- My Ferris mower slid backwards into my creek almost on top of me. My dad almost drowned the same way...he was watching over me this day...love you mom and dad. I have to use my Defender, then my John Deere 3046R to lift it out of the creek. I dismantle the intake and remove the plugs to remove the water from the engine, change the oil and hope for a win. When you tow hydrostatic machinery you should always open the tow valve on the pumps. Good video!
Andrew I agree, the valve is not easy to get to on the ground let alone in the creek. I did open the valves though once it was high and dry. This mower is one heavy pig...not fun to push in the garage. Thank you for commenting please continue.

Work for a local metro park. Went into the ditches several times. Now I don’t even take a chance if it’s wet. And they don’t care anyway. Lesson learned.

My property here in Western NC is all hills / old terrace rows and I love my ZT simply due to the speed with which I can cut my grass!! I have slid to the bottom of most all of them. I have yet to be in the creek but it isn't for the lack of trying...LOL!! Take care! Mark

An M.D. near Somerset Ky. went through a wooden panel fence over a bluff and into Lake Cumberland while he was mowing on a zero turn mower.Sadly he was killed. Mowers a dangerous on steep yards or on wet ground.

17 years ago my father backed a Kawasaki Mule off a bridge, knocked unconscious, mule on top of him. When he came to his cloths were soaked in gas he crawled out of the creek and called 911. If it wasn't a drought he would've drowned. He spent 6 weeks in the hospital. i hope you can understand that i was a little out of sorts removing the mower from the creek, my cloths were soaked. If the tractor failed the E42 was the next option...it would have craned the mower out. Thanks Joe for your support, the mower runs great...hunt in peace!

I think you saved the Ferris. I have seen this scene before where a Zero Turn mower gets away from us. They are extremely dangerous when on any land that is not completely flat. These mowers are not for everyone even when we operate them with extreme caution. Glad you were not hurt. See you on the trail sometime. Be safe and be well.
Every single bit of my land is not flat. Steep hills. Many obstacles. ZT is EXTREMELY easy to maneuver on NOT FLAT land.
Hope all the waters out. I swamped one of my ATVs once. Had to change the oil five times to get all the water out. Luckily it only took 2 quarts.

That was a very unfortunate accident. I am glad you are okay. Things can be replaced, but people cannot. The winch on your utility vehicle should have worked, if the backend of your UTV was strapped to a tree, to keep it from sliding/losing footing. Also, perfect time to use a snatch-block in a modified winching position. God bless and keep posting your videos, as you have me watching every one of them! Very much enjoy them!

I have to admit, 10 years ago I'd laugh at these expensive mowers as I always bought the MTD cookie cutter type. When it came time to buy another, I happen to come to my senses and I purchased the IS3200. Absolutely the best investment and tool I own. I only wish I'd done it sooner. You won't regret purchasing one.
I think this will be my fourth season...I agree with you I thought my tractor did a fine job mowing my lawn...was I wrong. Be safe happy mowing.

OMG James believe me I know it....very lucky. I stayed extremely calm which was surprising...it actually went in backwards rear slid out from behind me.

Love the video and glad you were able to save the mower, try and see if you can get you some type of tractor like treaded tired for the ferris to help with grips when mowing slopes. But glad you're okay sir.

Glad everything worked out for you. Rather unfortunate that the mower ended up engine first into the creek. At the same time it was rather fortunate that you had the equipment to available to pull out the mower from the creek.
Mower settled engine down, as it tipped I was ejected off, went underwater, I believe the deck hit my thigh and kept it from tipping...tire flotation helped...out don't know it happened fast.

The most important thing is you're ok. I run several of these mowers maintaining my rental properties and encourage you to try a set of 24x12 AT101 tires. The first thing we change are the stock 26's for the AT101's. We cut a lot steep grades / water and the AT's will stick. Cheers.
PT thank you for helping me and understanding my situation. I replaced the tires with Versa turf radial tractor tires and they are awesome. This area along the creek is canted towards the creek and was super greasy...no tire would have held. It was a poor decision on my part to get so close. I will look up your tire. Going straight the rear end of the mower came around and slid into the creek. Thank you for supporting my channel.
I think to be on the safe side I would probably mow for 30 minutes change the oil again then mow the entire property and change the oil one more time just to be on the safe side by the way, you’ve got some really really nice toys and a beautiful piece of property there. Congratulations.

