I'm just new to your channel and have a few questions. #1 at what speed do you run your buffer? #2 did you clearcoat and if not how do you blend that into the clearcoated portion? Thank you for posting these, I have much catching up to do. TTFN
Probably clearcoat mixed with base color and then applied
Started using your techniques at my work, getting better everytime, customers are over the moon with the results, money and time saved. Thank you😊
Do you mix the paint with reducer?
Great video but could hardly hear you over the polisher
But the result looked perfect to me 😊
Yes I wasn't aware of this. Probably talking rubbish anyway
I put on the subtitles...
@@cvrpovhighly recommend dipping the volume down on the video clip when the polisher is on or the entire clip. Some editing software have a ‘ducking’ feature where it automatically dips the volume when there narration.
Thank you for taking all the extra time to make these videos. You approach things differently from any of the other channels and make these fixes seem approachable to people who don’t have all of the pro equipment. I’ve been enjoying learning from you. Keep it up!
I also second that comment
Great feedback thanks
Every car body shop in the country must hate this guy. Giving out all the tricks of the trade to save people money...how refreshing is that👍
Hi do you have a discount code for the shop
@@cvrpov8" clear coat scratch, suggestions? Tool and compound wise? Thanks
Got a quote for 1k to respray the side of a mk6 fiesta because some turnip keyed it...previous owner must have enemies 😂 i got some panther black rattle can spray. Fingered the life out the panels with the paint. I didn't trust the depth of paint to hit it with any sand paper. But i did machine polish a plenty. It really does look so much better. Hardly visible. Perfect for an ageing car. It doesnt have to be perfect. Just presentable.
How long did you leave the paint before polishing? About to try this at the weekend!
no clear coat on the finish?
No nonsense paintwork repairs, brilliant channel 😎
Thanks mate that's exactly what I'm trying to achieve
thanks again from Perth WA. I am learning a lot from you for minor paint repairs on both daughters car, thanks for keeping them to around 10 minutes makes it easier to absorb, basically, solvent paint, 1500 and 2000 grit and a good compound with a DA or rotary and you can go a long way for DIY repairs if we follow your steps.
Also from Perth 🤙
? Rubbing in paint with your finger tips ? Using your fingers to cut over instead of your palm ? Using a dry mop at far to higher speed ? Don’t tell amateurs the wrong way to buff and best not to tell people to cut and buff as they WILL f IT UP . Don’t know how many car sales men who watch you for five minutes professionally detail a scratch or chip and then they do it and burn through the paint when buffing . Usually by the mop being dry and to fast . Poly the car off except for the repair area , use a damp mop and slower speeds . NEVER EVERY BUFF IN A BOOTH , you’ll throw crap everywhere and it drop off the ceiling as you spray .
This aint conventional "buffing," though, is it?
It's not in a booth either.
Many car salespeople have thanked me for showing them methods to save them money.
Many people have literally saved hundreds of pounds with the methods.
Many tradesmen and detailers have found new ways to make income and increase their revenue and services they can offer.
If you want conventional detailing, then find one of the many, many detailing channels and watch the same old product testing videos using equipment your average person can't afford or justify buying.
If you want a spraying video, then find one of the many refinishing channels of some guy in a booth doing a full respray.
You've totally missed the point of the channel, the technique, and the intention, so congratulations 👏🏼
@@cvrpov the fact you use a dry mop isn’t not the way ,DAMP MOP NOT DRY . Read the back ( instructions ) of the G’ series buffing compounds. It has to remain damp so it doesn’t pick up heat that burns the paint ! ! ! The fact you try teaching idiots who have absolutely no clue in the depth and how to cut paint is shocking . I only teach people who have experience in a paint shop . Well I guess there’s a massive gap in difference in your work and mine . I certainly wouldn’t finger paint anything . I use a thin fine brush . Soften the paint with a quick brush of thinners on the crack or chip , then build up paint . Mate you finger paint chips and scratches , you use fingers to rub down when you should use your palm ( it’s like using a soft block , fingers rub undulating lines in the paint because of your finger’s irregularities) . You probably buff in the booth that fires crap all over it ( falls back into your paintwork when spraying )
There is so many things wrong with what you do and teach it’s shocking . I goto ask who tutored you or are you self taught ? You see I was self taught , did my first split panel car when I was 8 ( a beetle , I was spraying two tone bmx bikes at 6 ) . Doing full hits at 12 , by the time I was 15 working in a paint shop I had a guy remove me from top coats saying “ you’ll concentrate on repairs and primer till I tell you to move on , master basics first as they relate more to making the job come out correct “ .
