That's because audio compression is modeled around human hearing. Higher frequencies are less important to us than low ones, so cutting them doesn't affect the information in the sound as much as cutting the lower ones does. Cutting high frequencies is exactly what putting your ears underwater does to the sound they receive as well.

The music of my childhood nightmares. I remember the levels being so hard or nearly impossible that had this pretty good music.
It must really be saying something when I say that I was more excited for this song to be restored than I was when Mining Melancholy was done. And Mining Melancholy is my favorite song on this soundtrack.

1:11, man, I've always had this scene in my head - We see Diddy and Dixie running through a forest, towards the fortress, then pan to the night sky and zoom in on a full moon. Then we zoom out to see DK in his cell looking at the same moon, sad but hopeful. Then fade to a shot of an endless army of marching kremlings, with K.Rool laughing maniacally, superimposed in half opacity on top of that.
Damn, David Wise could tell an entire story with a few minutes of 16 bit melody.

Lots to say about this one. First, I fucking hated Toxic Tower (has this music too) and I struggled with the first part of the course when I starting singing along with this: "Toxic Tower. Need a buddy....and you get the snake!!!!!!! Not the spider...but the Stupid Snake!" Anyway as the level progresses you get the spider and Squawks so... Also with this "enhanced" version until this I never really listened to how complex the second section of this song is. Starting with the ostinato ( A, Bflat, D, F) then that also developed with an extra eighth note (F) to make it sound sped up. The fanfare just started on all F(s) but the chords B flat where the notes the 5th to E flat where it becomes the 9th (love those ninths) I won't bore you analyzing all the harmonic progressions going on, but with a lot of David Wise's works, you take a repeating pattern, and then have fun with different chords underneath creating that AHHHHHHH feeling and a sense of resolution that still has a bit of dissonace, but who cares because it's sounds so nice. Okay, I'll shut up now.

This track made toxic tower way too stressful.
I replayed the level so many times after dying that I knew exactly which part of the level would come up just based on the music.
Probably my favorite level in the entire game.
Please keep doing this for DKC. It is truly amazing what you are doing for the DKC community.

An audio restoration, that's a very interesting concept, for the love of the original themes your work offers a nowadays quality with the soundfonts from the original tracks, the result is great, I definitely feel the difference of quality and the depth of the sounds.
Krook's March is one of my fav DK tracks, actually it's the only DK I've made a cover of it :)
I will never forget this beat; of course because it's awesome, but also because I literally died about 600 times will trying to get through toxic tower!
