That is my exact bike. I put the tall & wide windshield and an Ultimate seat on it since I’m 6’4” and 300lbs. I put only synthetic oil and change it every year. Mine is a 2021 and I only have 3900 miles on it. Only do short local rides and keep it in my garage. I have my detail guy wash & wax it every 6 months. I’ve owned every bike from Harleys to Indians, and Kawasaki’s to Suzuki’s. I’m 64 years old and this will be my last bike. Love the DCT. I also own an African Twin DCT for my adventure rides. Been riding motorcycles since I was 13.

Honda sez only mineral oil (GN4) in that transmission. At least the couple of dealers that I've asked.

Great video and tutorial. I have been riding for 40 years on the streets and owned every brand of bike and a year ago I purchased my first gl1800 with only 7k miles on it and absolutely loved riding it. I kept thinking how amazing the new ones must be because the 07 was such a great bike for the year. I did 3 amazing trips on it and then my brother recently bought the the wing like yours. Even though I never rode his (he has offered it numerous times) I started liking it more and more and learning more about it so I went ahead and sold mine and bought the same dct wing. I was so confident I would love the bike that I still never rode my brother's before buying one. The first dct I rode was my new one and I couldn't be happier! These wings make you want to get on them and just take off and keep going. Enjoy the ride and be safe out there.

Good video. I am a big H-D fan, currently riding a '21 Trike Ultra, but I have to give credit where it is due. I have owned one years ago and it was amazing...outstanding handling, solid around town, and on the highway...simply wow. If I was buying a two-wheel today, I would seriously consider the Wing and that version is really nice.

The pre-2018 Goldwings used the starter motor to go in reverse. The DCT uses another set of gears in the transmission for reverse. There are two clutches (hence the name DCT, dual clutch transmission). 1st clutch handles 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th gear. The second clutch handles 2nd, 4th, 6th, and reverse gear.

Well done review. You got me sold!
While I do agree that Honda has done a stellar job of streamlining the F-6 engine into the overall style of this latest generation GL, there was a time when they went out of the way to showcase the Flat-Six. Back in the eighties when I worked for a stand-alone Honda dealership, along with the full fairing Interstate & Aspencade editions, Honda would offer a standard or naked version through 1984. With every trim level the engine was notably visible. Regardless of motor configuration, the overall size & dimensions were more or less in keeping with the competition. All that changed when the revolutionary 1988 Gold Wing 1500/6 debuted. It was, bigger, and heavier, with acres & acres of plastic. From the bow to stern every component was molded and integrated (uni-body) as one. Even the twin front brake rotors were shrouded w/chrome covers. The only visible part of the motortrain was the valve covers. And for this Honda had an optional accessory piece; a plastic cover that fit onto the engine guard! It was said that the Gold Wing was a two-wheeled car.
Of course Honda is a major automobile manufacturer and kudos to them for integrating auto design into motorcycle design. The style trend with autos during the late eighties, into the nineties downplayed any sight of mechanical components including eliminating the front (Lexus & Infiniti) grill. But then when sales of the Gold Wing began to wane, Honda, with all it's engineering prowess would get back to the essentials and build it's own heritage model; the 1997 Valkyrie. By hot-rodding that jewel of a flat-six motor and eliminating just about every other Gold Wing contrivance Honda built a showroom floor halo model. With it's "classic American" styling, the Valkyrie was much more then a standard Gold Wing. It was its own model which complimented Honda's flagship Gold Wing. Now with both GLs, Honda was able to offer riders who wanted to ride across America in comfort or be comfortable with American style! Honda would ultimately showcase its mighty Flat-Six with form AND function with the 2004 Valkyrie Rune.
Thanks again for your video and for letting me comment.~

Coming from many sport tourers, I don t feel like I am riding a big old man touring bike but more like the best damn sport tourer I have ever had. An the manual transmission is sooo smooth and easy, I like the sportiness of manual and the feel of controlling my bike myself with the friction zone. I have the 2021 Tour DCT in black. I didn’t put the rack but I did buy a bag that fits on the passenger seat and is curved for a perfect fit. I have the highway pegs from Aero and I like them. CarPlay is a great feature but I wish it didn’t require the helmet comm connection. I lose CarPlay on longer ride days when the battery runs out on my helmet. I would also like a little more fuel capacity as the range is just over 200-225 miles depending on how i ride it.

