- Driving Jeff Gordon's 2011 NASCAR up the Festival of Speed Hillclimb was terrifying and awesome at the same time. 900 horsepower, cold slicks, 60,000 people watching, no run-off and big hay bales...I mean what could possibly go wrong ?!
This video would not be possible without the generosity and trust of owner Paul who invited me to drive the car. There are no words that can express how grateful I am for the opportunity. I would also like to thank all the NASCAR owners, drivers and support crew that were at Goodwood over the weekend and at the shakedown test for you advice and support. I was fortunate enough to meet the owner, Paul Clark, on the Thursday morning of the event. I am a big Jeff Gordon fan, so we both fanboy’d over him for 10 minutes while chatting about the car, that he has not long owned! The car is in stunning condition. I am always impressed when I have seen any of Jeff’s cars at Goodwood, including this one. It’s an attack on the senses when you see and hear these cars, so I can fully understand your feelings after completing your run. Great video! 👍

That was awesome! I could almost feel your emotions all the way here, across the pond. Especially as a fan who watched Jeff Gordon from when he started his career in NASCAR Winston Cup! I once did a ride along in a Dale Earnhardt car (the driver that I followed the most) at speed up to 150mph at the Disney Raceway! Quite an experience… but nothing like what you did at Goodwood! Congratulations on being able to fulfill your dreams…

Fantastic Video! For some reason I missed this video when it was originally upload. Wow! You can see the adrenaline rush being release at the end of the run.

A bit late in getting to see this one.But,wow,that was amazing.That car is a beast,you must have had to take a course of brave pills to take that one on.Superbly driven and such emotion afterwards.I once got the shakes like that when my boss at the time chucked me the keys to his new M3 and asked me to drive.Excellent stuff,the only problem is how do you stop that next year.Well done again.I bet that beer tasted great.

Very casual walk past Jackie Stewart. If you knew you were there he would've turned around and asked for your autograph I'm sure !! Why do the front wheels lock when you came out of the garage? That drive was awesome and the effect it had on you, incredible! Brilliant fella.

Peter…I felt for you when I saw you shaking when you had finished your run. That is some strain on anybody and maybe shows this was your greatest test. Yet you did it,,,brave, strong, challenging…something to remember as a special moment. The car looks terrible to drive and crazy hard to control but you mastered it. So next…take that Renault Yawn back and swap it for something far more interesting…JayEmm liked that Lexus LC500 and I think you might as well! Getting in that car looked more difficult than getting into the mark 1 Lotus Elise
It was very tricky. Getting out was worse. I’ve actually pulled a muscle in my shoulder 😂
I was with you all the way and hanging on to my deckchair. Awesome day out for all of us watching. From seeing the front tires on full lock having to be slid around the corner to reversing back into the garage it was a marvelous experience. 👍👍What is the lifespan of a clutch in that one? 😲
That is a big challenge. They are very digital (on or off and not much in between) and don’t like being slipped. It’s also very expensive to replace them. No pressure then 😂😂😂

If it was me driving, besides being terrified, I would be thinking, "just don't crash". I get the impression you were thinking much the same. Now imagine driving a 500 mile (806 km) race on a NASCAR track. It gives one a lot more respect for these drivers.

NASCAR racing, particularly on ovals, is unfairly viewed as less than formula or road racing. But what it must be like to mix it up with 40 cars on a circuit and keep a clear head! That is what separates us mortals from the real racers. Well done sir! How about a go on the 6 wheel AU or Mercedes in front of you next time?

I have to stop watching the videos you post. I end up green with envy each time. And THIS time I don't think there is a brighter green available. What I could relate to was the adrenaline rush at the end. I have sat in my race car at the end of a session shaking as you did. I know you experienced the buzz from you body, the rush in your head, the heart rate at crazy numbers. You have to experience that complete body tremble. Well done Peter. Oh, and I know your fist thought after you turned off the engine...can i do that again now?
