Best version of Cyclops because he doesn't whine or have a bs love triangle. Mostly because he's a kid and is still growing up to learn how to be a leader, plus he shows leadership qualities which makes him more interesting
Not to mention his thing with Jean feels super natural and genuine. The drama in that relationship when it actually happens, actually tends to feel earned.
Kirby Morrow was always a phenomenal VA and I absolutely loved him as Cyclops. RIP man, lended his talents to many characters I loved and I will always enjoy hearing his voice.
X-men evolution was how I first got into liking the character cyclops. Do you realize how much as a kid I have had many ear sores due to always twisting my ear pretending I was opening a visor to fire optic blasts.
I'd even go so far as to say X-Men Evolution understood the relationship dynamic between Scott and Jean. For the longest time it was the only X-Men animated series to get it right. Thankfully X-Men 97 has finally got it.
Honestly, X-Men: Evolution is the only series where the X-Men genuinely felt like a family. It feels like it took the best aspects of the movies (such as Xavier being warmer and gentler than he was in the comics, the Xavier Institute being an actual school with students, Mystique having a connection to Magneto, Cerebro having a more sci-fi look etc) and mixed it with the comic lore. It's a real shame Teen Titans poached the ratings which led to Evo being cancelled. They had so much planned. They were going to adapt the Dark Phoenix Saga next. And after that they were going to delve into the origin of mutants and possibly introduce the Eternals and end the series with a wedding (they hadn't decided whether it would be between Rogue and Cyclops (they were going to kill off Jean at the end of the Phoenix arc) or Nightcrawler and Amanda).
I wonder if when people call Scott “The X-Man” they know that was his original code name when he was the only student. That’s why his son later takes the name
The reason the football players were under the bleachers was because they were ahead, i remember that episode and there was a small scene where duncan asked his coach if he could rest and the coach looked at the score saw that they were double the opposing team and said "sure whatever". Its crazy to me how much detail and effort the old 2000s shows put in.
That opening alone sets up that Scott’s a fighter, looks out for others, only sees things in shades of red, has no control over his abilities, can cause a lot of damage, and him and Jean are close. Already that’s 10x anything more than Fox let him have lmao.
Before X-Men 97 gave us possibly the greatest adaptation of Scott Summers showed audiences how much of badass he truly is, X-Men Evolution was my personal favourite X-Men show and their take on Scott/Cyclops was my favourite as they did an excellent job depicting Scott as a big brother and good leader to the team that knows when to mature and step up in serious situations, but he is still a young man and isn't a buzzkill and knows how to have fun and be charismatic. His chemistry with Jean and the way they naturally built up their relationship to feel organic. I also really appreciate how this show didn't choose to make Wolverine and Cyclops rivals, if anything Wolverine acts more like a begrudgingly frustrated mentor for Scott and the other X-Men, and even gives Scott advice sometimes despite not agreeing with everything yet you can feel how much Logan respects Scott as a young man. Kirby Morrow truly does a great job and I sincerely miss him as I loved his performance in this show as Scott and his others voice work in shows like Lego Ninjago as Cole (one of my all time favourite childhood shows)
X-Men evolution is honestly my favourite rendition of those characters. Even the original series with all it's drama made it seem like the characters borderline hated each other. Evolution actually made them seem like a family with everyday conflicts between personalities. Also, loved the VA work, Scott McNeil had to retake up smoking to make his voice gravelly enough for wolverine. I will forever miss you Kirby Morrow, and your ability to do young leader hero voices!
That's my favorite thing I hate the triangle because it's gross.Wolverine is a 120 year old man chasing a high school girl doesn't matter if she's 18 or not that's weird.Atleast in the movies she was an adult the love triangle Is just gross
I disagree that Cyclops was a static character. He started off as a sensitive loner who grew into a more level-headed person after suddenly being thrust into the role of a leader. We can see how much he has grown as a character in season 3 where the X-Men are chased by the authorities and Wolverine urges the team to attack them, but Cyclops has learned to think outside the box and refuses to attack, knowing that it would only provoke more anti-mutant sentiments and therefore orders his team to only use their powers to defend themselves. Season 1 Cyclops may have been compassionate, but he was also impulsive. Season 3 Cyclops has conquered that character flaw. The only static character in this series was Storm, who only had one episode centered around her.
