I knew they weren't human and they'd found a dead Earth when the guy's light hit the mess of re-bar in the dark just past the entrance... Very cool story. No violence, no stupid romance, no explosions or movie-long battle-chases, just story. Loved this.

Been watching a lot of these short science fiction clips. Most of which are horrorific/deranged. But this one was pleasant and euphoric. The concept of another sentient species discovering the remains of our society is rather stunning and awe-inspiring.
Very well done and quite a twist. I first saw the objects all over the ground and thought they were skulls, then they said eggs and I went right with the story, then I was surprised when they were skulls.
You have no idea how my times I cried watching this. It's jus that moment my tears just came out nonstop. That moment when i realise humanity ended. The real ending. I saw this sci-fi film sometime in late 2013 and never forgot it. Very well made, memorable, high production values and an awesome twist at the end!! Great job,Dalang Films!! 6-9-2018
This could've been an hour and a half of two astronauts just trading barbs while they worked and it still would've been a better movie than most of what is coming out of Hollywood these days.
That would make a great movie. Shit-talk in Space. A couple of astronauts, digging holes, singing songs and pondering the Universe. "Faaaaaaackin' 'ell, woodya look at the view! The Flat Earth Society Boys are feelin' kinda blue. The World is quite demonstrably a big, blue, faaacking sphere. The Flat Earth Society boys are cryin' in their beer".
This is a great short film. The music does it when the explorer sees what he's picked up is a skull and we see the explorer is not an earthling human. The music is what adds the emotional impact. Well thought out and not low budget or at least the production values have been obtained somehow. Just really good film.
What an amazing twist. That was addictive to watch. It didn’t need to be any longer. It captured all the suspense and the surprise just perfectly. Top marks for that👌🏼
Very well done. I've watched this one several times now, and the only conclusion I can come to is that these visitors are the distant descendants of humanity discovering their long forgotten homeworld.
Or, they are a humanoid species that evolved on a semi nearby planetoid, and during exploration, they came across the remnants of humanity on earth, which had been devastated millions of years prior, as it would take this long for earth's atmosphere to completely disapate and the surface to end up similar to that of the moon or mars.
@@randyhutchinson9910 Primates. But I can't seem to make Terry's scenario work in my mind. Howzabout: both Earth and another nearby planet were seeded with the same "germs of life" from a comet or something and evolved similarly enough that primates became the dominant and most technologically advanced species on each, sharing a remote common ancestry. Homo sapiens destroyed Earth with nuclear war and winter, or global ecosystem cascade effects triggered by climate change, or a bolide hit, or Yellowstone blew again. Homo nearbyus hasn't suffered such a fate, but seeing as how they are prospecting for fossil fuels, they are just a decade away from the same fate.
It's been ages since I'd seen this. Such a good story and is very meaningful if you listen carefully to what they say about their world, and then what they find.