9 months later I was moved onto the bare basics of top coats , taking another year to move onto full hits ( total shell painting ) . Self knowledge is ok but having an old boy guide you through to drum perfection into you is a must in some careers . If I did your finger sanding or finger painting you know what I’d get ? Sanding multiple jobs ( just old crumpled bonnets and useless crap not being used again ) till my fingers bleed out because I only using my fingers . When your fingers are sore you automatically start using the pad of your thumb to sand , soon you realise it leaves no finger line marks . Home Learned stuff or being taught from a person who’s never been through an apprenticeship will always lead to half cuts and botches
Nothing less than brilliant. And that's coming from the nephew of a 50yr veteran panelbeater who never told me anything more than the basics. Thank you so much for sharing all these tricks of the trade. Priceless!
Thanks for the feedback 👍🏻👊🏻
@@cvrpov can order from USA?
Thank you so much for this mate! Not many people share their tricks. Thanks again for a great vid ❤
No problem 👍
Does the paint fill the scratch so it's now pretty much level or is it just colouring the scratch so it's less noticable
Kinda both
I couldn't hear what you were saying when you were using the tool... so what type of pad did you use? What speed setting did you use on the machine and what type of paint did you use and where's the best place to get it? Sorry for all the questions but you've inspired me to do some work on my old car and feel I could actually do it. Cheers and well done 👍
I use www.paintgear.co.uk for the solvent paint. I used farecla g360 at a low/medium speed and plenty of it to keep the cut high
Merhaba güzel paylaşımların için teşekkürler boyayı hasarlı yüzeye sürmeden önce boya içerisine tiner sertlestirici vernik katıyormusun zemine sürdükten sonra ne kadar bekletiyorsun
DSP - Digital Signal Processing ...could be used to repair the horrible audio problem. There are audio tools that can be targeted at removing the buffing tool's noise (which makes your narrative unintelligible). But, if you run an audio cleanup tool, and tweak the tool to "target" just the frequencies of your buffing tool, the audio tool will "subtract" those frequencies from the sound track. The remaining vocal (your voice) will be impacted "some" but not enough that it affects the intelligibility of your message.
Cheers. It sounded ok on my laptop
Hi, Good video/tutorial ,well done !.......After the "finished product" in your video , what can I apply to seal that shiny finish for a good period of time......Which product shall i apply, and how long will it last approximately before i would need to repeat the process ?
You could apply a ceramic coating
It would be great if this would work on crows feet.
Haha I'd definaly sub that channel
Why do you always talk over the polisher can’t hear your instructions
Use the closed captioning
You probably aren’t as pee ex as it sounds.?
Don’t be a hater
Captions are great
Another fantastic video iv been watching you for years and your content genuinely is as straightforward as it gets you explain it in a way that anyone can attempt it. Iv learn so much, I'm a moblie valeter by trade and all the tricks iv picked up over the years helps me offer a better service....so big respect to you.
Much appreciated. Thanks for the support
Where you based mate I’ve got a some chips and a few scratches that need sorting is that something you can do? @nailz84
Nicely done! Only thing I would add is don't do this (especially the compounding part) outside in direct sunlight (although that applies to pretty much all polishing materials).
