My best dog friend died on the 19th of November. He was my little heart and sole. Benji was a grey schnoodle who I have no idea how I’m going to continue on life without him. 16.5 years on earth isn’t enough and I hysterically cry every few hours over him, but this song has helped me try and get through it. My son was born on this date 3 yrs ago. And it was storming the 3 days i was trying to have him. They had to make an emergency C section. The shots they gave me in my back didnt work so i was fully awake and suffered each slice and tug. This song played and finally with a bit of help with morphine they pulled him out and i glanced at him, hear his cries along with the song fade in the background while i pased out. Mins later after holding him i felt no pain and we fell asleep and when we woke up the sun was shining. This is the song i still sing to him.....happy birthday to my baby boy.

IZ was the best think that has ever happened to me. I grew up with this song and I still tear up when it plays. He recorded it in only one take. He went up to a producer who was traveling and asked if he could play for him because he has worked so hard on it. I'm still sad he passed away when I was young. Hopes he rests in peace in the islands with the others. He inspired me so much.

Its surprising how many forget his motivation for the song. Was from knowing his people were dying, Hawaiian kids were committing suicide and the culture was excluding itself and the children of ot didn't want as much to pass on its culture. The song was both an ode to the sadness of what was happening and a song for uplifting someone's perspective that good is there among the evil.

My grandfather Lee died June 4th, 2024 due to Parkinson's disease. He fought in Vietnam, quickly earning the title of seargent. He was injured by flying debris in battle, causing a piece of metal to get stuck in his knee. Over the course of time, the pain and suffering he went through, physically and mentally, began to worsen. He needed help with simple things, such as getting out of bed or taking a shower. My grandmother, even with all of the pressure, never left his side. Eventually, she, alongside my father and uncle, decided to send him to assisted living. During this time, he started to develop mild dementia, forcing us to put him under hospice care. He died around a week later. At his funeral, they played this gem of a song. As it continued, I started to weep. I just relearned about this song, and also found out about IZ's death. It was a perfect fit for his celebration of life. Thank you.

My son was born on this date 3 yrs ago. And it was storming the 3 days i was trying to have him. They had to make an emergency C section. The shots they gave me in my back didnt work so i was fully awake and suffered each slice and tug. This song played and finally with a bit of help with morphine they pulled him out and i glanced at him, hear his cries along with the song fade in the background while i pased out. Mins later after holding him i felt no pain and we fell asleep and when we woke up the sun was shining. This is the song i still sing to him.....happy birthday to my baby boy.

IZ was the best think that has ever happened to me. I grew up with this song and I still tear up when it plays. He recorded it in only one take. He went up to a producer who was traveling and asked if he could play for him because he has worked so hard on it. I'm still sad he passed away when I was young. Hopes he rests in peace in the islands with the others. He inspired me so much.

My grandfather Lee died June 4th, 2024 due to Parkinson's disease. He fought in Vietnam, quickly earning the title of seargent. He was injured by flying debris in battle, causing a piece of metal to get stuck in his knee. Over the course of time, the pain and suffering he went through, physically and mentally, began to worsen. He needed help with simple things, such as getting out of bed or taking a shower. My grandmother, even with all of the pressure, never left his side. Eventually, she, alongside my father and uncle, decided to send him to assisted living. During this time, he started to develop mild dementia, forcing us to put him under hospice care. He died around a week later.
At his funeral, they played this gem of a song. As it continued, I started to weep. I just relearned about this song, and also found out about IZ's death. It was a perfect fit for his celebration of life.

This song helped me when my daughter was in NICU for several months over 14 years ago. Amazingly, she was released home after major complications and surgery. She's such an old soul and one of a kind. This song kept me going, and It's absolutely beautiful 💗