SUPERB! This must be one of the very best DUST films out there. Beautifully done. I suggest you don't read the reviews that contain Spoilers, this needs to be enjoyed with a clear mind.
What? In what age do you live? It's posted in 480p, blurry as hell, a huge bar on top and bottom and they screwed up the screen ratio so now those guys look like short fat astronauts. I mean, it couldn't have looked worse... Seriously dude?
From the opening dialogue, the twist was predicted almost immediately. Same type of culture ends up doing what elon musk is trying to do (and will fail to do) on Mars.
Fascinating short film; thanks for sharing it here on TH-cam! It certainly seems at first to be future astronauts exploring the moon or a similar world. The mention of fossil fuels, however, reveals that there was once life in the distant past, since we all learned in science class about how fossil fuels are formed. The total absence of atmosphere and the disintegrating condition of the concrete in the underground structure all suggest an extremely long time has passed. The title _Unearthed_ first seems to suggest that the explorers belong to a society that has left earth a long time ago. But when artifacts are discovered in the buried chamber, _unearthed_ takes a new meaning. If the catastrophe was far enough back in the past, then the face we see could still be human (as a few have suggested already). Both meanings of the title could therefore apply.
It became obvious that they werent human towards the end.. Nobody from Earth would have approached 'strange looking eggs' in a dusty chamber after all the 'Alien' films out there.
ironically,,we were mined by aliens thousands of yrs ago,,for gold & mercury..gold was for radiation protection, mercury was fuel/electrical circuits.ect..look up sumerian tablets..they mined mainly in s africa..as we do now..fiction is realer than reality..most 60,s sci fi films are coming tru..soylent green,,was a good one..bit of ending like this one..
Wow, I'm really hoping that film making of this quality signals the end of the Hollywood monopoly on 'blockbusters'. I really hope this sort of movie heralds a new age of story telling rather than cynical exploitation and bottom line film making.
Ok, I didn't go past the first 3 minutes so maybe it got better, doubt it, but maybe, so first of all, hasn't this story already been told, several times by MUCH, much better actors, not to mention, scripts? All I needed to see was the little doll astronaut "flying" back to the ship, no movement at all? Human beings are only that still when dead and only during rigor mortis are we stiff as a board! Alien, best ever sci-fi! On the lower scale, but not the bottom, Vin Diesel's Riddick, but hell, to be perfectly honest, he could just read the phone book and I'd love it. "Gravity", as of late, was the worst sci-fi film made with huge stars, at least in my opinion and that's truly not a high bar to climb over! I love George Clooney and Sandra Bullock, just as much as the rest of the world, but it was a hyped up movie, with not much hype! He needed to pay for the wedding, I get it. She needed to stash away for Louie, I get it. But, damn, this is awful. I'm so thankful I love to read!!
Robin Addis-Vaughn I'm sorry but you lost me not even half way through your wall of text... your points were all over the place so bad that most of your comment didn't even make any sense. And I'm sorry but if you didn't watch it all the way through, then you don't really have any right to criticize it. If you saw the end, you would realize it was meant to make you think it was just another drum-ho humans exploring space for whatever reason film, but you would also realize it's not just that. You would realize it was so much more than that. You know what they say about never judging a book by its cover...
Megan Creech sorry you couldn't keep up with my thought process. I do jump from point to point, I readily admit it. Its simply the way my brain works and it has served me well. I'll put this on my to watch later list and maybe I'll get around to watching it and seeing something different. As far as talking about "Gravity" with Clooney & Bullock, I was responding to Ali Servan's comment about Hollywood's monopoly on blockbuster hits, that really shouldn't have been made, I was joking about the reasons they made the movie, but money usually is what gets big name stars in a movie like "Gravity". :)
Ali Ahadi I believe that is what is stated above and I'm not correcting anyone, so yes 2 or 3 minutes into it, I didn't like it. I didn't say anything negative to people who do watch the entire clip, I said I could tell it wasn't for me. Haven't you ever been flipping the channels on tv, come across something you thought might be interesting and a couple minutes into it, you say, nah and start flipping channels again. Same thing! At last for me.

Yeah my second time watching it... basically forgot I'd seen it and by the time I realized it was too late to back out. Love the cheesey 1950's style dialogue.
I had an inkling as to what would be found when one of the explorers commented on there's some sort of a structure down here.....then went on to show a doll etc. Then the title 'Unearthed' told me what I'd already guessed. Brilliant ending!
Great production values, a solid script and a memorable ending. Thanks so much for producing this and uploaidng it. You guys did a great job and should be proud. :) I'm definitely going to check out your other works!

@Nathan Miller i think you are too optimistic about future. Oxygen on earth doesn’t come a lot from trees but essentially from oceans. We know now that great extinction came when seas became acidic from volcanoes and all was killed on earth by loss of oxygen. Now our oceans are almost acidic as in these times but because of human activities. This fact was well understood only last year. Scientists are pessimist on our ability to reverse the processus in time. Our future is not so good now. We’ll never terraform another planet for humanity, we’ ll never have time to clone eyes and so we’ll be dead in a very short time because our beloved blue pale dot becomes exhausted, as we lose our time with greedy presidents and stupid belligerent chiefs of our countries. Futur will not be for us.
@@murielvaillancourt3855 Well, more of the oxygen comes from the sea, but aren't more efforts being made to fix that? I do have faith that we will eventually pick up the slack. Or a solar flare 199 years from now will knock out any tech that isn't in a faraday cage and we'll end up stopping emissions altogether. Who knows?
Wow this is a very good movie short, way better than many full length movies I've seen in a theater. Even now, 12 years later it is a stark warning of where we are headed if we don't watch where we are going in today's world and that's without putting any politics in this movie. VERY WELL DONE.

