A great review! Had my Ultra a few weeks now and I love it. I moved from Garmin as I wanted more of a smart watch with fitness features. My Garmin is brilliant, but really naff when it comes to smart watch features, which is fine as Garmins shine in other areas, just not for me. I had the 6 Classic before but just wasn't 'sporty' the Ultra is totally more what I was after and much better battery / performance. Works fantastic on my runs and workouts.
Another TH-camr that knows the gear sport! They have done an incredible job at Samsung. I was to the point of going back to Garmin, but wow this is a perfect smart watch. It’s a great smart watch. All the kinks from the watches before our fixed the accuracy right on point the slowness and lag gone being able to start a workout plan And track it from the watch and it actually counts in the phone wasn’t possible for whatever reason last year but this year that’s fixed. I started a work out program to date to test it and once I finished on the watch only when I linked it to the phone, it asked me if I wanted it that out to be applied to the workout plan. So I’m happy well worth the price I expect even quicker better accuracy next year but from where they started and where they are now it’s a huge jump. Great video for years you and DC Raymaker completely trashed these watches and you were right because they were horrible, but this year they did good darn good actually! For all the inaccurate grammar errors blame it on the Apple iPad I’m using.
Wow, I didn't expect a reply. Your channel helped me understand smartwatches and fitness trackers like Polar and Garmin. After watching your reviews, I chose and bought the Ignite 3. I'm currently enjoying it a lot. Thank you for helping me to understand. Have a great day! Edut: Seems like the Samsung watch has improved a lot from the sensor perspective. So expecting the same sensor is used in Watch 7, similar results may be expected. But Samsung always finds a way to make things bad. Will wait for your review before checking it
Thank you for reviewing this watch from the exercise perspective! I've had a Garmin Epix2 for a few years and due to some waning battery life, and lack of more smartwatch features decided to get the Samsung Ultra and so far I really like it. Heartrate accuracy is right on par with a Verity Sense band and awfully close to the Garmin heartrate strap. Thank you again for your insights!

Thanks Des, got the GW7 so looking forward to that review. Though i think under the hood its very similar to the ultra? Glad to see HR accuracy has improved, now if only it paired to something like a Polar HR strap 🤞
Yup exactly, both watches are the same specs minus the battery life. I also went for the regular watch 7 too myself after using an Apple Watch Ultra these past couple years
Thanks for the review. I was interested in what you'd have to say. I've had far too many watches but currently, Marq gen 2, Epix 2 (got rid of the pro for the Marq), Galaxy watch 6 classic, galaxy Ultra, and a Tag Heuer Calibre e4. If the Marq had assistant integration and the ability to reply, I'd get rid of all the others. I'll likely keep just the Marq or GW Ultra at the end of it all, though I like different aspects of each. I can't get more than 30 hours from the GW Ultra, unfortunately. On the energy score side, best to keep just the wake up score. Garmin really is kind of useless after the start of the day. I get to 5 at the end of every day, it's just a matter of when. Resting during the day really doesn't matter. Welltory has been the best tracker of energy throughout from wakeup to going to sleep. It also connects directly with the GW Ultra and the results are almost spot on with my Polar H10. Keep the videos coming. Thanks!
I use Welltory also on the Samsung Watch Ultra, and the app is very underrated, in my opinion, as no one tends to talk about it much. The energy score on Welltory is something you can use on the fly and pretty accurate, too.
Thanks for the info for using "other" for weight training 👍. I love it, and I'm coming from the garmin Epix gen 2 😂. It works great with the Peloton app and bike 🎉 I love all the health data 😀 especially doing the body comp .. Wow, amazing ! Great review, as always!
It’s just the running portion that seemed to fumble it up, if you’re not running during a hybrid workout then the circuit training or weight machine profile seem to work fine 👍
Hi, I have the watch 7 and as much as I like it, when doing a workout on my Peloton bike plus, Guide or app, the heart rate data stops transmitting and freezes when the screen isn't on (on the watch) or even if I use always on display it stops updating the heart rate data when the screen on my watch goes to always on display. If your watch ultra works perfectly then I wonder why my watch 7 doesn't 😢
Another great video from you, thank you. Good to see improvements but I am also on a Pixel watch so will stick with Garmin. Also fun to see your routes go past my house on Alpine - we are apparently neighbors. I will wave if i see you go by :).
To Garmin owners: Is this comparable, since I'm very happy with my Garmin from HR and generally being a good sports watch and the ecosystem. (Workouts, tracking and so on.) Also there's the battery life, which I've been very happy about with Garmin's super low power use and lower power display. I realise moving to OLED will hit the battery but maybe this watch is a good compropmise. Also what's the minimum pool length it supports (if any)? My garmin technically doesn't support my pool length, it's minimum is slightly more than my pool, which gives rise to some inaccuracy in my swim tracking (since I set it to Garmin minimum).
Two days with the Ultra after departing from the GearSport years ago and moving to the Apple Watch and Whoop. All good so far, but Samsung needs to add “weightlifting” to their exercise options.
You can add any custom exercise and set the parameters. However, it appears that Samsung has added 31 free-weight exercises, maybe for more accurate tracking than just a broad category of weightlifting. You can add your own though.