I test drove the BMW 1600 grand america and it had a lot of plastic that rattled over bumps. Rode the "22 Goldwing DCT and it gave me hip pain because of the foot position and the adjustable windshield rattled and the saddle bags are made for luggage but not putting stuff in without it falling out when opening them. Rode the Yamaha Star Venture and it was the most comfortable but slow and under powered and a ton of plastic everywhere. Rode the Indian Roadmaster and windshield and dash rattled and it had a lot of handlebar vibration. Rode the Harley Ultra limited and the fit and finish is flawless and was better than any of the other bikes for comfort and torque. Bought the Harley and decided to have the engine blueprinted and added a 7 speed baker transmission and now I have a 100,000 mile motor and the most comfortable bike I have ever ridden. If the Goldwing had a more comfortable foot position, usable saddlebags and better fit and finish I might have considered it. Everyone is different and what is best for one is NOT best for another. So in my opinion the Ultra Limited is the best for comfort and fit and finish.

I had to give up my Victory XC after 10years and 78k miles. I was not expecting to do this or to get another bike this year and never would I imagine it would be a Goldwing.... 😐 Funny how things happen in life, a few weeks ago I picked up a 2018 GW Tour with a mere 10k miles on it. Last night I just got back from a 1600 mile ride around NY and NE with the bike. My wife was with me for about half of it and I was solo on the rest. All I can is I'm blown away with this machine, the Goldwing is like no other bike I've ever ridden. My wife also can't believe how good the passenger accommodations are. She loves the comfort, lack of gowning exhaust, smoothness and the full heated seat(of course.... )

I went with the BMW K1600B. It does NOT have the GW reliability or dealer network! But here is a list of the stuff that made me chose it over the wing. Better handling. Better HP. It’s a MONSTER in the twisties! Better seat. Less buttons cluttering tank. (Sorry my opinion is the GW controls and dash are dorky) Better looks. Better sound. Floorboards. The rest of the stuff between GW and K 1600 are the same. Rent both and find out for yourself.

There is no doubt that the GW has been a touring standard for a couple of generations. I do not own one, but if I ever have to make a change from my Victory, this will be a top contender. At 68 years young a DCT would definitely be nice, especially around town, and hill hold and a reverse is also very appealing. I don’t think I’ll change your mind but I bought a brand new Goldwing in 2019. It was ultimately lemoned out by Honda. The reason being is the oil pressure light kept coming on and after many trips to the dealership they couldn’t fix it. It had other issues as well, things like the hill start assist light would come on, things like the filler flap wouldn’t open, the rubber on the pegs was worn out before my first oil change. Then the day to day things that were frustrating, I had the touring model with the top case and my helmet wouldn’t fit in any of the cases. The cases were so small that basically my jacket, gloves and riding pants took up both side cases and if my helmet fit in the top case basically all of my luggage would be full. There was basically no luggage space. On top of that the fuel tank was tiny so you had to stop quite frequently on longer rides. Then being someone that came from a BMW touring bike the fixed cases were especially irritating, when you got to your destination if you could fit your stuff in the little hand bag inserts you could take that with you but the little hand bags barely held my toiletries much less stuff for touring. So after they got their bike back I went and got me another BMW and it’s been fantastic, in the first year I had my goldwing I didn’t put very many miles on it because it was broken a bulk of the time. My first year with my BMW I’ve put almost 15,000 miles on it. The side cases are HUGE, I can fit all my gear and helmet in one case and still have the other two cases free, I can fit a whole case of water in one of the side cases and I can remove the whole case at my destination. It has a 7.9 gallon fuel tank so I can go almost 300 miles between fill ups so if I get to an area where it says “next fuel 60 miles” and I don’t want to stop at a shady gas station, I can keep going. Also 15,000 miles and no oil pressure light. Also another negative with the Honda is their customer service. I even went as far as the BBB complaint to Honda corporate asking them to replace the bike before I got an attorney involved hoping they would own up to the defective bike and is all they did was tell me to keep taking it in for repair. When do they start treating their customers right? Each repair attempt was under warranty, each repair attempt I had to ride in, and get a taxi/uber home none of which was reimbursed and no loan bikes were ever offered. Usually at BMW dealers from my past experience if you are having a larger service done they’ll give you a demo bike off the showroom floor just to get you back home while your bike is in for repair. I paid a premium for the Goldwing, it was a childhood dream to buy a brand new Goldwing someday and it was a disaster. Up to that point I had only used bikes a couple ancient goldwings a 1975 and a 1980 but the others were mostly used BMW’s and I was still given loan bikes on those old out of warranty BMW’s for larger repairs. The Goldwing was my first brand new bike and it completely soured me to Honda in general. I even did a video about the poor experience I had. Also the suspension was terrible on rough roads, the front end would hit the bump stop in the suspension so many times it was very jarring. You gotta give me credit that my dislike is from actually owning one, some people have dislikes and never even tried one. I think I would have somewhat different feelings if Honda didn’t fight me and just exchanged the bike. I would have figured out how to live with the shortcomings but they got their bike back and lost a customer. As for a positive, I liked the wind protection, and I liked the smooth engine on the Goldwing. Other than that I could never recommend it. I don’t even really like Harleys but I’d give Harley a try before I ever considered another Goldwing.

