My dad loved this song and Dolly so much, when I was born, he named me Jolene. Dad died. Haven't seen him since I was 4. This song and Dolly have a whole nuther meaning for me personally. Crazy thing is....Im as dull as a woman can be. My momma was the Auburn haired green eyed beauty. She passed 2 years ago. Feels like the day before yesterday. My 8 year old daughter is literally watching 'Steel Magnolias' right now and we live in Louisiana. Drives me Crazy how short the life is and how bad things are right now. Cling to the Lord. Time is fleeting and no one gets outta here alive. Remember that 💜
You’re not dull, don’t put yourself down like that 💙 also who knows, maybe the real Jolene wasn’t too much to look at and Dolly was exaggerating 🤷🏽♀️ beauty is in the eye of the beholder and even though I’ve never seen you, I’m sure you’re very gorgeous
what a wonderful life, there's nothing bad or good, everything is neutral, what makes it good or bad is our own perspective. i don't know you, but I'm pretty you're a beautiful woman.
She sure is. Hes a very private person. You go to DOLLYWOOD hes sometimes spotted by Dolly fans who have only heard about him or seen the one photo from the 1970s of him online. DOLLYWOOD and theirs a strange guy clearly not security hanging around Dolly. People talk to her he backs up head down. Someones trying to stay unseen but people notice. Someone says to Dolly whos your boyfriend. People look shocked. Dolly laughs. Hes not my boyfriend. Hes my husband. Mystery revealled. I was theree to see it. . He's a quiet man soft spoken. He clearly loves Dolly so much. But hes also very private. And fan attention isnt his thing but he loves and supports fans as Dolly does.
G my friends hair does that too, she’s a redhead and its lighter than burgundy or super duper red. She has that little debbie typa red hair and in some lightings it looks blonde or strawberry blonde.
I love this song. She didnt talk about she hated Jolene. She pretty much sang about how beautiful she was and begged for her to not take her husband. Other artists wouldve talked about running them through the ringer or throwing a fist in their face, but not Dolly. I love her so much
Imagine being THE Jolene and having to hear this song all the time, seeing Dolly in her timeless perfection, and thinking “Damn I was the sorry woman that tried to steal that goddesses man”

@@littleangel6203 I don't know if you still need this, but she basically said that the song "Jolene" is based on a true story. She was a red headed woman, who worked in a bank in Nashville, that tried to take Dolly's husband. Dolly obviously fought her and managed to keep her husband (but she also beat the tar out of him ahahaha). Then she made a comment about a woman sitting in the crowd who looked a lot like Jolene and the song started. Hope you find this helpful.
@@littleangel6203 “I‘m going to do a song for you, now, that a lot of people have been asking for ever since I started doing the Dolly Show. They asked me why I didn‘t sing the song about Jolene. Now, this is a true story for those of you who don‘t know, I wrote this song about 20 years ago about this woman down in Nashville who worked at the bank. She was trying to take care of my husband while I was out on the road. Well, that didn‘t go over too big with me, I fought that red-headed woman like a wildcat. She jerked my wig off and almost beat me to death with it, haha. But I kept my husband, I got that sucker home and I beat the tar out of him. We got a whole bunch of red-headed women down here, matter of fact Jolene looked a whole lot like you, you red-headed hussy. Oh, so here we go with the pitiful story of Jolene.”
Now that I think about it in Hannah Montana dolly and Miley's grandmother aka "mamaw" hated each other because they both like the same guy in that same episode they fought and took off each other's wigs just to let y'all know mamaw has red hair
Pure perfection, melody, words, Dolly's charisma, her wonderful voice like she is a fairy, the guitar and the piano play... like a cover for fairytale... just put it on repeat and enjoy
The back story to this song is actually a lot more wholesome than most would think! Dolly was signing autographs and she ended up signing one for a little girl named Jolene. Dolly loved the name and made sure to let the little girl know, Dolly talked about how she kept repeating the little girl's name in her head until she got back to the tour bus and that's how the chorus came about. (She explained this in an interview I recently saw)
I’m from Ukraine. Moved to USA 13 years ago. Someone asked me if like country music and I didn’t Know what it is. They put “ Jolene “ for me. Since than, I love everything Dolly Parton, and don’t care much for modern country music. Dolly is an icon! There is such a heartfelt and pure quality to her songs. No one is like her.
Lisa Mona: I don't like modern "country" either. For you to gain context, I suggest you Google hpr.org. Select HPR1 to listen at really old country music, and then select HPR2 to listen to country music popular between the really old and sometime in the 1990s. The time periods are spelled out somewhere, but I have forgotten what they are. The artist names and song titles appear as the music plays, so you will know what you are hearing, even though there is no verbal commentary by DJs (although right now there is some appeal for operating funds, which they do only twice a year.) I am a Bluegrass fan, so I listen to HPR4. HPR3 plays Christmas music, and only during the Christmas season. I'm glad you are here instead of there. Can you imagine being this polished in front of an audience with a band behind you, bringing it all together and making it look effortless? What a performer!
I obviously don’t know her personally, but she just seems like a genuinely nice and caring person, which is difficult to do when you have been in the public eye for as long as she has. Like she’s fought to be who she is and genuinely wants others to be who they are as well. She doesn’t want her light to outshine other people, and I think that’s one of the many things that makes her so appealing.
True. When Rhonda Vincent had a serious illness in 2005, Dolly travelled from Nashville to Rhonda's home in Greentop, Missouri to visit and encourage her. She's that kind of person. th-cam.com/video/MoPdKj0kOOs/w-d-xo.html

I think this is the only song of this kind. She admits defeat so that she can win, I think I am not even explaining that well. What a superb song! She is still married to her husband, wow she is a legend!
This is an entirely different classification of true country the kind that has gone to sleep since the time of Johnny Cash and this Era of Dolly Parton and many other when songs had major deep emotions and a lot less repeative lyrics

Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene

Please don't take him just because you can

With flaming locks of auburn hair
With ivory skin and eyes of emerald green
Your smile is like a breath of spring
Your voice is soft like summer rain
And I cannot compete with you
Jolene
He talks about you in his sleep
And there's nothing I can do to keep
From crying when he calls your name
Jolene
And I can easily understand
How you could easily take my man
But you don't know what he means to me
Jolene
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I'm begging of you please don't take my man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
Please don't take him just because you can
You could have your choice of men
But I could never love again
He's the only one for me
Jolene
I had to have this talk with you
My happiness depends on you
And whatever you decide to do
Jolene
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I'm begging of you please don't take my man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
Please don't take him even though you can

@@littleangel6203 I don't know if you still need this, but she basically said that the song "Jolene" is based on a true story. She was a red headed woman, who worked in a bank in Nashville, that tried to take Dolly's husband. Dolly obviously fought her and managed to keep her husband (but she also beat the tar out of him ahahaha). Then she made a comment about a woman sitting in the crowd who looked a lot like Jolene and the song started. Hope you find this helpful.

Jolene saw their bank account and decided to latch on.
