I think it’s so interesting when you mentioned the walk in closet; for years I wanted a huge girly walk-in closet/ office. I recently finally got the chance and now I find it obnoxious for me and my life. It’s funny how social media influences us to think we need certain things.. like a new purse every week or a huge room to hold all our stuff! I love seeing unboxings and closet tours but I don’t need it in my life.
I agree about the large closet being obnoxious. I like luxury but having too much, too many choices is overwhelming. I’m not a celebrity or a socialite, so I don’t need that kind of space for just clothes, bags and shoes. It’s a blessing to have that space, but an ever bigger blessing to realize you don’t need to fill it up.
I love decluttering too and glad I did bc it made moving so much easier for us recently. Few years ago I did envy ppl having a walk in closet with 50 bags at one point.. but now looking back I realise its very silly and I am happy to settle with a small collection of less than 10, with sufficient space for them in my closet, which I share with hb.
Love your idiology for spending less and do appreciate and really uee all of you belongings. I used to love shopping for handbags and wallets, but now I try so hard to downsize my possessions, especially handbags and wallets. Thanks for distributing the very good attitude and practical performances of blending minimalism into our shopping performance with flexible and relaxing attentions.
I’m glad you mentioned about safety issues. Cause I got rob, not that long ago at the airport. I believe because I was carrying designer purse. So be alert of your surrounding and make sure you have an insurance on your Hermès. Eileen, love your channel👍
Over the years, I’ve downsized from 36 designer handbags (which included 10+ different luxury brands) to currently only 6 designer handbags (all from the same brand). As you said, Eileen, what a weight lifted off my shoulders! Importantly, I truly love all of my current bags and it’s so much easier to use 6 (vs 36) on a rotational basis. Your philosophy resonates for me on many different levels (not just bags). Thank you for the videos you produce and keep up the positive work!
I've recently started reading lots of books on minimalism, & decluttered my place so much. Feels so much lighter! I've stopped the endless shopping & only buying items that need to be replaced, & it has been wonderful so far. I used to always think I needed more to happy, but turns out I already have enough. The minimalism mindset has made me more grateful & appreciative.
YES!!!! This video says it all! I couldn't agree more.....when I watch all these "influencers" (hate that term), they have SO much and it gives me anxiety just watching their videos and seeing how big their bag collections really are. To me, it is SO ridiculous, there is NO way they use all those bags. Why have them? It is really redundant. Thank you so much for all your videos....because of you, I realize I DO NOT need so much and it makes me SO SO much happier.!~
And when those same people do a bag review that includes wear and tear I’m baffled. Using a bag a couple of days a month (if that!) for a year is not true wear and tear in my opinion.
Funny you should say this: I just realized I do not like watching certain vloggers anymore, because they give me anxiety. Sometimes, if they just keep unwrapping box after box, it is even a bit sickening. Especially if they claim it's all terribly environmentally friendly, because some of the boxes were made of recycled cardbord, lol. Enough already!
@@CarolinaZ501 I realized many years ago when I was shopping and purchasing so many things all the time, I was trying to fill a void of some sort. Now that I recognize this, I do not feel the need to shop and spend and WANT all these luxurious things. I have PLENTY and need to use what I do have. I am much happier this way to have less and less anxiety for it as well.
I’m so happy that I didn’t go too crazy on my love for designers. I have good amount of shoes and handbags. Nothing overwhelming although I tend to wear lots of flat and trainers since I have a toddler and I hardly go places that require me to wear heels. You’re the reason why I toggle between luxury haul videos often and then Minimalism videos such as yours. Because it keeps me grounded to not make that expensive, unnecessary purchase. Because of those haul videos I all of a sudden have purchased 5 expensive LV SLGS this year alone and the checkout basket remained full as did my “wish list”. Now I can’t stop watching still but I remind myself of how good it feels to know my money is best spent on a necessity or saved for an emergency. So now I just think 🤔 I have my curated little (but plentiful” collection of SLGs) and don’t need much more. It’s really curbed my appetite for excess.
I am totally on your side. I was such a shopaholic for 20 years and finally I learned that I do not have to shop constantly. You only need essentials for your life to look nice and clean, not a huge closet full of clothes, shoes, bags and even jewerly. I am very proud of myself and I am so happy for myself.
