    Hey man, I really appreciate how well you put into words the part about why the design shift matters. 12:19-12:59 is really well written and said, and as someone who's been using samsung products for about as long as you've been covering them, captures my thoughts on it very well.

    Thank you for separating the controversy from your actual review of the product into the back half segement. We should judge products based on their performance and capabilities in service to the consumer. Whether they mimic others has no real effect on those in most cases. What matters is implementation and the quality of it.

    The fewer parts argument for the rotating bezel seems weak to me. Traditional watches have had moving bezels while being 200m watertight and also provided to militaries for use in combat. Yes it may be more complex due to the smart watch aspect, but I don't believe it's as difficult as they make it seem. Seems more like a financial cost decision to not include the bezel to me

    • @wadesloan
      @wadesloan 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      There may be something to that argument actually. My Galaxy Watch Classic 4''s bezel was superior in every way to the Watch 6 Classic's bezel. It felt like a drop off in quality between the 2 and I also had some issues with it (plus it wasn't as satisfying to use)
      I do hope it comes back, just not tacked on like the watch 6 classic

    • @fuzziestlumpkin
      @fuzziestlumpkin 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Exactly, it's total nonsense. I think a lot of people making the claim don't understand that while the bezel rotates mechanically, it doesn't actually work mechanically. It uses a hall effect sensor(the magic of magnets), so a rotating bezel would not compromise the ability to seal the watch in any way.

      I noticed that the comments were taking The Verge to task for that in the written review of the Galaxy Watch Ultra, which seems like a shift to me (compared to the more Apple-friendly comment sections in the past). My own take sort of rides the line between the extremes: Personally, I wish Samsung had stuck closer to their own design language, and I don't think copying Apple's aesthetics will improve market share. On the other hand, there is a clear double-standard at play whenever Apple borrows concepts from Samsung or others, and people just shrug and say "Hey, there's nothing wrong with copying good ideas!"

    "Sure, the _virtual bezel_ is here..." much respect for the balanced and constructive review as always. I agree that we are seeing a regression in the character and identity of Samsung, who, not that long ago, was known for taking risks and kind of pioneering a lot of great features that are more mainstream today largely due to their work. I am glad to see that the Buds3 Pro are actually making a great product in the process (I loved seeing Michael's giddiness at the voice commands working), but overall I have been disappointed in Samsung's apparent complacency the last few generations, where the year-over-year upgrades often have less intrigue than even Apple's. And the changes we do see are often ones that make the products more closely resemble Apple's, and arguably take away identity and character. It seems like that's not going to change for a few more generations at least, and I am sad to see that. Keep up the great coverage.

    You the nail on the head, Michael. I used to despise how similar Samsung’s design elements are to Apple, but I loved the change of directions they made ever since they release the S6, with me finally biting the bullet and got the S8. I don’t know whether it’s them settling or just wanting to capture the sizeable demographics who are used to Apple designs, but I’m not really feeling the recent directions their design team is taking.

Thanks for not just parroting every popular opinion for the sake of it and actually pointing out flaws. I'm just concerned that they're taking it too far now with price hikes left and right and little to no changes in actual quality, just tweaks to make you think there's changes like FR of speakers/headphones, tuning of cameras, design, etc.
    I used to love Samsung and hate them now. When the second best phone company starts being greedier than the best one, how do you respect them?
    I call them the second best due to the sales of their flagships which is far below Apple's now.

    I concur with the shortfalls of the Ultra, BUT I did order it anyway because: 1) I'm a Samsung guy. 2) I'd held onto my Galaxy Watch 3 until they came out with something new and different (which this is, in Samsung land...). And finally 3) They gave me a decent trade-in value for my humble Watch3. So I figured I'd get the Ultra, because it was just time & if for nothing else, than to use it for the trade-in value next year. So I'm not as thrilled as I'd like to be, but am really looking forward to using it. It's still a pretty nice watch, despite the non-fullfillment of it's full potential... Thank you, as always, for the review... Keep up the good work...