Kind of funny to me, X-men Evolution was my first exposure to X-men entirely. So in the movies when Wolverine started going after Jean Gray for love, it was really uncomfortable to me lol, cuz I could only see her as a high school student lol
Thank you I always liked Scott in this series. He was a leading man, people liked him not just for his leadership but he was just willingly a cool guy. I love the triangle between him, Jean and Rogue instead of Wolverine being in there. Jean and Scott have great chemistry while Rogue tries to win Scott's approval. This and 90s X-Men, including 97, and X-Men anime just get Scott that the series after along with the movies fail to do.
Being a writer, I’m in the middle of making a story that focuses on Cyclops. And I intend on doing what directors neglect to do, make him use his powers in a unique resourceful fashion. Powers having powers.
Just keep in mind what a lot of writers seem to forget. Cyclops's optic beams are a kinetic force. There is no heat generated so there shouldn't be any fire nor embers/ashes created as a result from his power. X-Men 97 did a good job showing that since he used his beams to navigate the scene and also to safely descent his fall onto the desert sand using his beams only creating a crater vs Storm who turned the sand into glass when she struck the sand with her lightning.
@@tkim2320 bro come on. I am not stupid like these idiot writers or oblivious fans who after 24 yrs still don’t comprehend the true nature of cyclops’ powers. They are beams of concussive force and i have for the 11 yrs thought of ways how those blasts can be used in a unique resourceful fashion.
@@tkim2320 as I said, I’m my writing I am making use of his optic blasts to be used in resourceful ways. Let’s say the floor was made of steel. If a cyclops was fighting, let’s say Wolverine, Cyclops would run straight at Wolverine, making the latter believe that Cyclops was going for a straight up charge attack but as cyclops is running towards him, he performs a jump and at that split second after he jumps, he fires a short but powerful optic blast on the ground that propelled him higher in the air, catching Wolverine off guard. See how the environment plays a huge part in usage of his powers? This jump was only possible because the ground was made of steel allowing the optic blast to lean against it. Such a jump would be impossible if used in a forest because the forest’s ground is made entirely of soil, of earth. The best such a blast can do in a forest is create a tunnel to travel underground.
This video supports the idea that XME also has the best version of JEAN GREY as well. The mountain climbing episode was a great display of her ethical code
This was my introduction to the Xmen, I remember loving the designs for toad and rogue and loving the storyline and how it took a more youthful look at the younger x men.
I loved the animated 90s show as a kid, and then when Evolution came out? Ahh man after being disappointed with the live actions at the time sidelining Scott, this show DID infact do him justice. I expecially remember him being cool in school standing up to people (and thankfully wasn't the typical boyscout nerd in school holding back his REAL confident personality). When he took on juggernaut and unleashing his full blast? One of my favorite moments
This was my introduction to X men. None of the comics, not the 90s show, not or Wolverine and the X men. So them all being teens felt natural and from public perception being one of if not the best interpretation of Cyclops. I also say Kirby Marrow who voiced him (RIP) helped a lot with that. Showing his determination as well as being naive. He was a natural leader coming into the role as the group got bigger, despite being a 17 year old high school student.
This is one of the best versions of Scott I also love his shades they're super cool. Best thing Xavier ever made for him also we get to see himbbe a kid while he's trying to grow up too fast he should dial it back & be a teenager even if he's future leader in training. I don't know why I can see Kurt & Todd being bffs because they have some things in common. Hell, I can also see Todd & Scott becoming friends as well despite them being on opposite sides. I remember Magneto telling Xaxier that he doesn't trust the X-Men with the truth & we're left to wonder what is Xavier hiding? It must have something to do with the X-Men & perhaps the Brotherhood as well.
It's more like X-Men Evolution focused on characters other than Wolverine (much like how X-Men 97 is currently doing) & non-comic book readers are finally seeing how interesting everyone else can be (when given the spotlight). What makes the X-Men interesting is that they're a "family" & how they interact w/ not only a world that hates & fears them, but also how they engage w/ their fellow mutants (on a human level, showing that they're not that much different than their fellow man). X-Men Evo just did a better job of showing the "mutant student" aspect of the X-Men, which has always been a central theme of the IP (which was kinda lost in other iterations). While XTAS will always be superior to me (since it's more faithful to the comics), Evo at least introduced one of my fav new characters (X-23). Hopefully the MCU will do the X-Men justice & they'll reclaim their 90s popularity (or hopefully eclipse it) & it'll spin off to other media (i.e. video games, tv shows, merch, etc.).