Same feeling. I watch those with massive luxury collection because everytime I watch them, I feel thankful that I don’t have that kind of collection. I used to dream of having that kind of closet, but now, I feel uneasy looking at bags that are out of style, that looks tacky with all the prints, logos and colors. Thankful that I found your channel. My goal now is to have a minimal collection that I really love and will be able to use for the years to come.
I have been watching your Videos for 2-3 years now & I really Love how your sense of Style & Priorities have evolved within that time. Mine have too! I'm completely in agreement with what you've been talking about lately concerning Downsizing & Minimalism Living. Hi Eileen, I really enjoy watching your videos because I share all your POV on luxury minimalism and intentional shopping. I used to be a shopaholic, consistently ticking off items on my luxury wish list. This pandemic changed a lot of things and after being forced to work from home for months made me think deeply about the purpose of our lives, and that we really don't need so many things to live happily. I started decluttering, selling, donating and reorganizing all my belongings after watching the Marie Kondo series on Netflix and reading her book, and I started to feel so much lighter and happier. The last (and ironically most difficult) mission for me now is to declutter and organise my work/personal emails, documents, all the random electronic files in my computer and phone.
It is always a good idea to declutter. Thank you for bringing up the security issue because it is definitely a big issue but not really talked about on youtube. I recently decluttered and I have less than 5 bags in my closet now. I may move in the future as well and I don't want stuff to "weigh" me down. I still love beautiful things and shopping but I want to be more intentional about my wishlist and stick just buying one luxury item this year with my low buy year in 2022. Wish me luck.
Thanks for sharing. I just want to add one more…. SPACE. I am from Hong Kong and space is very expensive. I started following you because I want to be more mindful about my purchases as it is occupying a lot of space that could be used in a better way. I have cabinets that after de cluttering, I didn’t need anymore. So I was able to put a very cozy and relaxing lounge chair in it’s place 😊
I was able to sell some clothes I had no more use for and grateful for that. A couple more rounds I think of selling and donating what I can. It makes sense to not have a whole lot of stuff. One is likely to forget about things they have. Thanks for sharing.
Eileen, thank you so much for sharing your inner thoughts and advice on luxury goods and how social media and peer pressure can always destroy us without us realising it. I'm so glad you have found inner peace and don't feel the need to prove to anyone your worth just by what you carry or wear. and it's so true - the best things in life are free, and health is the true wealth. wishing you well ♥️
One of my dearest friend's dad is currently terminally ill. The last time I saw him, he was so full of life and energetic. I now remind myself to never ever take my health for granted xx
It is hard letting go of luxury handbags. I really fear that 3-5 yrs from now, these items will not be affordable anymore and I am still trying to build the perfect amount of handbags for every occasion. But decluttering items I don't use it is a must for me.
I love to declutter too! I usually to it once to twice a year. It makes me feel less stress when I don’t see so much things in my wardrobe. I also enjoy doing some calligraphy which calms and relax me. A happy life is a well balance of everything!
This is so interesting. I have travelled for ten years and just settled down, had my first child and the second one on the way. I have never owned any items of value since I’ve always appreciated experiences much more than physical things, and I haven’t even had a place to store physical belongings - until now. After saving up the amount of money I need to support myself and my family for three years, I have finally started investing a bit in good quality handbags and clothes. To me, a bag collection of around five to seven handbags that will last for years and years is more than enough. I find it very fun, slowly choosing pieces, doing research and comparing brands. My rule of thumb is: if I’m still thinking about a bag six months after I first fall in love with it, I will go ahead and purchase it. That way only the things I really really enjoy will enter my collection. Most things actually fall of my wish list after a couple of months and the few things I have bought - like my dark green Celine Triomphe and my blue Bvlgari Serpenti bag - are very well used. I appreciate your videos because your perspective is so different from mine, yet your thought process is very similar to mine. Thank you!