    As someone who has, unfortunately succumbed to the Apple ecosystem, I actually like the small differences in the Galaxy Buds Pro 3 compared to the AirPods Pro. I mean “best noise cancelling” from you convinced me to get the AirPods Max. Though I don’t know if a lot of the functionality of the Buds Pro would be retained on an iPhone, suppose that would depend on that one app for Samsung accessories if that’s still around.
    But when I saw the Galaxy Watch Ultra, I was unimpressed at best and confused at worst. While I hardly think the square design of the Apple Watch is the best, I prefer it for the real estate it gives info on the display. Samsung picked the worst of both worlds imo. And it sounds like smartwatches on the Android side of the fence are growing far more restrictive in personalization and software customization. A true shame.

    For me, the performance improvement was worth trading in my Watch 5 Pro for the new Watch Ultra (and the trade in pre-order bonus was pretty sweet). Everything is so much smoother and more responsive than the Watch 5 Pro that it's almost in another category altogether. I actually dig the looks of the white and silver options, but I get why others might not.

    @davidwbowlby 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Part of the design change is what improves the audio on the microphones. I feel this is why the designed shifted to something similar to Apple. I loved the previous generation buds pro ear fit more than these new ones. The old mic placement was horrible and I don't see how they could have improved it in that form.
    The new squeeze takes some getting used to for the buttons, but I do like being able to adjust the fit without hitting any buttons on accident. I was always doing that with the previous buds.

    • @fuzziestlumpkin
      @fuzziestlumpkin 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agreed. I wasn't going to buy the buds 3 pro because of the design and (imo) bad colour options. But the reviews convinced me otherwise.
      Fact of the matter is, if I take a call on the buds 2 pro in a completely silent room, the person on the other end will still complain about the quality so much that I end up taking them out, if the stems... er, blades, fix this, then it's a necessary design choice.
      The watch ultra is a bit of an embarrassment though lol.

    • @davidwbowlby
      @davidwbowlby 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @fuzziestlumpkin yeah, I don't know why they would take the bezel away in use cases where people could be wearing gloves. It was the one differentiator, and they just tossed it.

      @@fuzziestlumpkinI have the Ultra and really disliked the design before. Turns out, it looks way better in real life and Ihighly prefer it over the Apple Watch Ultra. That one with its matte casing and the orange band looks like a toy to me. I have the Titanium Silver version and can rock both the more serious watchbands aswell as the "Pedro" raccoon as a GIF when I am with friends 😂

    The attempt to reflect apple’s products on samsung is the main reason why I switched to motorola, I’m done being on a company that each time and time is trying to be the apple of android instead of its own thing, which was why I loved it, but the fact that a mid-range motorola has more robust software, and something close to android stock with huge improvements, makes it a better value, and makes it feel happier, I wish they were more popular overall…

    Always can count on a mr mobile video out soon. I have the buds 3 pro and overall, I agree they are the best buds I've ever owned. I use these for work and the sound, volume, noise canceling and fit is a lot better than previous iterations. But since my job is so physical, I do a lot of outside manual labor, these are still plauged by the same problem as the last 2. The tips do not stay in your ears at all. They slip and fall out unbelievably easy if you're sweating or even think of moisture. They went back to those oval shaped ear tips and those have a hard time conforming to my ears at all. I've tried all the sizes and the large fit the best but that brings up another problem. They squeak! They rub against the silver paint so bad it's like having a rubber glove in your ear constantly. That brings up the issue with the tip durability. The tip silicone itself is so thin that if you don't pull it out exactly the way samsung tells you, it WILL tear the earbuds. There is no rigidity to them at all. The paint is a problem too. The silver pair I received, you can feel how cheap the paint they used is. It scratches easily and feels cheap after a week of use. I will say this though. They nailed the hinge. I'm also having problems with the charging case, the magnets are not strong enough to maintain contact to charge completely throughout the day if they get warm. Not hot, just warm. I clean them regularly and this is a problem I'm having all the time with them.

      The red night mode is the only criticism that seems completely baseless to me. Red is the optimum color for instruments at night, and it has always been that way. So unless damaged bezels have been a common problem for people (and maybe it has) I don’t think the simple “less moving parts” excuse works.
