My grandpa had 2 of them from the 80’s. He’s a self employed handyman, and when his Chevy has impounded for not being registered, he used it to pull his 7 by 8 foot trailer for work. He also has a much bigger trailer that his motorcycle, obviously, couldn’t pull. Before he had to sell it when his landlords sold the property he was living on, he sold his gold wings because he needed money to buy a 5th wheel to live in, in the side yard of my uncle’s house. When I was little he would drive me around on his bike, and it was awesome. I think that experience is hey I love touring bikes so much.
i notice a big issue with the new bikes coming out and with this new goldwing, and it has to do with rider distractions, notice how deeply involved it takes to just learn what button does what, and you can watch text messages and youtube videos on it? what ever happened to the older days when a bike had none of this new techno stuff and you just fired 'er up and rode into the wind, no techno, no gadgets, no figuring out what buttons to push while riding, did we forget the real reason for riding into the wind? just sayin'
@@vulcanizer44 in all fairness, when you buy a new car you don't just go out and shoot it for youtube. You read the manual and then make a video showing perspective buyers what everything does. This guy just drops 20 Adrenalin pils, opens it up, exaggerates everything to the max, and then says on camera, "Sorry car guy, I'm just gonna take a right here and I don't know where the indicators are" ! And that folks is what is wrong with youtubers that think they are celebreties.. it's an accident waiting to happen. If you read the manual, you'd know what stuff does. Stuff is complicated so you need to read the manual.. else buy a Harley :(
I know that I’m a bit late to the conversation, but there’s still tons of simple bikes out there, there’s also complicated ones like you’ve said. More choice is good, there’s literally a bike to suit all tastes and needs.
Hey Sean, watching your videos really helped me make my decision and I took delivery of a 2019 dct tour airbag model. What an incredible machine. When I'm done riding I want to hop back on and ride some more...lol...thanks for your informative and lighthearted videos. Ride safe!
This thing rides amazing, I test rode a DCT model, it shifts EXACTLY when you expect, like its wired to your brain. It is also super well balanced, no issues at all with low speed handling.
its funny to see how people bash a bike because its competitor to the bike they own. most haven't even rode the bike and bashing it. No its not perfect and no bike is. Its the person who owns there bike who thinks there bike is perfect for them. we are bike riders, and for me all bikes I have owned I loved, maybe not loved by others, but loved by me, and thats all that matters.
The biggest critics of a Goldwing are the narrow minded HD owners that have never ridden a Goldwing. Having owned HD,, Indian, Yamaha, Kawasaki and Honda.. the Goldwing is the only bike I bought a second one of. And the only one I would
I have a 21 wing at 73 years old. I've ridden them all. I love this bike! It's awesome. Downfall, lots of coin for some very cool accessories. Oh well, can't take it with you.
Trump is a true patriot??? That's bizarre. His life's record is one of selfish, not patriotic behaviour, from faking(buying) his medical record to escape military service, to endlessly choosing self interest over that of his fellow citizens in leaving a trail of bankruptcies that favoured himself, so a selfless patriot he is not.
Jess Hilton when we met he said he would never date a gal that didn’t ride. I’m 56 and never been without a bike since I got my license. Owned three Harleys. In a CTX 1300 now.. getting the white DCT. That easy we can have the best of both worlds. Love President Trump and that we finally have someone fighting for We the People!
Dude, you were killin' me when throttling the bike...I want to get back on a bike so badly I can taste the air. I sold my HD Fatboy and promised my wife I wouldn't ride again. A good friend of mine passed away after a pick up truck drove into his line of travel while Ken was doing 60. RIP buddy. Well, I'm 71 now and should a bike be my demise, bruh, I'll be happy. I want to do a coast to coast tour and camp along the way and this new Gold Wing is what the doctor prescribes. Great ride and review!
If a wife of mine told me I had to give up a bike or her... I would go find my helmet!! No way would I ever agree to giving up something I love for someone else. Yea it's dangerous and yes you may die, but there are only 2 vehicles I have ever seen only happy people on... #1 any Jeep of the CJ/Wrangler family and ANY motorcycle!! If you can keep the bike up on 2 wheels then go for it, if not get a trike and live life while you still can... It's too short any way!!
Alexander Weaver I bought one of these new this year, I wanted to go from Phoenix to Charlotte NC to visit my son. The stock seat hurt like heck after 200 miles. You can only carry 20 pounds in each bag, I don’t see how I can carry any camping gear. I’m 65, 6 ft tall and 190 lbs. it will take me 10 or 11 days to get there, currently equipped. GPS is marginal at best, stock AM/FM range is very weak, The XM radio is the cure, I think, but that’s 200 dollars for the antenna, a subscription, and 2.5 hours to install it.
