      Each new generation of GPUs and their architectures make changes in the number of compute units and cores resulting in bigger die-sizes and power consumption. It's a much linear increase between power and performance than CPUs.
      I can't comment on AMD's 7000 series chiplet design but generally more performance requires more power.

      built a 7950x ddr5 and a 13900k dd4 in the last month the 7950x is throttling a 3090 more than the 13900k for sure and this will be worse with the 7900 or 4000s that said it's very dependant on games and how they use the cpu, on DX12 and vulkan (recent) games AMD wins obviously but on DX11 (the majority of games) intel is noticeably faster and those DX11 or older games are the ones bottlenecked by the cpu because they don't use all the cores, you can have visual confirmation with 3dmark cpu overhead bench, this benchmark shows what anyone who had the two brands running side by side knows, reviewers dropped it because it's unsupported and not very reliable sometimes you get weird results and have to relaunch but it has never been more relevant than 2022

      If your GPU usage is less than 99%, and it's doing that a lot. Then there's a bottleneck.
      This is not necessarily a bad thing. If, FOR EXAMPLE ONLY, you game at 1080p, your gpu usage is only 50%, BUT you're getting 300 fps; then you have a cpu bottleneck.

While I believe the Radeon cards are the better buy (unless nvidia responds with a price cut) if the 4080 does significantly better on thermals, then that opens overclocking capabilities a little more. I'm not in the market for a card. I love to see that you have great options when it comes to picking cards. If you want to spend that top end money, the 4090 exists. If you want something not as crazy, you have a difficult decision between that XTX and the 4080.

    • @pandemicneetbux2110
      @pandemicneetbux2110 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly I'm really, really disappointed and I think it's just nuts that AMD finally snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, bafflingly doing so yet again despite the fact we've been waiting for this and that the entire RDNA2 lineup easily trade blows straight up the stack. Like it was absolute parity. Idk, seeing shit like this is why I decided to spend my PC money on colognes and stuff instead. I just saw that dumpsterfire that was Lovelace headed down the pike and realized I didn't game enough atm to merit it, work too much, game too little, and had a bad feel. Reality turned to be even worse. Oh and plus I have a 5700XT that frankly to make any use of a new graphics card I'd need to either buy Total Warhammer 3, get a new monitor, or both, because at 1440p my hardware still runs everything 60-75fps that I threw at it mainly. SO I still don't need to upgrade.
      But man. What a dumpsterfire. Now I know why everybody's stock prices dipped. Somehow, in spite of it being literally the worst launch I've ever seen nVidia make since the GT 260, it still managed to beat the 7900XTX like freaking HOW did they even manage that???
      BUT, then again, I do take one peep at those TDPs an I'm all like
      >355w
      Yeah no. I can't do much worse than 300w without needing to get a new power supply (I may need to anyway, it's 850w and if I want a 5950x or 5800X3D or something, may tip over keeping in mind I've got a HOTAS that's known to be finickywith power supply, two optical drives, multiple hard drives lots of ARGB SSDS fans etc) and so that'll set me back an additional like $200 on top of the monitor, which was the biggest issue I ultimately had to nVidia prior to seeing the new MSRP is that I'd literally need to allocate an additional couple hundred dollars I wasnt planning to spend just to offset nVidia's terrible efficiency. Although, if you're getting a XTX I doubt you'd care about something like that (and it's still not the 450-600w 4090 that costs both your kidneys so there's that).
      At end of the day though...$1600 for a 4080 that won't fit in your case and catches on fire fucking lol
      It's still the better buy even with the worse performance. I'm just so dismayed by this generation, it's nuts buying stuff like Man in Black was more sensible to me to celebrate becoming a non-smoker than gaming hardware. I guess I always could just pick up a 7700XT later still, but was hoping for a 7800XT and 4k144.

If so, do you think AMD would let an AIO make a card that ups the power limit specifically for overclockers (with no warranty if you burn it up b/c you rand the voltage and clocks too high). Would the onboard RAM be the limiter in that case?

      With how Radeons recent releases have gone, I wouldn't be surprised if it makes substantial leaps and bounds as the drivers are tuned too

      For the lower power draw with enough speed on 1440p , I'd go with the 7900 XT - there's issues with power draw on multiple monitors but it'll be fixed. But hard to make that call when 6800 XT is ~$300 less - sure, the new system is about 25% more efficient, but it's not like you'll actually save power, you'll just get more frames - perhaps more than you can use unless RT is involved; and in that case, is it good enough?

    Drivers must have come a long way on the 7900xt because it is just edging ahead of the 4080 these days from what I can tell. It would be interesting to pit them head to head again to see if the results have changed.