Yep I agree
Hi, did comment on tik tok but I’ll try here. I’ve got a similar scratch on main body on car down to main body, but, clear coat has also come away about 1 1/2 inch square so no CC surrounding scratch !! How do I repair that ? Thanks.
Hi. Probably needs a respray by the sounds of it. Could possibly put a bit of basecoat In the scratch and then baby squeegee some clearcoat around the area but not sure how it would turn out .
Really good tips. Seen this technique done before and is was mind blowing 🤯 No brushes, toothpicks, etc. Just 1 index finger.
Works great on the right damage
I've notice that you do a lot of things in your videos that you then recommend we don't do. 🤔I realize that you are just giving us the jest of it, but I think that your procedures can be a bit more detailed. Appreciate the vid though!
Hi. Amazed. Would this work with a metallic paint?
Don't other videos on this mate check them out
Where could we get a pad comparable to the one you used in this video? Ive got a 8" clear coat scratch and this equipment may be something i should invest in? Thanks for the excellent video
www.paintgear.co.uk
Excellent video's,,, keep up with your great work 👌
Thanks, will do!
So impressed by this.. it seems so easy when done by a professiona...I've never had the courage to start on paint/bodywork repairs but your approach is really almost simplistic to watch...gotta be worth a try...thanks for posting
With this technique did you mix the clear coat with the base coat that comes in the paint gear kit
Yes a small amount of the gloss enhancer
I think that you should explain things like "black solvent paint". Not everyone will no exactly what that is.
Don't you get fibres from the cloth caught up in the paint ? I've got those clothes and they shed just using a strong coating.
That's why u have to apply quickly
Love the video! Maybe during voiceovers lower the volume for the tools? Makes hearing you easier!
Yep noted ta
I put on the subtitles...
Common sense and genuine encouragement! Thank you for all your tips and tricks.
Thanks for watching!
Do you have a link to the coverup paint you used. The link in description does not work.
That's strange. www.paintgear.co.uk
Please turn the video's audio down if you're going to dub over it, its terribly hard to hear anything you said when buffer is running.
No problem, use your eyes !!!
Hi, where are you based in the UK? I have a lease car due to be returned at the end of July.
I have a key scratch on my boot and a few other light scratches that I need removed. If you’re not far from me can you help?
We are not currently taking bookings sorry
"It's not often I go over 10 mins..."
I feel your pain brother! 😆
Very interesting approach. As a DIYer with an interest in keeping our car tidy without going crazy on $£€¥ I get that simply filling a deep scratch with basecoat is a quick simple way to bring the paint surface back up to level without using paint putty and all that hassle .. but I wouldn't have thought of rubbing a base coat laden cloth over the existing clear top coat then sanding/buffing. Intriguing!
Absolutely amazing. I wouldn’t have believed a technique like this would work as well as it did if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes. I have a similar project to do on my own car. Hope it works out as well for me!
No problem mate, good luck and enjoy the hobby
Didn't hear a lick when you were buffing...
Wish you can provide links to the products used that I can buy here in the USA 🇺🇸 especially car paint supplier.
Yeah we are working in this mate
I can barely hear you over the sound of the polisher. Need to boost your voice over volume.
I turned on subtitles, no choice really
Im eating dorito chips while watching. 😮
He needs to decrease the sound of the machine and use a voice-over. These sounds are super annoying, especially if you're on headphones.
Very good work but it would be good if you said how you prepare the paint and also how long it takes to dry or how long it can be polished thanks
Didn't really prepare the paint. Just make sure it's fairly clean beforehand. The rubbed in paint was left about 10 mins
I also have black BMW 20 years old and the original paint looks really good but I have a lot of scratches on the roof from a brush in car wash. Could I do the same thing ?
Yes defo worth a try. This or the rub n Buff method in my other videos
@@cvrpovok thanks, ill try something
Thank you very much! Do you think we can do this multiple times, say once every year, and the lacquer will be fine because we just rub off that excess paint that we have applied on the surface?