So….. as a biker who is not loyal to a brand I ride cross country a lot. I rode a triumph but knew I needed to go with a larger touring bike. The two I studied for almost two years were the Goldwing and the Pursuit. Like a lot of things, personal preference comes into play. So without being swayed either way I got the pursuit. To me it’s a better bike hands down. The Goldwing is nice especially the auto and reverse assist. But after all the testing and looking the Indian pursuit for me was way better. More customizable. More comfortable from the start without buying things like a new seat. Again the Goldwing is a nice bike with a cheaper price. But it also felt cheaper when I was on it. Just my opinion.

I am a Harley Davidson rider for the past 19 years. But I will say Honda built these bike for the highway and ease of maintenance. All you really have to do is change the oil and brake pads . One hole in and one hole out for oil changes, it’s fully counterbalanced and fully liquid cooled as well.
Goldwing riders have their crews and Harley Davidson riders have their crews, but I will say Honda did their homework on those Goldwings no doubt.

"Rabble, rabble, rabble DCT, rabble, rabble". I freely admit that I am one of those people. However, to be fair, my first complaint about my last car was that it too had an automatic transmission. To quote Rupert Giles from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, complaining about his car in the show, "I just want to feel like I'm involved".
However, my current bike is an 86 GL 1200. My second street legal street bike was a 77 GL 1000, and I put around 300K miles on her in a bit over 5 years. I don't want to talk about tires, but I replaced 2 seats, wore 'em out, and didn't, and really don't have a clue about just redoing them.
If I had the money, and wanted a brand new bike, I wouldn't look at anything else, because the Goldwing is my bike of choice. When I have my current bike out and about, and am sitting where I can see her, she's all I see.

stopped about a third way through when you confirmed my beliefs on there is no better handling touring motorcycle! I watch other people's review like on a Harley Street Glide, and they swear that they can maneuver that bike at slow speeds better than the Goldwing! It cracks me up LOL! I have a 2016 F6B which does the model right before the one-year riding, it is superb in handling two, I have not ridden the Goldwing that you have but I have ridden the full dress 2018 with the top case and they really did some adjustments on that center-of-gravity because I noticed that I could throw that bike around with the top case as well as I can my F6B 2016. The one thing I didn't like about the 2018 was the wind protection did not seem as good as mine, I have a madstad windshield on and absolutely love it, also I did not like the radio, could not hear it at highway speeds very well at all. Now they may have fixed those couple of things, I'm not sure I haven't rode one since 2018, I'll keep watch it now, yes Goldwing absolutely the best Touring bike

Just an FYI. The 2024 Goldwing does not use an electric reverse motor or the starter motor for reverse. Still a great video. New sub here too.For the reverse gear there is a small "reverse idler gear" between the countershaft gear and the output shaft gear. This causes the reverse gear to turn the opposite way from the other gears on the output shaft. The output shaft is a splined shaft that is more or less (via the differential) connected to the wheels