It's both this version and the X-Men 97 version that are my favorite adaptations of Cyclops. I'm sick and tired of Cyclops being written like the teams butt-monkey.
I loved Evolution and the premise behind it. Having our fan favorites as teenagers and working their way up to the heroes we know and love was great, and then building up from the core team. Having Logan as the team dad was a great dynamic too (and killing the love triangle angle entirely. Like, give Logan Mariko already and leave Jean to Scott). And it even introduced us to X-23, which I will forever be thankful for.
Thanks for making these videos, Venxous! I grew up just a year or two too young for the 90s cartoon. So, to me, X-men Evolution, WAS and IS the definitive version!
21:31 I resent that, if we’re referring to post AvX. Dude didn’t go evil, he just escaped prison and made a team that was going to be more proactive in defense and offensive defense of mutant kind ( in a time where new mutants were being killed). Almost every issue in AvX was the Avengers fault. He was in prison because he killed Charles while under the influence of the full force of the Phoenix (against his will), which never would’ve happened if they didn’t stop the Phoenix Five who were helping world with their powers, which never would’ve happened if Tony didn’t break up the Phoenix force in the first place that entered those five mutants (against their will), that never would’ve happened if the Avengers didn’t distrust the X-Men/Cyclops when he knew the Phoenix force reaching Hope Summers would be a good thing for mutant kind. And it ended up happening anyway, and turned out to revitalize the mutant population like Cyc knew it would. Hence “Cyclops Was Right”. Avengers never inserted themselves into mutant issues before, and one of the only times they do, it’s to get in the way of something good for their people. Cyc didn’t go evil. If we’re talking about a different time, hell, I don’t know it.
Another great X-Men Evolution video! That was such a great take on Scott Summer! I hope you do more X-Men Evolution videos!!!!! Could we get some love for the Brotherhood? Avalanche/Lance Alvers and Scarlet Witch/Wanda Maximoff were my favorite characters in the show! I also think it was the BEST takes on both characters!!!!!!
21:28 Scott went evil?! More like Scott reached the peak of his character! Cyclops did what was the best for mutant kind, even if it was morally questionable, and was proven right in the end #CyclopsWasRight

Honestly wish that we had more of Havoc. He could have been someone who'd join the Brotherhood simply because while he disagrees with Magneto, at the same time he's grateful to the guy in a way similar to how Scott is grateful to Professor X. Throw in a possible romance with Wanda and you'd be set.
Liked the video a ton and totally agree. My dad, who grew up loving Wolverine in the 80s/90s was so confused why his X-Men Evolution watching kid loved Cyclops. Gotta ask though. You keep mentioning the end of season 1 like it’s the end of the show. You know that there are 3 more, increasingly great seasons, right?
Scott is the best Xman period. As much as I don’t like Grant Morrison, he turned Scott into what Scoot would become as a leader who made the hard choices.
Great video, and I loved Evolution so hoping for more… Please though, check the levels … clip audio was really loud compared to you, which meant either a hard time hearing you or getting absolutely blasted every time you played a clip. 😬 Still, very much agree that Scott is very well represented in this series and I wish it hadn't been cancelled when it was. There was a lot of promise here for several characters, and it was nice to see the mutants just trying to deal with growing up with these abilities that manifest in teens.

X-Men TAS Cyclops: Cold leader who rarely shows warmth and gets defensive over Jean Wolverine and the X-Men: Overly dependent jealous boyfriend who has no life outside Jean and will endanger civilians just because. Also shown to be a not very good leader in flashbacks Modern Comic Cyclops: Terrorist and Philanderer who will murder people to get what he wants and will cheat on his wife to the point his own daughter renounces him Fox X-Men Cyclops: Barely any screentime, but what he has is just about him and Jean or the atrocity that is Last Stand Evolution's competition is pretty weak to be a personal favorite, 97 is the only other good adaption of Cyclops tbh. Pryde of the X-Men Cyclops is cool too Ig.
