Very good video, thank you. I found 13 zerks on my 2020 IS 600Z. That is according to my owner's manual. The front wheel pivots have zerks installed, three zerks on the blade spindles in total, one on each deck lifting bellcrank right in front of the transmission pivots. These locations are in addition to what you greased. I bring this up as a critique, certainly NOT criticism. Really, the best video I have seen for this particular mower. Just trying to help.
A informative video. I just bought one of these a couple of weeks ago with a 48” deck. 48” was the largest I could find in the IS600Z right now as availability on mowers is not great right now. You showed me 2 additional fittings I didn’t know about. The 2 that were really in a tight spot... so thank you for that. At the 6:27 mark you point to a bolt on the back side of the axle/spindle for the front tire.... That bolt is also on the other side. The owner where I bought my mower said Ferris used to put zerk fittings there instead of a bolt. The put the bolt in because the zerk fittings kept getting broken off and were a pain to remove. He told me to remove both bolts and put a zerk fitting in, grease it, remove the zerk fitting and put the bolt back in and then do the same to the other side. He said make sure to put the bolts back in or there was a 90%+ chance of breaking the zerk fittings. I picked up a couple of zerk fittings off of Amazon and made sure mine had grease in them and then put the bolts back in. What grease are you using on your mower? I looked through all the local available machines before my purchase. Believe it or not, I test drove the Huskvarna, cub cadet, Toro, John Deere, Hustler, exMark, Simplicity and Ferris. The Simplicity and exMark were pretty awesome, but for the money the Ferris was hands down the most solidly built. It doesn't hurt that I live 20 minutes from the Ferris factory!
I'm considering purchasing this mower to replace my 2004 Husqvarna 2348. The suspension and the 25 hp B & S engine is pretty appealing.. The only thing I would miss over my Husqvarna is that it only carries 5 gallons of fuel. The Husky has two 5 gallon tanks. Other than that, it seems to be a beauty. Thanks for the video.
I hear you on the tank issue. The Ferris only holds 5 gallons, I can confirm. I mow for approximately 60 minutes 1-2 times a week. At the medium speeds I mow I can get 3? mows out of a tank? maybe? I never even thought about bigger gas tanks, but damn that would be nice. I have to say it's a beauty though.
Great point. I checked the striping kit and it was adjusted properly (e.g. level). Unfortunately it doesn’t stripe my lawn well because “crab grass doesn’t stripe well”
Blade retention bolt according to my manual is 120 ft-lb. You also can use a block of wood to tighten, but I think I like the wrench idea a little better.
I have a 2006 Simplicity Citation, same specs as your 600z, I couldn't tell for sure but it didn't look like you had the easy removable floor plate that provide access to the belts and pulleys of your deck, along with that center grease fitting. There are 8 bolts and nuts that have to be removed to remove that floor plate, and 4 of them are attached to other parts. I have considered cutting a hole in that floor plate to make greasing that center spindle easier, but have not done so. EDIT I saw the removable floor plate when you were washing your Ferris, must be newer than mine, I think that was a late enhancement for access.
On the unboxing instructions it says to replace the 2 1/4" bolts on the front wheel swivels with grease nipples so who ever assembled it missed out on replacing them with grease nipples
Damn good to know brotha. They delivered it assembled as part of the purchase price. I’ll see if I can find where they go and pick up a couple of zirc fittings
@@beardedgarage at 6:27 in the video you can see the removable bolt that gives a spot to install the grease fittings, the thing is that if your Ferris came with permanently enclosed bearings it will do little good to add grease to these locations, and without removing the bearings there is no way to know. My 2006 Simplicity Citation is the same mower as your Ferris 600, and I don't even have the removable bolts, so I am assuming they are sealed bearings, I also don't have grease fittings on the two front wheels. Loved the video.
Thanks for the informative video. Quick question: when you power washed the mower, did you just foam the whole thing? Is there no need to cover up the engine? I plan to do a power wash too so just checking on any precautions required.
No real precautions, i foamed the whole thing. I personally don’t focus a lot of water on the engine area just to be sure, and I use a relatively low angle nozzle so the water isn’t going to get up in there. Thanks for tuning in!
Try checking all fuse housings under the seat, I had same problem with blades not working, turns out one of the fuse housing's was full of water 👍 hope that helps
As per your request! Remove the two bolts on the two casters on the front. Install nipples and grease. Reinstall the bolts. Dont forget oil/filter and the trans oil/filter😊 Why on earth are you cutting in a mud bog🙄. And it may be a good idea to clean before you work on it. Did I fill the " give you crap" quota. Otherwise..nice vid!
i get that kind of build up under my 61'' ferris about every few mows and if you dont clean it out and try to cut taller grass it just loads up more grass under the deck when cutting until no grass is being thrown out and it starts bogging down the motor..its ridiculous..the deck design is a cheaped out afterthought on ferris mowers..spent all the money on the suspension that i think is pretty much worthless and just causes turning and cutting problems
I understand some of your sentiments, but I have a equal size John Deere and the Ferris is head and shoulders above the deere. I used to agree the suspension was overrated until I mowed the same lot with the same size Deere. Ferris all the way!

The front casters need grease too. You need to remove 1/4- 28 bolt and install same size grease fitting. Then reinstall bolt.

You have any ideas on why my blades won't engage, they were working and now stopped
Try checking all fuse housings under the seat, I had same problem with blades not working, turns out one of the fuse housing's was full of water 👍 hope that helps