You know Mike the oil reservoir is I believe 6 courts, the engine has run for almost 2 years with no issues. What a great machine. BTW I'm glad an American company builds such a great engine and mower I'm impressed. Thank you for the recommendation.
Did he put the machine in Tow Mode? You can damage the Hyros if you don't. There is usually a relief valve you can activate for towing these machines. Else raise the back wheels while towing.
Thanks David I know that. The valves are not easy to get to especially under water. Machine has been running great.
Always put beer cans down in the yard on the creeks edge so you know not to go down to far the little ferris will mow outside of the beer cans and save you from the slippage into the Large body of water. 💧

I'm glad you didn't sustain permanent physical damage. Perhaps you may want to consider putting up a small barrier to prevent getting too close to that dangerous area again. Zero turn mowers are notorious for having problems handling unlevel mowing areas. God Bless

Yes John you should...not easy to do on this machine on dry level ground...not fun.
Did you change your hydro oil and filters on transmissions on both sides I'm sure they have water in them as well
Peter there was no water in the tranni fluid, machine has run great for two years.
Where did you get that mulch cover?
Brandon that is a must...I researched in on TH-cam and my dealer got it for me. I believe it is called Advanced System you can buy it online...good product. I installed the chute blocker...they should come as an option from the factory. Thank you for supporting my channel.
Hello Marauder, Thanks for your video, I have a 2018 Ferris 72 inch deck IS 3200Z that is the best zero turn i ever owned. I will purchase the Carlisle Versa Turf tires and try them. Have you tryed a Hulstler super Z hyperdrive 40 HP 60 inch deck.? I purchased 2 of them if you want one to purchase? I am picking my up this week and see if i like it better than my Ferris. What PSI do you like for rear tires? I am happy you did not get hurt sliding into your creek. God bless.Be safe. Mike
Mike I'm not familiar with the deck you mention. I believe the tires are at 12psi, they are radials so the Ferris rides even better. Good luck with your new purchase...I hope my property dries out soon.
I mightve ran it for 30 mins to an hour then changed that oil and filter a 2nd time ...thats just me though. Nice video

Michael this was totally operator error and not the problem of the machine my mistake and I knew it was a little greasy moments before I slid into the creek and I’m extremely lucky I wasn’t her although my abdomen and ribs were sore for several weeks and peace thank you I appreciate your comment 😊

That fluid was good and the mower has been running great...it will probably be changed this year.

This is why I will never call ANY zero turn mower "commercial". Even a great brand like Ferris is limited by the zero turn design that easily gets stuck in muck and cannot do real ditches.
John in part I agree with you, but this was operator error on me. This 30’ section where the creek bank sloped towards the creek is not slippery even after rain, but this week the creek crested over the bank…moments before the plunge I knew I made a mistake. I mow my property in a third of the time with the zt than tractor…there are definitely trade offs. I’d love a cab zt they are so cool. Good comment thank you 😊

You'll probably need to change your oil at least another couple of times to get all the water out

I have a Craftsman T240 turn tight series Tractor the dry weight is 630 pounds not including the deck and 3.1 gallons of fuel I know before to get close to soft ground

My next move was the excavator would have boomed it out. I pulled my neighbors tractor out with a pickup truck. Keep changing weapons 😊
@@maraudermitchelli - I did the same thing w/mine. Luckily the engine didn't go under water. I had to pull it out w/my van.
Zero turns are great but you can lose control going downgrade.
@@deanguando1335Yup. You’ve got to keep those back tires moving when you’re heading downhill. If you try to stop yourself by pulling back on the handles you’ll lock the back wheels and loose directional control and likely slide sideways and potentially roll over. So, if you’re mowing downhill make sure you have level run-out room at the bottom of the slope and maybe even accelerate as you’re heading down the hill. And have the ROPS bar up and fasten the seatbelt. If you don’t have run-out room, DON’T DO IT.
Also, a good way to check if the slope is too steep, try backing up the hill from the bottom for a short distance. If you can do it without wheel spin that’s a sign that you’re probably OK.
You need a Ventrac 4520Z... ditch the Ferris.

