this definitely was the perfect version of Wolverine, i know you said he was like an uncle but felt more like a father. his connection to Kitty and Rouge was great
And the fact that Laura was in the show too, this is the first version of wolverine I ever really connected to as a child, this Logan holds a special place in my heart. I hope if Hugh does do more X-Men movies, that they take their queues from Evolution and making it slightly more adult while still being about teenagers becoming heroes, and let the other X-Men shine with Wolverine's guidance.
@@wolfharbingeractually from what I understand, Laura was originally made for X-Men Evolution and then she was featured in later content. I could very well have that all wrong though so take it with a grain of salt.
The thing i really enjoyed with X-men 97 is they didn't oversaturate Wolverine to the plot. Wolverine is and has been my favorite, but he works best doing his own thing. The love triangle works, but it shouldn't have been a huge plot point. I feel Wolverine loves Jean because of her kindness, not a true loving feeling.
Venxous cooking again. You got to my favorite version of Wolverine with my favorite costume of his to. Honestly this is my first true Wolverine even though I had a 90's X-Men toy of his and saw Hugh Jackman wolverine. This Wolverine has most of his character traits without the flaws of wanting Jean. He is a good teacher, role model and uncle to the team. This show really gives his relationship with Kitty great weight that we don't see outside of the comics. He has a great relationship with Kurt and Charles, along with finally having a good relationship with Scott instead of them always fighting in most iterations of X-Men. I really want more of this version of him hut sadly we won't get that
@@strombreakr I watched his movies as a kid, I don't remmember a Lot of them, but I was annoyed How he was always feeling Sorry for himself and so much melodrama. Logan was the movie with him I liked the most, because It has all the traits of the best Wolverine stories (him acting solo and a father figure to a girl, and his death was great).
I loved him,he is such great mentor and father figure to the X-Men to the point that he finds peace and companionship with them as his family. Not to mention Scott's performance really matches his character and Steve Blum's as well
Honestly, Scott McNeil will always be the definitive voice of Wolverine to me. My favorite scene in the series is when X-23 is having her breakdown with Wolverine in her debut episode. That performance had me crying just as much as McNeil's other pivotal warrior poet role, Dinobot, from the Beast Wars cartoon series.
@@Jason5818UI, I was in either second or third grade - I can't remember which since I had the same teacher for both years - when I watched X-Men Evolution. This was my first time watching Wolverine in animation. For me, McNeil's voice as Wolverine just feels like a better fit for the character. And actors draw on inspiration from other performers all the time, so you criticism is pretty much pointless.
Excellent analysis as always! Here's some cool trivia about Wolverine here in Brazil: We had a few voice actors tackle Logan but the most iconic was Isaac Bardavid, who played him throughout all the Fox movies, but he sadly passed away not long after the release of Logan. One of the other amazing actors who had the role is Luiz Feier Motta, who played Logan in X-Men Evolution. After Isaac's passing, he's become the new main voice actor for Wolverine in recent projects, like X-Men 97 and Deadpool & Wolverine.
Thank u I agree evolution version of wolverine is the best version cuz there’s no bloody love triangle most x men characters best version is the evolution version
While X-Men evolution is my favorite non high Jackman adaptation of wolverine, I will always give wolverine from X-Men tas the gold medal just for the single line "tell cyclops I mad him a convertible" That aside as always an amazing deep dive into the characters and absolute love to this show, your videos are top tier and I'm so happy to keep seeing them coming thank you for this
I think Evolution version of wolverine was good seeing him being a mentor to the Young x men was cool and their not being the toxic love triangle with him Cyclopes and Jean was good and seeing him have a caring side to Kitty, Rouge and X-23 was good and Wolverine goes well as a Side Character more than a leader.
"Look, here's how I see it. I'd like to finish this job before New Years, so if you don't tell her, I will." I think that was the only acknowledgement to the Scott-Jean-Logan love triangle in X-Men Evolution. While Logan worked fine on his own in Evolution, if he was going to have a romantic partner, why wasn't he paired up with Storm? I'm not the biggest fan of Logan & Storm as opposed to Jean, but Storm was the only other adult on the team aside from Logan. And since Black Panther was never mentioned in that series, why not have Logan and Storm as a couple considering it happens in other timelines.
I knew there was a reason why I hated Wolverine for yrs, aside from him always being the center of attention, I k ew there was a reason I loved evolution Wolverine and hated other different versions. The other versions is him trying to act like the high horse, trying so hard to prove his dominance, and I can’t stand his rushing into things without thinking. Evolution Wolverine is more of a treat to see because he actually has more caring sides to him.
