    What a great sashing method, I love the look specially the narrow binding very neat. I’m just wondering if that method could be used on a 10” block, would you have to add strips of batting and wider sashing. Thanks so much for sharing 👍❤️😊

  • @eunicedonges3645
    @eunicedonges3645 2 ปีที่แล้ว +31

    Another way to do this is to cut the top sashing strip 1 and 1/2 Inches wide. Fold it in half and press. Sew the raw edges to the quilted block and back strip. Then when you flip it over you already have a folded edge to stitch.

    I have a couple of questions on the supplies for this quilt as you go project. the 5x5 fabric squares are they to be in one color? It says one charm pack. Is charm packs not different colors?
    What is the wool, flannel or cotton scraps for?
    The thin batting is there a specific brand?
    Sorry for all the questions just trying to get a head start on the supplies since I can only shop on the weekends.
    Thank you all for being so willing to help beginners like me.

    • @TheQuiltmakerHomestead
      @TheQuiltmakerHomestead  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Linda........You can cut the 5x5" squares from yardage OR use a charm pack. The colors are totally up to you. In my example shown, I cut the squares all from tea stained muslin, and they are all the same. In the quilt I'm making with you during the series I'll be using a Kona charm pack with all different colors. The batting I'm using will be Warm & Natural cotton batting.....that's really a personal preference. The wool, flannel or cotton scraps will the the applique fabrics.....you don't HAVE to use wool or flannel, this list is only to give suggestions and options.

    • @lindamcdonald5883
      @lindamcdonald5883 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheQuiltmakerHomestead So it is kind of like the hummingbird but the background fabric is different colors with using the charm pack. I think I got it.

    I've been doing QAYG for years and this is basically how I do mine but my front strip is wider and folded in half so I don't have a raw edge to deal with on the front. Either way, QAYG is fun and so easy to do :)

    Lisa Anu to your TH-cam channel. But I have been watching for some time and I love what you do. I'm watching you right now with the block as you go. But every time I try to download, I can't get it. Or actually any of them so I get nothing as far as you're free. So I'm missing out so what I do is take a picture on my phone and work from there. Not easy but doing the best I can with your help. Can you help me get some free patterns of yours? I like your 12 by 12 pattern of your cat and flower and puppy dog. So I'm a sheen and star. I think. Can you help thank you, lillie

    I love all you videos but today I am soooo discouraged. I am trying to quilt a placemat but my machine (new)….Baby Lock Presto 2, will not sew it properly, the stitches are tiny even if I ask for 4 and the material even if I used spray glue bunches underneath, all is pinned but no go. I could just cry…..

    Love this so much. I don’t have a long arm machine yet so I’m definitely gonna try this. If I did this on T-shirt quilts, could I use 2 1/2 strips? Would I need to still cut the shirts with the 1/2” seam allowance?

    Very cute series. One suggestion for your next series... keeping beginners in mind... start out with block #1 as the simplest (like the star block) and the last block the most complicated. That way beginners can build their skills as they work through the series. Sending lots of love 💖 from sunny 🌞 Arizona 🌵. Take care of yourselves 😷.
