We celebrated the life of our Matriarch my 100 year old mother-in-law today. Her son put together a video of her life using this amazing song. On the day Mom passed away, a double rainbow appeared in the sky and it had not even been raining. She left a legacy of faith and love. We love you, Nana!

Dogs never die. They don’t know how too. They get tired, very old and their bones hurt. Of course they don’t die. When you think your dog has died, it has really just fallen asleep in the world and now lives in your heart. And by the way, it is wagging its tail madly, you see, and that is why your chest hurts so much and you cry all the time. Who would not cry with a happy dog wagging its tail in their chest? Ouch! Wap, wap, wap, wap, wap, that hurts. But they only wag because they are so happy to be so close to you.
Whenever they wake up in your heart they wag their tail. After a few dog years, they sleep for longer periods of time and you will too. They were a GOOD DOG all their life and you both know it. It gets tiring being a good dog all the time, particularly when you get old and your bones hurt and you fall on your face and don’t want to go outside to pee when it is raining but they do because they are a good dog. So understand that after they have been sleeping in your heart, they will sleep longer and longer.
But don’t get fooled. They are not “dead”. There is no such thing, really. They are sleeping in your heart and when they wake up, usually when you are not expecting it. It is just who they are.
I feel sorry for people who don’t have dogs sleeping in their heart. They miss so much. Excuse me, I have to go cry now.”

In dark times, this song somehow gives hope. I think because it recognizes that we may not be able to find a way to make our dreams come true.. but that we can keep trying... that there is a better place or way for all of us. I'm a former Marine now in my mid 40s. My grandparents took me to Hawaii and an IZ concert when I was a kid in the 90s, which was probably the first time I heard this song. Fast forward a few decades and she's in her 90s with heart failure and nearing the end of her life. This song brings back so many great memories from back then.

When my niece was a newborn, her Dad was in an accident and I ended up looking after her for 8mnths while he rehabilitated. I would rock her in my arms, and Walk around the house with this playing out loud. She would calm down immediately and fall asleep. This brings back so many amazing memories. ❤️ 💙 💜
