Yup, as Steve from Gamers Nexus pointed out there's a sadly missed opportunity here for a significant X performance gain for very little changes to the end product.
Back in the day there was an actual XFX RX 580 XXX Edition. I think nobody topped the 6 X build since then, even the XFX RX 7900 XTX would need a 20% power up to get there.
I've been building less PCs as I got older and spent money in other places, but looking around and I found your video and you're still going strong! Love your videos and input.
AMD just released new drivers, 22.12.1 , specifically for the 7900 series of cards. It would be good to see how performance changes as the drivers mature.

Some GEFORCE 4080 are selling for : 1750. for the gigabyte OC edition , Gigabyte Eagle OC for $ 1710. , Asus tuff not OC edition $1680., MSi ventus 3x OC $1800. , Suprim for $2000. , gaming X TRIO 1850. Could purchase the PowerColor Red Devil AMD Radeon RX 6950 XT for $1168.00 and of course thats before 12 percent tax's on top of that on all the cards. There making it impossible to upgrade from my mere 1070 that is aging gracefully.
XFX is great. They would use thermal pads on the back. I own 45 RX 6700 XT from XFX, lol. Not a single issue with any card except ONE screw on ONE card stripped and made it impossible to disassemble the card without breaking the aluminum frame and snapping that piece off.
Great review! I just bought one, catching it on sale, and paid $869 USD or 675.9 GBP on Amazon. The price has dropped considerably in the last year. I'm going to install it tonight. I'm a big fan of XFX graphics cards. I went from an XFX RX 6750 XT, to an XFX RX 7900 XT and now to the XFX RX 7900 XTX.

Got mine this week for 899. Still a good price. Did yours not wanna work with HDMI audio at first? Mine will not output audio over HDMI, doesn't even recognize it now. Haven't fiddled with it yet.
@@Kahless00 I had to get a new HDMI 2.1 cable. If you have an older HDMI cable, you will most likely need to get one that supports 4K, even if you dont have a 4K TV or monitor, just because of the XTX's output.
Finally, the XTX is here ! We all blamed the 4080 with it's big cooler, that does not fit into any case. Now we can buy the small 7900XTX which fits into any case, bacause it is so small and tiny. Thank you AMD and thank you XFX.
The Powercolor 7900XT Red Devil is already on sale for 1049.99 GBP the non XTX version. The Asus TUF is also the same price...so quite steep but probably the best cooler. Still way too expensive for the XT version. Cheapest is the Sapphire standard at 899GBP and in stock at OCUK.
I have this GPU, and it has been great so far. That shiny backplate is sweet if you have some RBG action going on where the light can hit it, as it reflects the colors very nicely.
I would also like to add, that backplate is a cast piece of metal which makes it extremely rigid. Most cards backplates appear to be made from more flexible rolled metal.

I already decided to go full AMD (after 16 years of Intel/Nvidia) because of team greens BS marketing and pricing as well as Team reds incredible X3D CPUs. The question was just which 7900XTX to get. already decided to build a mini-itx with a i7 13700k because my old system had a ryzen processor and I wanted to try Intel processor instead this time but I'm trying to decide which graphics card to go in the system and the graphics card has to be a maximum of 320mm, because of the case and I'm trying to decide which one would be the perfect fit for this built.

From what I have seen these cards don't command much premium in the secondary market so that is a great thing to consider when the 8000 series comes. Just got my 6800 xt merc for $500 and I can't wait for RDNA 4 so I can grab a well priced 7900 xt or xtx the same way.