Will you be testing the Galaxy Watch 7 as well? There have been some reports that it struggles a bit more in GPS compared to the Galaxy Watch Ultra so I wonder if it has a different antenna design causing it to struggle a bit in certain situations. I don't use GPS on my GW7 for fitness and only use it for Google Maps but like you found on the GWU it locks my location far quicker than any prior Samsung watch I have used.
Would be good if he test the GW7, too. I saw a lot of others reviewers are saying the GPS of GW7 is inaccurate compared to others smartwatches with dual band GPS, include GW Ultra.
Well, I can push 4 days and 18 hours out of my watch. And as far as the bottom part where the sensor is, I really haven't seen anything wrong with it to bother my skin. I don't get any rash. I definitely love it over the six classic which the sensor is now better and gives me more accurate readings and it has made my life for the better. I went with the titanium gray because it has the orange accents all the way just one more thing why watch an informative video and claim you have returned the watch if you don't have it anymore why stick to the end and watch the video? I personally don't do that. If I don't own the product at least for me, it has been a positive note and I love my Galaxy watch Ultra in titanium Gray. Every workout you do is much more consistent and accurate over the watch 6 classic all the time
@DesFit For outdoor activities was the battery usage test done with the LTE turned on ? I'm interested how will the battery do when using it for running/riding if you don't bring your phone and use the watch's LTE . I'm wondering if I should replace one of my garmin watches with an samsung watch ultra because of the LTE.
I am so tempted to sell my white Garmin Forerunner 265 and get the Galaxy Watch Ultra. I really like the silver color although battery will only last up to 3 days the most while my Garmin can last 7-11 days. I am still on the fence so we will see.
Look in incoming garmin subscription. I was going to get the fenix 8 when it's out but with the sudden announcement of subscriptions, that makes me think differently about garmin
If it tells you when did you sleep, then why not waking you up after a completed cycles ? This feature is missing from the app itself and they didn't bother to add it to the new Wear OS ! It's just a calculation and alarm, the sensors are there !!!

It would've been nice if they put 700mAh battery, would've made the watch last 3 days with full heavy use and work and maybe stretch it to 4 days around around 5-6 days of battery of light use would've been nice.
@jesuscervantesj82 What are your settings? Did you receive the new battery update? I'm on low brightness, AOD is off, LTE always off. I get 2 days with one workout while streaming music. I'm coming from an Epix Pro Gen 2 that I'd get 26 days!
The results of accuracy of sensors are good but plz plz do share that if watch 7 have the same sensors as ultra? Will the result equates to both the devices????
I have a garmin fenix 6. Can’t imagine anything better. Zero “nits” screen is more visible outdoors and always perfect. Battery life is 20 plus days. Notifications always work and I can deny calls.
My thoughts exactly. Really what else do you need, people act like they want a phone on their wrist, but 99% will only receive notifications and control the volume on their earbuds. These watches look gorgeous, but they're not practical, and the battery life is just a deal breaker, I already have to charge my phone every night, ear buds every 3 days, laptop every few days if I'm taking it to work, I don't need one more thing I'm having to constantly worry about.
I returned my fenix 7 pro SS and I do not regret it. I do miss the MIP and, more usefully, the flashlight. But, the availability to turn off/on my alarms at night when I'm to lazy to reach for my phone is amazing. I get 3 days worth of battery in between charges. I wish it was better, but eh, I charge it while I shower. To me it's much easier than my fenix. But hey, it's two different products and the watch ultra 7 was more for me.
@@sethdbrown30Not a Samsung but Apple Watch user. I do like to have cellular connectivity because I don’t take my phone out for most of my shorter runs. I like to maintain contactable at all times. I can stream any music or podcasts I want from Spotify and live radio if I am just too lazy to care about the playlist. Multi day battery life is a good advantage but it is not enough for me give up all the smart features that smartwatches have. It is not hard to put your watch on the charger as you shower to get it back up.
Awesome as always, Des. Like others, I'm anxiously awaiting your Watch 7 review, especially after the Fit File episode where you and Ray touched briefly on it and you were hinting at good GPS performance. Hopefully just a few short hours from now!?! 😉

Man this watch let me down so bad I was doing a 4 mile trail and during my last mile the watch stop recording my hike, I tried to reload the trail and it started from the beginning not my current position luckily I had on my apple watch ultra 2 as back up 😢
For the price you would expect it to be extremely accurate and have no faults, anything less is unacceptable. You would also expect it to support ant + for that price and it does not.
I cant get more than 1.5 day of battery without tracking excersise. I have settings like you. Im losing 4% per hour on day and over whole night, 10%. Any suggestions?
Got mines a little over a week ago, today the action button stopped working along with the green optical sensor that reads my vitals. Will be returning!😡
Not sure, I've been waiting for 3 years for a Samsung watch to be accurate, this one unfortunately is the same as the others. I'd rather get the 6 classic since it's as inaccurate as all the rest, but much more beautiful than the others. I mean, why do you need this data if it's not accurate? At least you'll have something nice on your wrist, that works with other functions, CHEAPER and I'll wait for the next one, hopefully Samsung copies Apple watch's accuracy.

