    I actually liked this review. Something fresh and nonchalant for a change. I didn't know you could use the front cabin door as an ersatz bulkhead.
    As for the boat itself. MAYBE you could ask someone at Amel about it. Everyone is very quick to praise Amel for their "engine room" with "everything in one place". But I've seen youtube channels of people who buy Amels USED, and it is FAR from ideal. For example, those lovely "in one place" valves are good but problem is, those are the ONLY valves on the entire boat. You can't isolate one head or one sink if something goes wrong. You have to completely cut off water from the whole side of the boat. And if something happens in the middle of the ocean and you don't have a spare part, you are left with a HUGE inconvenience.
    And I REALLY don't like a huge section of the boat being walled off for the engine room. I honestly think having all the machinery and tanks under the sole is a better idea.
    And THANK GOD, Amel finally got rid of the mizzen. NOBODY knew why their 40-footer needed a mizzen. Must've been their "Citroen moment".

    Nice Boat, but a Oyster 495 gives a "warmer feeling) inside.
    But in the end, this boat has it all for long distance and small crew. Lot's of protection and "push button" sailing for the older people (I AM ONE OF THEM), who want to have the comfort of a big boat and don't want to have that much "stress" sailing it.

    Hi! Thanks for one more review on this amazing boat. I'd like to see its systems in action on your "test sail". Tacking, furling, etc and how it handles wind and waves. What would be an ideal speed for crossings, the balance between speed and not forcing the systems unnecessarily? Something around 8 and 10 knots, not matter the weather (furling sails on tought weather to keep the speed on this range)?
    How does it handles waves and harder seas compared to other boats?
    We've already been seduced by what is is. The question now is: how capable it is. Hope you can bring some light on this!
    Thank tou very much!

    I don't understand the twin rudders? Have you tried to back a twin rudder single screw sailboat into a slip? It sucks. I assume there's a bow thruster but that only keeps your bow straight. I'm curious to see what happens when put your rudder over hard to kick your stern over and all the prop thrust goes right between both rudders and does nothing. You need to be making way for them to react because there is no prop wash rushing passed them. You'll see.

    • @deerfootnz
      @deerfootnz ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Totally agree on twin rudders. Also the rudders are not protected by the keel. They are only necessary because they abandoned all pretence of hydrodynamic design by carting full beam aft, so when heeled the bow goes down, the stern up and a single rudder can't work as it is now mostly deflecting air. So sailing qualities are discarded in the interest of more hull volume.

    • @robertfreeman2322
      @robertfreeman2322 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@deerfootnz I think it's a bad idea in a cruising sailboat. I chartered a 50ft Oceanis that had same set up. sucked backing into a slip. Amel use to lead the industry in innovations and now they blindly follow the newest trend. If it ain't broke don't fix it. I bet that is what the old man would have said.

    • @deerfootnz
      @deerfootnz ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@robertfreeman2322 the twin rudders are only necessary because of poor design options at the aft end of the hull. And those design options are only necessary if you abandoned every value your founder who gifted you the company had and blindly follow the market down the same rabbit hole as 3d tv and betamax tape

      @ABC gang Twin Rudders disqualifies it as a Cruising Sailboat. If a nistake that large has been made, then my money is on there being others as well. I basically lost interest and stopped watching as soon as I heard that, because it said all I needed to know to abandon any prospects of buying an Amel. They clearly have forgotten what their reputation has clearly said they should be building, yet charge a significant price premium for the result ? Pass. If Suckers want to buy one, fine throw your money at them and enjoy posing on something that is no longer what it once stood for. 🤔Personally I have more sense than Money, and have no I Teresa in Boats for Brand Posers (basically they are like the bulk of Porsche drivers, all wallet and no bottle, I used to love playing with them on Motorbikes. And finding someone in a Porsche who could really drive, was a very rare beastie. Best Wishes and Fair Winds. Bob. 👍⛵️✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️

      @@johannesnuyten3809 Yes twin rudders are idiotic. apparently a lot of Sailboat Racers are having the twin rudders removed and replaced with a single Rudders, to get feedback from weatherhelm again, plus reduce the vulnerability to lobster pots, crab pots, and fishing nets. On a Cruising Sailboat, they are seriously idiotic for the exact same reasons. Same goes for ruddy Deep Draft Keels if you ever want to tuck into somewhere sheltered like a Shallow Bay out of the way of an incoming storm. Cruising Sailboats have totally different requirements to Racing Sailboats, and it definitely pays Not to confuse the two in one boat. Only an idiot would do that. Isn't that right ? 🤔
