I had late 2012 Golf 1.4 tsi 90kw 6 speed since new for 4 years and 100k km. Had clutch replaced at 30k km (factory installation issue) , control arm bushings and other misc suspension stuff. No problem with engine timing chain, however in cold it did sometimes refuse to start all 4 cylinders! When it was -15..-25, just normal North European winter, so I had to restart the car 3-5 times. Bear in mind I had done spark plug replacement according to spec and service did not found any anomalities. I had a MK5 Golf 2.0 fsi with an automatic transmission. The gearbox had a problem and I couldn't find out why so I had to sell it at a big loss. Besides that it was great and in mint condition with only 130 000 km and 15 years old.

Hey guys, what s your thought on TSI 1,4 golf automatic 2013 160 000km. Is it a safe car? The car has been followed up on services etc. Nice interior + extra gadgets. But some problems with lane assistant (camera?) What is your thought?
I have a 2012 golf 2.5. i have changed 2 throttle bodies( 1 OEM and 1 is aftermarket) and bluetooth always goes off just before the throttle body gives out, leaving with EPC light on and limp mode on causing 40kmph max. the car has just over 100k mileage
I have a 2010 golf with a TSI 1.4 petrol engine and 7 gear DSG that has run 175000 km. I knew about the chain problems when buying it. Rust has appeared pretty much exactly where you show it and the DSG gear box had a maintenance before I bought it for the mechatronic specifically. The ACC is leaking and has since I bought it 3,5 years ago. If refilled with coolant it lasts a summer but the coolant leaks out slowly during the autumn/winter. Cost quite a bit to replace so didn't do it. The chain has noises claims the Volkswagen mechanic but a second opinion from a different mechanic showed no issues, at this point at least. The charge for the chain is about 1700 € at Volkswagen here in Sweden. Just bought a brand new car (waiting for delivery) and made sure it wasn't a Volkswagen. In my opinion they are living off a generally good reputation, which they no longer deserve. My new car is a Mercedes E 220 d estate, model 2021. By the way I know I'll be robbed at the mechanics shop once the car gets older, mercedes likes to charge premium for their original service.
Would VW dealership fix my rust on the front fender inside edge? Under the 12 years rust warranty? It's a 2009 golf gti mk5. Luckily it has one year left for the warranty to cover

What is defined short distances with the 1.2 TSI engine.....a few 100mtr I understand, but is there a minimum that would be defined as a short distance? I drive daily 14km to and from work, with a few stoplights on the route. How will this affect the engine and the mix of fuel and oil?? Thank you
14km / day is short distance driving To put it simply: the main problem is that the engine oil is not gonna reach the operating temperature or maybe just at the end of your journey + when the engine is cold - more fuel is injected into the combustion chamber. In this "cold phase" the fuel slowly gets into oil since some of it is not gonna get burned and "leaks into the oil"-very slowly of course. This is usually not a problem because when the engine oil reaches operating temperature, then after some time of driving-most of the fuel evaporates from the oil. Now, if you drive short distances only, then the fuel can't evaporate from the oil. Of course this is not a huge amount, but after lets say a couple of weeks of driving like this you can sometimes even notice a very slight oil level raise because of the fuel. What to do? Well I would at least once a week go for a longer drive - at least 40 km and of course change the engine oil after max 8 000 km, this way you can prolong engine life even if you will use it as you use it now
Hey mate, thank you so much for your videos it's saved me making a bad decision I nearly brought a Mk5 Golf 1.4 TSI GT. I have decided to go for a Mk6 2.0 TDI instead, the 110bhp version. What is the difference between this and the higher bhp version?
The 110 hp version doesn't have issues with the oil pump drive shaft which can be worn out The more powerful versions with 140 and 170 hp made to the end of 2009 which have CBAB or CBBB engine code can have the 77mm oil pump drive shaft worn after approx. 200 000 km. This will later cause loss of oil pressure which can kill the engine. All the newer 2.0 TDI engines with more than 140 hp made from 2010 have an updated 100 mm long shaft which is usually ok, but even this shaft can be worn-but just after approx. 400 000 km. other than this the reliability of these engines is the same
Hello ! very informative video, i'm lookin to buy the twin charger 1.4 tsi 160 hp. I took the car to the vehicle inspection institute today, it has some leaks but the seller said he would fix it at his own expense Vehicle year 2010 with 66,000 kilometers First of all, does you think it makes sense to have such a low kilometer? Secondly, I wanted to know if it's worth buying it for you And I wanted to know at most how much it might cost me to repair the most critical things and is it a one-time repair or a recurring one? i hope you can answer me i really dont know what to do, its my first car and i love it, i just dont know how expensives and oftens can be the repairs thank you !
Steer clear of the twincharger, fair chance the kms are low because it's been stuck at a mechanics for months on end. They really aren't worth the risk - buy a mk7 1.4 instead. They're far more reliable