Why not abandon Hollywood in favor of these productions then? That is largely what I have chosen to do--no cable TV for more than three years now and haven't bought a new release DVD since "Avatar" almost a dozen years ago. Hollywood's crap got old and boring even before they mostly became Leftist idiots who seem to think they have something valid to say about the way our society should function.
Millions of years from now our descendants that have traveled across time and space could come back to an Earth just like this. It will happen sooner or later.
Great effort! I was as fooled as everyone else was! My wife and I laughed so hard all the way through because of the "crack-up" dialog and drawn out theme, and the whole time we couldn't figure out what it was all about! But we're so happy that we continued to watch! We thought that it seemed like a Twilight Zone episode. Doesn't it? Seriously! The Twilight Zone always had a perceptual twist at the end like this one. Remember the episode where the beautiful woman was recovering from facial reconstructive surgery, and you never see anyone's face (not the doctors or the nurses, either) until the very end. It was only then, when they remove her bandages and reveal her beautiful features, that they cry out how hideous she "still" is! That's when they show you their faces for the first time, and they are the hideous ones! I love that episode! But this is the same kind of short film, in my opinion. That's what I saw! I applaud them for taking us on this "trip". It was more than just funny! It was Hilarious! The end was a bit more sobering, though, but still a very fun time! You just have to laugh at all of the laughable stuff! That's my suggestion! Have fun!

This was amazing! I really liked the space suit design, that the helmet isn't separated from the torso-part, and the shuttle is nice too! And the story is great. I tought it'll turn into alien, with thoose "eggs", but the twis was very suprising and clever! Ah, man, give all awards to this film!
the reason the helmets were different is because they had no necks !!!
I knew they weren't human and they'd found a dead Earth when the guy's light hit the mess of re-bar in the dark just past the entrance... Very cool story. No violence, no stupid romance, no explosions or movie-long battle-chases, just story. Loved this.
"no stupid romance"? Man, I was really hoping for a bit of it on it action at the end.
I figured they found some lost civilization I just didn't know it was earth! I figured it was gonna be real good when they found that evidence of civilization. I just didn't know it was gonna be a really cool twist!
It has all elements of a short story: character, setting, conflict, plot, theme, and above all, a complete story with an unexpected ending... Kudos!
Been watching a lot of these short science fiction clips. Most of which are horrorific/deranged. But this one was pleasant and euphoric. The concept of another sentient species discovering the remains of our society is rather stunning and awe-inspiring.
FOR REAL MAN
Nice touch humanizing the aliens. It makes what they unearthed that much more shocking.
Someday this is fact we are not forever. Maybe another 3 or 4 thousand years or millions but this is the end. I am sorry for confusion. Just it made me cry. Thank you for an amazing masterpiece.
@@ianyoung7077 That's exactly how I imagined it.
I bid 39 seconds...
Its good to know that aliens will call each other "buddy" a lot
This is a great short film. The music does it when the explorer sees what he's picked up is a skull and we see the explorer is not an earthling human. The music is what adds the emotional impact. Well thought out and not low budget or at least the production values have been obtained somehow. Just really good film.
12 years ago!!!!! Still a great movie. Thank you.
They did a very good job of concealing a classic sci-fi twist until the end.
Homo nearbyus hasn't suffered such a fate, but seeing as how they are prospecting for fossil fuels, they are just a decade away from the same fate.
scrubjay93 excellent perspective, I love your view on this subject, actually, I'm afraid, you may be right
@@scrubjay93 Although I thought he looked more reptilian than primate...
That's exactly what I interpreted in this short film.
It's been ages since I'd seen this. Such a good story and is very meaningful if you listen carefully to what they say about their world, and then what they find.
What a great twist you put in this one! Fantastic, is too mild a word to describe it!
It was very touching, in a very honest bit of poignancy...
Thank you!
Oh, fuck you. If this Shyamalan-level plot twist impresses you, your IQ is below average. Like Mid Night's twists, this was predictable garbage.