I fell in love with the gold wing when I was younger and I was on the back of my dads 97 and we pulled a hill accelerating in 6 th gear with both of us on it .... even that model had some ass
Great review, just one pick. The reverse and forward on the DCT are engaged in the transmission not like the old electric starter reverse. The non DCT reverse is done by the starter and doesn't have the forward walking mode. I love your videos!
I test rode one of these during last years Sturgis Rally. The hardest part was no clutch...I ride a Victory, and the no clutch was VERY hard to get used to. I test rode a bunch of bikes, and this was my second favorite. (I had an 2002 GoldWing for a couple of years..this one was completely different!!). Nice bike, not for me, but nice bike.
I use to have a pearl blue metallic ST1300A and this bike appears to be the same color. I was so sad to see the ST1300A be discontinued. I see why, this thing looks so much like the ST only full of high tech and on steroids. Very cool bike, makes me want one again.
In 2017, I was looking for the ST1300 and I was so disappointed for not finding it. So I have bought an FJR1300. I have just parted ways with the FJR for the 2023 DCT. I do feel your pain about that.😥
I have the BMW K1600GT and test rode the new goldwing. OMG it was so nice and almost as fast as my bike in sport mode. Close enough to still have a ton of fun and be super comfortable on. I'm really thinking of getting a left over 2018 DCT model.
Sorry I should adjust my earlier comment, sometimes he wears those in videos but I'm not sure if the are gardening gloves or not. Although I have seen gardening glove like that. As for protection they seem to be adequate enough to keep most of your skin on but you could probably break your wrist still. As for whether or not he has knowledge of bikes, I give him benefit of doubt; after all he runs a motorcycle dealer. As for suggesting dangerous behavior he seemed to be joking and in support of hand free cell phone use. As for turn signals he doesn't use them much at all in other videos. He can use hand signals legally as well so it's not that bad that he doesn't know where the switch is. He should signal though.
I guess he considers himself a hipster with those gloves, jeans with huge cuffs, etc. He also calls it driving the bike. That right there means he knows nothing about motorcycles. He's just a fast talking salesperson.
Wow! Goldwing takes itself to a whole new touring level. Lots of bells and whistles but too many distractions for city driving for me but for touring it may be ok. I just get on my bike and go there's a lot going on when navigating traffic. I need my attention on these streets at all times.
The forward/reverse creep does NOT operate off an electric motor as you state. It works by slipping the clutches electrically. When you pressed the + - button to initiate the forward/reverse creep, did you hear the engine rpm increase? That's to allow the clutches to slip without stalling the engine. The manual trans new Goldwing uses an electric motor (the integrated starter/generator) to power the reverse mode. Warning: do not use the forward/reverse creep on the DCT excessively, as the clutches slipping will overheat the DCT oil, causing a warning light to illuminate, and you'll have to shut off the bike to allow the DCT oil to cool off.
8:20 I know I've been riding an automatic scooter since 2011 - it is sooo nice not to have to shift and just drive. Great video and amazing machine - my dream would be lighter bike and a smaller motor say 575lbs & 900cc?
Kawasaki Vulcan 900, probabaly one of the best bikes I have ever owned. Only weighs a bit over 600 pounds, 903 cc motor but has that big bike feel. Highly reccomend it
@@toys641 that's what I currently ride. It's fun. I used to own a goldwing, though, so I miss the smoother ride at higher speeds. Will go back to a goldwing eventually, or perhaps a BMW (when I get rich...).
Man, I have to say. I LOVE THIS VIDEO!!! I just left my local Honda store and looked at a blue 2019 one and then left and watched this video. Your energy and explanation is perfect. I didn’t want the video to end. Great job. And I have to get this bike!
I know this comment isn’t Gold Wing related but the Honda CTX700 is just as good looking as this is I hope Honda keeps the CTX700 motorcycle around but update it with the Honda NC750 drive train and offering it with a manual transmission and a DCT transmission to and add cruise control system just like this Gold Wing has.