I wouldn't recommend that. You will remove some clear when the excess is being removed.
OK, i see! Thanks!@@cvrpov
A car peppered with rock chips like that, is a sign the driver tailgates other vehicles, lift the right foot abit buddy!
Possibly yes. Not my car tho
Ever thought about washing the car before starting any paintwork?
No
How does this work with a more specific colour, say pearl white or a metallic orange? I'm nervous to start rubbing paint over my car, then sanding.
Pearl white sometimes I just use the white undercoat. If the chips are small then you can maybe get away with the colour not being perfect
nothing will last long when the chemical are wash off. it will be back in a year ir and and it will look worst.
that why we have spry paint for the long term method
Seal it with ceramic then
Interesting video, what do you mean by "Black Solvent base coat" Isn't that Black Car Paint? I'm from the West so we might be using different words from UK
Helpful but you need to improve the audio. I could not hear many of your words when the rotary was on.
Noted
Videos for ordinary people to follow. Excellent 👍
That's what this channel is about mate so I hope that comes across
Video was good the the machine started and the voice was just a background murgling. Maybe next time Watch the video before uploading it.
can you use paint from a spray can and spray it into a cup to use to rub the paint in?
Not usually it's too thin
@@cvrpov damn. I have just bought a made up can for my A6 to spray but your technique looks better. I’ll give it a try and maybe do it a few times to thicken the coatings
You fucked up that video with your polisher
Lol ok
Did you realy need to talk through the buffing wheel varkey gear you need better editing
Was OK on my laptop.
Do you let the paint completely dry between steps here and for wet sanding?
I usually leave it about 15 mins
You need a muffler on that grinder, can't hear you talking.
Yep been mentioned. U didn't miss owt, just Me waffling
Why no clear coat? Can this be done effectively on a white metallic?
It works better without clear. White metallic is very difficult to get good results. I tend to use just the white basecoat
0:44 when you start applying new paint on larger surfaces like that, how should the surface be cleaned for paint to stick best ? Car shampoo, degreaser maybe ? Thanks.
Tell you what is funny lad , i remember when you first started your streams and karens would slag u off , funny how now they all using your techniques lol, that's life brother 😆.
I still get my fair share of Karen's pal, except they are secretly copying what they've seen on here 😂
How do you choose what paint color and brand to use? Especially when I have a brown metallic car... thank you
I use www.paintgear.co.uk paint
Kind of you! Thank you. @@cvrpov
You need to do a better job editing. Turn down the video column so we can hear voice over.
It was absolutley fine on my editor/computer. Unfortunately it didnt translate in the final vidoe for everyone else. My expertise is repair work, not videos.
Could this work using a drill like you have in another vid?
Technically yes. It will be quite Time consuming however.
The contrast on dark coloured paints is remarkable. What about a silver metallic BMW front bumper?
Silver is not a great colour to do most things on unfortunately
Dr. Color Chip or TouchUp RX for the DIYer.....
www.paintgear.co.uk it your in the UK 🇬🇧
Thanks. But you clarify what you send over the polisher when it was on please? Couldn't make it out. Thanks once again for these videos. Going to tackle our cars which has lots of chips. Done over 120k miles.
Excellent channel thanks - One thing if possible, when you applied more paint the second time with your finger, how much time do you wait before using the cutting compound?
What about prep? Wipe down with rubbing alcohol or something? Need to make sure the paint will stay stuck…right? (dunno)
Very good job! How long this work will last? I m curius because there is no lacquer
Seems to hold up pretty well.
Couldn’t hear if you said don’t use DA?
Rotary is needed to remove the excess paint
When you say 'solvent basecoat' what do you mean? I've a black Jag with a small green metallic. Wondering what I'd ask for at tge auto parts store? Thanks
i guess you have access to thicker paint than we do here in the US - I'm not a pro but the 3 places I've gone to for solvent paint, it's all much thinner than what you're using.
