Mr Dave. I lost my mother when I was 11 which now soon, will be 36 years ago. Dolly was her favorite singer ,and mom , she sang this song all the time. Those good memories. What those ole boys didn't know you having a loving mother to go home to every day made you as rich as Dolly was with her coat of many colors.
This song always reminds me of my mama, RIP. I’m 62 now but grew up poor working class (cotton mills) and Mama made all my clothes until I went off to college and even then she still made clothes for my sister and me. She was a talented seamstress but I vividly remember being embarrassed as a young teen that I had to wear homemade clothes while others wore clothes bought from department stores. I’m so grateful that I realized as a young adult all the sacrifices she made for my sister and me and was able to express my gratitude to her. RIP Billie Hunter…you were the best mama ever
We need to teach our children that a persons wealth is not determined by their clothes or other belongings, but by the person that are inside. Children are to concerned with material things. I have tried to teach my children not to make fun of someone. You never know what someone elses live is about.
This song reminds me of my first day of preschool. My grandma made me a red and white dress I was proud of that dress and couldn't wait to wear it. I got bullied that first day and came home crying my eyes out. My grandma wiped my tears and asked me "Do you still love your dress?" Of course through sobs and tears I told her "I love more then anything else" and she said "Then why does it matter what those kids think?"
How sweet... just want to hug little you and tell you how lovely your dress is and have you tell me all about who made it and what your favorite thing about it is 🥲
Just reading comment about you Grandmother Shannon bring so much memories, I'm sorry for those who laughed at you because many of them weren't properly raised and may never know what it feels to get a dress from Granny. I still Fancy my Jacket my Granddad gave to me until this day. my daughter Emily fancy it too. We are Lucky Shann

Hello beautiful, how are you doing? This is one of my favorite songs. I could listen to it over and over again, I'm glad you liked it. You have a high taste of good music.💘🌹🎄🎅🌷💐⚘🎁🎂🍪🍷
The sweetness of this song can't be defined by those who doesn't understand the pain our mother's goes through to keep us happy, it's always my everytime comforter
This song reminds me of my childhood. We had no money and my mother sewed all of my clothes. So I feel blessed as well. Dolly is one of my favorite singers.
I grew up lower middle class but my grandmother sewed some clothes for me growing up and crocheted beautiful dresses and sweaters. Even though my parents bought me clothes as well, however,, grandma's clothing got the most compliments😃. I also have sweaters that grandma crocheted for me as an adult and I treasure them more now since she passed away😊. Even though I am materially rich (as compared to many of the Third World country's people) the best possessions I own are my faith and grandma's beautiful sweaters. She grew up poor in Poland but was always a giving soul who could have given professional tailors a lesson or two in design😀. May she rest in peace.
Aside from my mama, I adore Dolly most of all. My mom taught herself to play guitar and piano. We used to sing this to my drunk dad. He would cry. Because he was drunk.
Dolly Parton came from a poor family of twelve children. Her mother used to sing them old songs and later on jolly began to sing on small platforms like radio, church and then became an iconic county singer.I just love her all songs.
That's the truth dolly parton did grow up poor and so did alot off ppl.but bk here in Ireland my mommy and daddy done everything to feed us when we were young big family's back in the day I'm going bk nearly 44 years now but I can relate to all Dolly's songs god bless dolly parton 🙏 and god bless 🙏 us all 🙏 from Dublin Ireland and plz god 🙏 keep us all safe from covid 🙏🙏🇨🇮☘️🇨🇮💚🤍🧡☘️🇨🇮☘️☘️💚🤍🧡🙏🙏☘️☘️
I love this song. IT reminds me of what I'm going through. Each time I listen to it I cry profusely I can't stay a day without listening to it Dolly Parton I love yoy
I'm surprised by the amount of people curious to know if this song is biographical. It most certainly is and to this day Dolly has her beloved little Coat of Many Colours. There is a documentary I've seen in which she holds it up so proudly and lovingly, with a sole remaining button, the others having been pulled off by the taunting children Dolly sings of. Poor? This lady was born into abject poverty! But thanks to a whole lot of love and of course, her being blessed with a heavenly voice and wonderful songwriting abilities, she has become what we see (and hear) today. Dolly is a rare and precious lady gifted also with a beautiful soul.
she reminds me of my grandmother who had to deal with an aggressive drunk of a stepfather who nearly killed her baby sibling who beat them and their mother now her and all but maybe one of her siblings are dead
Dixie Woods This song brings back all my memories of my Grandma as she sewed our patch work blankets I would sit with her and she taught me all the colours as she sewed. I am 62 now but still have one of her blankets she made. My beautiful grandmother did everything for her grandchildren without her I don't know we're my 2 brothers and I would have ended up my dad was an alcoholic and my mother only cared about herself it's sad to look back at the humble life we had but we all made it through thanks to Grandmas loving hands
I cry too when I listen to this beautiful song. We were so very poor when I was young, mama made all of my, and my sister's, clothes for school. I still have my wool baby coat (which looks like it was handmade by a tailor) and a skirt and blouse she made for me when I was in 1st grade. We were the two best dressed girls in school.
I was lucky enough to be at this concert at the Dominion Theatre in London, Dolly held the audience in the palm of her hand that night, I recall her saying to the audience, make them cry, make them laugh but send them home happy and she did just that. Thanks you dolly, been so many years since I have seen her in concert but the memory never leaves you.
I really wanna meet those 200 poor people who disliked this song and give them a hug. I know they are in pain. This song may have reminded them of their struggle.
Maybe those 400 who disliked it have no mothers to love them when they were young . Let's pity them I mean you ought to experience the joy of childhood to love this song.