X men evolution easily has the most underrated Logan (Wolverine) variant. Logan always works best when he is not the main x man and was also great as a mentor for the X men and X 23. I also love Scott McNeil's performance and that he never has a love triangle with Scott and Jean ( which was annoying and would have never worked even if Storm and himself were teenagers in the show)
This interpretation of Wolvie was the go-to for me as well do to all the reasons mentioned in this video. But, I wouldn't say that Wolvierine has no place in kids or teen media becauce you can say that for several other superheroes. Hell, the Fantastic Four have had movies aimed at older audiences and those all sucked, versus their appearance in their last two animated shows and The A:EMH.
I've been waiting for this and it was worth the wait because besides hugh jackman, this is my favorite adaptation of Wolverine. I feel like this is the ultimate wolverine that needed to be in the comics.
BOTH Badass AND Caring. X-Men Evolution Forever has MY Fave VA & Fave Adaptation of Wolverine It’s reason why I actually prefer BOTH His Suits that The Iconic Yellow & Blue
17:17- 17:26. AND THERE IT IS!!! THAT RIGHT THERE!!! THAT IS WHY I HATE X-MEN THE LAST STAND AND WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN! These writer want so desperately to make Logan in charge and leader of the team that they character assassinate him and cyclops. They do that badly on cyclops to make him dumb in his decisions in order for Logan to talk some logic of the situation to make him look good and sound reasonable in order for him to be suited to be leader of the X-men. A guy who rushes into things without thinking is not what I call leader material
The best psrt evolution is theirs no stupid love triangle and he's actually pretty cool with cyclops. wolverine is one of my favorite marvel characters but i always hated the love triangle especially even in the comics i feel like logan has had healthy love relationship with other characters. Evolution was truly a breath of freash air for a wolverine just being a teacher and helping his students
Technically Wolverine says he can walk away from an explosion but the kids can't. Which is also a callback to season 1 when he literally walked away from an exploding lab.
Something you said i think kinda sums up where some super hero shows get things wrong - "you get to see Logan be Logan instead of always being The Wolverine" ... most superheros are leading 2 lives. Its an important character trait. There are some exceptions... i cant imagine Red Tornado goes to any book clubs.

Crazy how allowing Wolverine to be a grumpy mentor figure and side character instead of trying to force him into the role of protagonist and heroic leader led to an excellent adaptation of the character. Who would've thought, huh?
I respectfully disagree with you regarding Wolverine "not heavily suited to children's media", mainly because it is worth pointing out that it is the mostly PG 90s cartoon as well as the mostly PG-13 film series is what really boosted Wolverine into one of Marvel's most iconic characters even if I am grateful that we eventually got two R-Rated films with the character in "Logan" and "Deadpool & Wolverine". I mean yeah his comics are more violent than most media adaptations, but the same can be said for the likes of Batman or Spider-Man.
I never noticed that, but after you said it. Yeah, I completely agree. They focus way too much on Wolverine don't get me wrong. I love the whole action. Bad ass thing, but maybe a break every. Once in a while, every couple episodes are every other movie. I'm just saying.
I love me some mentor Logan. You'd think it'd happen more considering his age and experience but nah, it's just love triangles with people half his age and Logan accidentally killing his lover for the dozenth time.
Ben Grimm was and is my favorite hero of the marvel universe. Has been my entire 30 years. I miss the Hulk and Thing era. Im honestly tired of the MCU and have been since before end game. Also Toad and Blob and Sabertooth have been my favorite Mutants in the xmen mythos. But of the good mutants its Nightcrawler, Beast, Wolverine, and funny enough Leech. I just like Leech
Incorrect… this show is very different from the comic. Really cool version of the character though. If you like him just say that don’t attach statements that aren’t true
I hated Wolverine for yrs because I am sick and tired of everything focusing on him being the center stage. Hollywood tried to much to make him center of everything with his solo films and making the X-men films focus on him. And considering that the concept of Wolverine is now as wrinkly and saggy as my grandfather balls, Hollywood is still tried to squirt more Wolverine out of the wrinkly, saggy sack.
I just don't get why Logan wears orange for the majority of the series. I understand that in this iteration that he's more of a mentor, so it would make sense that his uniform would be different, but I don't get why they chose orange. Especially since in the 4th season, every member of the team starts wearing the Ultimate X-Men uniforms from the Grant Morrison run, so Logan wearing a distinctive uniform loses all appeal anyway.
17:36...... you like wolverine as a character but know nothing about him. He has been written well as a leader several times in the comics, and he was put as the main focus in the Xmen films because of how popular he is.