I'm glad you enjoyed the ride, I rode the DCT I couldn't stand it! It was cold and I was underneath a full face helmet, can't hear the radio at all at highway speeds! I have Android so all car Apple stuff's gone, everybody watching might want to check out my 8500 review on the F6B, yeah no bells and whistles, but those things get old, and if you're not a huge cross-country Rider, you will not use half of the stuff, my phone does everything the apple carplay does and more! I like the madstad windshield better than the up and down windshield on the DCT, but the worst thing about the DCT is yeah, you can't pull in the clutch and glide! Impossible, that's a big part of my ride, the DCT just never match up Shifting the way I wanted it to on any mode. Everybody watching please absolutely take a test ride before you go out and order one. If I was in the market I would buy a 2016 F6B with a couple thousand miles on it, you can get one for around $13,000 now, almost a third of the price, and a great bike! Is there a lot of people that love these bikes, and yes there are a lot of pluses to this by, the maneuverability with the rear trunk, feels just like my F6B, which is totally different than the GL 1800, so I don't want to trash your review, but for me the F6B is King!
YOU are 100 percent right.... this bike blows...and this guy is in the tank for it, gotta be gettin paid or a kick back somehow.. not true rider would be sold on this POS.
Growing up, I always thought the ultimate proof that you were a geezer was you rode a Goldwing. With the new '18 and above Goldwings, I have completely changed my mind. Granted, now I myself am a geezer so maybe that's part of it, but damn, this bike looks SO good and so comfortable to ride. I gots to get me one.
Goldwing has always been the Cadillac of all bikes and man I'm glad I watch this video brother I'm missing out that thing is super sweet I'm lost for words man👊👊👍👍👍👍👍
I have previous gen 1800, when I ride with my buddies who have Ultras I can be five bikes back when he cracks the throttle and blow right past the noise lol!.
The main thing about Honda's flat six engine is it is ultra reliable/ smooth/ long lasting. Keep one serviced and they will run way longer than pretty much any other bike or car engine out there. I know of one guy just shy of a million miles on one that has never had the engine split. Having had BMW bikes they sure are not problem free and my Honda Valkyrie with a 1500 goldwing engine never misses a beat. Most of the other issues are pretty much down to personal tastes. I would not be surprised if Honda launched a 'FatWing' version of this bike at some point with super large luggage that some jockys demand.
The Honda Valkyrie is one sweet ride. That's my idea of how a bike with a big engine should sound when you twist your right wrist quickly. And then once you have run out of throttle to twist it's like a big cat purring away as you fly down the highway. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles like the Goldwing does but I'm okay with that. Put a decent holder for something like an iPad mini so you have GPS and your choice of some good tunes and voila you have everything you need. Maybe some hand and seat warmers for those days when it's a bit chilly. I'm guessing that because it's a Honda it will last forever if you keep up the maintenance on it.
It sounds awesome and your enthusiasm reflects it well. I am well away from affording such luxury, one can dream though. One small note: the DCT version has 7 speeds, while the manual has 6 speeds. So I guess they gave the people everything and then more.
On the DCT model, walking forward and back is not 'electrically' powered. It is engine powered. On the manual shift new Goldwing, you have the electric motor doing walking reverse duty. No walking forward mode (on the manual shift model) probably because it's so easy to feather the clutch in first gear to accomplish that. // Do not worry about the DCT 'shifting at the right time'. I own the DCT model (Tour) and the transmission is always there. Always. Remember, the DCT is not truly an automatic. An automatic has a torque converter. Lossy until you get to cruising speed and then a good torque converter will lock up to efficiently transfer all engine torque. The DCT has two dry clutches; one shifts the odd-numbered gears and the other shifts the even-numbered gears. No single lossy torque converter taking care of all gears. In this arrangement, one clutch is engaged and the other is ready in an instant to switch you to the next gear. It's faster than you can do it manually and the DCT is always keeping your RPM at its best. BTW, the DCT has 7 forward gears whereas the manual has 6. The Tour mode is for daily driving but the Sport mode will pin your ears back! The Rain mode disengages the Torque Control to lessen the possibility of the rear tire slipping on acceleration. // You can manually shift the DCT at any time; the plus and minus paddles on the left handlebar will do that. You can choose to up or downshift while in Drive (automatic) mode or you can switch to Manual mode and do all the shifting yourself. Also, you can optionally get a toe shifter. You still don't have a clutch lever, but you can let your left foot do all the shifting if you want. Even when shifting manually, the DCT won't let you over-rev the engine; it'll downshift automatically when you return the throttle to idle to slow down for a stop. Back Roads Wingrider talks about his DCT being in the shop a lot; I experienced that as well when I first purchased my '18 DCT Goldwing. It was about number 174 off the assembly line. The DCT would often grind its gears on acceleration, and at other times dump (kill) the engine on acceleration. After a week in the shop, the dealer, on my request, gave me a full refund toward