*EDIT:* You can forget about the issues mentioned 4:07 - 5:28, turns out they're not AMD exclusive and can be observed with NVIDIA as well. The screen flashing "no signal" when going to sleep can be easily fixed by disabling the Ultra Low Power State mode either through regedit (CTRL+F to search for "EnableULPS" and change its value from 1 to 0), or through settings of MSI Afterburner (Settings>General>AMD Compatibility Properties>Disable ULPS). Shaders not compiling in Apex Legends also isn't an issue anymore, the stuttering when you launch the game for the very first time after driver installation has been mostly eliminated. Thats a great choice. Let gen Radeon cards are still very good and also very good on pricing as well. I have seen 6950xts as low as like 700 to 800 dollars at some points. I have a powercolor 6950xt and zero issues and love it. It's a beast.
Thank you for revealing the Truth, on AMD GPUs and their FX CPUs How nv treated its customers during the nf days and having 2 nv cards go up in smoke stock, I moved to ATi and never looked back with the Radeon 9700 Pro. I disregard the tabloid puppet media and slander and do my own research. Never update your drivers every month. Nvidia has had black square artifacts or black screens as of late.
Would love to see you with a full AMD build (CPU/GPU/RAM/ETC)... Also i have worked in the gaming industry and what we NEED to do is BAN forced corporate Partnerships!
Couldn't agree more. It's dogmatic. No matter how bad they treat you. When I got my 6900xt during the shortage, a pair of guys in my discord got 3080's for almost 500-600 dollars more... Couldn't believe it. They don't even use ray tracing on most games they play lol. Just throwing anyway money
But when you've had Nvidia since the very early days and been very satisfied it's hard to change. It doesn't affect me because I always buy the best value Nvidia card at the right time. So I don't feel I'm paying through the nose. My perception of AMD cards is they are louder, hotter, bigger, consume more power and usually come in xfx , powercolor and sapphire versions(not a fan) I'd probably love one if I bought it but when you've been buying Nvidia since the TNT days then it's hard to make the jump. It's not a blind loyalty
In my case, that damn leaf blower that is the R9 290X left a bad taste in my mouth that made me not want to use an AMD card again at least for the near foreseeable future
@@letni9506 Information is transparent nowadays, you could just put like "rx 6600 vs rtx 3060 game benchmark" on youtube and see live side by side comparison, way more objective than just using "perception". Which btw on that example the card has comparable performance but rx 6600 surprisingly more power efficient, even more efficient than gtx 1660 super on actual wattage usage benchmark (not listed tdp). I never stick to one brand, always make informed decisions before hand for best value.
They go from "Just married with hardware honey-moon" to hatred as divorced and declared war. Just ridiculous, don't try to criticise before or after as you will get a label for "taking sides" presumably on the wrong one... If they were 10 makes to choose from instead of one and two little ones (as selling numbers) or none like in game consoles...
Interesting: I used Radeon for 15 years out of loyalty and my only issue was heat, so I became an expert in cooling. I switched to Nvidia 2070 3 years ago and honestly I see no difference. I will be happy to purchase based on value in the future. No more brand loyalty after the last 12 months of irresponsible upgrades and pricing.
I am slowly accumulating storage components both old and new that I can use in builds in present and future. However, I draw the lines on buying cheap storage for things I would only get inconvenienced if I have to rollback to my last bimonthly backup, and more expensive SSDs and HDDs where rolling it back for even the last weekly will give headaches to anyone who needs the latest data.
brand loyalty itself is stupid anyway. Never get too attatched to any major corporations. Not AMD, not Intel, not Nvidia. They are loyal to who paid most, not for the convenience of consumers.
Hi, I want to ask regarding heat... Do you ever have bad experience regarding undervolting? whether CPU or GPU undervolting... I really want to mitigate GPU overheating (because I'm gonna use XFX and the cooling seems quite poor). I'm worried for hardware stability & long term usage.
I switched over to a 7900xt when I built my current PC. This card was SO much cheaper than a comparable Nvidia card, which I couldn't even find at the time where I live. It's been an amazing card for 1440p gaming
@@laggmonstret Its a fucking tragedy, that you need to spend 2000€ or more in gpu when playing 4k. It is just completely stupid. I mean you get 4x playstation 5 for that price :D I just hope that in next generation pricing makes sence again.
I had a RTX 2070 super, and switched to a AMD 6950xt. Had it for about 8 months now. And I must say that I’ve had no issues on both cards. I’m not a tech master but I did build my own computer and trouble shoot issues myself. Honestly I prefer AMD because it’s more price friendly and I really like the adrenaline software better then Nividas. I’ve hear horror story’s in both ends, but I will say that AMD has come along way. And I hope intel improves too. We definitely need more options for GPUs. Good luck on your builds!