Such an enviable position to be in. Can't wait to get there, where i have what i want in my collection and also gotten rid of everything I don't want. 💕💕
I love your videos as I have enjoyed revamping my life as we live in a tiny home. My closet has room & my dresser has room. I am only buying what I need. I made my first purchase this year only yesterday. Two new pair of jeans. The purchase was planned and as it was fun trying on other things I stood very focused and only bought the jeans. I am so happy with my purchase and I carefully priced brands, studied what I thought would look appropriate for my figure and then made a decision on a brand. One pair was on sale the other not, but they were so perfect I did not want to miss out items seem to be limited in some stores. 👖I am looking forward to adding some things for the SPRING/SUMMER time of year. THANK YOU for all of your positive videos.
I loved all your points, especially about safety and now having more time to enjoy other things, nature walks, personal care time. It all really connected with me. Thank you. You are an inspiration ♥️
that's exactly what I feel, I have around 5 bags in total, only the ones I use and love and what functions for my lifestyle, I have 2 kids, a business but I hear from "style mentors" that I have to invest in some trends, but I just no longer want to, there is too much work having a large wardrobe and worrying about how items lose their value and not being used I also taught myself not to express my personality through style anymore
so true what your were saying about your boy bag! Getting a really expensive bag and then not using it is heart breaking a bit, like the money you spent just is sitting there! I'm sort of having that happen with one of my bags that i dont use but just sort of look at and think "oh at least i have one"
I feel anxiety when I see large collections. I have moved around a lot and always feel I need to be able to walk out the door with a suitcase if needed. A bit warped thinking, but I feel more comfortable not having physical things weigh me down. I still enjoy high end pieces, but only those that I can use daily.
Thanks for another great video! I’m so impressed with the sense of peace you have found. I am nowhere close to this point but want to be. Could you possibly talk more about the specific steps you took to resist shopping when you were still tempted to do so? I understand your motivations from what you have said in previous videos. But what are your suggestions for those of us in the thick of it still who want to get out. Thanks!
Very sound advice! I completely agree about the liability aspect of our luxury items. I think It's all about balance, your comfort level at any given location and how you move. Great video Great insight💜
I feel recharged and refresh every time after a hike☺️ I’m considering selling some of my handbags but still not sure if this was a right move or I’d regret. Thanks for the advice and I’ll take process slowly.
Thankyou thankyou thankyou. Your videos are exactly what I need from a mindset perspective. I was just reminded by my insurance bill how much it costs to insure all my 'stuff'. It makes me want to sell some of my bags so I have less maintenance costs. I'm finding it difficult to let go though. So I'm going to look what I use over the next 6 months and then sell what I don't use.
Thank you for the reminder! I need this weekly! So far I have been good and have not shopped! I’m going to Hawaii soon and I really hope I don’t forget my goals. 🥶
@@ColourfulNoir shopping is tempting and dangerous there since tax is only 4% and a lot of the luxury houses give you additional discounts except for Chanel and Hermes. 🥶
I have sold 2 luxury pieces in the last 2 months as I didn't really need them. I am also looking to sell something else soon. Thanks for sharing as this is refreshing:)
I just let go of four handbags after lots of debate and waiting for the the right time sell. I got pretty lucky and was able to get my entire investment back, plus a small profit. I know that doesn't happen often! With the money I received, I am going to purchase one bag that I've been thinking about purchasing for over a year. This one bag will work SO much better in my wardrobe and with my lifestyle than the other four bags ever did. Less is definitely more ❤.
I can totally understand you! :) I also sold so many things from my wardrobe designer and non designer things and I just have 5 bags which make me so happy and some Beautiful jewellery pieces and with time whenever I want to purchase sth new I really think about what I really want and take my time :) I just became a doctor and have a son and realize that I don’t even have the time to wear everything I have so whenever I would want another bag I would sell one of my 5 to never go more than 5 :) and I also invest more into my skincare:)
You are the best!!!!! Thank you for making the balance with others influencer. I have stopped to watch them and i feel so relaxed. I am also in skincare.. i would love to know what is your skincare. What do you think of chanel lift cream, i love it, but I am scared i am paying for the brand. I would love to know your thoughts. Thank you again.
Great points! The one about letting go, being ready to let go is a challenging one for me. I know I have many things I don’t wear often or “enough”, like when you said, “at least I have them”, is how I feel…. How did you get to a place where you felt ok with moving forward in letting go and wanting less?
