    Beautiful bike man, I wish I had a surron

    • @Andre-Mostert
      @Andre-Mostert  ปีที่แล้ว

      I had the surron for just over a year and really liked the bike. A good price for kit you are getting. But I did find that during the winter months using it to go to work and back I was having water ingress problems. I would get cutouts and stutters. Best to keep the switch gear and battery covered when standing outside.

    The R/S is like the reverse mode that I have seen talked about by another person. push it in and allows the rider to get out of a bind without having to get off the bike and push.

    • @Andre-Mostert
      @Andre-Mostert  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Awesome, thank you for the tip. It does make sense as some times the electric motor can hold the bike back when there is no power. I will have to go and check it out.

      @@Andre-Mostert I don't own one so just what I think I heard while watching a video on some of the electric bikes. The person didn't show the button to push but it was located on the handle bar from the sounds of it.

      @@Andre-Mostert yeah I have the light bee. Idk if I'd just be better off modding it to a 72vbac4000 for quite a bit less or just selling it and saving for a storm bee. Hard choice 😅

    • @Andre-Mostert
      @Andre-Mostert  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did not record the whole ride otherwise it would have been too long and boring. But the stock tyre did feel good for the short time I was on the bike. When I bought my BMW Scrambler and went out on some knobby tyres I felt it instantly that is was not to be leaning around any corners. But point taken. Thank you for watching and the comment its much appreciated. The bike has some really nice punch. Think the range might be a problem for some people.

    I own a Sur Ron X and very much enjoy it. My problem with the Storm is that it weighs within 10lbs of my KTM 525 EXC. Because of the weight and seat height, my Sur Ron X is much more fun to ride around camp and in the woods.

    • @speedbird737
      @speedbird737 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you're comparing apples to oranges - you should be comparing the Storm to your KTM - the Sur Ron X is like a kids bike the Storm and Ktm are dirt bikes for big boys and girls

    • @Andre-Mostert
      @Andre-Mostert  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would also add to that. This was the reason I bought the Light Bee over a bigger bike is that its so small and so much more fun for get up and go. On the Storm its full bike size. The Light Bee is more awesome e-MTB or trails bike. Allot of power but its also a good bit of money.

      I think there are a massive wait on this one as Surron is focusing on the Light Bee and this one is at most of the sites on pre-order with no fixed idea of delivery times. This also with the shortages can be a bit of time. But then they can also fine tune the bike while we wait. Thanks for watching

    Thx for the detailed video. Do you know if they will have an MX version that is similar to the performance of an Alta? The bike as is would not be able to handle a standard MX track. At best, trails and enduro type riding similar to the KTM eXC Freeride.

    • @Andre-Mostert
      @Andre-Mostert  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far I understand from the speaking to the dealer is that they want to get this model out first and see how it does then looks at the full offroad version. Sort of the same they did with the SurRon light bee. You get the road and offroad version. But as you say more enduro and trails

    Really good video I am weighing up this or the zero ds 14.4 which has a lot more range but is very heavy...any thoughts on which one? I can get the Storm for £5.5k and the DS for just over £7k for but it has 13k miles on it, really torn??!

    • @Andre-Mostert
      @Andre-Mostert  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh man, this video is just a quick ride really to get a feel for the bike. I had the DSR and like the bike but it was for me too a basic bike for the money at that time. The Zero bikes are much more grown up and has all the bits to make sure it can handle everything the road and weather can throw at it where the Storm and the Surron struggle a bit with weatherproofing, well at least here in the UK. If you can get a DS with the charge tank option then you have a great bike to give you solid miles and faster charging. I sold the DSR just because it had the slow charging and the range was just not good enough for my riding. The charge tank option is the key to get that 30min top up to get going again. The Storm Bee is more for a trail bike where you drop this on the trailer and drive to a location. Ride and have fun and drop it back on the trailer and lug it home. The range is also very little compared to the DS. Hope this helps.

  • @pikachus5m166
    @pikachus5m166 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Now that there's a huge modding scene for the Light Bee, with bikes more than doubling in power and perfornance, does that also apply to the Storm ? Can see it being a decent supermoto.

    • @Andre-Mostert
      @Andre-Mostert  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes the light bee's are running away with all the hop ups you can get. I think this is also the reason they have not had the time to focus on this model and try to bring it to market. Its a nice bike and it rides like a small supermoto. I think the only thing that is going to get the clients to wait is the range. But then again if you going to use it on a track and you have a trailer then its spot on.

      I think allot of people is going to want to get something else out of the bike. I am not a MX rider and dont know how much a trimmed down MX 250 or 125cc weight but looking at it from the other side its a massive step up from the Liight Bee and it feels so light and manageable for me that is 178cm tall. I think it might also be geared towards guys that want to put this on a trailer and go to a track and just have fun. The range is not for long days in the saddle. I think if I had access to some backyard green lanes where I can get 2-3 hours into forest trails that would be awesome. Thanks for the comment.

