I also agree. I remember my stepfather buying DKC1 when it came out, and we all marveled both at the graphics and music, as a family. I miss having no Internet, no cellphone, yet still both talking to and connecting with people.
The first time in my life that I recall stopping in a video game just to appreciate the music was when I was 7 years old playing through this game for the first time in an age before the internet, before there was an available soundtrack, and it was specifically on this level. I had never heard anything so majestic and I rarely ever have since.

I don't recall where I saw the interview, but I think it was one of the game developers that explained the purpose of this level, and the calming music was in a sense of to relax the player because this level came after the first somewhat difficult level. Rare was a top tier studio during the 90s and had great music to, their follow up game killer instinct had its own soundtrack packed in with the game called Killer Cuts.
I'm so glad this project exists. I wish we had this for more games. Remixes and covers are great and all, but hearing the original, clean, uncompressed music the way it was first composed is so much more satisfying. It's like getting new glasses. Everything looks so much sharper, the way it was always meant to look and not just another interpretation of it. Except instead of your eyes it's your ears.
F minor7 (add 11th, 13th) to B flat. i - IV always beautiful. The other chordal tones around it and modulations also very nice. The end with the harmonica-like sound, is too much like "That's What Friends are For".
I didnt think anyone else actually listened to this stuff like that but me. And then I find out people remastered it because they loved it even more than I do. You earned the sub, and thanks for making my nerdy interests feel like something that was excepted!

Everyone is always talking about specific levels, but no one besides me appreciates how amazing the Rare Logo music + Intro theme was. I wish I could hear a remastered version of those.
At 1:27, the theremin it's supposed to echo three times, here it only echoes twice. (in the original the third echo is very subtle, but it's there). With each echo it pans left-right-left. (Actually it follows this pattern every time there's echoing going on). Here it sounds like it's just center panned. I also feel the theremin should definitely be a bit harsher (boosted in the high-end) and a bit louder. In the section that comes right after, it needs more reverb in this part (listen to the last note when the notes go up - in the original the highest note lingers longer due to the reverb). Every other instrument sounds perfect though! I can't blame you for that - the theremin is definitely the most difficult instrument in this composition (I saw how much trouble it was giving in the livestream!)
When the soundtrack of a video games causes people to write deep introspective comments about the simplicity of childhood. This song really does invoke such a well of emotion for me.
i can't believe I was 8 years old when this came out. damn 3rd grade yo. I remember playing outside with my fellow neighboorhood kids on my block. Saturday morning; up and at 'em early: 8 am outside with our bikes. Not knowing what's planned for the rest of the day ahead. So, play outside for a little. Take a bike ride down town maybe. Come back, mid afternoon sometime. Decide to go to friend's house from the block. Play this game for hours. Parents call me in for dinner time. Go outside at night ajd play manhunt or hide and seek. Next thing we're in, call it the day/night. Repeat for Sunday.

i-is this real? i MUST be dreaming. so glad you've finally found that steel keg sample!
Doesn't this mean he can restore mining melancholy? If it does I'm gonna cry 🤩🤩🤩
@@oceanschok8943 aaaand he did :'3
Still blows my mind that they were able to get THIS quality of music out of a SNES!
The SNES had an insanely good soundchip, thats why so many SNES games have such awesome music.
Yeah the SNES was the only system that Nintendo put out that was the most technically advanced game system at one time.
@@Mythical444n64 was, GameCube aswell until the Xbox came out.
The first time in my life that I recall stopping in a video game just to appreciate the music was when I was 7 years old playing through this game for the first time in an age before the internet, before there was an available soundtrack, and it was specifically on this level. I had never heard anything so majestic and I rarely ever have since.
Wow
This song and Stickerbrush symphony used to make me feel very emotional in a depressing way, yet I loved both songs. So sometimes I wouldn't even listen to it just because of the mood it out me in. I've grown a lot from those times. This song still makes me feel emotional, but in a very warm and heart felt way these days.
damn..this hits my soul.
I can hear the ghosts and the evil spirits of the forest laughing at me when listening to this. What a masterpiece.
What a time to be alive to relive your childhood through the music we grew up playing/listening too .
This and Aquatic Ambiance are the most ascending tracks from this game, not only do they take you back but they invoke this deep emotion that can only really be understood by hearing it. Amazing for its time and still holds up.
both from different games though
I agree, but Aquatic Ambience is DKC1, Forest Interlude is DKC2
@@zs23100 stickerbrush symphony comes close though
The restoration makes it feel like there was more to this song overall. Impeccable.