another, new, DCT Tour. My second bike was about 1500 units further down the assembly line and has been perfect so far with 2300 miles on the bike. // If you are using the built-in navigation to route you on your trip and you stop to refuel and shut down the bike, the Nav will resume where you left off when you restart the bike. // About the Nav and Apple Car Play; I'm an Apple user and it was a strong feature to me to have Apple Car Play, but trying to use Apple Maps on the Goldwing is maddening if you're using it only to see where you are. Maps will auto zoom until you're crazy. So, I use Honda Nav for a stable look to follow me and Apple Maps only when it's routing me. You can't import routes to Apple Maps and the Honda Nav can only take 8 waypoints and that's including the start and ending points. Only six waypoints in between. // The new front suspension is phenomenal! The front tire moves vertically (instead along the rake line (angled) and the vertical suspension is LINKED to the handlebars. That means, you can watch the two connectors at the top of the suspension on either side of the central keypad go up and down, but the motion is not transferred to the handlebars. The front suspension is phenomenal. Wait. I said that already. // I need to mention one unforeseen feature that I truly like. First, I have to tell you I've never owned or ridden a Goldwing before this new '18 model I just bought. You cannot imagine my joy at realizing that the side mirrors are fixed and I can always see directly in back of me when backing out of a parking space. Especially when a bunch of us riders are parked together and everyone is maneuvering out of their parking spaces at once. I'm really excited about fixed side mirrors! // I disagree with Srkcycles about this new Goldwing making all previous models obsolete. For me, yes, but that's only because I never rode previous Goldwings. The new Goldwing is my first and only Goldwing experience. I've done a lot of reading on Goldwings since buying the new one and I'm seeing the trend that previous Goldwing riders prefer the comfort of the previous models and those new to the Goldwing experience like the new design. I fall into the latter group. I always heard about the great Goldwing ride but previous models were just too damn big for me. The '18 redesign, for me, is the Goldilocks model; it's just right. That first '18 Goldwing I owned that I mentioned above? The one with the transmission problems? It was USED because a guy traded in his '17 Goldwing for the '18 Goldwing but found the new one too small for his liking and traded it back in with 1800 miles on to go back to a '17 Goldwing. I got his used bike. But, then it had the transmission problems and the dealer cancelled my first buy so I could get a new model off the showroom floor and it has been perfect. Finally, it's not perfect, but it's imperfections are mostly electronic and small irritations. The bike itself is the best thing I've ever experienced on two wheels by a large margin. I'm so over-the-top happy with my 2018 (red) Goldwing Tour DCT I can't wait to get on it every day. And, I'm a guy that went through three Harley's and two Indians in the last four years looking for the perfect ride. I love the smooth power of the flat six, the incredible DCT transmission, the weight and balance and the look of the 2018 Goldwing. It's just a joy to ride. I do have some dislikes but nothing about the overall look and feel of the bike. It's genius engineering. The software has some glitches and adding accessories is way overly complicated and very expensive to install when you're paying shop labor. I have to pay shop labor because the disassembly of the bike to install the simplest of accessories is way beyond my confidence level. I do not understand, for example, why Honda didn't include HomeLink buttons. It's a basic need, and a grand touring bike like the Goldwing should have that when you buy it. Anyway, I've gone on long enough. Don Smith ShooterSmith.com.
Correction, I mis-typed the year of the Goldwing that was traded in for the 2018 Goldwing I first bought as used. That's not clear so I'll just repeat the sentence with the error and the correction is surrounded by asterisks: "That first '18 Goldwing I owned that I mentioned above? The one with the transmission problems? It was USED because a guy traded in his ***'17*** Goldwing for the '18 Goldwing but found the new one too small for his liking and traded it back in with 1800 miles on to go back to a '17 Goldwing. I got his used bike."
Excellent review, you said you were going to verbally destroy it. All you did was destroy my want for anything else. I love the way you start your videos. May all the power and Glory go to he who created every moment and molecule. God bless
Yeah man. My roadking is getting new shoes then a for sale sign. Shes a beauty but too much trouble. Between maintenance and noise, I need a break so I'm picking up a GW tomorrow.
Not sure how having a different opinion or being a "naysayer" translates to being jealous. If you don't find the new model as appealing as the last, how is that jealousy? I think this bike is awesome and can't wait to test it out. I've been on several friend's Gold Wings prior to this year's model and really like them. Not for me, but still awesome none the less. One friend has a Russell Day Long seat on his. Wow, combine that with the huge backrest and it makes for one comfortable ride. Even his highway pegs are set just to my liking. I read people complaining about less storage, smaller tank, smaller seat. That's not jealousy, that seems like a legitimate gripe. I don't think those changes would bother me. I think this thing is awesome. Started riding when I was eight. Had 5 straight Hondas and now I've had 3 straight Harleys. This new Wing has me looking at Honda again.
