Linda Ronstadt - When Will I Be Loved

- Linda turns a classic Phil Everly song into a country-rock classic and makes it into a bigger hit than the original rising as high as No. 2 on the Billboard pop single charts. It was recorded in 1974 as part of her now classic "Heart Like A Wheel" album, produced by Peter Asher.

That’s Linda Ronstadt, grabs the microphone, belts it out and suddenly your world changes,,no fancy things, its pure good music,,nobody like her.
You said it. Pure raw talent
She grabs it by the throat and owns it!
Totally
One of the greatest 70s (and beyond) singers ever!!!!
Yep. Taylor Swift takes a back seat to this woman.
Linda did not need a flashy light show, backup dancers and singers, fancy costumes, and a big band. She just walked out on the stage and sang and that was all we needed. Nobody else will ever come close to her talent.
To be fair, The Eagles were her backing band before they went off and became the Eagles. She didn't hold them back either, she encouraged it. Without Linda Ronstadt, no Eagles.
You got that right. Linda was the best.
I don't think she gets enough credit among the women singers of the 70's. Man, what a voice
She doesn’t, growing up with my sisters listening to her, I didn’t really appreciate her until the ‘80s and for forty plus years I’ve questioned why. Probably because as a young teen I fell for Karen Carpenter, who is still my favorite singer, but I really wish I saw Linda for who she was sooner. Her music has been a god send for me lately.
@@jlholmes8 One thing I started noticing with Karen's recordings is that there was a lot of overdubbing used to thicken her voice. Linda didn't need post help. She had a very naturally dynamic vocal range. That's a rare gift.
Totally agree
She blew away most singers whether male or female , her voice was that of an angel
She had the most versatile voice of her era ... and I had such a crush on her. lol
I'm having a Linda Ronstadt Marathon" June 23rd 2024. Anybody else feeling me
If we could only go back…
Linda says in hot up here. We're done...But then belts this out like she was just starting. No auto tune. No flashy lights. Pure music at it's best. Legendary Linda....
A beautiful voice...with eyes that matched.
Production was very minimalistic back then. First major tour moving lights were used on was Genesis' Abacab tour. Even Led Zeppelin's production around that time was very minimal. Ground stacked PA, par cans on tree stands, no wedge monitors - only sidefills. I think only Genesis, Queen, and Kiss had really over the top production on their tours back then. But yes, no over the top bombastic effects and theatrical dot dot dot - just her voice and presence, those players and those songs.
Also, no back up dancers, no hyper frenetic dancing herself, no auto tune, no lyp syching. As others have said, just steps up and belts it out. A voice with nuance and formidable power. And no what another admirer quipped: "No circus behind her."
She’s so talented
Hi James, How’re you doing today
@@helenmarret5776 Hey there, just saw this. I'm fine and you?
Where are you from?
@@helenmarret5776 Born in Italy, currently in VA Beach-
Linda had some of the greatest Live pipes in the world. Whether she rocked or she rolled - great bands, glorious voice. Sigh...
She just stepped up to that microphone and belted that out in perfect pitch like it was nothing. I wonder if we'll ever see another like her.
Celine Dion and Kelly Clarkson are the only other vocalists that I think have that level of vocal competence, control, consistency and pitch confidence to sing like Linda. True there is a versatility that Linda had that was rare, matched only by the two I mentioned because you need so much of that to be that consistent and great every time you approach a mic to sing . Linda is a living music legend. She was beyond words to describe her special talent.
It's called heart.

NO
They couldn't touch Linda
I just hopped on this video because I had a craving to listen to the one and only Linda Ronstadt from back in the day. Brings back great memories.
One of the greatest voices in musical history
yes I believe her and Martina Mcbride are the best voices to ever do it hands down
Well said
Who is she?
TH-cam there name's listen to them
I agree. I'm a former DJ in Canada and when I played her songs, the dance floor was packed.
I’ve adored Linda Ronstadt from the first time I ever heard her
can you imagine walking into a random Honky Tonk bar in the 70s and the house band is backing up her for the night?
She just delivers. No strain, no BS, no fog of a fireworks display. Grab the microphone and sing your heart out. No wonder they surrounded her voice so joyously. Stoned or otherwise.
all the best always did.
Amen....
Exactly.... just belt it out. 🎶
Simply the best
I fell in love all over again. What a hottie and that voice was magnificent!
Who still loves this song in 2022? 👍💕🥰
Hell to the ya

