So that is why everyone says that you need to let your shoulder shrugs or touched the ears when you go down from a pull up right? The scapula should follow the hand, very very informative. Also I liked the part where you said we should train our muscles on the back of the shoulder in order to see any further results

Dr Thank you so much for this video! I think i now know what I have been doing wrong in regards to my shoulder! Your videos have been the best that I have found! I hope to watch all of them as I am 64 and much is starting to go wrong with my physical body from neglect and misuse evidently, even though I am probably in much better shape than most people my age. I recommend you to friends. Thank you and may the Lord Bless you and your family and practice!

Thanks Dr D. That info is so helpful. A rheumatologist told me to stop reaching up to cupboards etc (due to arthritis, my collar bones get very sore too) and to get a stool to stand on instead - which made no sense to me ! What you said makes far more sense ! I'm going to start practicing moving correctly in the hope of healing my shoulders. Please do more shoulder videos. Thanks again.

Great to hear that you're inspired to move better Miriam! MDs are doing the best they can with what they know, but they really don't understand movement and how to make it work best. Hopefully you can get improvement in your shoulders!!!

Thanks. Big help. I was hurting my rotator for the exact mistake of not moving with the shoulder blade. Great info once again

I really like your videos ! Have you ever gotten involved with trigger point methodology that was pioneered by Dr Janet Travell about 50 years ago ? She was amazing ! When J F K was in Congress and the White House, he had chronic back pain and she was his personal physician….

Thanks for all the info. I have been told I need a shoulder replacement. This is due to bone on bone and arthritis and bone spurs. I did have rotator cuff surgery 17 years ago. How do I know that is the answer. I have a hard time reaching for things and once I get something from above it is hard to bring it down. So how do I know i need this

Hey Sue! Sorry to hear that you've been told you need a shoulder replacement :-(
If you're unable to get the shoulder pain to calm down with exercises, and your mobility doesn't improve, then a shoulder replacement might be what you need. You should try the approach from this video. Even though it's for a rotator cuff tear, the same principles apply to your situation. If you don't improve by about 10-20% within 1-2 months, then a shoulder replacement might be right for you. If you do improve, then keep going and see if the amount of improvement you get is satisfactory for you.

@@epmanualphysicaltherapy Thank you for your reply. I have watched the video and will start applying your recommendations in my shoulder presses.
My next question is: What is your take on keeping the elbows soft in your press? The trainer I follow suggests soft elbows,no jerky movements and no locking out at the top. I am using dumbbells and not a barbell to do the shoulder presses.

that's why the bench press is so problematic for the shoulders because the weight is constantly pressing your scapula into the bench making it very difficult for it to move freely in the way you demonstrate. push-ups are a much healthier exercise for the shoulders because they allow your scapula to move naturally without obstruction.