It is the best of the best. I just got one and i am enjoying it. I plan to ride this summer a long distance: Michigan- Oregon. It is a very quite machine.
Love the engine and tranny changes. Test drove the 2018 3000 miles into a 5000 mile trip. Give me all the upgrades but put it in the 1500 physical size. Nowhere near the weather protection and seriously lacking in luggage. You can tell the lead crotch rocket designer headed up this version. The three inches gained forward on the driver pegs huge improvement. But too small and not enough weather protection compared to the 1500.
Guy, great video, but it almost blew my speakers - please invest in a better microphone which doesn't clip whenever you start screaming into it all of a sudden like hell.
I was on the fence about an automatic bike just doesn’t sound like it would feel the same lol but I’m starting to feel like I need a dct GW! I’m in love
I’ve always kind of felt that I love this much tech in my car, but on a bike, I like it simple but comfortable. Maybe just a way to mount and charge my phone for the GPS on a long-hauler, but I think I’d enjoy an older touring bike more.
People like to live in the past. Honda hit a home-run with this bike. Although some aficionados of this bike are still holding onto the road sofa it was and will complain about it not being big enough. If they give this bike a test ride, it will put a smile on your face. It is a beast. If it doesn’t you’re not breathing, means your dead without life. Agree on your take of this bike. Rode both manual 6 speed and 7 speed DCT. Both are exceptional handling and silky smooth. Serious silk. I’ve got a 2015 GL1800 and am waiting for the 2019’s so Honda can work through any GPS issues I’m hearing. Otherwise a phenomenal bike. Naysayers are many and probably are just jealous.
I agree, I used to be a supersport bike type of guy before, but man I'd get this GoldWing DCT if I could afford it without thinking twice. Amazing bike.
I couldn’t disagree more. The Goldwing is a touring bike. From Honda Website “The 2018 Gold Wing is designed to push the limits of what a touring bike can be. And expand the adventure beyond anything imagined.” I see a Goldwing S model yes, but what about the old Valkyrie or true touring model like the GL1800? Honda got an OK, yet very expensive bike, that will be totally redesigned in 2020 for more luggage, locks, better GPS, suspension, and more plush for the touring crowd/legacy customers with retirement money. Honda should have done that initially.
Im sure the handling is amazing, and if i test rode one i know i would be impressed, but i like the huge older goldwings, im not jealous of anyone that has a 1800, i could buy one, i just think a Goldwing was all about that over the top, attention drawing massive cadilac of the motorcycle world, they should have called the new 1800 the Silverwing.
Road Glide Whether its overall "better" isnt the central topic. There have been many many many many "better" bikes than the goldwing. But the gold wing was different. It had unique offerings that no other bike offered. And now it no longer has those offerings. So now those traits are extinct from thr market. They shouldve kept making the real goldwings, and then ALSO make this "goldwing" thing.
Been riding 50 years now, started on a Rupp mini bike in 68, now at 63 still riding, took out a gold wing tour dct, my advice is you have to try it, I personally dont like it. I rather shift, the dct is right on, sport mode is to notch for me , slow speed maneuvers are perfect, I think if you have a injury or chronic pain , the dct has your name on it, it does everything for you and it does it well, I feel I have more control with manual and I have been shifting for to long to adapt. As I say you have to try it out for yourself, you can manually shift the dct but it's not the same to me anyway. Now deciding on base or tour, that's a whole other story, trunk, heated seat, centerstand, larger windshield, electronic suspension adjustment, reverse, why do they do this crap?
You actually do lose control of shifting when it comes to DCTs. In manuals, you can downshift regardless of your speed; however, with DCTs, the computer will not let you down shift if your speed and RPM is relatively high for the gear you're down shifting to. Before you can go into a lower gear, you have to reduce both your speed and RPM and then down shift. I own a DCT motorcycle
I was fortunate enough to ride one of these babies when they first came out... at the time, i was 27 years old and every rep i talked to was interested in what i had to say about it cus apparently i was the youngest person to ride one there and they would love younger riders to be on them. I didnt really want the dct model but thats what i got and it was an absolutely beautiful ride. It was basically riding in a car and it did everything well. Sport mode is a hoot and you dont feel the weight AT ALL, i was able to lean the shit out of it confidently. I get why they are so popular but i dont recommend the foot boards unless you got long legs cus coming to stops and holding the bike up is not gona be fun with those digging into your legs
What an amazing machine. If I could buy all the motorcycles I wanted, this would still be among my top three choices. Great review, I loved how your Words of Wisdom Post-It note blew away on that quick pull to 80 - LOL
These are amazing bikes. Nothing beets it if you will be on it for a long ride day after day. You can ride it extresmly hard and enjoy its crazy performance, or chill and enjoy the view while nearlyb forgetting your on a bike.
