Wagner's Chainsaws will modify holzfforma saws if you're looking for a super high performance package without breaking the bank. I have 2 and they're effing unbelievable. A G111 that's insane and a G466 that I'd put up against the 660. That said I want a hot rod G888, 😂
The g660 is still a little rich...you have a faster chain speed happening in the 500... if the g660 was turned up to 13,500 they would probably be right on the same number’s.... that’s a $350 dollar saw and a ?1300 dollar saw? The gas tank on the 500 has lots more fuel left... I think that’s what people are missing... it’s using less fuel to make that amount of power... you should do a total number of cuts per 32oz of fuel type video... no one has actually shown us that either...?
I’ll go a step further, no one has actually shown a head to head between these to saws either. I searched everywhere! I was like “who has a 500i and a G660?” Killinger!
Believe it or not, the 500i will use more full or run out first. From what I have seen. The 660 is 27.9 fl. oz and the 500i is 26.05 fl. oz Still it would be fun just to show people and I could be wrong.
I will like to see how the G660 holds up years down the road. I have a 038 Stihl that I purchased new in 1981. I have wore out at least a dozen bars and countless chains.the saw still runs great. Other than spark plugs and a few new sprockets I have not done any motor work. Always ran premium gas and only used Stihl oil. I plan on passing this saw down to my sons. I do however think the G660 would be a good purchase for someone who needs a bigger saw but doesnt have the extra funds to purchase a more expensive saw. Good video.
That's the big question that only time will tell. I think in my application, the saw will last a long time. I dont need it every day. It's a great saw for the money. Even if you had to rebuild it, it would still come in cheaper than a real stihl. I plan on running it more in my rotation. I really wish I would have kept track of hours or fuel tanks full. The good part is most of the rub time I have had it, has been on film. Thanks!
The MS500i is also $1000 more. There's no doubt it's the nicer saw, but it should be. It does sound like your 660 needs to be tuned. That said, for $297 shipped to my door, for my uses I'll go with the 660. If I were a lumberjack I'd buy that 500i all day every day. EDIT: Disregard what I said about the tune. I see in your other video you fixed that!
Once I tuned it, it was much more inline with the 500i. I agree with everything you said. If I'm cutting all day, I'm grabbing that 500i. Its lighter and smoother. For the money, that 660 cant be beat.
Would like to see the dogs get used and rpms tuned on the 660. Think results may be a bit closer with a little pressure applied. Awesome video and love that tractor grapple combo!👍

That was great! Let’s be honest, it’s going to be awhile before the 500i get knocked out of the top spot. They will go down as a legend. To be fair, the G660 is a beast of a saw for $400👍🏻 Thanks for the video Chris!
Thanks for the vid suggestion Doug. Stock from the factory the 500 is doin super so far. It will be interesting to see how they hold up after years of production work. It all depends on the trees and circumstances what saw is best. I think of it was tested against the 660 or a 394/5 in 30+" wood the bigger saws would reign.
@@307j.o.a.t9 I have run a 500i and it’s a nice saw but in big wood does not compare to the 395. He considered it excellent at $420 vs $1600 for a Stihl 661 BUT hen it came to repairing the internals the parts did not interchange perfectly and sadly he did not have any idea about sourcing the parts. For starters, try idling the g660 up where it's supposed to be. Then put the same bar and chain on both. And then the stih wouldn't have a chance. Make it fair.
Please see next video. Also, bars were same length, chains were both new. I feel that's pretty fair. However, I did turn it up and it was a much different turn out. Thanks
Wow that was an interesting and surprising result. That fuel injected saw screams but it’s only about a grand more! Thanks for sharing this big saw racing.
Now if the 500i was available to purchase... Since they came out my large dealer has gotten two in - one he kept for himself, the other he sold to a friend in the tree removal business. Everytime I go in the place he looks up from the counter and just tells me, "Nope."
