Robby and Jack are back to finally finish off their loud, existential trilogy of Cars commentaries! In the final chapter, Lightning McQueen is apparently an old man now(?), and the concept of Cars aging opens up a whole new rabbit-hole of questions about this truly cursed universe...

Love the evolution Robby's impression of the "KA-CHOW" trailer went through. What started as a sign that he's seen the first movie too many times is now an inner compulsion bubbling up from inside that he has to do whenever the character is on screen that I don't even think he's aware of lol, kills me every time

When I watch this movie I said it was so unfair that a NASCAR is racing against a electric car. I always thought Storm should be racing in Formula E rather than in a normal NASCAR race with Lightning.
Ok first thing: you probably know this, but if you don't, you said "a NASCAR is racing against...". The correct way of referring to them is actually "NASCAR race car" or "stock car". So "a NASCAR race car is racing against..."
Second thing: I think an E-NASCAR series (not the iracing one would be cool)

This movie feels like it was truly made out of actual care for the franchise. From a financial standpoint, it was probably smarter to let the series sink with the second movie and not give it another chance, but they made an actual labor of love and ended up surpassing the first movie by what I'd argue is a considerable amount
"Are they getting slower as they get older?" Well, yes. Cars lose their horse power over the years and need to be maintained to be in the best shape but sooner or later either you need to buy new components like engine or gear box or a new car
Based on the wiki, Lightning is supposedly in his early 40s
I still adore the first movie but the animation and production of this one makes it the best one

When I saw it in theaters, I was left very satisfied!
I didn’t expect Cars 3 to flop by any means, but after the mediocrity of Cars 2 (that I actually have slightly more affinity for compared to the average person), I and many others were skeptical, even with Lightning’s devastating crash from the Cars 3 teaser. Thankfully, I was proven wrong. Funny, wholesome, and came full circle in many aspects. And regarding whether you guys should do Planes or not, I’d say it’s worth a watch. Not my favorite, but definitely not bad; actually pretty overlooked given how Cars is simply more beloved being that it came first
@E . A honestly a very good argument. When one thing led to another some people knew where it was going. But at the end of the day, well I don’t consider it my favorite Pixar movie of all time, I can still look at it and say this was good
Please, absolutely do Planes at some point. I love all of the theory crafting about how everything in the Cars cinematic universe (CCU) works and that movie brings up stuff they don't in the Cars trilogy.

I feel like the same stock photo for all of Lightning’s profiles is the only thing about Cars Lore that makes sense
Lightning is probs like 35-40 meaning the yellow car could be like 20 and watched him growing up, though the grandparent line was either hyperbolic joke or bad writing, also I headcanon the cars growth cycle is very similar to the robots system

Now I'm just wondering about famous cars of pop culture, like the Delorean, Ecto-1 and KITT, are they in museums like in real life or are they deemed as celebrities in the cars universe.
I would say the latter, because there is a piece of Cars 3 concept art which depicts a dropped plot where lightning went to a big party with some of those famous cars in attendance.

When you guys mention at 7:38 about switching conciseness of cars is kinda funny, because that was going to be the plot of the first moive.
Lightings stream of conciseness gets put into a steam roller, and only if he fixes the road doues he get his old body back...kinda messed up yes, doues it raise more questions? HELL YEAH IT DOUES
I love the reactions for this. When I watched it, I also thought that it was just as good if not better than the first. Definitely better than the second. Something good about the way everything was laid out for the audience and how they wrapped it up with him basically having the Doc storyline unfold for himself from beginning to end so he could become a perfect mentor to someone else. I know it's a troupe that's been done, but it felt fitting the way they did it for their (hopefully) final movie.

It’s also really refreshing to see people actually find joy in watching cars. I feel the exact same way as robbie, I grew up with these movies and I love them, thanks for completing the trilogy!

There's actually a deleted scene in the first movie where lighting gets his conciousness surgically removed and put into a steam roller and motor's conciousness into lighting's body.

I like cars 3 but I still give it to the original. Also 5 piston cup racers are returning racers from the first and at least two of them changed car models. Two of them are the shiny wax car and the sputter stop car.
He was considered a young rookie when the first one came out, and if as you say time passes with the release dates then Lightning has been on the racing scene for no more than 12 years, maybe 13 tops, so it's hard to see Lightning as older than his mid 30s. In short, he's not old.
I would say save yourselves and don't do planes, but I've now seen both planes movies at exactly twice each. They have some appreciable humor.
I love how their existential mindset during these commentaries caused them to read way too hard into what was likely just the new car trying to roast McQueen's age. I reckon that car was probably alive during McQueen's other races, the grandpa comment was just to make McQueen feel old. Wait now I'm reading too much into it

Another little detail I just found out--according to this movie's director, Lightning McQueen is 40 years old as of 2017, so he's at the lower level of the retirement threshold in stock car racing (usually early to mid 40s is when they retire, though some have been able to continue into their 50s).
Child cars grow up very fast though. Hudson Hornet car model was first manufacored in 1950 and Doc's first Piston Cup is from 1951 so he became a youngster in a year. And after that he started his way to super old.