I had no business looking her up one day but I did, and I'm grateful I did. I'm even more grateful I stumbled upon this song. Brings me joy and tears EVERY time. In fact, this is my go-to when I am stressing over nursing school. Thank you for being such a light, Dolly. ❤ Perhaps I entered the fandom a little late, but I sure love it here.😊

Haa 😂that's songs baby
Back through the years
I go wonderin' once again
Back to the seasons of my youth
I recall a box of rags that someone gave us
And how my momma put the rags to use
There were rags of many colors
Every piece was small
And I didn't have a coat
And it was way down in the fall
Momma sewed the rags together
Sewin' every piece with love
She made my coat of many colors
That I was so proud of
As she sewed, she told a story
From the Bible, she had read
About a coat of many colors
Joseph wore and then she said
Perhaps this coat will bring you
Good luck and happiness
And I just couldn't wait to wear it
And momma blessed it with a kiss
My coat of many colors
That my momma made for me
Made only from rags
But I wore it so proudly
Although we had no money
I was rich as I could be
In my coat of many colors
My momma made for me
So with patches on my britches
And holes in both my shoes
In my coat of many colors
I hurried off to school
Just to find the others laughing
And making fun of me
In my coat of many colors
My momma made for me
And oh, I couldn't understand it
For I felt I was rich
And I told 'em of the love
My momma sewed in every stitch
And I told 'em all the story
Momma told me while she sewed
And how my coat of many colors
Was worth more than all their clothes
But they didn't understand it
And I tried to make them see
That one is only poor
Only if they choose to be
Now I know we had no money
But I was rich as I could be
In my coat of many colors
My momma made for me
Made just for me

Hello
For sure🥲🤩
Hello beautiful, how are you doing? This is one of my favorite songs. I could listen to it over and over again, I'm glad you liked it. You have a high taste of good music.💘🌹🎄🎅🌷💐⚘🎁🎂🍪🍷
The sweetness of this song can't be defined by those who doesn't understand the pain our mother's goes through to keep us happy, it's always my everytime comforter
Hello 👋. How are you doing?
THE MOST SUCCESSFUL COUNTRY FEMALE SINGER EVER
And the best
There's Patsy and Dolly...then everyone else.
Tony P because she sings the story of her heart.💞
So true
Wanda Jackson Bro
This song reminds me of my childhood. We had no money and my mother sewed all of my clothes. So I feel blessed as well. Dolly is one of my favorite singers.
and i hope you have money now ,
exactly the song ,make us to remembered our root ...may dreams comes true.
Very nice to see you have not forgot your child hood well done cheryl
Your Mom clearly deserved to be a Mom and have you as a child. A Perfect fit.
Back when a song told a story. Unlike today where a song is just one phrase repeated over and over.
So Sad. Seems people's Brains are stuck not creative anymore.
Sad ...but so true.
People no longer care about lyrics and the message in songs, they just want to catch the beat.
Well said sir 🙋👍so true ** this song is from the heart 💕 wonderful word's with meaning ****
This is a beautiful song. There is tons of songs that tell stories though.