I think a real 066 would do a little better than the G660 but I'm not supersized after I seen the inside of a 500!. This 500! is really tight from the factory. timing, ports, etc. That was a fun video Chris. TY :-)
@@KillingerUSA Yes Sir, It will not be much but the 066 will have better carburetor and it will be a little tighter. I like that 6 class of stihl because of the 064. It came out in 1986 at 85 cc. Their was nothing even close to the weight to power at that time. the 2100 CD was 24.5 lbs. Give Husky a year or two. They will have something as good or a little better than then the 500i :-) ... It's like this. 075 then 2100 CD, then 064, (the 288xp 2 years later, but not more power next 066) Then 394 XP but not buy much over the 066 and now 500i for saws that can all push 28" to 36" bars bars like a Boss. Lol :D Note: this is power to weight and in order of the years they came out. ( in my life time.) This would be the saws as a logger you would want to use 6 to 7 days a week at the time. This would be a one saw to rule them all type of thing. Sorry about the long post but some people might like the history.
Nice straight up comparison! You did a great job. The 500 revs higher so as long as the chain speed is maintained it makes sense. Both are great saws!! Thanks for sharing.
@@KillingerUSA yes they are. I just got a 372 parts kit. I have nwp crank and cylinder hyway popup 52mm and good bearings and seals im gonna put together. Then i need to get my buddy w a 500i to come do a vid. Prolly in June.
If a cheap tool pays for itself on first use, buy the cheap tool. After I got a quote for $500 to take down two trees, I purchased a saw for $130 and took them down myself. That was 20 years ago. That $130 saw has since paid for itself ten times over. But that saw finally gave out last week. I ordered a 52 cc Chinese knockoff for $116 to replace my old saw. I have a tree near the cabin that needs to come down. If the new saw cuts it down, it has more than paid for itself on first use. I do not need a $1000 chainsaw for occasional use around my cabin. I also have a Chinese knock-off generator that is 2O years old. We have snow on the ground this morning. I got out yesterday. Poured fuel in the tank and pulled the starter rope. That twenty-year old generator started on the sixth pull. It took that many pulls to get gas through the system. That generator will now start on the first pull, if I lose power today or tonight. Are Chinese knock-offs as good as professional grade tools? No, they are not. But they are often the better choice for the occasional user.
Excellent video & site. Thank you! My 262xp may be able to retire now after 33 years. And it’s replacement will cost $125. less than $630. I paid for in 1989.
Hi Chris!!😀😀 I had a feeling that the 500 would beat the 660 . The 660 is 2 generations older than the 500 and with the 500 being fuel Injected its always tuned perfectly. The 660 is still rubber mounts versus the spring mounts on the 500. That's why the 500 is a smoother cutting saw. I love my 660's but would love to have a 500. I just can't justify buying one with the difference in price. Thanks for doing the comparison for us!!😀😀👍👍 Take care my friend!!😀😀❤
Not sure why you would expect a $300 saw would last 10 years? Your looking at it the wrong way. $1500 saw better last 10 years. $300 saw I'd be happy with 2. Just stick with what you are doing. Better than being disappointed.
Your test is not scientific. In order to be a fair comparison, you should have used the same bar and chain on both saws. The Stihl obviously had a much sharper chain. You admitted your bias so I’m suspicious that you were unaware of this observation. True, the Holtz former saw is Chinese but i’m sure much of your Stihl is made in China also.
As I said and showed in the video, both choqns were brand new out of the box. How is that not fair? Also, I did a follow up video right after this one. I tuned the carb on the china saw and it was right in line with the 500i. For the record, I'm very fond of these after market saws. They are a great val6.
Thanks Samuel. I was trying to keep it short and to the point but still make it interesting and put my signature on it. Overall, I'm happy with the finished product and your comment means I was on the right track!
That was a great video and a comparison that I had wondered myself, but couldn't since I'm not in a position to fork out the extra money for a 500i. They seem like nice saws, but not worth the money at this point to me. I will say that my G660 revs considerably higher than what you have yours tuned to. I'm sure if tuned up a bit it would've been a bit closer. Nice video and thanks for sharing! Subbed for more.
One more thing the guy had a tree service and used that $420 machine day after day for 9 months before it needed $20 in parts and $40 shop time except there ere no exact parts bc the stihl parts ordered had to be modified to get it running and back on the job.
Everyone just let's the weight of the saw do the work. I wanna see someone bury the spike in it and work it. Load that thing down and see what it does. Like someone said max speed right now is winning. I wanna see some torque put to use.
So how do you make a fair cut between saws? I mean, how do I measure the pressure I'm applying? At the end of the day, both saws are very capable. One cost $1500 and the other $300. It really comes down to how much money do you want to spend.