Amazing restoration. This was one of the first games I ever owned when I got SNES and it is my favorite track. Thanks from Venezuela!
I wasn't around when this game was Released, But Am I glad I was around for this restoration. This sounds Amazing!
This songs makes wanna go back to my room when I was 6 and play this game again knowing that my mom is alive and well at her room. I miss you so much, mom. I think about you everyday.. Love you so..

No doubt that this is the best restoration so far, as progress doing those awesome restorations, you're becoming even better in doing so, congratulations man, you're reviving a lot of peoples childhood. Thank you!
No
Yeah. Agreed
@@firestriker3580 stfu. This s the best restore ever. Didn't you hear the super nice ending sam created. All the others are just boring fade outs, but he added 2 extra notes to make a good ending. Also, this whole track sounds so much better than all the other restorations.
It's difficult for me to find another SNES song that has the ability to give me near-constant chills. There are parts of me that wish I could experience this level and song for the very first time again.
I love Stickerbrush Symphony as much as the next guy but I love this even more but the entire soundtrack for this game is so good it's unreal.

That end part you added was so magical. It felt like I was listening to this for the first time all over again. Sadly cut short for it being the end of the song n all, but still, chills all over.
Thank you for restoring this. This brings me back to being a kid and starting up my snes in the morning and trying to beat these levels.

The entire soundtrack is AMAZING!. "Ship Hold", for example, makes me feel Goosebumps. It's so powerful and Well done.
David Wise made the most VGM of DKC2 by himself, thats why all the music on DKC2 feels so armonic
Chills. Pure chills. Sat down with my dad (who has played and also loves the trilogy) today to listen to this and we listened to it prolly 5 times. Its wonderful.
Absolutely wonderful. Great job.
Pretty cool that you can do that with your dad.
@@DKCreo Yea man I'm glad I can. Specially because its Christmas again soon and as some sort of tradition my mum dad sister and me are going to play the trilogy from start to finish. ☺️
When you finally recover from covid.
Curently on my way to that happiness.
Back when games were made with the idea of “how creative can we be” vs today “how much money can we make”
Gaming industry doomers when you show them indie games (they had no idea that's where all the good ideas are)
Bruh the latter has always been true, it' just worst compared to back than.
You wont get fun out of most AAA's anymore, but indie devs have got you covered
Bb Mixolydian?
The soundtrack is so crisp love it!! Very good job!
I've played this game for years and I literally, just now, noticed the dynamic lightbeams through the background.
this song is both happy and melancholy at the same time. i dont know how, i just feel it.
This gives me PTSD of trying to get the DK Coin on those Ghost-Vine-Things
Sam! Did you actually find the steel keg noise?! I can't believe it!
This sounds so perfect. Thank you so much for restoring my favorite song!
when you've completely redone the entire game, will you release the whole OST onto one video? I'd like that
Or ya know... a playlist.
Or a downloadable album

I didnt think anyone else actually listened to this stuff like that but me. And then I find out people remastered it because they loved it even more than I do. You earned the sub, and thanks for making my nerdy interests feel like something that was excepted!
This was my favourite music from the game. I remember spending longer on these levels to enjoy the music and left the Kongs idle when I did my homework back in the day. Thanks for the remaster of this Sam and thanks to David for the original. Respect to both creators.
This is one I had been waiting for for a long time.. and it sounds absolutely amazing, thank you for your awesome work!

Thanks from Venezuela, I love this platform game, is my favorite.
South America in general is very down to Earth like these games are. It's no surprise so many people from that place like these games :)
Played DKC and DKC2 today for the first time in a very long time. When I got to this stage I paused the game midway through and just started listening. Brought back so many memories of when I was a kid. This is one of the tracks that first got me interested in music.. beautiful work David Wise. Cheers.

amazing job
i didnt realize how visually stunning this game is. I love the light rays moving and peeking through the canopy! So much texture!
from the golden era of video games
Yeah I noticed that as well at 1:27 it's kinda distracting because I know how the original sounds like.
Theremin? I always thought it was a panflute.
Also, at exactly 0:40, that first high-pitched xylophone-ish sample on the 3rd beat is different in the original
shut up nerds

i can't believe I was 8 years old when this came out. damn 3rd grade yo.