I'm seeing this card for 789 dollars on Amazon, while the XTX is starting around 1100 bucks. I think the whole 'value versus price' falls apart when you look at how much they are actually selling for, not the MSRP.
$1099 in the UK will be like £1249...maybe £1199. Asus and the bigger names will certainly hit £1300+, which is too close to 4090FEs £1599. If you want the lower XTX and don't care about RT, great, but if you are going for an Asus/Gigabyte, it could be pointless as the 4090FE price will be close, and with that card, you don't have to worry about lowering settings to get RT above 60fps in demanding games. I will be shocked if other companies go as low as XFX.
So you've made assumptions based on someone else making wild assumptions, two wrongs don't make a right. Wait until retail pricing is announced is all I will say. We also have to bare in mind how much competing options are going for, the RTX 4080 in the UK is averaging north of £1300, often even above £1420. The RTX 4090 is retailing for north of £1600 last time I looked, so that's a completely different price bracket regardless. Now, if the AIB's want to try and actually shift units it is likely they'll be targeting about £1100 for their Aftermarket variants with the OTT variants going for £1200. If pricing doesn't hit that sort of ballpark then it is unlikely that the AIB's will make many sales in the long run after the initial buying frenzy, because the UK is now in a Recession even if that is not officially recognized yet, and so theirs less potential customers and the remaining potential customers will not want to be spending much more than the MSRP that AMD announced at their RX 7900XTX reveal. Market conditions in the West will dictate if AMD & Nvidia will continue to make large volumes of sales over the next 9-12 months, and if we look at the way things are currently going it is unlikely that things we will be great for AMD & Nvidia, people simply won't have the cash spare.
@@LawrenceTimme Well, there you go. Not everyone will go for these, and no doubt the more expensive Asus one, but that's too close to a 4090FE price, considering what you get extra. If Nvidia knocks off £100 on the 4080FE and 4090FE, to me, that kills the AMD cards if you care about RT in games, and you get more support on the upscale side of things.

The cheapest non XT is on sale now at 899 GBP but the TUF and the Powercolor Red Devil XT versions are 1049.99 and these are not the XTX versions. I think the XTX cheapest is going to be at least 1049.99 for base model and more like 1149.99 for the better models so right smack into the 4080...Jus buy whatever suits you be it AMD or Nvidia and forget the brand name..

Nice looking card, just a bit too long for my case (Coolermaster SL600) by about 1cm and still not in stock apart from some random reference models It definitely won on... X-factor😁
Nice fit & finish great looking card too, I hope in the end pricing wars start so enthusiasts who can't afford the new generation are somehow able when all the hype settles.
I upgraded from a -Powercolor Rx 6700 xt Red Devil (nice looking gpu) to a -Powercolor Rx 6800 xt Red Devil (looked the same but thicker) to a -XFX Rx 7900 xt merc 310 - Must say it looks minimal, but great, the only light is from the XFX logo which is white. Card runs at 390w stock(which is pre oced), runs quite cool,tho the power draw was a bit much for me, tuned it down to 2400mhz, undervolted to 1110mv and lost 5% of the performance and now draws around 280w, it's very cool 60 c on hotspot. Got one new for 750$. Very happy so far.
My 7900xt overclocked out performs your 7900xtx in Time Spy Extreme. I just want that to be known. I'm #1 in time spy extreme for the 13900k and 7900xt. I saved $500 by not buying the scalped 7900xtx.
Thanks for this review. I got myself hands on this monster and working on a new rig (I got a good deal for the gfx and couldn't resist). But I have one problem though, a good case. Either they are too small, can't fit the Merc or don't have space for triple fan radiator. And now I found your vid and would like ask you what case you use? Thanks in advance
Reminds me of when the 2900xt ate power. Or 3870 vs the 8800 gt-gts. It was a trend for a while...and nothing's changed lots of rasters same as the heaps of stream processors/shaders era of yesteryear. Can't believe it's hitting 400-500w even on reference cards 450w
G'day Tom, We got the price for 7900XT & XTX down here in Australia, RRP for 4080 is $2399AUD & 4090 $2959AUD with some 4080 going down as low as $2099 overnight, Why? because 7900XTX RRP is $1789AUD & 7900Xt $1619AUD
I really recommend going with a horizontal layout for the benchmark readings. It's extremely confusing, and I have to tilt my head to try and make sense of it. They're also too close together and mix in the different colors... you have a recipe for disorientation and further confusion. I'm just trying to give you constructive criticism to help improve your videos
Seems like everybody in the business of lying. The high-end info is incorrect and the 7900 XTX purchasing prices should be set at $799.00 or less. AMD 79++ is a 4080 GPU not a Nv-4090
Agreed. Entirely. Ive just had no time since the 13900K launch to do the back testing required. We have had a few months of crazy launches and Ive been doing a minimum of 70 hour weeks just to keep up with the basics. Its on the cards though ;)