Hello Aditya

It's because the lyrics are so genuine. Most of us can relate to a point of humility and sweet love growing up.

omg you look exactly like my auntie
It is, the story is on her biography
You don't spell color like this colour like bro😕
@@cindyneely5265 In British English, the "ou" is correct. Although uncommon, it's acceptable in American English. So yeah you do.... like bro
" YES SHE Is A Strong , Determined, Loving, And Will always Be Adored by Many".!!!😍😍😍😍😍😍😘😘😘😘😘🌹🌷🌹🌷🌺💐🌺💐🌸🌼🌻💎👸👑
2021 and this song is still one of the greatest song ever made
September 2024 and am here. Dolly had so much respect for the audience. skin well covered😍
One of my very favorites. The most human of stories of love and REAL values. It brings me to tears. THANKS DOLLY!
Hey how are you doing today?
This reminds me so much of my mom, she can't listen without crying, neither can I. I love Dolly, she is the Queen of Country!!!
I think this is the greatest song Dolly ever wrote.
"silver and gold" is the best
I like tie song
Dixie Woods This song brings back all my memories of my Grandma as she sewed our patch work blankets I would sit with her and she taught me all the colours as she sewed. I am 62 now but still have one of her blankets she made. My beautiful grandmother did everything for her grandchildren without her I don't know we're my 2 brothers and I would have ended up my dad was an alcoholic and my mother only cared about herself it's sad to look back at the humble life we had but we all made it through thanks to Grandmas loving hands
Glenys Parker
I cry too when I listen to this beautiful song. We were so very poor when I was young, mama made all of my, and my sister's, clothes for school. I still have my wool baby coat (which looks like it was handmade by a tailor) and a skirt and blouse she made for me when I was in 1st grade. We were the two best dressed girls in school.
We are very grateful and thankful for our Mothers. God bless you Dolly! Such a unique and beautiful voice!
Bless your mama💛
and i hope you have money now so your children would not have to past through that
Damn I love dolly
She's so real ...
You've come a long way Ms. Parton. God bless you for sharing your life and others
2022 and still listening to Dolly ♥️you just gotta love her😭💯
first time listening to this song Just heard about this song on a TV show and believe me lyrics are awesome 😍😍👌👌
Her voice was so nice she always made me to remember my youth age
I was lucky enough to be at this concert at the Dominion Theatre in London, Dolly held the audience in the palm of her hand that night, I recall her saying to the audience, make them cry, make them laugh but send them home happy and she did just that.
Thanks you dolly, been so many years since I have seen her in concert but the memory never leaves you.

I really wanna meet those 200 poor people who disliked this song and give them a hug. I know they are in pain. This song may have reminded them of their struggle.
make it 400 now
Maybe those 400 who disliked it have no mothers to love them when they were young . Let's pity them I mean you ought to experience the joy of childhood to love this song.

I am a zillenial Latina woman who grew up in the Miami area. Country is not popular here, especially not Dolly, especially not in my age group.

Who is listening tonight ❤
Am here
How does she not cry singing this? :,(
She is strong
...
U cry for her
Ikr it didn’t even happen to me and I’m crying
Back through the years
I go wonderin' once again
Back to the seasons of my youth
I recall a box of rags that someone gave us
And how my momma put the rags to use
There were rags of many colors
But every piece was small
And I didn't have a coat
And it was way down in the fall
Momma sewed the rags together
Sewin' every piece with love
She made my coat of many colors
That I was so proud of
As she sewed, she told a story
From the bible, she had read
About a coat of many colors
Joseph wore and then she said
"Perhaps this coat will bring you
Good luck and happiness"
And I just couldn't wait to wear it
And momma blessed it with a kiss
My coat of many colors
That my momma made for me
Made only from rags
But I wore it so proudly
Although we had no money
I was rich as I could be
In my coat of many colors
My momma made for me
So with patches on my britches
And holes in both my shoes
In my coat of many colors
I hurried off to school
Just to find the others laughing
And making fun of me
In my coat of many colors
My momma made for me
And oh I couldn't understand it
For I felt I was rich
And I told them of the love
My momma sewed in every stitch
And I told 'em all the story
Momma told me while she sewed
And how my coat of many colors
Was worth more than all their clothes
But they didn't understand it
And I tried to make them see
That one is only poor
Only if they choose to be
Now I know we had no money
But I was rich as I could be
In my coat of many colors
My momma made for me
Made just for me