@@KillingerUSA I get it there would be more fluctuation. Maybe do a larger sample size. Maybe average 10 cuts instead of 3. I wasn't saying I see a problem with your test I just would like to see them both really loaded down to get a better feel of a power comparison.
@@KillingerUSA I can't grab a saw and compare it to another one in 5 minutes. I gotta run a few tanks then go back to the other one. That's when I can start to really see the difference. Again. Not bashing you at all I just wanna see em hammer down!
@@black_sheep_fab9411 I get it. I knew what your were saying. Its difficult to "fairly" do this type of video because no matter what you do, there will always be variables. I think a video or each saw just working would be a better test.

I think they sell it on the website?
For starters, try idling the g660 up where it's supposed to be. Then put the same bar and chain on both. And then the stih wouldn't have a chance. Make it fair.
Please see next video. Also, bars were same length, chains were both new. I feel that's pretty fair. However, I did turn it up and it was a much different turn out. Thanks
@@KillingerUSA What was the time after you reset it? Don't get me wrong, I have always used stihl chainsaws, just never liked the overly high prices.
@@livingthedreamwiththelucas90 cant remember but the video is short.
@@KillingerUSA just watched it and I subscribed to your channel. Thanks for the good content. I'll be a regular watcher to your videos.
@@livingthedreamwiththelucas90 appreciate it!
Wow that was an interesting and surprising result. That fuel injected saw screams but it’s only about a grand more! Thanks for sharing this big saw racing.
Haha!
I have never ran either of those saws but I would have put my money on the 500i for sure. Thanks for sharing Chris
Thanks Mike!
Was the farmertec tuned ? Mine sounds like it revs higher
No. But I did tune it later and made a follow up video
Now if the 500i was available to purchase...
Since they came out my large dealer has gotten two in - one he kept for himself, the other he sold to a friend in the tree removal business. Everytime I go in the place he looks up from the counter and just tells me, "Nope."
Yeah, I was on a waiting list at 3 different dealers. First one that called got my money. Its crazy!
I think a real 066 would do a little better than the G660 but I'm not supersized after I seen the inside of a 500!. This 500! is really tight from the factory. timing, ports, etc.
That was a fun video Chris. TY :-)
Thanks Ironwood ! I have wondered if there is a difference between the real 660 and fake.
@@KillingerUSA yes there is my 066 is wore out an would scream thru that size ash.
Lol :D
Note: this is power to weight and in order of the years they came out. ( in my life time.)
This would be the saws as a logger you would want to use 6 to 7 days a week at the time.
This would be a one saw to rule them all type of thing.
Sorry about the long post but some people might like the history.
@@ironwoodworkman4917 I appreciate it!
@@ironwoodworkman4917 also I would add. If I was a logger, the 500i would be the saw for me!
what does "official" mean in your title?
Nothing. It's a trick to get clicks.
I think that 660 needs leaned out some. Doesn't seem to be running full power to me
Your correct. I leaned it out and shot another video
The seconds were good, no post the numbers with the $ in front 😆
Nice straight up comparison! You did a great job. The 500 revs higher so as long as the chain speed is maintained it makes sense. Both are great saws!! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks JOAT! Both saws are great saws!
Very good points!
Excellent video & site. Thank you! My 262xp may be able to retire now after 33 years. And it’s replacement will cost $125. less than $630. I paid for in 1989.
Thank you! Glad it helped!
I thought his first cut was going to be his last. He almost fell over dropping that bar like that.
Caught me off guard. 🤷♂️
@@KillingerUSA New chain bites pretty good. Great vid.
@@brikkijim they sure do
Lack of real experience
Is Farmertech and Holtzfarma the same brand or different saws
Different companies.
@@KillingerUSA which makes the Stihl replica, Holtzforma? Other make Husky replica?
Great run. Good call Doug .!!!!! Thanks k man.
Thanks Billy!
Hi Chris!!😀😀
I had a feeling that the 500 would beat the 660 .
Thanks for doing the comparison for us!!😀😀👍👍
Take care my friend!!😀😀❤
Take care Al!
Do you have interest in promoting Farmertec products via shooting videos on social media?
Yes. Please contact me. ckillinger2@yahoo.com
Do you have a bark box on the 500i
I do now. I can't remember if I did in this video or not?
daymn if you compare the prices this G660 is actually insane
It's even better in the next video
You need to tune that 660. Sounds pukin rich.