I have started downsizing last year. I plan on moving next year and living 25 years in this house, we have collected so much stuff. I am done with the books. Most of my things are gone that I no longer use or want. Next we have to work on the husband. I love living with almost nothing. I wish I did that years ago.
I embrace minimalism, we even live in a tiny house, and clutter makes me anxious. However I am too sentimental and tend to get attached to things because they are attached to a special memory or person. Even if I never use the item, and never plan to, I still have a hard time letting go. Could you do a video on tips for dealing with this issue?
I also preferred a curated small bag collection. I don't like to keep anything extra that i don't use but I have this Dior saddle style wallet that I bought preloved that I don't quite use cos it is a bit too large for most of my bags. I prefer to use my smaller wallet for practicability. I don't intend to sell this Dior wallet as I love the style.. To feed my obsession with bags, I choose to keep photos of the bags instead to look thru.. It is free and I feel that it's a collection too.. a collection of dream bag wardrobe pictures.. haha.. Silly as it sounds but it makes me feel happy without feeling stressed of having overwhelmed with a big bag collection which some are unused because of security reasons. I don't really like to declutter either cos I almost always lose money in the process, so I just buy what I think I would like to keep or use.
That's what I use Pinterest for. Similarly to you I save the pictures from (mostly fashion) items I like but from the first second know I won't ever buy - and I'm happy just looking at the pictures.
I’m at this point. My closet and wardrobe are full of handbags. I don’t use most of them. I keep thinking of sending them for a special occasion. I have figured out I like handheld bags and bucket bags. I really like the Polène brand bc their leather is awesome. I have been thinking of selling some bags and getting a vintage lady Dior or just saving my money for a rainy day. What’s the point of having 100 handbags if you can’t or won’t enjoy them.
Wise words as always Eileen. As I’ve gotten older (now in my late 50s) all I want is a simple life. I do love luxury and have only been collecting for around five years but I never wanted to have a huge collection. I’m trying to declutter my home and only keep the things I need and love. I’m allowing myself to buy luxury as it’s something I enjoy but also know that there’s a limit to how many I honestly will use. I think social media, especially Instagram, has been detrimental to many as it makes many people feel that they should be living the same life as these influencers.😩 The average person will never be able to live up to what they see on social media……it’s not real. I’m actually glad they didn’t have IG when I was younger.🥰
Ah Debbie I hear you. I grew up catching little fish in the river with my dad, playing little stones with my sister, and skipping homemade ropes with my friends. At some point I somehow forgot the joy of a simple life, but I'm glad I found that element in me again xx
@@ColourfulNoir I’m so happy that you’ve regained the love and appreciation for a simpler life. I think it’s my age…..59 next month and the fact that I’ve had an autoimmune disease since I was 17. I don’t want added worries and the more you have the more you have to worry about. We have bought a smaller home for our retirement but my husband isn’t ready to move yet. I’m trying to make my life easier by decluttering so that it’s easier to clean and maintain. I’d be happy in a little shack by the ocean.😂😂😂 It’s not going to happen but at least I can aim for a simple life. Of course I still love the bags I have and may buy a few more but wouldn’t want too many where I’d start to worry about them. Thanks for sharing your views. Some people could really use your advice.🥰🥰🥰🥰
Great advice as always! I recently got a quote to sell the first designer bag I ever bought (a Totally MM). I’m still a little on the fence but I haven’t reached for it in years.
Love decluttering closet as well, one that motivates me is your TH-cam channel 🤩 Anyway, I’m in the mid of decision to buy LV palmsprings mini. Actually I’ve been looking for it for a long time (over 2 years lol). Do you recommend this piece ? 🥰
I might think if I waited 2 years and did with out I really don’t need it. Also isn’t it the wanting that’s the fun bit, and while you want the LV Palmsprings you don’t want anything else? But that could just be me. 😀🤷♀️
I love what you say in the video, and I am also interested to learn the drawing like you. do you have any recommendations of link/website how did you start it? Thank you.
Dear Eileen, As usual, this makes perfect sense. Isn't it funny (yet also rather sad) that most of us need so much time (and money) to realize these truths?