Sapphire is definitely one to look at as an option. If you go look at the s4080 super review you can pick the graphs apart. well worth looking at our website
Personally i'd love the inclusion of more tests that CAN be run with RT to also list values with it disabled, for me a heavy argument remains that RT simply isn't always worth the performance-tradeoff, and if a cheaper card only performs worse in RT, but can still perform similarly or better without, i'd heavily favor it. One example would've been the Watch Dogs Legion results, for me personally.
yah at least 6950XT was a flagship competed with the flagship 3090 Ti, this one doesnt even come near the 4090, badged as x900 class where as its x800 class and its called a flagship for $1k.

I have this card for a month. dang! I'm overwhelmed by its performance. Cool temps sitting 60C with maximum of 75C junc temp at 60% fan speed. Fans is also very quiet even at 60% fan speed.
Not sure, if there is only a 50 to 100GBP price difference then the 4080 really comes into play as the power usage coupled to DLSS/RT and even Frame Generation especially in Microsoft Flight Sim and the slower paced games really come into play. Yes the 4080 is absurdly priced but AMD aren't doing us any favours with the pricing of the 7900XTX and even more so on the XT version. When you are spending a $1000/GBP + you might as well spring the extra to get as much value as you can get and RT is becoming way more prevalent in games by the day.
True, I bought a ZOtac 4080 for msrp a week ago and was debating returning it and getting a 7900xtx but you can really only get them at scalper prices now unless you were lucky and got a card at msrp so im cool with the 4080

No, and it's because the frame delivery was so unevenly spaced that you ended up getting like 10% actual frame delivery improvement for 2x the cost, and that meant no one adopted it long term or twice in a row which means manufacturers stopped putting effort into the features. |--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--| is better than |-|---|-|---|-|---|-|---|-|---|

You planning on disassembling it? Im really curious if they utilize the backplate? It does look like it could dissipate a decent amount of heat.
The old 6900xt used a similar cooler and slimmer backplate and it had lots of thermal pads behind, so I'd say this one also does.

Those charts are way too busy, you need to work on them. Maybe separate each resolution in separate chart. Right now it looks very messy.

My XFX 7900xtx temps: 55º core, and 65º hotspot in 100% use. A beast... low temps and 0 coil whine.

It's still currently $789 for the 2535Mhz model, and $799 for the 2560Mhz model.

We also have to bare in mind how much competing options are going for, the RTX 4080 in the UK is averaging north of £1300, often even above £1420.
The RTX 4090 is retailing for north of £1600 last time I looked, so that's a completely different price bracket regardless.
Now, if the AIB's want to try and actually shift units it is likely they'll be targeting about £1100 for their Aftermarket variants with the OTT variants going for £1200.
If pricing doesn't hit that sort of ballpark then it is unlikely that the AIB's will make many sales in the long run after the initial buying frenzy, because the UK is now in a Recession even if that is not officially recognized yet, and so theirs less potential customers and the remaining potential customers will not want to be spending much more than the MSRP that AMD announced at their RX 7900XTX reveal.
Market conditions in the West will dictate if AMD & Nvidia will continue to make large volumes of sales over the next 9-12 months, and if we look at the way things are currently going it is unlikely that things we will be great for AMD & Nvidia, people simply won't have the cash spare.