Excellent Work, Great Story, with a thinking person's ending.
Simply Amazing.
SUPERB! This must be one of the very best DUST films out there. Beautifully done. I suggest you don't read the reviews that contain Spoilers, this needs to be enjoyed with a clear mind.
Excellent quality upload of a great sci-fi short. THANK YOU.
What? In what age do you live? It's posted in 480p, blurry as hell, a huge bar on top and bottom and they screwed up the screen ratio so now those guys look like short fat astronauts. I mean, it couldn't have looked worse...
Seriously dude?
Enjoyable lil gem, right amount of suspense, characters believable, good effects and cool storyline with a twist, who cares if the science isn't perfect.
That was clever. Nice twist. Very Outer Limits and Twilight Zone,
You are right. The one definitely has Twilight Zone vibes.
From the opening dialogue, the twist was predicted almost immediately.
Same type of culture ends up doing what elon musk is trying to do (and will fail to do) on Mars.
YaYa Man , Agreed, yea they got me on that one. Wasn't expecting that!! Lol
I could smell the "twist" from 5th minute of the film.
Still enjoyable.
YaYa Man the earth is flat. So luckily this can't happen
Best 22 minutes of my life. Now I need part 2.
Love this guys, Thanks.
It became obvious that they werent human towards the end..
Nobody from Earth would have approached 'strange looking eggs' in a dusty chamber after all the 'Alien' films out there.

Robin Addis-Vaughn uh... if you only watched the first three minutes then you kind of didn't see 80% of the short film.
I was on the edge of my seat in anticipation wondering what he would find, and Oh My God! What a fantasic ending. This was true fun watching this short movie, who needs 2 hours of Hollywood movies. I'm saving this one.

+Lorenzo Gheorghe Nah, it wouldn't work as a longer movie. It's just the right length as it is.

I have watched this maybe 15 times or more over the years, one of my most favourite short sci fi films.
IF ONLY STANLEY KUBRICK COULD CHECK THIS MOVIE !!!
GREAT WORK GUYS.
Is this the missing 22 minutes from Eyes Wide Shut?
Clever title, smart plot. The dialogue felt stilted and at times unnatural, but the mention of ‘eggs’ was a nice bit of misdirection.
+Leigh Lundin They did look more like eggs than anything else though. They certainly at first did not look like skulls.
I was at first put off by the dialogue, but after the final reveal that we were not watching humans it fits the story.
I thought the dialogue was fine for the characters that I took them to be.
Really? I saw it coming a mile away. This video was good, but far too predictable - its very title gave it away.
The dialogue was HORRIBLE! No excuse for that, whether it's aliens or humans speaking.
So much good short movies. They really should make MOVIES!
The best Sci-Fi I've watched on TH-cam. I only wish there was more. Like a part 2
This was great. Also, the main character sounds like Hawkeye from MASH, so bonus points.
you too? The whole time I was thinking "Now what is Hawk getting himself into?"
Captain Cough- Hawkeye is a flat earther. And you people should realize that the earth is flat
He reminded me of Clooney in Gravity
First thing I noticed too!
I thought both of them were hawkeye and honeycut going back and forth
I would like to see a follow up to this short. Very well done.
Love the twist at the end . Who'd of thought these two would be aliens . And the heads looked like eggs until he turned it right around and whipped his helmet screen to reveal both himself as an Alien and the eggs as human sculls of which he still has no idea what it is .
Fantastic story and animation .❤️💯

This short film has the essence of X Minus One. I really enjoyed watching the entire 22 minutes. Would love to see more! Big sci-fi fan!
I'd love to see some X Minus One stories put to film.
"You'll get whatever's coming to you" Ripley said that exact thing to Parker when he was griping about the bonus situation.
This was awesome. Up to the revelation the the explorer was not human, really thought they were. It was only when i saw the skull and then the newspaper. Awesome cinematography. I love it. This gem is why we watch movies

I am glad it wasn't mankind versus aliens again
From the beginning I was wondering, "can you really 'unearth' something if it's not on Earth? Wouldn't you unmoon or unmars stuff?" and then, as if to mock me, the whole thing was on Earth.
I just thought if "earth" as a synonym for "dirt".
@@murielvaillancourt3855 It's not just greed leaders. Unfortunately, to some extent, various countries often get the governments we deserve.
Perhaps, in the future, there are many planets called Earth?

Finally, a half-way decent sci-fi short film (emphisis on half-way decent though). It's like the Dust short films, but a slight smidge better.
Of all the sci-fi shorts, this is the first one the dialog was natural sounding. It also wasn't cheesy or flat. It was refreshing.

I wonder how many of us scream Noooo don't touch the eggs! Lol
Well done piece!
Fantastic. Interesting ending - Eggs.
Have fun!
That episode would be "Eye of the Beholder" (1960).
I agree with fellow commenters, this is one of the best shorts I've ever seen......all aspects right on target. tomato meter: 10