Last Sunday went out for a nice ride came back in late afternoon and checked trip meter and we did 265 miles having fun on backroads. It dont beat on ya.
Thank you for a nice review AGAIN. I love watching your clips. I was shopping for a cruising/touring bike and the GW was on my list. I have a great experience with Honda after owning a CBR 1100 XX. Honda really knows how to build bikes....no doubt about it. I really wanted to own a GW at list one time. However, after riding one, it was hard for me to fall in love. Overall, great machine, many toys and gadgets all around it, pretty fast, easy to ride, very very comfy as a commute machine. The bottom line was for me, just a bit boring !!!! More like a car than a bike. I ended up buying a new BMW K1600 GA. I do not regret for a min getting that. Super....super machine. Happy riding to all.
Adam Waheed describes the Goldwing as a Big Scooter, but in a good way. Paniers won't even fit my helmet. Non-adjustable, spongy, soft suspension that bottoms out over bumps and road dips, but can be fixed with even more money. Still needs to be debugged, fit and finish improved before I get one. Should be ready by 2022 if they come up with one of those glassy pastel colors.
Blow your mind away...hurd it twice on this channel. I think it's just blow your mind, but the fact it could blow it away is blown my mind.. . Away lol
A carb has what 2 or 3 jets. The gas hangs above it in a tank and gravity, which is free, propels it thru the carb to the intake valve where it mixed with air, explodes and creates power. Simple right. Not a whole lot that can go wrong. Tricks and treats are nice till they stop working so unless that comes with a life time warranty I'll pass and stay with my fxr. If it stops I can make it go again.
I have over 200,000 miles on wings, never had a fuel injector problem yet. Change the fluids, a battery on occasion, and tires and your good to go. Very few if any other issues and that is pretty common for a wing.
1. Its a touring bike...so comfort is slightly important. 2. Honda Torque Control is not Traction Control, also no cornering ABS 3. Not everyone has an IPhone, so... 4. One USB port on entire bike 5. No locks on glove box with $1k IPhone inside 6. $30k+ for a bike with suspension and tie rod issues and aftermarket requirements (air deflectors, highway pegs, floorboards, windscreen, etc.) 7. GPS is awful...Remember #1 touring bike 8. Less cargo...150 to 110 liters 9. Disrespected loyal GL1800 riders with no modern upgrades to the GL1800, but made a huge change for the younger crowd (whom often doesn’t have $30k+ laying around for a GW) 10. Why not buy a BMW K1600 GTL that is already loaded and a better warranty for less money? Just sayin...
#3 doesn’t bother me, I’m a iPhone guy The BMW GTL1600 comes in at about 37G CAD compared to the 30G CAD for the manual Gold Wing. Not interested in the DCT version so, no ideal what those are going for. All those faults listed were enough to make me wait for another year or two.
it is really about time they updated the goldwing because the goldwing no pun intended is been the gold standard for long distance touring bike and they really haven't changed that much up to now and they haven't needed to so know it's something totally different
You can manually select gears on a DCT. I have a Honda CTX with it and never use the automatic modes. The only difference is that while you are dumping the throttle, pulling a lever, kicking another lever, then rolling the throttle and letting out a lever....I am simply at wide open throttle banging upshifts on a button. That is why most supercars now have DCT's with flappy paddles. I've been riding for more than 30 years, and I don't miss a clutch lever at all. I was hesitant at first too, but damn have I come to really enjoy the DCT in my bike.
It's got to feel odd with no clutch tho right?!! They making motorcycles into what they make their atvs now days I see. Must be nice to ride but I myself would still prefer the manual honestly.
You can manually select gears on the DCT. I have a Honda CTX with a DCT and I never use the automatic modes. What is great about the DCT is full throttle upshifting, which is one reason so many supercars like Ferrari's have a DCT. No need to come off throttle to upshift- wide open throttle and just banging upshifts. My only complaint is that the CTX redlines at only 6400 rpm-- I wish it wrapped out further before I bang that upshift. But I shift my bike all the time- just use a button instead of a lever on a cable. Don't miss a clutch lever at all.