Sir is that Ferris ISX 800.
It is the next larger model 3300, both are great machines. This. was several years ago and it still runs great. Be safe
Actually the next larger model is the ISX 2200. Looks almost exactly like the IS 3200 shown in this video but has the Vangard 28 hp fuel injected engine with the 5qt oil-guard tank. Biggest deck is 60” vs the maximum 72” deck on the IS 3200 with the 37 hp Vangard.
I was going to buy an ISX 800 but changed my order to the ISX 2200 before delivery because the 2200 has the fully independent suspension and a cushier seat with a higher backrest. I’ve only mowed 4 large yards with it so far but I’m loving how easy it is on my back when I’m driving over tree roots and bumps. Mows great too.
You should have changed the oil before attempting to start it. It's less than $20
If I remember correctly I didn’t try to start the engine, I removed the spark plugs to blow the water out of the cylinders prior to changing the oil.
The 6 courts of oil and filter I believe was close to $90 I thought….I’m not positive this was 2 years ago. But agree with you

If you were really into your mower, you’d take that thing down to parts, and give it a real cleaning in fix but yeah clean it off and trade it in. It’s easier.
Prime reason I dont buy used things from people. Engine was run for 1 too many seconds with water in the crankcase and you never checked the hydros....
It’s been almost a year and the mower is running great. I did check the drive system off camera and it was fine and still is. I agree with you, but this is a well made engine and has held up great despite the operator. Be safe thank for commenting
Problem is didn’t see you flush out the remainder of contaminated oil out
I emptied the oil and tilted the mower so it would drain fully. I'm not saying a perfect job but this happened three years ago and it has been running great. Thank you for commenting be safe.

So you should not own one of these mowers. Your father got hurt doing the same thing, but you did it too.
You have a small tractor, use an offset cutter or a weed trimmer for work that close to a creek. I mean you have a tiny property to manage.
Then you roll a damaged mower into the garage and blast water on your gas cans, then jack up your mower and get under it without secondary jack stands or when chucks.
This is a PERFECT example of guys buying outside their experience. You are a serious accident waiting to happen.
Are you being a little too rough on Peter? I can attest that he is very safety minded and thus has lived this long even though he operates hundreds of different types of equipment. Those zero turns are always a challenge. I took a wild ride on one myself. They are fast mowers and yes there may be better ways to get the job done.
Craig everyone has a right to their opinion...you are correct on many levels. During my day I have so many things I'm trying to get done and running through my mind, family, business, customers, employees, friends maintaining my yard with has so many healthy benefits to me mentally and physically especially with my diabetes. I was rushing to mow the property before the weekend and coming rain, it's been a very wet 3 years. The mower ended up in the creek totally due to operator error, even professionals make mistakes. My father didn't slide his mower into the creek, he backed a Kawasaki mule off the edge of a bridge, it fell on top of him, when he regain consciousness he cloths were soaked in gas, he crawled out of the creek into his house and called 911. My father's accident happened during a drought otherwise he would have drowned. I was out of sorts after my car accident, and swimming in the creek, you're correct on the gas cans I noticed when editing the video and the jack, although the jack has a safety latch on it. I often do things outside my experience level, I've done this my entire life with no regrets that's how we gain experience, you'll probably realize this as you get older. As i get older I want to do the things I couldn't do when i was younger. Thank you for your comment, don't stop criticizing me as I do learn from comments like yours. Oh did look into a 3pt sickle mower but decided not buy one. Stay safe.

@@maraudermitchelli more excuses. a safety latch on the jack you are actively is a single point of failure. It’s not safe, the fact you tried to use that UTV and then didn’t double strap that mower with the JD and angle pulled it out wrong.
Then no hearing protection, servicing a potentially damaged mower inside, blasting water all over the cans. In the end you were more interested in talking about how the mower sounds and making a video over taking minimum safety precautions.
You weren’t out of sorts enough not to try and make a video. I get it you want to show off your toys, that’s great. I like doing that too. But spend more time on safety. You are pitching this to “young people” as some advice, show them by example good safety.

You're absolutely correct poor decision by the operator. The Ferris is an excellent mower.