If Nvidia knocks off £100 on the 4080FE and 4090FE, to me, that kills the AMD cards if you care about RT in games, and you get more support on the upscale side of things.
@@LND3947 Cheapest 4080 on sale and in stock right now is the GameRock at 1189 GBP. The cheapest non XT is on sale now at 899 GBP but the TUF and the Powercolor Red Devil XT versions are 1049.99 and these are not the XTX versions. I think the XTX cheapest is going to be at least 1049.99 for base model and more like 1149.99 for the better models so right smack into the 4080...Jus buy whatever suits you be it AMD or Nvidia and forget the brand name..

-Powercolor Rx 6700 xt Red Devil (nice looking gpu) to a
-Powercolor Rx 6800 xt Red Devil (looked the same but thicker) to a
-XFX Rx 7900 xt merc 310 - Must say it looks minimal, but great, the only light is from the XFX logo which is white.
Card runs at 390w stock(which is pre oced), runs quite cool,tho the power draw was a bit much for me, tuned it down to 2400mhz, undervolted to 1110mv and lost 5% of the performance and now draws around 280w, it's very cool 60 c on hotspot.
Got one new for 750$. Very happy so far.
My 7900xt overclocked out performs your 7900xtx in Time Spy Extreme. I just want that to be known. I'm #1 in time spy extreme for the 13900k and 7900xt. I saved $500 by not buying the scalped 7900xtx.

I think its whole system usage. My Asrock phantom 7900 XTX got same 3Dmark graphics score with 360W power. Still bit much for sure.

I really recommend going with a horizontal layout for the benchmark readings. It's extremely confusing, and I have to tilt my head to try and make sense of it. They're also too close together and mix in the different colors... you have a recipe for disorientation and further confusion. I'm just trying to give you constructive criticism to help improve your videos

Agreed. Entirely. Ive just had no time since the 13900K launch to do the back testing required. We have had a few months of crazy launches and Ive been doing a minimum of 70 hour weeks just to keep up with the basics. Its on the cards though ;)

Sapphire is definitely one to look at as an option. If you go look at the s4080 super review you can pick the graphs apart. well worth looking at our website
Personally i'd love the inclusion of more tests that CAN be run with RT to also list values with it disabled, for me a heavy argument remains that RT simply isn't always worth the performance-tradeoff, and if a cheaper card only performs worse in RT, but can still perform similarly or better without, i'd heavily favor it.
One example would've been the Watch Dogs Legion results, for me personally.

I loved the XFX design on the old 6000-series. They were black. Want something that fits my grey O11. Now - XFX only seems to have this 7900 XTX Black Edition. And it's silver. The old cards were black and not called Black Edition. Now they have a Black Edition. And it's not black. God damnit 😆😆

I have this card for a month. dang! I'm overwhelmed by its performance. Cool temps sitting 60C with maximum of 75C junc temp at 60% fan speed. Fans is also very quiet even at 60% fan speed.
Pls keep us updated, I've heard xfx cards sometimes go to shit after a few months

Not sure, if there is only a 50 to 100GBP price difference then the 4080 really comes into play as the power usage coupled to DLSS/RT and even Frame Generation especially in Microsoft Flight Sim and the slower paced games really come into play. Yes the 4080 is absurdly priced but AMD aren't doing us any favours with the pricing of the 7900XTX and even more so on the XT version. When you are spending a $1000/GBP + you might as well spring the extra to get as much value as you can get and RT is becoming way more prevalent in games by the day.
True, I bought a ZOtac 4080 for msrp a week ago and was debating returning it and getting a 7900xtx but you can really only get them at scalper prices now unless you were lucky and got a card at msrp so im cool with the 4080

Developers also doesn't focus on this anymore. That was always the hurdle with SLI/Crossfire to get developers to do the extra work..

No, and it's because the frame delivery was so unevenly spaced that you ended up getting like 10% actual frame delivery improvement for 2x the cost, and that meant no one adopted it long term or twice in a row which means manufacturers stopped putting effort into the features.