I did. It was the very next video. Haha.
Oh yeah that chainsaw right there that blue one it competes
It's a pretty nice saw
Isn't the stihl a fuel injection
It is
I love all of my stihl products. How smooth is one of those fuel injection models? Thanks for the reply sir!
@@jameswright5982 as I mentioned in the video, its very smooth
@@KillingerUSA thank you sir.
500i has a bark box + whatever else you have added to it. Can't beat the 660 if you're on a budget.
660 is a fantastic saw
That doesn’t surprise me since the 500i would rev higher and probably higher torque I imagine
The only test that really matters is how the same two saws compare after about 10 years of cutting. I know which one my money would be on.
Not sure why you would expect a $300 saw would last 10 years? Your looking at it the wrong way. $1500 saw better last 10 years. $300 saw I'd be happy with 2. Just stick with what you are doing. Better than being disappointed.
@@KillingerUSA Actually what I've done is bought a used Stihl and rebuilt it. I think it is now better than a Chi-com saw for about the same price.
@@beestoe993 that's great!
What song is this?!
Epidemicsound.com
Gimme the 660 any day. I just traded my 660 back to Kevin Smith a couple days ago
The difference between the two is about 800$ minus bar and chain, stihl is much better, but it cost's more!
Aggre
That ash is nice and dark it would make beautiful lumber
Sure would
Cool video! Great idea @indianadoug! Thanks guys 😊
Thanks James!
Ok, but why does Stihl give a better cut when you're using same type of chains in both saws?
No idea
@@KillingerUSA Perhaps a stronger motor, spinning faster?
@@uncletom1971 I'm sure
Great video Killinger
I like how condensed and to the point it was! Also very cool comparison.
Thanks, to you and Indiana Doug
Thanks Samuel. I was trying to keep it short and to the point but still make it interesting and put my signature on it. Overall, I'm happy with the finished product and your comment means I was on the right track!
Cool video :) unless you dog in with the 660 you won’t get the use of the torque it has on hand. Either way, I enjoyed it! 😊
After watching 3 knock off versions, I'm glad I finally found the official video 🤣

Get that 660 to Bellhopper lol, it needs a pipe and carb opened up for Methanol....😜👊🏼🤣🔥👍🏻🧡
He is a busy man. Hard to get anything ain't over there
That was a great video and a comparison that I had wondered myself, but couldn't since I'm not in a position to fork out the extra money for a 500i. They seem like nice saws, but not worth the money at this point to me. I will say that my G660 revs considerably higher than what you have yours tuned to. I'm sure if tuned up a bit it would've been a bit closer. Nice video and thanks for sharing! Subbed for more.
I actually did tune the carb and posted an updated video right after this one. It performed much better!
@@KillingerUSA I saw it, great job!
I personally wouldn't go over 13,000rpm and you want to "gargle" or 4 stroke after tuning. I keep all my gear around 12,750 so as not to blow it up
One more thing the guy had a tree service and used that $420 machine day after day for 9 months before it needed $20 in parts and $40 shop time except there ere no exact parts bc the stihl parts ordered had to be modified to get it running and back on the job.
The g660 would’ve done better if it wasn’t running so rich. Another 1000rpm in the cut would make things dead even I think
Funny you should mention that.

The 500i has a lot more chain speed try tuning the ms 660
I did, and posted a video about it. Much better outcome
I can hear the difference in the tune. I don't believe the holtzfforma has a unlimited coil, muffler mod ect.
I did a follow up video right after this one and tuned the 660. Much better results
@@KillingerUSA oh cool!
That China saw ain’t gonna beat a German made stihl . No comparison ! However a Stihl ms 660 mag with west coast mods will eat that 500i for lunch
Yep
Stihl 500i is on my next to get. I have the g888 the cs 7310p and the cs590. I really like the cs 7310p that things nasty.

You need to tune that 660 and change up the muffler.
I did. Then made another video. You need to check that out.
its funny being that they also make stihl in china now days, i think the quality control wont be as strict as in Austria or Germany or the USA but i think they are there, ironic that most little stihls are mainly ABS plastic, like the 170's to 190's, the engine case is ABS as is the rest of the covers, i think every thing is disposable now days, 2020 /2021, the age of disposability hehehehe, sad I think
It definitely seems that way these days
