Today is my husband's birthday. He has Alzheimer's and is now in a nursing home. I played him this song and it brought a rare smile to his voice. We all know that no-one can live forever, but it still comes as a shock to lose such an immense talent, RIP Judith and thank you for the pleasure your music has given.
A 21 year old Judith Durham. Just wonderful to see how she addresses the microphone. No ego, gimmicks, auto-tuning or pitch-correction software. She just stood there with hands behind her back and belted it out. Absolutely fabulous! How times have changed.
God bless you Judith. Two years ago I sat holding my Mum's hand while this played at my Dad's funeral. Your voice gave us immense pleasure when I was growing up and immense comfort in difficult times. You'll never be forgotten x
I love this song and so sis my husband. He used to play it and sing it to me all of the time and tell me "this is exactly how I feel about you." We were married in 1976 and he passed away in 2022. He sang it to me untol the end. Now I am constantly playing it. So, thank you for such a beautiful song!!
Oh, my Dear One. Please accept my thoughts and condolences for the passing of a clearly wonderful loving man. It is so special when one finds that one on the billions of people that you are meant to share eternal time with. I likewise lost my partner Jay of 34 years in January 2022 after a respiratory ailment compounded by covid. This beautiful song and its simple but powerful words say it all. May this beautiful timeless song bring you peace, comfort, and quiet happiness as you remember your beloved.
Listening 🎧 to this Song reminds me of A Very SPECIAL Lady that I feel In love 💕 💕💕💕💕 with back in the mid 80's ( The LAST part of the 80s 😭😭😭😭😭😭,. I still think of HER Today
This woman sang so effortlessly yet she's among the best of the voices I've heard. Her voice is almost too good to be authentic, I'm very impressed with her and the guys, the memories of the music and the times are priceless.
Judith's voice did something to me when I was 8 years old and 60 years on it still pulls at my heart. There's something magical about her voice....what a life's joy.
I heard her before I met my love and wondered if I'd ever feel that way about anyone. And I did, and I was lucky that I was young. I'm 75 now and she's 76 and we're coming to the end, and neither of us will ever find another to replace us. Please have hope that it will happen for you.
Now this was true music☆☆~Crazy to think that I was only 6 months when this amazing song was recorded...Tomorrow on Tax Day, April 15th 2024, I turn SIX Decades:) Time FLIES!!
I joined the military in early 65 , the night before I left home my mother played this song. I get a tear every time I hear it. My mother passed in 1966. I wasn't there when she died.
:( Wish I had words that would comfort......the thoughts the& feelings are here..just not the words I'd desire to reach into that place where the heart holds all......
I only started to really enjoy what my parents enjoyed as they dated, went roller skating, worked and fell in love in Lethbridge Alberta in 1963 at a pharmacy counter where myndad drank egg creamed and fell hard for a Scottish lass who I migrated in 1948 to live on beautiful Alerts, Canada. Judith Durham probably had the purest voice ever. Her notes are perfect and her diction so clear and precise. It has been a privilege to hear her over the years since The Seekers started. :-)
Soy músico y me identifico con The Seekers. Muchas gracias.
I definitely come back to this a few times a year., and each time I listen to it about ten times in a row. One of the most beautiful songs ever recorded. It's like I can't wrap my head around it... It's too good. :)
We don't see minstrel groups anymore, and certainly no singers like little Judith Durham. God bless her soul! Thank you for giving us a singer with a voice like no other!

She was the voice of my childhood. So many happy times associated with their songs. I'm listening to them now on YT crying my eyes out because everyone I loved then are all gone. Music brings back so many memories.
One of my very favorite songs of all time. Judith's voice was hauntingly beautiful. Today's music doesn't compare to music as powerful and melodic as this.