Perhaps they are thinning it down! If you leave some in a cup or tin with the lid off it should thicken up if it has been thinned
You just can't argue with results such as what you have here. Thank you for sharing your expertise.
Can't hear your commentry over the polisher
Yep sorry
What? I can’t hear you. Moving on…
Just the buffing bit
that is just amazing content az i allways say stunning work great channel great work fairplay bro you are just a legend on what you do and shair to all on youtube
Kian your support is always appreciated man
Could hear you perfectly well they may need a hearing test .
Could you do a video on a car with a deep to minor scratch on the door
I have a friend with a Renault Cleo highbred iron blue I would like to try this technique.
I have a black car
If I order your cutting compound and your black touch up paint am I able to do my repair?
I might buy a buff machine as well on top.. and some sand paper , I don't need the whole repair kit or do I?
Surprised the paint wasent just buffed off without any clear added after? Hmmm...
What do you do if you'd like to use this very impressive (thank you!) technique on a light scratch that has been 'touched up' already?
Napa makes a mild solvent called Kleenzeasy , great for removing the excess.
Can you explain how the base coat doesn't rub off when polishing? And how it ends up glossy ?
Base coat always needs to be sealed in with clear ,
Is this just a method of hiding things for a very short time ?
Do you mix in some of the clear when smearing the paint over the scratches? I've got some solvent based for my car but it came in two small bottles, base and clear.
i guess this only is possible if there is no clearcoat.
This car was clearcoated but the method is without clearcoat
Your videos are really helpful and the end results are awesome 👌
Need to speak louder when buffing. Can't hear what you're saying hardly.
Enjoyed the video although struggled to hear you when the polisher was operating. I must say, this would give me confidence to have a go. Is this the same process for the metallic paint options?
Yes I have just done a video on a bentley using a similar method shown here on metallic Paint.
Does this hold well without clear coat on top ?
Absolutely outstanding video tutorial, my black BMW is exactly like this, see the paint you use, is it and specific type of paint as I heard u mention solvent? I know it's needs to be the same paint code but what should I ask for and where can I get it from? As I fancy taking a pint at this myself, I've polished the car but the bumper really does wind me up, thanks in advance buddy 👍🏻
Edit: found it, how much would I need to do a full front bumper like the one in this video?
You can get away with using just black on black cars. The eye struggles to pick up any difference.
Can I use a paint stick from the dealer. Do you use clear on these repairs. If you know of where to buy paint like that in Canada please let me know. Thanks for posting
Brilliant video..is the paint just the one you buy for touch up? or something else?
Common sense tells me that when you use sanding paper on the car (metal or bumper) the paint goes off. So, how can polish replace the paint that was sanded off? What am I missing here?
Great video.
Only issue was the ending.
Those were not stone chips. They was compound deposits on the vehicle.
Stone chips don't leave bright white marks like that. Good try.
Either way. Good product, and its use seems necessary.
They were stone chips.
The paint clogs as it is not dry . It needs 24hrs to dry
Next time leave it for 24-48 hours ( can still drive car ) and then do this
Trust me it’s a lot easier and a far better result
Make the water soapier and see the difference it makes
How long after the paint is applied do you wait to polish with compound?... also how much pressure are you putting
Love your videos! Could you also make one with regards to how to repair deep scratch and chips on a tricoat?
Hi there !
Could you please let me know when I could get Tesla pearl white solvent based touch up paint ?
GREAT RESULTS... Just wish I could hear what was being said. Much of the video past 4:50 in inaudible. because the volume of the machine polisher far louder than the voiceover. :-(
Sorry about that. Probably just waffling on about how people don't like to wait so long in videos these days so i usually fast forward the polishing stage... so you probably didn't miss too much 😅
Greatly apreciate your videos. Thank you buddy ❤
Glad you like them!
No needed clear coat on top of the paint?
Not in this method
Hey mate, love your work. Can you do a video of touch up on white pearl car please.