The World!.
It's 20:24 and I still love Linda.
Hey guys , join us o k , so I see you on a beautiful sunny day in california so enjoying
I will always love this song.Linda was the best ever
This woman was possibly the best female vocalist of the 20th century. If you examine all her work, over her entire career, you will see that she could do any type of music and do it brilliantly. That includes rock, country, Mexican, jazz ballads and opera. A huge talent and a humble person. Much love and appreciation for this brilliant diva! 👏
And she was Latina!!!
My dad passed away yesterday and now I'm making a playlist with all the songs he loved and I remember him by. This is one of them. Thank you dad for showing me the greatest artists of all times. Loved, missed and never forgotten 🤘🔥❤
Beautiful sentiment. Sorry for you loss but what a heartfelt way of remembering your dad.
Very sorry about the loss of your father. However, it's so heartwarming that you remember him through music that he (and most of us) loved!
Born to sing!! Truly a treasure.
The most beautiful singer the world has ever seen, in every way. A set of pipes like no other. So sad lovely Linda can’t perform any more. Love you forever 💖
Amen!
Man,ain't that right
She's the most well rounded vocalist we've seen in popular music
Such a rare gift
And the Sweetest Girl to ever Grace The Stage ❤️❤️❤️
Agree. The most important things is that she has found happiness. After all the joy she has brought the rest of us, it’s the very least that she deserves
@@martincox7354 I don't know if I would call living with Parkinsons and not being able to do the one thing She Absolutely Loved , Sing , I wouldn't call that finding happiness , but I do think she makes the best of Her bad situation. Linda doesn't seem like much of a complainer , I think she is as much of an " Earth Angel " that you could Hope to see . God Bless ☮️
The thing I have noticed listening to all of Linda's live performances is that each one can be put on an album as a final take. She and her band just seem to not make any mistakes.
She always had quality musicians, starting with the Eagles before they were famous. Steve Nicks hired several members of Linda’s touring band for her first solo tour.
1975, we were young Navy sailors aboard the USS America, VAW-124’s electronics shop, just below the round-down, night shift, 7 to 7. Our Linda Ronstadt tape must've played a thousand times during that seven month Med cruise. We never got tired of listening to her.
Her songs never get old
Hi Walter

@@helenmarret5776 very true. Love from North East India
Worked backstage at her concert at Six Flags over Texas when I was 16. Always one of my favs.
When you listen to an interview with Linda Ronstadt when she was young, she has this sweet, high-pitched voice. But when she got on stage, her voice was so powerful that it could blow the doors off the place!
The lady that got me through my teenage years! Age 60 now and still in love with her and her music!
Same age as me...Baby Boomers
Simply the best.....
Linda put me through some changes. Love her still - clear, powerful, feminine and unadorned. Rarest of songbirds.
As someone said she just delivers every time. She's the ultimate professional. She's my benchmark for female singers. And many so called top female singers couldn't hold a candle to her. AN ABSOLUTE LEGEND.
She’s so talented
I love her blouse! that would still be in style today. Adorable!
I saw Linda at the Hampton Roads Coliseum back in the early 80:s. It was a spur of a moment decision to go to her concert and man.....am I glad we did. I swear her voice penetrated the entire Coliseum!!! One of the best concerts I've ever seen performed by a solo artist. Love her so much!!! I hate that she has Parkinson's disease now! Nobody like her.
Linda is so unassuming and nonchalant as she banters with the band, then effortlessly launches into a pitch perfect, powerful, emotional rendering of this...showcases her unusual and prodigious natural vocal gifts...just phenomenal...
I know, she said they were hot and dying
@@pattimiranda8679 Yup...hot & dying Linda still comes thru in the biggest way...
Do you know I have never listened to Linda Ronstadt until the last several days. Of course, we all knew her name and who she was, but for me I never took the time to listen to a song of hers. Boy oh Boy could she sing. A real talent, and she looked like a sweet girl too. However, as they say it's never too late, and I'm so glad I have found her music, and her amazing vocal ability. I absolutely love her, and hec I have to say it makes feel like I have lived under a rock all these many years.
I was born in 1973. I will be 49 this October. I had NO IDEA I know so many Linda Ronstadt songs by memory. She is amazing.
Same here
Buddy Holly song actually.
To answer the song's question---you were loved the second you began to sing. God bless you.
Just one Linda.... Every man in America was in love with her... ❤️❤️❤️
those who were not, had never meet her-------------------willie nelson
Not just in the US mate, us British lads worshipped her, and still do. She's the greatest
She was so under credited with her talent. A true superstar with a voice was big as a house.
Lovely Linda. My first crush. First time I remember noticing that girls were "different" from boys, but I was still so young that I couldn't exactly understand why I was being affected in such a way. Beauty, talent, personality, not to mention, THE VOICE. Total package. Today's artists use electronics in the attempt to do what Linda was born with, and they still come up inferior.
"There are two kinds of men in this world. Those with a crush on Linda Ronstadt and those who never heard of her." - Willie Nelson
Yup
Willy Nelson said this about Emmylou Harris, and the word was love, not "a crush", and those who did not, were the ones who hadn't met her yet". :-)
That line is a little tired at this stage!!
So true, Willie!
The quote is wrong. Totally wrong. Do your research and learn before writing
Miss Linda Ronstadt has one of the greatest voices of my generation she hits the notes in perfection, amazing voice and a great talent.🎵
Karen Carpenter also !!
@@evanwolf6618 oh pleeze. Carpenter was a sour note square who sang cornball tunes with her creepy brother. Not in RONSTADT's universe. Why compare them?