Hey ! i have a 2070 Super and i plan to switch on a 6950XT, is it really worth ? I want more fps in games and when looking at the benchmarks 6950 is much better than 2070 Super, did you find that the change was worth and would you recommend it?
@@creatikaaaI'd say if you can afford it comfortably. It's the best high end purchase you can make right now value wise and overclocking fun wise if you care about that stuff.
I upgraded from 2060s to a 6950xt around 3 months ago, I'm extremely happy with my purchase. I did decide to undervolt it and it did wonders for me, I do have the occasional game crash sometimes but I do play regularly 4-6 different games each week. So it depends also on the devs of some games too, since other have 0 issues whatsoever.
Long time Nvidia user here. I've owned 1 AMD card over the last 20+ years. Was a little unsure but I picked up a 6700 a few months ago and it's been flawless. The software is a huge plus. Simple and intuitive. Undervolting and recording are a snap. I'd use it just for the fact that it doesn't require login.
Bought my 7900 XT a few weeks ago and so far i love it. A few growing pains from switching from my 1070, but love it so far. Also great to not be forced into having a pointless account just so i can use geforce experience. Was odd to just be allowed to update my 700+ dollar GPU. Felt like i left an abusive relationship and experiencing love for the first time in years.
Hello there, i am between 4080 and 7900 xtx. I love story mode games and planning to play games on 2k oled monitor. Do you think in ultra settings with ray tracing enabled. 7900 xtx can sport any game with playable fps?
@@eyupatasoy6539 My 7900 XT is playing everything just fine in max settings at 1440p. So you should be fine. Only reason a game would have issues is because the developers are bad and made a shit optimized game. On a side note though AMD cards do struggle more with RT than nVidia, but has not been a mega issue for me personally. The XTX will be able to better RT than the XT.
I just got the 7900xtx. Handles RT just fine. Not the best if you do comparisons to 4090 but it's also much cheaper. I've been enjoying 100+fps on 4K and crossed 200fps in basically every game I played at 2k resolution. Insane card. In a convert. And yeah I can just go I to the software and OC or undervolt or manually make changes within seconds? What???
I've been using my 7800xt since launch and love it so far. I was initially sceptical about amd gpus because of all the bad press surrounding it but I didn't want to buy into nvidia's absurd gpu prices, so I took the leap of faith and decided to go team red for my next upgrade. It does not dissapoint!
Also got this card the Nitro + version and its a great card. Some minor issues like art effects in cod but that is fixed already bye one in game setting and some of the amd auto modes have sharpening i should put that off cuz in some games it doesn't work.
The 7800 XT is by far the best GPU on the market around the $500 price point. Which model did you get? I've had my eyes on the Sapphire and PowerColor Red Devil, but I am still quite content with my RX 6750 XT Red Devil so I will probably wait until the 8000 series to upgrade. An RX 8800 XT with 16-20GB of VRAM would easily last me 5 years before even thinking about upgrading. My RX 6750 XT was more of a sidegrade from my RX 5700 XT.
I bought the 7800xt hellhound and run it in an itx case and temps are around 55 max.It looked to be the best low temperature card on reviews, I also have excellent ventilation. running an ultrawide at 165hz and 1440p. It's an absolute bargain at its price point. If you are wanting to use VR I'd recommend Nvidia.@dabug91
I've been running AMD for the past couple of builds, and have really never had any major issues (outside the norm that is). I just upgraded from a 5600 XT to an XFX Merc 310 7900 XT, and couldn't be happier with the performance and aesthetics of the card. It works great with both Linux and Windows, so pretty much covers everything that I need out of a card
What distro of Linux do you use? I'm planning a build with the RX 7900 XTX, and I was worried about some distros and their support for newer cards. Currently, I use Fedora with an RTX 2070 Super, and getting it to work properly has been... interesting
@@tru3846 AMD hardware drivers are built into the Kernel, the graphics stack ( graphics drivers ) is MESA and the RADV Vulkan driver. Phoronix did a benchmark in Dec 22 on the 6.0 kernel ( the results were disappointing ). Fedora is currently on the 6.4.10-200 kernel. I imagine most things are now plug and play on Fedora 38. Should be OK. ( Yes NVIDIA still sucks. The 435 driver is a lame dog. )
I upgraded from a 5600 XT to a 6700 XT and while not as large as yours, still a massive difference. (though to be fair, had to sell the 5600 XT to pay bills and had to use a 1660 Super for a while)
Been using ATI/AMD cards for forever, and honestly I think most of the folks complaining about Radeon cards especially these days either didn't know what they were doing (didn't remove Nvidia drivers completely before installing AMD etc), managed to get a bad card which happens with anything, or the most likely one to me, they have never used an AMD card and are simply regurgitating the same old crap that everyone does. Glad you tried it out and had a good experience, lot of money to be saved if you don't buy into the hype/bs
There are some valid issues amongst the hype. The 7900 XTX just doesn't make sense at its current price point, given that it runs 40 degrees hotter than the RTX 4080, performs worse, and costs the same (ish)... I have owned, ran, and loved a lot of Radeon GPUs over the years. I always use AMD CPUs, but sometimes Radeon GPUs just don't make sense in the price bracket you are looking at and you have to go with Nvidia.