I have a 2013 golf with the 2.5 i5 and 5 speed manual. It does way better on fuel than i have heard anyone doing with these cars. I am getting 6L/100km or so from it. Very reliable car so far. And ill be keeping it for quite some time cause this is in fact my dream car. Couldnt ask for a more fun car
Brother, second-hand Volkswagen is a wise choice to buy 2.5, and it is not reliable if it is turbocharged.
One note about the interior - the seat bolsters can quickly wear out.
yeah!!!u back!!thanks for come back
Great review as always. Please try uploading more frequently.
planning to buy used Mk6 in 2022. Useful tips. Kipidap. Salam from Kuala Lumpur.
me too
Just go with a 1.6 tdi
I had a MK5 Golf 2.0 fsi with an automatic transmission. The gearbox had a problem and I couldn't find out why so I had to sell it at a big loss. Besides that it was great and in mint condition with only 130 000 km and 15 years old.
I love your accent i understand all of what you talk about
I own 1.4 TSI, the mechatronic is fragile but the drive is great and low fuel consumption. Parts widely available from China.
I have a 2011 1.4 tsi with 190k kilometers the boot wouldn’t open so I had to fix it.The rubber in the turbo got worn and made a check engine light.the driver seats are starting to be worn and the hard plastics in the interior is breaking and soft plastic are now starting to be too soft and it now looks like shit. The temp gauge no longer works. The cat broke so I had to buy a new one I heard some rattling in cold starts so I think the timing chain is also going and the paint is starting to come out and lastly the flywheel had to replace it twice but it has never left me stranded and it’s a fun car
This is spot on!
I'm glad I come across this video I was going to buy a golf in the next couple of weeks I think I'll stick to a Astra.
can u make an instant golf 7 revieuw pls u be the best
Hey guys, what s your thought on TSI 1,4 golf automatic 2013 160 000km. Is it a safe car?
The car has been followed up on services etc. Nice interior + extra gadgets. But some problems with lane assistant (camera?)
What is your thought?
I have the Na 1.4 and the only problem I've encountered in 15k miles was a faulty coil pack
Excellent review !!! Gj man!!
Once the E class is out of warranty just take it to an independent mechanic
Comparing 2021 e220 to a 2010 golf is like comparing a yacht to a kayak...
@@tomchester3229 Yep, what a moron
Would VW dealership fix my rust on the front fender inside edge? Under the 12 years rust warranty? It's a 2009 golf gti mk5. Luckily it has one year left for the warranty to cover
Very interesting and informative, thank you!
Please do a review on scirocco 2.0, 2012-2014 models.
Thank you so much for the video! I was planning to the 1.4 TSI (122BHP) 2009 DSG (65k miles) from a friend... but after watching your video, I am not sure whether it is a good idea...
I dont see any complaints about the 2.0tdi 🎉

Great review. VW is the general motors of Germany and getting worse every year. For what we pay we should get a much more service friendly vehicle.
What is defined short distances with the 1.2 TSI engine.....a few 100mtr I understand, but is there a minimum that would be defined as a short distance? I drive daily 14km to and from work, with a few stoplights on the route. How will this affect the engine and the mix of fuel and oil?? Thank you
14km / day is short distance driving
To put it simply: the main problem is that the engine oil is not gonna reach the operating temperature or maybe just at the end of your journey + when the engine is cold - more fuel is injected into the combustion chamber.
What to do? Well I would at least once a week go for a longer drive - at least 40 km and of course change the engine oil after max 8 000 km, this way you can prolong engine life even if you will use it as you use it now
Nice video! Please, make a more detailed video about BMW E46:)

Great info! What do think about the 1.4TSI ecofuel (CNG) engine?
I'll probably opt for the 1.6 TDI on this one or a 2008 MK5 1.9 TDI and save some cash upfront, thanks!
Hey mate, thank you so much for your videos it's saved me making a bad decision I nearly brought a Mk5 Golf 1.4 TSI GT. I have decided to go for a Mk6 2.0 TDI instead, the 110bhp version. What is the difference between this and the higher bhp version?
The 110 hp version doesn't have issues with the oil pump drive shaft which can be worn out
The more powerful versions with 140 and 170 hp made to the end of 2009 which have CBAB or CBBB engine code can have the 77mm oil pump drive shaft worn after approx. 200 000 km. This will later cause loss of oil pressure which can kill the engine. All the newer 2.0 TDI engines with more than 140 hp made from 2010 have an updated 100 mm long shaft which is usually ok, but even this shaft can be worn-but just after approx. 400 000 km.
other than this the reliability of these engines is the same
@@differentcarreview-dcr ok great so the 110bhp 2.0 TDI 2009 sounds like a good option?
yes, just make sure that the timing belt + accessory belt is replaced in time and keep an eye on the regular diesel engine problems
@@differentcarreview-dcr ok brilliant thanks, what should I look out for when I go to view the car?
Hello ! very informative video,
i'm lookin to buy the twin charger 1.4 tsi 160 hp.
I took the car to the vehicle inspection institute today, it has some leaks but the seller said he would fix it at his own expense
Vehicle year 2010 with 66,000 kilometers
First of all, does you think it makes sense to have such a low kilometer?
Secondly, I wanted to know if it's worth buying it for you
And I wanted to know at most how much it might cost me to repair the most critical things and is it a one-time repair or a recurring one?
i hope you can answer me i really dont know what to do, its my first car and i love it, i just dont know how expensives and oftens can be the repairs
thank you !
Steer clear of the twincharger, fair chance the kms are low because it's been stuck at a mechanics for months on end. They really aren't worth the risk - buy a mk7 1.4 instead. They're far more reliable
@@eponymous7910 too late I bought it lol…
