    The all-new 2019 Toyota HiAce/Commuter vans are now on sale in Australia. To see if it has what it takes to live up to the legend of its predecessor, Paul Maric takes a drive.
    They come with either a 3.5-litre petrol V6 engine or a 2.8-litre four-cylinder diesel engine from the HiLux.

      the same motor can’t be using the same amount of fuel whether it’s manual or auto, there has to be a difference

    Removing middle seat it’s worst decision you can’t lay down for your break and if your van is refrigerated it’s your worst choice also needed to upgrade the fuel tank which is very small .. everything else looks awesome

    They do 10,000kms service for long term reliability. Most 90’s hiace did over 500,000kms

      @@barryphillips7327 The new one is butt-ugly, but i like because of the engine now being in the front instead of under the driver, which makes it MUCH more safer and stable. But someone responded to me in another comment that they been having a HiAce with a long bonnet for years. Which once have you been getting in your country? Flat bonnet?

      @@angrysocialjusticewarrior the Toyota Hiace in the UK had a bonnet. It was basically the 90s version with a bonnet and that was made until 2011 bit then they replaced it with the Proace which is a rebadged Peugeot. I love the Hiace and I'd rather have it than the Proace. Probably should import one of these

    You are soooooo much better off with the servicing every 6 months 👍
    Constant fresh oil = longer mechanical component life in turn saving you lots of $$$ Down the road.

    OMG. What did they do with the exterior design? I mean, the outgoing model was a step forward from the one before it, but this one takes two steps back.

      It's all about safety man. The new design is significantly safety thanks to something as simple as putting the engine infront instead of under the driver. Old hiace was a death-trap.

      @@angrysocialjusticewarrior My mistake, I'm from Europe, and I forgot we now call our HiAce for ProAce. I don't think the engine has been under the driver since the 80's over here. It seems our HiAce was something called Granvia? Anyways... it seems it got a nose over here in 1995.
      I now realise I made a big mistake by posting on a video from a completely different continent. :P

    The alloys are a very nice idea this time,are they standard? I am tired of the stupid wheelcaps that are being stolen everyday at the shopping malls, parking bays, mountain hiking or even at the restaurants at night..just about everwhere

    I got to drive a new diesel hi-ace when my trafic had issues...i did 10 000 k's in it and at no stage was the fuel economy anywhere near 7.5 l per 100 K's..best i could do was low 12's with a maximum of high 13's which is pathetic ...the traffic does consistent 8-9 L per 100 K's also the trafic has an 80 L tank compared to a 60L tank in the hi-ace..

    Great rewiew. How disappointing that it has hydraulic stearing and that woeful tailgate. Love the massively improved cabin though and entry/egress is probably as good as the iload now (which has always had a barn door option. Accountants bought the old model for their fleets and drivers hated that entry and egress pain!

      Wayne Hobbs Absolutely nothing wrong with hydraulic steering, it is not outdated at all and more often than not it gives you better feel, I only know of a few cars with electric steering that performs just like hydraulic steering and has awesome feel and that is the bmw m3/4. Other than that electric steering is not the best if you enjoy actually driving the car...

People who drive toyota hiaces or most Toyotas for that matter are beige cardigan wearers, lawn bowlers or folk that think cricket is a sport. Hydraulic uses engine power and increases fuel consumption.

    Looks very European. I would have a difficult time trying to get use to this model. I prefer the cab over design. I have a 1987 Lwb high roof with the 2 L 2.4 non turbo diesel which has rear airconditioning in the rear.

    Well this is same as the new Toyota GRANVIA that is replacing the beloved Tarago, would have been better with lexus badge plus all luxury bits and pieces.

      Not quite. They share a platform but the rear end uses a different suspension setup.

    Toyota are correct with six month servicing. The others use the twelve month interval as a marketing gimmick.

    I would stay away from the diesel model. Those comonrail systems are wayyy too expensive . Imagine where im from they sell 1 denso comonrail injector for 900 usd. Thats crazy. I would stick with the gasoline one

      NAIEM HANIFF Here in Costa Rica these never go bad, ive seen 1kd/2kd d4d engines with more than 500000kms on the stock injectors. Only the suction valve on the pump goes bad or dirty every 200000kms .

    Six month or 10 000km servicing is way below industry standard.We have a fleet of hi aces now,and this is a PITA,many of the opposition are way longer.

      @@jarrodheley7879 Know couriers with both, the Renault masters are the longest lasting and most common I see along with the Mercedes Sprinter, The Ducato is also a better van, lots of power and quite reliable, the new HiAce is trash, my friend bought one, missing bolts from factory 10k on the odo and already in the shop for a month waiting for a new stearing rack bearings, electrical harnesses that fried themselves, it's brand new. I don;t see many VAG vans so can't comment on them, I am a VAG fan but when it comes to Vans Renault has it locked no wonder they are the best selling van in Europe.

    Leaf springs?? Sea sickness on the road! Vito and transporter have independent coil sprung rear and still have superior cargo ability. Hiace is a gas guzzling dinosaur. Obviously cheaper to buy due to Australia's distance from Japan.

      its a compromis of design to improve safety and i totally agree with that look at the mercedes sprinter or vw T its ok for me and the v6 option is also very nice because its going to run much more smoother than diesel although

    The big slab of black plastic at the front is just plain ugly......Why? Chevy failed because of the fantastic plastic, but I guess manufacturers don’t care about looks that only a mother could love!

    If you like driving a polluting ugly white box around, this is for you. Electric with colour choices, solar on the roof, and some rounded cute body curves, would be better, lol

      Electric is not good for the enviorenment. EFuel might take off which will make it less polluting
