion Reborn/Wrath of the Dragon and all three OVAs because I like those movies/specials and think they all add to the story and lore in some way. The first three Broly movies aren’t necessary anymore because of the upcoming movie. Also GT because it still fits in the timeline unless Super eventually goes past the end of Z.

    While i am hopeful that one day we will see dragon ball z released in 4:3 with both dubs and soundtracks, i don't think it will be anytime soon.
    The orange bricks, a 16:9 widescreen release, sold so well and have made funimation and its distributors such as madman a shit load of money.
    The 4:3, blu-ray releases, didn't make them anywhere near what the orange bricks did. While i think that much of this was due to releasing the level sets too soon, the numbers don't lie.
    They tried releasing the series in 4:3, and the sales were much lower then the 16:9 release. So from a business standpoint, it only makes sense that the releases into the future concerning DBZ will be in 16:9 ratio sadly.
    Personally, i will not buy Z until it gets a 4:3 release, and i can understand why people decide to pirate the series rather then support the in print releases. I would buy the Dragon boxes, but i couldn't get them at the time of their release and i'm not paying over $1000 just to see a tv show.
    Supporting the orange bricks and current blu-ray season sets in my opinion is just encouraging funimation to continue releasing the series in 16:9.

    In Mexico the dub was monopolized by Televisa who is a monopoly of TV in Mexico and it’s very expensive to use that dub. Reason that there’s no official MEDIA DVD OR BLURAY TO WATCH DBZ ALL 291 in Latino. Max we ever got before cancellation was 52. They couldn’t pay or release 291. Any fan in Mexico has the series all 291 but pirated in Latino.

I grew up with dragonball z on toonami right like must kids my age did. Now I understand there are so many versions of the anime out there when it comes to dvds and what not but my question to you is how do I buy the the version of the series that contains the badass music on the English dub with gnarly guitar rifts and just intense music. I know and have seen versions where the music is some composure instruments that just doesn’t do it for me I mean the music made it for me growing up and before I spend money on something online I just want to know which is the best way to go to get my hands on dragonball z the way I’ve come to love. If you could help me and point me in the right direction man I’d greatly appreciate it.

      @@i360fantasy7 Thanks! I did go ahead and get the blu ray steel books. I also own the dragon boxes as well. The steel books aren't perfect but they're a pretty decent master. The best were going get I'm afraid. I prefer the dragon boxes for the best DBZ experience but damn that HD looks amazing haha. Some scenes look awful but some look amazing. It's honesty a mixed bag. I would never buy the 2014 blu ray release they look just awful. It looks completely washed out and blurry. They're unwatchable.
