First of all, I hope you enjoyed this short tribute to the legends at TopGear and The Grand Tour. second, I realize there are a few mistakes that I completely forgot to fix in the final revision 💀: - The Peppercorn train was actually built new that year (2008). - The 'Jet' vs the Veyron was a mix-up between two scenes, one from series 10 (the actual Eurofighter Jet) and series 7 (the scene referred to in this video). The actual airplane was a Cessna 182. Let me know, in the comments, if there are any more. Can't have misinformation. (I honestly hope these are it lol)
@CrackedPistons - The Top Gear & Grand Tour Triumvirate, accompanied by Execuitive Producer Andy Wilman, and the other wonderful people that worked to bring the shows to air, have successfully and unknowingly created, in this car bloke's opinion, the best TV shows my eyes have ever seen -- and as such, I hereby declare them, the best TV shows... In the world.
I am neither a petrol head or a driver. I started watching re runs of Top Gear and The Grand Tour during lockdown, as recommended by my son. My husband died at the beginning of lockdown and I am not exaggerating when I say that these three lunatics helped get me through. I also watch Clarksons Farm and Our Man in.... etc, and have to admit I am now a little bit in love with James May x
This is incredible. Probably the best encapsulation I’ve seen of the legendary trio and their enormous impact on the motoring world. A worthy tribute for such a great show. They truly had an amazing run. Sad that it had to end, but all things must eventually.
I watched with my son, and when he left home to go be a man on his own, we chatted about these three blokes. For me, September 16th was the saddest day on TV I can remember. I can't imagine ever seeing another show that I like this much.
They definitely left their mark. I was 22 in 2002, and I'm 44 now. Watched every episode, one way or another. Seeing them hang it up, was like saying goodbye to your best friend of 20+ years -- which I actually did last year. TopGear and The Grand Tour, will be their legacy, no matter what else they do.
I grew up from the age on 9 watching these three. They turned me in to a petrol/gear head. I’m American I cried during the final episode of top gear they presented and did here too. J’ezza, Hamster, And Captain Slow I will forever miss your antics
I'm not used to comment on TH-cam, but this recap is perfect to it. You've made (for me) the best recap video about the best TV trio ever. What a way to relive 22 fantastic years! Congratulations!
i didn't witness top gear but i witnessed the journey of grand tour and i feel proud to see present being history. i didn't cry when i broke up but i cried each time when i realise that we may not see them doing challenges with cars or adventures really make me cry a lot and a testament how they helped people like me to go through tough times.
This is such a beautiful love letter to the three wisemen who gave an entire generation so much. I’m grateful to have grown up watching them, and though I know they deserve to do their own thing, I know this will form a whole in my heart that won’t be easily mended. As a dude it felt so nice to watch Top Gear/The Grand Tour and never feel like it was super tailored too one demographic (despite it rooting in being a car show) unlike many reality-esque shows are. There’s a reason programs like this and MythBusters for instance, influence a whole generation of people to become interested in doing STEM related projects, because not only did they expose us to how cool it is, but also because their passion for them sold us on it. Having grown up with them since I was about 11, I’m so grateful to know there’s other people that have watched these guys for much of their youth and have grown as attached as I have. Thank you for this wonderful video.
I feel the same way g. Although I did not have the privilege of watching them while they aired (TopGear), I’ve been rewatching all the seasons time and time again. They’ve never bored me even once with the stuff they get up to. Appreciate the kind words my guy!
After all this time of watching Top Gear and The Grand Tour I never once watched it for the cars, I watched it to watch 3 old gits have the time of their life.
As a 57 year old petrol head and dedicated top gear/grand tour fan, I have to say what a great video this was in paying homage to the great trio Clarkson, Hammond and May. The friendship bond these guys have is obvious . Three mates larking about , having a laugh, and generally having fun, it’s priceless . It didn’t matter that cars were only really a part of the show, it was their antics that made the shows so popular, even if you were not really a ‘car’ person. We would sit down as a family together at home and watch TG/GT eagerly, and all of us would laugh so much, even though it’s only myself in my household that’s into cars. Will we ever see another similar programme like this with the presenters bonding like Clarkson, Hammond & May ? Maybe, maybe not, but at least we have all the episodes to watch over and over again. I haven’t watched the very last episode as yet as I know for me it will be emotional..
You put it very well. I’ve never seen TG when it was airing so I didn’t know how you feel but even as a relatively recent viewer of their shows, the end seems too sad.
Great video! I hope you get more views and subscribers. I love the trio, they always cheered me up whenever they were on TV. I started loving cars because of them and their humor.
We need people like to inspire people to love and value their cars. So many people today abuse their cars and dont value the beauty of them. Im now a mechanic and try to find love in almost every car I can even when they suck the soul out of interior design in EVs. The importance or this is because more people will demand quality and value good design and the importance of freedom with your vehicle. The more people view them as point A to B the less control and the more slop manufacturers will shove down our throats, we are seeing it now with larger and larger push back on not having buttons. They are the best and top gear will never be the same without them. I hope we get our new trio to inspire a new generation!
When I was a little kid, my dad used to show me top gear in hopes to get me interested in cars. Loved the trio’s stuff ever since. It’s, like you said, bitter sweet seeing them end their long journey together.
I would have a beer watching the sunset listening to this. We've come a long way but I don't know whats next. I know nothing's gonna top them ever but i hope we won't be left alone after this. Good video lad
I'm thankful I got to live my childhood watching their adventures always putting a smile on my face. I'm surely gonna miss them but life needs move on and I will always remember what they achieved.
Enjoyed the montage that you put together of our favorite Top Gear presenters. It is sad that this is ending, but we really couldn't expect it to go on forever. One thing, title was a little misleading as I was expecting a bombshell sort of update.
I first discovered Top Gear when I saw the "Killing A Toyota" episode live on TV in 2003. I was a very small boy then, but I was old enough to understand what was going on. Ever since then, I've had a fetish for Toyotas, and even drive one now myself. I also fell in love with Top Gear back at their inception, and for the last 21 years, I have grown up watching these 3 and all their crazy challenges. I don't mind the new Top Gear, I think it's alright, but obviously, it can't compare. Thank you, Hammond, Clarkson, and May. You will never be forgotten.
Thanks for this video. Those 3 have been parts of our lives for so many years. They inspired me to work with cars, the most notable was 17 years in F1. Thanks you lot LOL
yup, I still distinctly remember JC mentioning "no one really thought of preserving any of the old Peppercorns" and how parts of the drivetrain (not a train nerd here) were made from scratch.
1 fact correction, James did not fly a "jet plane" in a challenge against Clarkson. It was a Cessna 182S. However, he did ride in a U-2 Spy plane. Clarkson's "dismissal" is a kind way of saying he was fired for punching a producer. For not having the hotel room and or food in order as I recall. Mongolia episode is 1 of Clarkson's most favorite specials they did. Interesting, as it for some reason is 1 of my favorites as well. I like the episode where they are in "ruined" 4x4's in Bolivia. And the episode where Clarkson turns a Nissan Harbody into a sea going boat. And of course, quite a few others. The race to the north pole was epic. Most people pick that one as a favorite. 22 years of mucking about is a respectable career.
Loved how you put this together with the same humour and whimsy as the show itself. Are you the Andy Wilman regen? I've been lucky enough to have just reached car buying age when this 22year journey began. These 3 genius fools have been the television highlight of my adult life.