Scott Summers has _always_ been responsible, compassionate and willing to work with anybody...partially because he's one of the _staunchest_ believer in Xavier's dream. _X-Men:TAS_ said it in the last episode: "No father could be more proud of his son." ...and that was even _with_ Scott being a flawed character. His rival for Jean here is Duncan, as opposed to Logan, but the dynamics [age, involvement, etc] are different. In the comic companion series, we learn more; the main difference is Scott is easier going than his 616 version, but everything else is very similar, just highlighted.
HOLD UP! 22:07 I've seen bits and pieces of this show and so far I've agreed with most of what you've said. My brother is a fan and I've been meaning to sit down and watch it... But you're meaning to tell me we get a Jean Croft... I mean Lara Grey... whatever. Jean Grey even has the tomb raider ponytail braid. I have to watch this show now, what a reference to make when Jean physically starts rock climbing.
P.S. Damnit, I completely lost the point of the video after seeing that. The only thing Jean is missing to complete the look are pistols (which I get it, kids show) and a pair of... Red sunglasses... Or... Summer's shades? Damn this show is smart.

Was always so confused when watching the x men films as I grew up watching Wolverine as a badass lone wolf whom cameos & mentors & Scott summers as the main leader with all the struggles
So I agree with most of this video I think where it takes the detour for me is the part with Scott and Alex. Firstly, Scott and Alex were not separated at birth in the episode it clearly states that he and Alex got separated because Alex was adopted by a family after their family was involved, in a plane crash and Scott was left in a coma. Scott being angry at his separation from Alex has little to do with Scott feeling like he had a good life and more to do with Scott thinking he was alone in this world with nobody but the x-men and he finally found the missing piece that he yearned for for so long that being his biological family. Scott’s willingness to throw the X-Men and Xavier’s dream to the waste side for Alex showed that he essential was willing to give his life to keep Alex in it

X-Men 97 version is basically Evolution's Cyclops.
@@vetarlittorf1807just a chance to actually be depicted as an adult
Back when X-Men wasn’t The Logan and Charles show and then later on became Wolverine and Friends
Rip Kirby Morrow man. In a sea of great actors for the character (even if they aren't the best protrayed), he's one of the best.
I love X-men evolution as a kid.
R.i.p. evolution cyclops
R.I.P. Kirby Morrow.
Thanks for making these videos, Venxous! I grew up just a year or two too young for the 90s cartoon. So, to me, X-men Evolution, WAS and IS the definitive version!
Cyclops better be given as much justice in Evolution and 97
X-men evolution is so underrated in my opinion and having cyclops in this show be the character i know and love is amazing in my opinion.
First(love your x-men evolution videos)
I hated how Kelly Never got Punished for trying to hurt the X-Men
I grew up with X Men Evolutions and Scott was always my favorite, I hope future depictions will treat Scott right
Another great X-Men Evolution video!
Lance and Wanda arew for sure getting thier own videos trust
21:28
Scott went evil?! More like Scott reached the peak of his character!
Cyclops did what was the best for mutant kind, even if it was morally questionable, and was proven right in the end
#CyclopsWasRight
X-Men Evolution is honestly one of the best depictions of them outside of the OG Cartoon.
Evolution Scott was perfection
Are you cyclope fan and x men evolution series? Sorry for asking this question.
@@Universeknight10055 Yes to both. When writers treat Cyclops with respect as a person though flawed; but with redeeming qualities.
@@Karlos1234ifygood afternoon. Thank you for answering my questions. I'm fan of cyclope and jean grey and phoenix force and goth Rogue and x men evolution series and x men the animated series 90's. You have great day and next day and week and weekend and next week and full happiness 😊😊😊😊😊😊.
Thank you for making a video for my favorite X-Men! Cyclops is so dope!
This show did a good job of actually making you feel the impact of those blasts.
I really wish that the Late Great Kirby Morrow had been given another opportunity to voice Cyclops before his untimely death in 2020.
Definitely. He felt like how Scott would have turned if Charles got to him at a younger age before he *broke* .
The MCU had better be taking notes. This is peak X-Men
Liked the video a ton and totally agree.
