Exactly, EA113 with a K04 turbo found only in the GTI ed30-35, S3, TTs, Leon Cupra and mk6 golf R. EA113 is also utilised with a smaller turbo - K03, found on mk5 GTI, TT , A3, EOS, Passat, Leon, Octavia and quite a few more.
As an owner of a bog standard Mk.5 GTI, it being an all-rounder is why I love it. I don't have the money or garage space for a car exclusively for fun driving but I didn't want to just drive a boring daily, so the GTI fits perfectly for me. My one's a manual too which probably makes it a more involving drive than the DSG.
They're not as exciting or as fun as a civic type r in my opinion but the golf is such a good in-between option of fun and a great daily, just not as cool as a type r to me
it is in the edition 30 and the main difference is only the intake camshaft that has sligthly bigger cams. There are also the valve springs that are known to be more resistant
@@KiwiCarLife no doubt with that, but I prefer feeling of grip at launch and driving control in winter times. plus before joining vag clan, I was a subaru guy
You need to get your hands on a Mk7. Tuning wise they're incredible. A GTI with a couple bolt ons with stock turbo opens it up for over 210wkw easily. Get it on e85 with a big turbo they can reliably push up to 370wkw without opening the motor.
@@KiwiCarLife if it was an auto I see where you're coming from, theyre quite boring. If you drive a manual edition 40, it's basically a fwd GTI with the golf r motor and LSD and is way more fun than any R.
Where did you learn to flick the paddle shifters in that particular way? Flamboyant way to get in some extra engagement when paddle shifting lol gotta try it myself. Maybe it might become a signature of yours others will start to copy!
Many of these drive around here in Germany so they are almost boring, but hot hatches are great I bought a Audi S3 8L and it is just amazing to drive and quite rare already
Yeah the S3 is just that little bit rarer aye which in my books makes it more interesting. Not too many ED35's around tho which is why I like this and the pirelli edition of the mk5
Would be keen to see you to review a Suzuki swift sport turbo with the boosterjet engine. I think this car is also another 'do-everything' hot hatch, intrested to see how it goes when compared to the GTI.
I've had one for 1 and a half years now (6spd manual though not the auto) and still love it, not as powerful as the VW or as quick in a straight line but around 400kg's lighter which is very significant in cars this size and great for where I live full of windy roads in the Adelaide hills. When I bought it I'd been driving commodores for 15 years and the little mean machine boosterjet in this chassis was an entire universe of difference and fun lol
had one for 3 years, bought brand new, almost everything you can check on the list, except for the akrapovic exhaust (wasnt avaiable at that time), done almost 150.000km in 3 years. Never had problems, pushed almost 315hp stock, fast, fun, absolut daily, but with my second child it sadly got to small and to pricey overall. But damn i miss that car.
Mark 5 I reckon is where it’s at. Mark 6 is the accountant special where interior trim quality was slashed in order to save money. I had flowing numbers for AC temps on my 2005 ML270cdi.
Had to lose our Golf GTI, loved it to bits but cost of parts and maintenance once it got a few too many years on it ruined the value proposition. Wife ended up just getting a turbo Subaru Impreza.
I would have loved for you to try my new gti when you were down here in chch. its a mk6 but with a stage 1 tune cts full exhaust and intake. I also put new PS5 tyres on as well as leather swap. It dynoed at ( to the wheels ) 228hp and 330ft lb

That's a EA113 as found in the MK5 GTI/ed30, LCR, and S3 also the same gen R.

A fantastic video. I’m becoming convinced these Edition 35’s will be future classics and will appreciate in value. Just epic cars.
Yeah they’re good cars man
just as a clarification, at 0:48 the engine shown is EA113. the Edition 35/Mk6 R used the mk5 gti engine but modified to be stronger and more power.

Mk7 Golf Gti TCR probably best FWD golf ever made.
Not really coz it costs disproportionally more than the regular ones
@KiwiCarLife I completely agree. Hopefully, Gti TCR depreciates in value over a decade and becomes more attainable, but I doubt it!