    How does the Storm Bee compare to fuel powered 250/450 dirt bikes or even your Triumph Triple powerwise?

    • @Andre-Mostert
      @Andre-Mostert  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The electric power of these bikes are where they shine. I had a Zero DSR and its very much the same feel when delivering the power. It does not have the same amount of power as the DSR but the electric deliver the same off the line punch. The kicker with the electric bikes currently is the range and the not too fast charging. If you live close to an area you can go out and ride then this is spot on or if you have a bike trailer where you can trailer the bike too it would be good. But if you dont have that and you need to ride to your trail you might find the range too short.
      I think the 450's would be faster and my Street Triple R is also a bit more all round power. This Storm Bee tops out at 70mph where the other bikes can go more. Not the same punch off the line compare to the electric bikes.
      Hope this makes sense and helps. Thanks for watching.

    • @ChondoTonga
      @ChondoTonga 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Makes a lot of sense. I am just in a dilemma to pick one up of just get a WR450F. I used to have a WR motard which I rode everywhere pretty much (80% road 20% dirt) before it got stolen and I loved the thing.
      I thought getting the Storm was gonna be a more future proof option especially seeing that it doesn't need oil changes/valve adjustments etc.
      You are right about the range though, it's a tough situation to be in 😅

    • @Andre-Mostert
      @Andre-Mostert  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is super true. But for me the kicker is the range. If the electric bikes can up the range and also include in the price a fast charger then I will be back. They still have a bit of work to do with the price too. Good luck and that WR450F is a very nice machine. If anything goes wrong you can get some spares and support on that Yamaha.

      The quote 60miles range @30mph but that does not really work in day to do riding. The bike is more of a back of a trailer, go to the track and ride for 2 hours. Plug in or boost charge it for another few laps. They quote a 4 hour charge time but I did not get time to test that. If that is the case then its doable at the track.
      Range - City 60 miles

    • @Andre-Mostert
      @Andre-Mostert  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes this is the problem with the bikes, they are awesome but the UK weather really needs some good solid weatherproofing. I covered the top of my light bee with a tesco bag when it was standing at the office in the rain for the whole day. Just to get around the water ingress problem I had. But when its dry they are awesome. We can only hope that they design the bikes with better weatherproofing. Thanks for the comment.

      This is currently the only build available and from what I understand but there will be a road and offroad version available when they can start getting the bikes out to clients. From what I understand they are also suffering from the global shortages. I just hope we can start seeing more of them.

    YZ 125 weighs less and has more power. Probably cost less too. Husqvarna makes an awesome electric motocross bike and Kawasaki has announced they will too. Why buy a no name newcomber with no proven track record. You think that thing can hold a candle to Yamaha and Kawasaki on a track with all their decades of suspension development? Be one thing if the surron was $2000 or something but it’s not. Pass..

    • @Andre-Mostert
      @Andre-Mostert  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What you are saying is so true. It needs to come in at a really good price for people to spend that much money. Also as you say if the main brands step it up you know where clients are going to go if they want spare, repairs and so on. The bikes need to come down in price and they need to be well sorted to compare if the bigger brands starts getting into electric bikes. Thanks for the comment.

      Sur Ron has been making these electric bikes for like 5 years or more with very good success. This is just an iteration from their previous lower caliber electric bikes that are $4,199. Did you know of the Alta Motorsports brand of street/moto/trail that went out of business located in California due to mismanagement of funds and likely California sky-high taxes. Their electric bikes, their branded full motocross bike competed with 2 stroke 250cc and 450cc gas machines but was a better fit for the 250cc motocross bikes as far as out-right whp. One of the pro motocross riders in 2019 competed with the Alta in the RedBull Straight Rythmn event and got to the finals. The electric Alta motocross bike cost about $11,000 USD and the prices would have come down in time if they had/were able to stay in business. th-cam.com/video/ViHaPiTsMvI/w-d-xo.html

      Wow watched that video and man that bike has some awesome power. Looks also like its got much more oomph than the Storm. But then you would need to compare this two bikes on the same sort of track. They have the right idea I just wish they would hurry up and start making them and get them into the hand of guys like that. Would be awesome for the brand. Thanks for the pointers.

    I don’t understand why people spend so much on electric bikes the tech isn’t even there yet you’d get 30miles range weighed 220lbs unless your a child or a women then you’d probably get 60miles and even then you have to wait 4hours to charge no thanks Petrol bikes are way way cheaper and take 2 seconds to fill and your ready to go

    • @Andre-Mostert
      @Andre-Mostert  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is so true, but the tech is moving forward just at a slower pace. For this one it would be great for someone that lives close to a track and want to have fun on a electric bike with loads of punch of the line. Compared to say me that does not stay close to a track or any place to ride it. Does not make sense to me but there are loads of people out there that it can work for and they have the cash to spend on it. But they have some work ahead. Thanks for the comment.
