    This was my first car and I have nothing but love for all mk6's
    I have the 1.4 tsi (122hp) model, pulls great and gives amazing economy. its now been remapped to 165hp and both those points remain.
    The car was my grandads which he bought new back in 2010, it's now 14 years old with just over 40k on the clock.
    They feel so incredibly premium in comparison to some lower end, newer cars. Not "luxury" but luxurious things, carpeted glovebox that opens softly, carpeted door pockets, rear vents for passengers, auto dimming rear view mirror, auto headlights, wipers, cruise control, parking sensors, and I could go on. I do enjoy driving it quickly and it has the perfect balance of nimble handing while still being comfortable for long trips. I've had the car for 3 years now and I am slowly leading towards something larger and faster, but it will always hold such a special place in my heart.

    Updating the headlights and rear lights are 100% worth the money makes the car look way better. Giving a light tint to the windows also 100% worth it. Recommend these upgrades makes you love the car even more

    Its not a bad car but you do need to appreciate that its basically just an 90's chassis with modern appointments. If you can live with the appalling failure rates on the 1.6 TDI the fuel economy can be stellar. Combined 55mpg and low 60's on longer trips is almost enough to offset the eye-watering cost of replacing the injectors and EGR vale every 5 years..

    Great video. Just got a 2012 VW Golf 1.2 TSI as my first car. Got It from a colleague with only 65km. I was surprised at how advanced the car is despite its age! It drives super smoothly.
    I was a bit on the verge since I heard this models have an issue with the timing chain that can do some damage in the engine, but let's see! I'll just be proactive with the servicing.

      Premium fuel, regular spark plug replacement (4 years) and 10k kms oil changes with vw approved 504 oil will see it last 200,000+ kilometres easy

    The Golf R actually has a TFSI engine (EA113) whereas the GTI has TSI (EA888)

      Both interesting engines until you realize that this engine only made little more horsepower then an k20 in an civic si from the same year and the civic was na while this had an turbocharger so without the turbo this engine makes less power then the k20 na it also means with the same turbo set up as the gti engine the k20 would make closer to 220 - 240 hp or all the way turned up 250-60 hp with bot ons ofc 👀

    Thanks for the review, they really are great cars, I have a black mk6 gtd, have used it for huge roadtrips around the UK and Europe, and it's been faultless for the last 3 years I have owned it. My GTD is missing cruise control for some odd reason.

    • @Theferrariguy
      @Theferrariguy  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's great to hear definitely try get cruise control installed. I believe it's possible but other than that it's great to hear your cars been flawless mine has too since it's replacement of bearings and suspension stuff except the brakes squeak quite a lot despite the pads being changed

    I just passed my test and want a 1.6 tdi but the insurance is way too much on one and mk6 prices have gone through the roof, nice car though.

    • @Theferrariguy
      @Theferrariguy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Congrats on passing you test but the prices and insurance suck 😢then I'd definitely look at a 1.6 a3, Octavia or Leon of the same era or a mk3 focus. Maybe even a tdi Fabia or seat Ibiza would be cool plus they're quick when remapped and mega on mpg

    Could be very informative but the commentary was difficult to understand due to a combination of accent, intonation and indistinct words - unfortunately some key ones. Perhaps there is something to be said after all for synthesised speech. Couldn't catch what the timing chain problem is and also some other key comments were unintelligible.

      Had it 2 years now and was gonna do a video on it actually but let's see, I've done 50k km in that time and had to spend maybe 1200 on repairs that included 2 bearings, 2 shocks and springs, a calliper, brake pads and discs in the rear.

    I have just bought my sons 1.6TDI Model as he has just bought the 2.0 GTD one.
    He has spent a lot of moneyu on it, with all sorts of performance gibbins and its a right little monster now, but somehow it is still very economical.
    its a hellish car and a bit of a sleeper, but its still only 1.6
    I love it, but it has a rotten squeak coming from something that I dont know where? ( Im deaf in one ear and so I cannot pinpoint things like sounds unless they are obvious ) I am gettign it checked out after the bank holiday, but as its had a lot of things like the suspension replaced and some other work, it could be almost anything thats causing it?

      Yes, I am not much of a mechanic for cars, and so its biooked in to have it looked at on Tuesday.
      I kind of hope that its simply rubbing on something small and the sound is worse than it really is.
      If I go over a speed bump, it does not make any sound, only when I turn the wheel.