I plan to cover all the seasons, but for the sake of my sanity I do one season at a time
@@Venxous sick! I’ll sub for more X-men Evolution
ALWAYS MY FAVOURITE CYCLOPS when it comes to character and charisma in this series.
This was the X-men show I grew up with and remember most growing up. Kurt and Rouge being some of my favorite characters from the show.
This show literally made me a fan of Cyclops. I always thought he was underused in the films
His actor also voiced Cole from ninjago who was also like a big brother and I’m still sad that that Kirby morro there voice actor is gone
4:04 Toad snuck into X-men mansion cause he had a beef with night crawler is not true. He dint even know night crawler.
He was sent by Mystique to gather intel
This man is doing all the classics!!!
X-men remains to be one of the best animated depictions of the team.
jean in a braid a grren tank top and shorts is just a redhead lara croft and im all here for it
X-men evolution Clyclops is goated!!
Are you cyclope fan and x men evolution series? Sorry for asking this question.
Poor Kevin and Scott, their cars are always getting destroyed
I love this show. RIP Kirby Morrow.
Good ol summers
The only thing i rememberd from this cratoon is that girls had the sharpest jaw line ever
My favorite mutant! This show was my introduction to loving this character.
Scott was standing on business.
Always been my favorite x-men property. I feel like it leans into the anime vibe and understands the point. I love this version of Scott, understanding, kind and not stagnant. He’s not the leader we know he’s 17
Xmen evolution and recently 97 redeemed cyclops and did him right
Though I haven't seen much of the show, but what I have seen Cyclops is written better, or at least more likeable than what was shown in the 92 X-Men series. 😊
This is my X-men
Love thsi character and love this show
just found your channel today and ended up subscribing and watching a few videos i like your stuff i like the fact your into a lot of the shows and movies i like to watch
i was wondering can you cover the hellboy animated movies (sword of storms and blood and iron) and superman vs the elite at some point that would be dope
X-Men TAS Cyclops: Cold leader who rarely shows warmth and gets defensive over Jean
Wolverine and the X-Men: Overly dependent jealous boyfriend who has no life outside Jean and will endanger civilians just because. Also shown to be a not very good leader in flashbacks
Modern Comic Cyclops: Terrorist and Philanderer who will murder people to get what he wants and will cheat on his wife to the point his own daughter renounces him
Fox X-Men Cyclops: Barely any screentime, but what he has is just about him and Jean or the atrocity that is Last Stand
Evolution's competition is pretty weak to be a personal favorite, 97 is the only other good adaption of Cyclops tbh. Pryde of the X-Men Cyclops is cool too Ig.
Grossly oversimplifying the comic version.
Good video! I look forward to seeing more.
This series made me love him
Professor Xavier's many outta pocket moments.
W takes man great vid
I know alot of ppl kinda bashed the show, but I frickin loved it
I'm the thousandth like, nice
and congratz :D
Underrated.
Yes bro pls make more vids on X-men evolution
I love Cyclops/Scott Summers in Evolution.
Are you cyclope and x men evolution series ? Sorry for asking this question.

Was always so confused when watching the x men films as I grew up watching Wolverine as a badass lone wolf whom cameos & mentors & Scott summers as the main leader with all the struggles
This made me love scott...THEN ALONG CAME THE PHOENIX FIVE
Rightclops was cool
So I agree with most of this video I think where it takes the detour for me is the part with Scott and Alex. Firstly, Scott and Alex were not separated at birth in the episode it clearly states that he and Alex got separated because Alex was adopted by a family after their family was involved, in a plane crash and Scott was left in a coma. Scott being angry at his separation from Alex has little to do with Scott feeling like he had a good life and more to do with Scott thinking he was alone in this world with nobody but the x-men and he finally found the missing piece that he yearned for for so long that being his biological family. Scott’s willingness to throw the X-Men and Xavier’s dream to the waste side for Alex showed that he essential was willing to give his life to keep Alex in it
ur videos are so good
@Venxous XME Scott was the Glen Murakami Teen Titans Robin.
I like a flawed but genuine Scott.
Quick correction: Scott was 7 when he became an orphan. Alex was younger by a year or two. They were not separated at birth.
I rewatched this series so many times as a kid because of how much I hated the movies