The last automatic bike I had was a Suzuki Bergman 650 executive maxi scooter that’s right I said scooter , it was a Great auto get around town bike fast and nimble but not a great bike for long trips no leg room but I did love the auto and it’s top speed was 110 miles per hour super fast with a power windshield but for $8000. Still a nice bike , and since I have a bad left hand which is hard for me to squeeze a clutch that’s why I road it for 3 years, just couldn’t stand not having leg room, but after watching this I think I’m going go look one over hate not being on a bike anymore, and like I said can not really pull a clutch anymore, this just may be an answer. Thanks for the video, wish you could do one going up and down mountain road so we could hear and see how the bike react to that style as well .
The only problem with this Goldwing is I don't have one

That’s the most resilient sticky note I’ve ever seen. It finally dipped out into the wind at about 14:46 on that acceleration run.
I just test rode this bike today. Didn't understand before, but I totally get it now
My grandpa had 2 of them from the 80’s.
Maybe someday you can track down those bikes.
Its like the rolls royce of motorcycles. But then a million times more reliable
i notice a big issue with the new bikes coming out and with this new goldwing, and it has to do with rider distractions, notice how deeply involved it takes to just learn what button does what, and you can watch text messages and youtube videos on it? what ever happened to the older days when a bike had none of this new techno stuff and you just fired 'er up and rode into the wind, no techno, no gadgets, no figuring out what buttons to push while riding, did we forget the real reason for riding into the wind? just sayin'

Excellent point,and I totally agree.
I have a CTX DCT and I'll never go back to a manual. You gotta ride one to understand. Smooth and accurate.

WOW! Not only a True Patriot but a Dream Wife! My wife and I are getting one this summer, can't wait!
Do it while you can. Live while you’re alive! Happy trails
You should not make promises you have no intention of keeping. 😎
It doesn't make all past Goldwings obsolete though It does seem to be a great machine.

CarPlay doesn’t allow videos or text messages through, because that is common sense. It uses Siri talk to text and it reads the texts.
I always know a great review of a bike when it leaves me wanting one. Great Job!
I'm really thinking of getting a left

I’m sold on the New Gold Wing , best brakes in the business, it’s a Honda 🤷🏼♂️🏍💨💨
Are those gardening gloves?
he always wears those
Sorry I should adjust my earlier comment, sometimes he wears those in videos but I'm not sure if the are gardening gloves or not.
Yup gardening gloves.
Nope; Lee Parks deerskins...serious gloves. He's the guy that came up withTotal Control Training; an amazing rider...look him up.

Wow! Goldwing takes itself to a whole new touring level. Lots of bells and whistles but too many distractions for city driving for me but for touring it may be ok. I just get on my bike and go there's a lot going on when navigating traffic. I need my attention on these streets at all times.

Thank you for posting. Loooong time HD owner but this may be my new ride after watching this.
You wont have to explain buying this bike to your Harley friends. They'll all know why you bought it.

John Keller I agree. Thank you for your input. Riding is mainly about.......well.......riding. :-)

You might want to get your ears checked and don't tell me that you can hear the stereo on your F6b better with that tiny stock windshield.

the biggest complaint I have with the new GW is the reduced trunk space. you can't fit 2 large helmets in it
Goldwing has always been the Cadillac of all bikes and man I'm glad I watch this video brother I'm missing out that thing is super sweet I'm lost for words man👊👊👍👍👍👍👍
No doubt it is a fine bike, but the severe loss of storage is big. Add back in the storage and fix the GPS and it really is a winner.
I say this about different things once a week after watching Sean, but now I want a Goldwing.
People complaining and commenting about the gloves who cares. He was nice enough to take time to go over the bike with us.
No HD going to keep up with this bike. I have always owned HD and still do but I would love to ride this bike. It is quick.
I have previous gen 1800, when I ride with my buddies who have Ultras I can be five bikes back when he cracks the throttle and blow right past the noise lol!.
I usually say too much.... but all I’m gonna say is WOW!! Amazing, I want one.
I sure hope Honda sees that comment, I do like more storage and larger fuel tank.
I think the garden gloves really make the video.
You are right Don it is a great motorcycle and it will get better with time. Ride safe and enjoy.

I'm currently riding a Harley Davidson but I'd have to say the gold wing is king of the hill.
It is the best of the best. I just got one and i am enjoying it. I plan to ride this summer a long distance: Michigan- Oregon. It is a very quite machine.
Man..I don't even own a i-phone.most of that screen tech would be useless to me but I'm looking at buying one.
Fred Sanford That’s why LaMont said you should get an iPhone.
What about Samsung Note Pen 8 or 9. Way more advanced than i crap. Does the bike take androids?
Awesome Scripture's quoting.
I’m in love
Walking reverse and forward function is not electric as state in the video, it's powered by the engine through the transmission.