It is easy to declutter clothes that don`t fit or feel unfomfortable. But how would you declutter if you had 10 jumpers that all are beautiful and comfortable? What if you had 10 Chanel bags that all were beautiful colours and styles that worked for you?
My humble opinion and my personal goals: Keep what you love but don’t buy anymore. Or at least not as often. Maybe just 1-2x per year depending on what your luxury minimalist goals are. Use what you already have and stop watching unboxing videos. Haha. Those videos always trigger me to spend.
My wishlist is never ending and I can never let go of the stuff that took me too long to get but then realize that it does not serve my lifestyle. I just have a small question. Do you feel like your mindset shift happened after you secured your wishlist items ?
Less is more. I never envy people with a lot of name brand items. My father in heaven is a king hes so rich. Knowing that I dont need brand name material items.
Though you made great points in this video, I have to disagree on selling anything Chanel way too soon as their prices keep rising up. If you hold on to Chanel and Hermès pieces long enough, you can even MAKE a good profit instead of losing some money... Nevertheless this was such an inspiring and interesting view on the minimalistic lifestyle! Thanks! ❤️
Yes but it’s contingent on you keeping the bags in good condition, and finding a reputable buyer. Trust me it’s easy to find buyers for $1K bags but when you’re trying to sell a $10K bag without selling to a consignment store (huge commissions) it’s a huge pain and stress. Plus the value of money also decreases with inflation so she’s better off getting rid of things she doesn’t use sooner rather than later and putting the money towards better things! She no longer values these items and they bring her stress 🤷🏻♀️

There is so much good advice in this video! I saved it to rewatch again. I love your ideas and points you make on here. It is so helpful to me!
I'm so happy to hear that! Space is indeed gold in HK! xx
I was able to sell some clothes I had no more use for and grateful for that. A couple more rounds I think of selling and donating what I can. It makes sense to not have a whole lot of stuff. One is likely to forget about things they have. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for always being here, Nicole xx
Thank you for sharing xx
I love to declutter too! I usually to it once to twice a year. It makes me feel less stress when I don’t see so much things in my wardrobe. I also enjoy doing some calligraphy which calms and relax me. A happy life is a well balance of everything!
Love that! Calligraphy sounds so therapeutic! I enjoy sketching and digital painting a lot xx
Thank you!
Thank you so much for sharing! All the best with the baby xx
Such an enviable position to be in. Can't wait to get there, where i have what i want in my collection and also gotten rid of everything I don't want. 💕💕
You'll nail it, Dani! xx
Absolutely!! A simple life can be so enriching. Thank you for your support xx
that's exactly what I feel, I have around 5 bags in total, only the ones I use and love and what functions for my lifestyle, I have 2 kids, a business but I hear from "style mentors" that I have to invest in some trends, but I just no longer want to, there is too much work having a large wardrobe and worrying about how items lose their value and not being used
I also taught myself not to express my personality through style anymore
Thank you for sharing! I think it's great you found confidence without relying on external things xx
i'm also in the process of downsizing my luxury bag collection and decluttering my house. this video was very helpful, thanks eileen!
I completely agree! I won’t sell what I have but have no desire to acquire more stuff!
so true what your were saying about your boy bag! Getting a really expensive bag and then not using it is heart breaking a bit, like the money you spent just is sitting there! I'm sort of having that happen with one of my bags that i dont use but just sort of look at and think "oh at least i have one"
I feel your pain! It used to make me feel so guilty so I'm glad the chanel boy has gone to a better home now xx
I feel anxiety when I see large collections. I have moved around a lot and always feel I need to be able to walk out the door with a suitcase if needed. A bit warped thinking, but I feel more comfortable not having physical things weigh me down. I still enjoy high end pieces, but only those that I can use daily.
I always know to watch your videos that always seem to come at the perfect time.. when I’m debating another purchase! Thanks Eileen!
Thank you, Patricia xx
Thanks for another great video! I’m so impressed with the sense of peace you have found. I am nowhere close to this point but want to be. Could you possibly talk more about the specific steps you took to resist shopping when you were still tempted to do so? I understand your motivations from what you have said in previous videos. But what are your suggestions for those of us in the thick of it still who want to get out. Thanks!