It would've been nice if they put 700mAh battery, would've made the watch last 3 days with full heavy use and work and maybe stretch it to 4 days around around 5-6 days of battery of light use would've been nice.
Well I get 4 days 15 hours with my morning workouts and light use all day
@@jesuscervantesj82 with AOD always on ? Not possible
@@jesuscervantesj82you have everything off 💯
@jesuscervantesj82 What are your settings? Did you receive the new battery update? I'm on low brightness, AOD is off, LTE always off. I get 2 days with one workout while streaming music. I'm coming from an Epix Pro Gen 2 that I'd get 26 days!
i got my galaxy watch ultra 2weeks now. no complains so far. 👍🏼
Good summary ... thanks. Is there a way to get the workout data (including heart rate) downloaded from the watch ultra to analyze in Excel?
The FitnessSymcer app/platform allows for a variety of export methods. Thanks!
Hello Des, which smartwatch you recommend that has blood pressure feature. Thank you
If you live in America, then it doesn't come with blood pressure. Only European models so far.
Thanks for your perfect info! Can you pair the watch with an external hr strap?
That information is provided in the video 👍Thanks!
The results of accuracy of sensors are good but plz plz do share that if watch 7 have the same sensors as ultra? Will the result equates to both the devices????
Thanks for the oustanding review, but almost 3 days of battery? it´s kind very poor battery, Garmin still rules....Thanks Des.
Love it.
whats ur go to watch for work out?
Who cares about Garmin, videos is about Samsung. Period
@@montalbano1972 Garmin is King!
Hi, for indoor treadmill can I set the watch for whatever incline I want that I use on my treadmill so the watch matches my treadmill ? Thanks.
Awesome as always, Des. Like others, I'm anxiously awaiting your Watch 7 review, especially after the Fit File episode where you and Ray touched briefly on it and you were hinting at good GPS performance. Hopefully just a few short hours from now!?! 😉
Why does Samung not allow you to pair cardiac brace? some explanation of the company?
Hey, i have a Pixel 7 pro and am thinking about buying my first SmartWatch. Ist the combination between SG Ultra and my Pixel Phone good, or would the Pixel watch 3 fit better? As i know just blood pressure and ecg are available just with a Samsung Phone. Thank you
I haven't heard any reviewer mention if you can go diving with this watch
Hi Des, does the watch use alot of battery doing weightlifting?
No
What's the experience like if you do want to use an external hr sensor (without your phone)? It's insane that they don't include this feature..
I have never been disappointed since I became a customer of amzwatch. Their watches are of exceptional quality.
Can you please compare the pixel 3 45mm with the Galaxy watch ultra?
Man this watch let me down so bad I was doing a 4 mile trail and during my last mile the watch stop recording my hike, I tried to reload the trail and it started from the beginning not my current position luckily I had on my apple watch ultra 2 as back up 😢
I was looking for a reason to upgrade from Galaxy Watch 4 Classic (with rotating bezel) to Ultra and i don't see it the way i am using my watch.
i just ordered one
For the price you would expect it to be extremely accurate and have no faults, anything less is unacceptable. You would also expect it to support ant + for that price and it does not.
I cant get more than 1.5 day of battery without tracking excersise. I have settings like you. Im losing 4% per hour on day and over whole night, 10%. Any suggestions?
Is fall detection feature available for non Samsung phones?
does the Ultra have ANT+? Can I broadcast my HR to my bike computer without the phone?
Thanks! can you compare the accuracy with the Galaxy watch 7?
Yup, coming up - thanks!
@desfit please review the OnePlus Watch 2R. I am really thinking of buying it. Thank you.
I've been testing it for the last month or so. Coming soon in the review queue.
@@DesFit Thank you very much, looking forward for the review.
what watch face is it in the thumbnail, showing the different zones for hr? I can't find that.
It’s a data page during a workout
@@DesFitindoor cycling has this as well?
I have a seiko, 2 smart watches, 1 coros so I dont need any more, its enough❤
10atm and No diving and even no jumping in water? Doesn‘t make sense
How would you compare it to forerunner 965?
How did you change the map navigation to light
how can I acheive that strap combo
Very good video. I have the watch 7 44mm and love it. You need a haircut.
I still dilemma within fr965 or galaxy ultra?😢
Got mines a little over a week ago, today the action button stopped working along with the green optical sensor that reads my vitals. Will be returning!😡
Does it feel bigger on the wrist than the Apple Watch Ultra?
Apple watch looks and feels bigger than samsung
Pls tell me the band on the watch?????
Mentioned in the video, actually had some thoughts about that specific band
Not sure, I've been waiting for 3 years for a Samsung watch to be accurate, this one unfortunately is the same as the others.
I'd rather get the 6 classic since it's as inaccurate as all the rest, but much more beautiful than the others.
I mean, why do you need this data if it's not accurate? At least you'll have something nice on your wrist, that works with other functions, CHEAPER and I'll wait for the next one, hopefully Samsung copies Apple watch's accuracy.
