  • Hello Again Everyone! Today I decided to Ride My 2020 Honda GoldWing DCT for the very first time. Keep in mind that I'm new to Motorcycle World and this is my first ride after about 15 years. I definitely need some practice and I believe I'm catching up. the goldwing is well balanced which makes it super easy to ride. I love the combination of colors. I hope you enjoy watching. follow me and see if i will eventually get better after a couple of weeks or months.

      My first bike was 56 years ago on a Rupp minibike. A Kawasaki 100 trail bike. A Yamaha 125 Endureo. A Yamaha 175 motocross bike. Then a BSA 250 street bike, A BSA 441 Victor. A 250 Bultaco Motocross bike. A Husky 250 motocross bike. Then a Yamaha Big Bear, Then a Honda CB 550, A Suzuki 400 Endureo. A Harley Sportster which me & my older brother made into a flat tracker so I could race it locally. A Honda 750 street bike, A Kawasaki 900 street bike. A Honda Valkyrie. A Honda VTX 1800. Now that I am an old man in my 60's it's back to the Honda Valkyrie Interstate, an old mans bike that is smooth, heavy & powerful. Ride it like you stole it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you bust your ass get up & do it again faster. That way you won't be scared of it. Enjoy your new ride.

    You’ll be fine, don’t listen to the haters just practice and in time you’ll gain your confidence. So far you’re
    off to a good start. Listening to people making you doubt yourself is worst than not having much experience.

      I agree. I thought the Goldwing was too big for my first bike. I got a CTX 1300 which is only a touch smaller. It was scary for me at first, too. Started slow just going around the block for a couple for weeks, then ventured out to a parking lot practicing MotoJitsu skills. Didn't take long until I was weaving back and forth in consecutive parking spaces and doing figure 8's in 2x2 parking spaces. Once I got over leaning AND turning the handlebars at the same time, trusting the bike would fall over with forward momentum...then things fell into place. I am all over the place now and wish I had the Goldwing.

      @@James-cn9no Wow James, thank you for sharing you story, I'm really sorry that you had to listen to some "experts" and buying a smaller bike and then regret it. these guys know nothing and they just pretend that they do. they think riding a motorcycle is a rocket science, since it is their biggest accomplishment. honestly whenever i ride i keep laughing at them that they always make things sound bigger. but i hope that you get your goldwing one day soon, and please let me know when you got it, I will be happy to hear that news. happy to have you here my friend.

      Just get comfortable with it. It is a big bike for a starter, but my first bike was a 750. I was nervous the first time I took it out too. I just kept thinking it was too big. After 2 weeks I wish I would have bought the one I really wanted because it felt so small. Practice a lot, take some classes to get comfortable, and ride safe brother.
      Beautiful bike!

    Be careful, be cautious, until your experience grows. A helpful suggestion: do not roll through stop signs. Not just because it's dangerous, but because every stop sign is a chance to practice a safe, controlled stop, left foot down as you come to a complete stop. Nice neighborhood! ;)

      Agree 100% with Clay. There are certain things you do to keep safe on riding street. If you come to a stop sign the first thing you do is always stop. I always put my left foot down and look around to make sure other cars or such are not running it. My other suggestion would be to find a open flat parking lot and practice there (riding roads is really not practicing or same). Slow speed uturns, emergency stops, head/body/bike turns, looking into uturns, etc.

    Please stop at EVERY stop sign. Put your feet down and set to take off again. Rollin thru stops even tho you can see that your path is clear will lead to a bad habit that in the least will get you a ticket and in the worst will put you in danger. Either you start good habits now or save your self and someone else from having a really really bad day and dont ride at all.

Sometimes you just want to enjoy the ride. I’ll admit I do still like thrashing the gears on my other bike but not all the time. Ride as often as possible, and try to work in Econ and tour mode at slow speed while covering the rear brake with light pressure. This will help you develop the slow speed handling that’s necessary when having to place the bike with confidence where you want to place it. Keep your head up and look where you want to go. Above all take a course and enjoy your bike.

    When you went in you went all in. No finer motorcycle on the market than the new dct goldwing. I would suggest riding in eco mode for the first 1500 miles

    • @PipeWrencher
      @PipeWrencher  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You Got It My friend. I start with rain mode and now I'm mostly on tour mode, I make a video about why I prefer the tour mode over the rain mode, watch it if you have time and let me know if I'm wrong. haven't tried the econ yet, but will do next time.

    • @shaneevc8879
      @shaneevc8879 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      An explanation of the modes. - DCT short shifts, in that it shifts up at lower revs to save fuel and very tame power mapping. -DCT holds gears longer at lower speeds to lession the effects of shifts on wet roads and very tame power mapping. - Normal shift pattern and adapts to your current riding needs with good engine performance. - Full engine performance mapping and DCT holds on to gears to bring revs into the power segment of the bike - BASICALLY "Hold the hell on" as it's an unreal animal. I have one and did a standing start in sport mode which saw the back lay rubber, drift and lift the front wheel (no Traction control in the non-tour model in Aus). You will love it, I do.

    Unlike other people I'm not going to chastise you for this bike choice
    however when I see you riding 25 miles an hour on a major road it makes me nervous because I can see that you don't have confidence to ride that bike
    you seem like a nice man I want to see many of your videos and I want you to be healthy
    also rain mode is a horrible choice because you want to understand the way the throttle feels and giving that delay between throttle and power is something that's meant for the rain and not for learning that bike so please don't use that mode
    we are here to watch you and I know many people will buy a Harley-Davidson as their first motorcycle
    that happens hundreds of times a year so it is not unusual to choose a large bike like this
    but I want you to find a way to get confidence. The parking lot maneuvers are one thing but please don't drive around on major roads at half the speed limit because that's exceedingly dangerous
    thanks for sharing all of this with us and I'm not here again to chastise you what I'd like you to be around here for a long time to come
    please take care of yourself and your family and thanks again for sharing with us and congratulations on a very beautiful motorcycle

    When I first started riding I wanted to get the BMW K1200, similar to the Gold Wing. Everyone said start with a lighter bike. I'm glad I did. It takes time for your brain to figure out motorcycle dynamics and it will be more difficult on a heavy bike.
    I know you don't want to hear this but you will learn faster on a lighter bike. So get a smaller used bike, take a MSF course and learn how to ride. At a certain point everything will click and you'll be able to ride with confidence.
    Take care.
