    After your videos I don't want to buy any used cars, I will just let my current car eventually rot apart.

    Owning a 1.4 petrol here and must say even being the weakest engine of all and not being powerful whatsoever with ~7.5l per 100km its gonna take you anywhere you want without taking much care of it than your average diesel. Perfect car just remeber to give a bit more gas when youre about to move :)

    EA113 ed35/r has also cam chain with problematic tensioner. If rattle it could be changed. Also oil pump is prone to failure. Vacuum pump/hpfp housing also could leak on seal on EA113, solution is to replace housing. On the other side EA888 has problematic screen mash on balance shafts, which also could cause lock of balance shaft and block oil pressure and stop cooling. Repair could be expensive. Water pump was expensive for EA888, plastic thermostat housing could leak, but now it is not so expensive part and there is aftermarket solutions with aluminium housing. If you have older type of timing chain and tensioner it should be upgraded to newer version. There is no Mk6 GTI in europe above 2012. all cars came with old style tensioner and it is highly recommended to be replaced. However, updated timning chain should least more than 100.000km with good maintainance. Oil change services is crucial for those engines. Both engines EA113 and EA888 has some weak points and could be unreliable if you let problems unsolved, EA888 has better fuel efficiency, fueling system is more advanced and ECU is newer gen, EA113 in R and Ed35 has better and bigger K04-064 turbo, so it should be tuned more than stock IHI RHF5 on EA888. EA888 + K04 is real deal.

      @@differentcarreview-dcr Grant Walker Parts, an Australian used car parts retailer, all but stated on their website that 2008 Golf Mk6s with the “problematic” CAVD engine ought to be avoided and drivers should drive the 2012 Golf Mk7 with the successor CTHD engine instead.

    Hey I recently bought a Golf 6 1.4 TSI and I saw that the oil smells like petrol, anyone has an idea what could cause that? Maybe the high pressure pump? Thanks a lot for any help!

      See a mechanic immediately. You might have an internal oil leak so the oil & fuel have mixed.

    • @eponymous7910
      @eponymous7910 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is super common for direct injection engines, especially when you do a lot of short trips. I wouldn't worry too much, just change the oil every 9 months/10,000 kms and replace the usual things (fuel filter, air filter, plugs) at the correct intervals and you'll be fine

    great video, very informative..my 2009 golf 1.4TSI hesitates at a constant speed say 40/50 mph I have replaced the 2 inner coil packs and its still there. upon doin a service this year I decided to replace the air filter...popped the old one out and it looks brand new like I just fitted it.. so I guess the engines gettin its air supply from some other source!!!... so I fired up the engine and held a rag over the intake with the filter out for over a minute and the engine run just fine...any ideas???

      Hey.. i have same engine.. not the same issue but this may help.. you might need to replace the little breather valve that feeds air to the top of the crankcase. Its not expensive.. 90€ OEM part from volkswagen in Spain

    • @jamiedickson7063
      @jamiedickson7063 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sometimes this breather valve wears out with the years and feeds more air than it should causing engine misfire on idle for example or driving in your case .. check it out. Remove engine cover and its just on the top of the engine its called crankcase breather valve about 4cm in width attached to two pipes on the top

    • @differentcarreview-dcr
      @differentcarreview-dcr  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      don't buy a 1.8 TSI Golf MK6 unless you are ready for a major engine repair: replacing pistons(because of oil consumption) + replacing timing chain since it will get worn

      118 tsi is even worse since it has the 1.4 TSI twincharger - issues in the video
      the 90 tsi is the better choice since it has the 1.4 tsi with 90 kw - 122 hp - but keep extra money to replace the timing chain

    I had this 1.4 TSI 122HP in my Passat. Can’t recommend it; mediocre performance and higher fuel consumption than the Diesel counterparts. Also, the timing chain rattled.

    • @MiaFromTheBlock12
      @MiaFromTheBlock12 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That's a small engine for Passat. I really don't know what is the problem with timing chain, you have to change/fix something sometimes :D

    • @raimonddeieso7433
      @raimonddeieso7433 ปีที่แล้ว

      All the problems that follow German cars one wonders what the engineers learned at Uni, nothing as they design things over complicated and poorly, from valve guides, timing chain tensioners, water pumps, oil pumps, the list is endless, why would you buy one

    • @MiaFromTheBlock12
      @MiaFromTheBlock12 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@raimonddeieso7433 I have one, 1.4TSI in Golf 6, in my ownership from the start and couldn't say anything bad for this car and engine. Timing chain is changed at 140.000km, but even if you have a belt engine version (from any manufacturer) you need to change it sometimes. I didn't find this as a problem. Mine is from Europe, from Switzerland, but I've heard that USA ones are poorly made. TSI is not the most reliable engine on the world, but if you want one you need to buy Toyota or Mazda, and those are with reason without turbo charge. I love turbo charged cars.

      122 for the Passat is too low you need 150 to move smoothly with a car like that.