Linda could always take a good song and make it great. Pure, solid vocalist with beautiful pitch.
The entertainment was Linda, her magnificent voice, her band and personal magnetism. Nothing else was needed to capture your heart forever. I miss her so….💞
Queen of hi-fidelity vinyl and even more mesmerizing live. Not a false note, no pretentious BS. Clear, powerful and warm. Very special - much more than her hits.

"Clear, powerful and warm". Indeed!
That is one of the sexiest, talented women that ever lived.
I love you and always have since I was a teenage boy in the 70s. What a great voice and those eyes were mesmerizing
Linda's voice and presence on stage spoke volumes. Captivating, she held her own on stage and let her voice do the talking. Unique.
Lovely Linda.. One of the HOTTEST of the 70's Ladies.. What a voice!!!
What a voice. I always prefer the original artists of the classics but this lady is just wow.
Same here! I thought Wild Horses by the Stones was great but the Sundays version will melt your heart.
😊🙃I'm very pleased to know I'm not the only one that loves the song but when last did you play it.
She had a way of making songs her own. So much emotion and heart.
I I believe she may be the greatest female singer ever. Just helping other musicians to bring out their courage in singing and writing
Linda was part of our revolutionary scene in the 60s. While building her career and establishing herself as a consummate musician, she was also present at our gatherings, notably, for me, her performing on campus at USC during the Student Strike, in memoriam for Kent State and Jackson State. I will always be bound to her.
as famous and respected as she is I still feel she is underrated as one of the best female vocalists ever
This beautiful and talented singer songwriter was inducted into rocknroll hall of fame 2014, soooooooo overdue.
Damn she was so gorgeous!

Damn she's amazing - we just drove to Austin to watch her documentary last night at the theatre - wow - a force of nature
I watched it on CNN. Then I watched it again. Somewhere in there, I fell in love with her. Then listening to her over and over on youtube I found out everyone falls in love with Linda Ronstadt. : )
Hear ya...I own a copy of this documentary, and yeah, Linda Ronstadt was a force of nature...just wish I had seen her live...I currently playback her material several times a week and love every note...one of the most versatile and powerful female vocalists ever...
@@BV-nx6vq Same here. Found out about a month ago from an old college chum with whom I reconnected, that Linda Ronstadt came to our school, St. John's University in Jamaica, Queens in '76. She said, "Weren't you with us?" Had no clue why I wasn't. Felt crushed the rest if the day all these years later.
Watching the documentary in the theater in September was thrilling, and I turned to TH-cam to find the full clips of what was shown in the film. Really is amazing, but not surprising to see how many people were just enthralled with that voice, and how many young men were just taken in by her loveliness. All the technology in the world can never outdo the Master who creates such unique and gifted human being like Ms. Ronstadt. Lucky for us, she knew early on what her mission in life was to be...to sing. And she sang and sang and sang until she couldn't anymore. Fortunately, our listening and watching will never stop!
I saw it on a plane to Austin
She wrote a great autobiography a few yrs. ago, get it and read it
The early to mid 70's were such a great time in music, and I'm so glad that I got to experience it.... ❤

I am proud to say I got to see Linda Ronstadt, Charlie Daniels Band, The Eagles, Seals & Crofts- Tampa Stadium 1975.
She sings really tough songs at a high level and makes it look easy.
Yes, and it stinks trying to sing it in your own little band and you're an alto! Takes me about a half an hour to warm up and try to get my voice to stretch High Enough and it just doesn't sound as well in a lower key! LMAO
What an amazing singer she is.
Exactly!
I have to agree with you , I'm just praying your Not a Russian Bot 🙏😉

A true singer, the looks. The voice, everything
Divine pipes. One of the very few female performers who filled the Arenas with male rockers and such. Love her still.
One of the best singers ever along with Carole King, Joanie Mitchell and Karen Carpenter OMG what a group that would be....
Oh please King and Mitchell were great songwriters but not in Ronstadt's vocal league - emotionally or otherwise. Linda sang loops around her contemporaries. Carpenter was a sour thin voiced cornball.
@@royallins591 Fuck me listen to Ivan Novello ! Carpenter, a sour voiced thin cornball ? Maybe ya batteries are gone in ya hearing aid ! I said maybe ya ...., oh it doesn’t matter.
@@grahammilburn3913 "Linda could sing loops around her contemporaries" So true and in two languages. Carpenter couldn't carry Ronstadt's toothbrush. Why even bring up the often grotesque Carpenters.?

@@royallins591 You obviously don't know what you're listening to or talking about. Mitchell's vocal range was legendary. She was revered and respected as a great singer/songwriter by the greatest singers and musicians of her era. Karen Carpenter hasn't connected with you yet, and maybe never will. This woman had the most genuine talent. She could sing absolutely anything perfectly and make it look easy.
She is an example of the great female singers (Linda, Tina, Janis, and many more) of the 50's, 60's, 70's, and 80's that belted out great songs unlike singers today who warble rather than sing.
There were indeed nights in concert with Linda that stand as transformational - no one could touch her vocally.