agree. My dad was born in 1960 and me in the late 90s. but he played many old songs while i was growing up and despite listening to contempory music, i still find old songs better. perhaps im an old soul who died in the 70s and got reincarnated lol... the songs i listen tend to be westlife, beatles and seekers etc. while my friends are listening to taylor swift and kpop
Just heard that Judith Durham has left us today. Those songs and her wonderful voice meant so much to us all who were growing up then, Bless you and thank you Judith D.
One of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard. One of the most influential bands of my life. Thank you for the beautiful music, you'll be greatly missed Judith. RIP. 💖X
My Grandpa's funeral was yesterday, he was survived by my Grandma. This song was played at their wedding 55 years ago and it was played at my Grandpa's funeral as his last request. My grandma at the funeral talked (through tears) about how the song speaks of a "promised land" but as the song goes on to say it is a "long, long journey" and that the marriage was difficult, even turning into a "nightmare" at times, but with God's grace it was worth it, every minute of 55 years, it was worth it up until "death do us part".
Hi I'm 23 years old, I can't explain whether it's my up bringing out the reason why I love music from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and some of the 90s and this song was and still is one of my favourites and it really saddens me to see that we have lost another legend when now there are so few left. RIP Judith and thank you for the music.
It's just that you like real music, not a lot of noise that rhymes. Back then you actually had to have good voice and be able to sing.and someone had to be able to write the word's and music.
Hi as one who grew up in the 60s the music we had was a happier sound not filled with hate and violence as with rap so called music of today. Sample some songs from Tommy James and the shondells , The Grass Roots ,even the Beatles. Even with a war going on our music was a happier sound
Robin, It's because you have that rare gift few people have. An old soul. Always remember you have it and don't let anyone diminish it for you. May you be blessed your entire life.
I first came across this by chance a couple of years ago, and I keep coming back to it from time to time. I'd never heard of The Seekers before, but this has become one of my favourite songs over time. Deeply saddened to hear of Judith Durham's passing this morning.
@@davidpowell3469 I recall reading somewhere that she'd had some sort of disagreement with the guys at the time, and was slightly miffed when the recording started, hence the hands-on-hips stance...
my wife died in june 2020, she dedicated this song to me after 34 years of marriage, we never played this song together, at the funeral i heard this wonderful song, which filled my (our) heart with love, you never know how much you miss someone until they have gone, and its songs like this amazing Judith Durham and the seekers who remind me of the wondeful times we had together xoxo
I watch this whenever it pops up, but for some reason tonight the tears started to come as I realized we've lost something that was so great in our day. Grateful for it being brought back for us to cherish.

Judith Durham has the most beautiful voice I have ever heard. Her resonance, clarity, and wonderful timbre are unique. Plus, she radiates a joyful, unaffected goodness that shines through in every song she sings. My guess is that most men who have watched Judith sing, "And you'll be my someone forever and a day" have dreamt of being that someone.

My Mum passed away yesterday aged 79, she loved the Seekers, we are an Australian family in Melbourne ( home of the seekers ). When this song came on the radio she would sing along! Going to play it her funeral.
Music will Always be the best way to express and feel emotions, I remember when I was about 11 years old, I grew up with the sixties music and I Always loved a "rougher" style of music, but when I first heared The Carnival Is Over from The Seekers it grabbed me by the throath and I was a fan for life!! (fyi, did Alice Cooper last october here in the Netherlands, loved it, completely different, which shows, there is NO style which can't be appealing).
Good for you. Music has that ability to bring back memories. This video brings me back to my childhood not only by the song but the video production just looks so 60s. Don't know why. The sound quality is fantastic.

Just wonderful to see how she addresses the microphone. No ego, gimmicks, auto-tuning or pitch-correction software.
She just stood there with hands behind her back and belted it out. Absolutely fabulous! How times have changed.
Agreed entirely. Pure talent. I doubt that the version we're listening to was recorded like that however. I'd be very happy to be proved wrong.

Quite possibly the most beautiful song ever recorded. Brings tears to my eyes every single time I listen to it. Judith Durham is a treasure.

Judith Durham probably had the purest voice ever. Her notes are perfect and her diction so clear and precise. It has been a privilege to hear her over the years since The Seekers started. :-)
Perfect song❤
Yes,she and the legendary Karen Carpenter!!!!
Goosebumps every time she hits the high note on the last chorus.
Soy músico y me identifico con The Seekers. Muchas gracias.

This world was blessed with this young lady's gift of song.
I’m sorry for your loss.