I love your elegant esthetics, would you mind sharing your grooming routine, as in skincare, make up, manicure, haircare?
I loved all you said , it’s perfectly. I would love a how to declutterd luxury
Very sound advice! I completely agree about the liability aspect of our luxury items. I think It's all about balance, your comfort level at any given location and how you move. Great video Great insight💜
Thank you! Xx
I feel recharged and refresh every time after a hike☺️
I’m considering selling some of my handbags but still not sure if this was a right move or I’d regret. Thanks for the advice and I’ll take process slowly.
You explain the minimalist lifestyle perfectly. Great advice!
Thanks so much! xx
Decluttering will definitely change your outlook on having things! The more I declutter, the more I realise I don't need more xx
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this topic - it’s good to hear about how to focus on being intentional
Glad it was helpful! xx
Thank you for the reminder! I need this weekly! So far I have been good and have not shopped! I’m going to Hawaii soon and I really hope I don’t forget my goals. 🥶
Oh Hawaii, I would love to go one day! Please share your trip with us xx
You are so articulate.
You're so sweet, thank you! xx
I'm so happy for you! Enjoy your bag, it's always lovely when we really put our things to work for us xx
@@ColourfulNoir Absolutely! Thank you for the kind words, Eileen ❤.
So funny that's exactly what I asked for for my birthday last month it was so relaxing it was truly self-care!
Love massages! xx
Skincare is definitely worth the splurge for me too xx
I've made a video about how I arrived at a point where I enjoy wanting less th-cam.com/video/4SyLyB7XFNc/w-d-xo.html
Hope it helps xx
I have started downsizing last year. I plan on moving next year and living 25 years in this house, we have collected so much stuff. I am done with the books. Most of my things are gone that I no longer use or want. Next we have to work on the husband. I love living with almost nothing. I wish I did that years ago.
Thank you for this video. Very helpful.
Glad it was helpful!xx
I tend to tell myself now that my house is not a museum lol. It really does work for me xx
Of course I still
love the bags I have and may buy a few more but wouldn’t want too many where I’d start to worry about them. Thanks for sharing your views. Some people could really use your advice.🥰🥰🥰🥰
Great advice as always! I recently got a quote to sell the first designer bag I ever bought (a Totally MM). I’m still a little on the fence but I haven’t reached for it in years.
Love decluttering closet as well, one that motivates me is your TH-cam channel 🤩
Anyway, I’m in the mid of decision to buy LV palmsprings mini. Actually I’ve been looking for it for a long time (over 2 years lol). Do you recommend this piece ? 🥰
I use my LV mini backpack a lot, it's tiny but can hold a lot xx
I might think if I waited 2 years and did with out I really don’t need it. Also isn’t it the wanting that’s the fun bit, and while you want the LV Palmsprings you don’t want anything else? But that could just be me. 😀🤷♀️
I love what you say in the video, and I am also interested to learn the drawing like you. do you have any recommendations of link/website how did you start it? Thank you.
Hello Eileen ! Thank you for this insightful video . May I ask , how do you sell your bags? I’m thinking of doing the same. Thank you
Dear Eileen, As usual, this makes perfect sense. Isn't it funny (yet also rather sad) that most of us need so much time (and money) to realize these truths?
Definitely! I sometimes wish I knew better earlier, but at least we've learnt that less can be so much more xx
Its a wonderful video! Thanks for sharing it🌻
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you xx
love this, Eileen. Thank you
It's always lovely to see you here, Eileen xx
I need to watch this video was needed, thanks 🙏🏿
Glad it was helpful! xx
I agree with @CaJuJa, I'll keep the pieces I use the most, and if it's tricky, I'll try to buy more and enjoy using what I already have xx
Where can we buy the pieces you are decluttering?
Where do you sell your stuff?Thank you.
My wishlist is never ending and I can never let go of the stuff that took me too long to get but then realize that it does not serve my lifestyle. I just have a small question. Do you feel like your mindset shift happened after you secured your wishlist items ?
thank you
Did you track your most worn pieces?