That’s weird. Literally every reviewer says that it’s electric.
It's electric and powered by the starter not the engine
Yep. Powered by the starter, not the transmission.
Honda already has had two iterations of Silverwings. The first one was a motorcycle and the second one was a 600cc scooter.
Awesome review. Passionate, exciting and informative. Thanks mate.
With the automatic I could ride again. When the 2018's get affordable for my fixed income I want one!!
So if you have an Android phone you are screwed ?
What an amazing machine.
If I could buy all the motorcycles I wanted, this would still be among my top three choices.
Great review, I loved how your Words of Wisdom Post-It note blew away on that quick pull to 80 - LOL
I love this bike. Would really like to own one some day. But it’s too expensive for my taste lol
These are amazing bikes. Nothing beets it if you will be on it for a long ride day after day. You can ride it extresmly hard and enjoy its crazy performance, or chill and enjoy the view while nearlyb forgetting your on a bike.
I'm not a cruiser guy but damn that thing is gorgeous!..
Its not a cruiser its a full dress tourer
Last Sunday went out for a nice ride came back in late afternoon and checked trip meter and we did 265 miles having fun on backroads. It dont beat on ya.
Sean, you think the sod farmer has a great job. I think your job is the one we are all envious of!!!
This is a very nice bike with a goldwing engine. But in my eyes, it's not a Goldwing.
Honda pushed the engine forward about an inch on the 2018s. Doesn't sound like much but the foot peg location looks so much better now.
"I KNOW you guys wanna know how this thing pulls" AND there goes the words of wisdom... 12:43
🤔🤣
Does it still take half a day ($$$$$) to change the rear tyre ??
Raymond it does not. Check out TH-cam video on how to change the rear tire.
@@raymondo162 it takes about 30 minutes to change the rear tire on a Gold Wing. The videos are all over TH-cam.
Still needs running boards and highway pegs.
1. Its a touring bike...so comfort is slightly important.
2. Honda Torque Control is not Traction Control, also no cornering ABS
3. Not everyone has an IPhone, so...
4. One USB port on entire bike
5. No locks on glove box with $1k IPhone inside
6. $30k+ for a bike with suspension and tie rod issues and aftermarket requirements (air deflectors, highway pegs, floorboards, windscreen, etc.)
7. GPS is awful...Remember #1 touring bike
8. Less cargo...150 to 110 liters
9. Disrespected loyal GL1800 riders with no modern upgrades to the GL1800, but made a huge change for the younger crowd (whom often doesn’t have $30k+ laying around for a GW)
10. Why not buy a BMW K1600 GTL that is already loaded and a better warranty for less money?
Just sayin...
Jolly Green Biker don’t forget the saddlebags won’t hold a full size helmet. So I hear.
and the k1600 is faster... and more fun to ride... Thats what I just got. And I was looking at the GW... but the bmw k1600b stole the show.
#3 doesn’t bother me, I’m a iPhone guy
The BMW GTL1600 comes in at about 37G CAD compared to the 30G CAD for the manual Gold Wing. Not interested in the DCT version so, no ideal what those are going for.
All those faults listed were enough to make me wait for another year or two.
Tsukamaki that’s awful, the 2018 GTL with accessories in FL is $27500 US.
Jolly Green Biker I paid 25k for my k1600b premium all said and done. And I got a 6 service maintenance plan for 2k.
A type of bike like this would be great for a beginner rider
12:57 for those who value their time and the point of this video. You're welcome
it is really about time they updated the goldwing because the goldwing no pun intended is been the gold standard for long distance touring bike and they really haven't changed that much up to now and they haven't needed to so know it's something totally different
Thank you for your reviews and also your bible verses I appreciate your love for bikes and for Jesus ! Keep it up..
I'll pass on that. I get the draw but I think I would miss shifting. It helps focus anyways.
@@thesollylama130 All the more reason I would by an older model of any car, so I can shift. It is part of the whole experience to me.
"I'm gonna destroy this bike verbally!" LOL! Where is that video?
I was waiting for the same thing... Still waiting...
FYI the dash glass is know to get moister behind it because of faulty seals !!
It's got to feel odd with no clutch tho right?!! They making motorcycles into what they make their atvs now days I see. Must be nice to ride but I myself would still prefer the manual honestly.
I hope to God they don't start making more bikes automatic...
I've got a 1980s goldwing and I'll stick with it!
stator burn up yet?
To old, to small
It's not a bike it's a car with two wheels.
Great bike for a beginner rider
But.......l like shifting......lol. Nice bike though. Just a little too much for my taste right now. Maybe when I retire and can travel the country.