@@nickdavison9771 The memory does indeed run ~30°C hotter, but the 7900 XTX literally costs around $200 cheaper than the RTX 4080 both on Amazon and Newegg. Unless you care about RTX or productivity, the 7900 XTX could actually be a great deal for some.
I don't use Windows so I find the driver situation fascinating. What do people who have laptops with AMD APUs and discrete Nvidia graphics do if they can't have both drivers installed simultaneously?
@@cakeisamadeupdrug6134 It used to be a bit of a hassle in going into the bios to disable the apu, but these days most will auto detect a discrete gpu and disable the apu automatically to avoid driver issues. The exception to this would be AMD apu/gpu in the system together, I know with my AM5 desktop I can switch between the apu and my gpu on the fly, even using the apu to stream while using the gpu to game.
just bought a rx 7900 xtx and all I can say is that it is amazing and delivers as expected. I also personally love the Adrenaline Software in my opinion it is way better than GeForce Experience since you have everything in one place.
Its been about 4 months since I got a 6950xt and the secret is not to update the drivers often I do it once a month and dont have any stability problems
Have used Radeon since 9700 Pro, so for many years. Had problems once with Subnautica, wrote to AMD regarding my problem 48 hours later they sent me a link with new drivers
Subnautica seems like a fairly demanding game, at least in videos -- I'm more impressed with a 2002 card being able to handle Subnautica at all. Then again, my criteria must not be very high as my system is Haswell with a "recent" upgrade of 4y ago to Radeon RX580 (which was quite old even then).
I love how underated Radeon cards are! I always find great deals and get absolute bang for my buck. I used to be an Nvidia user in the early years, until Radeon became a much better value per dollar option for my gaming addiction
Almost no brainer today with performance you get over dollar compared awful price of Nvidia cards today and Vram big issue that Nvidia still hasn't fixed
Went from a 3060ti to a 7900xtx, drivers has been solid and it's great to have everything in one place :D Been using the overlay a lot when tweaking clocks & undervolting
Hey guys, I just bought a 6800xt from best buy. I have a 3060ti and while she's been great 8gb of vram isn't gonna cut it in the future so I used my best buy credit card and went for the 6800xt instead of the 4070 I originally was gonna buy . I'm not using ray tracing to be honest I'm all about performance. So I'm gonna test it out before I sell my little 3060ti fe.... and and just see how it is. I've watched videos and reviews and everything is great. From what I read and watched not to mention the premium edition of Star Field included.. cant beat it right ?
Nice video, refreshing to see someone unbiased in the GPU space. I went NVIDIA for the first two PCs I built, but this time around I went AMD for both my GF's and my own PC due to the price to performance differences and I can honestly say I'm really happy. If NVIDIA drops their prices I might go back, but as someone who doesn't use ray tracing, I think AMD is more than capable. AMD's Adrenaline software is fantastic and I was able to achieve a stable undervolt while still boosting performance, my 6950XT has yet to exceed 75C on the hot spot after 3 months of use.
I love both brands, my first AMD GPU was Gecube Radeon 2600 Pro 512 MB and for NVIDIA a Sparkle RIVA TNT2 M64 32MB, now I owned a Sapphire Nitro+ 6600 XT and MSI RTX 3060 Ti, both are great cards.
I went from a 3080Ti to a 7900XTX. I honestly had more issues with nvidia, and i’m a massive nvidia fan. But 4090 was just stupid expensive so i tried the red team for once I have been loyal since the 980Ti. But i made leap of faith and am very happy.
@@George-co7yewhat psu are you using and are you using 3 seperate pcie cables and not 2 and using the 2 to become 3?? Hello, long time AMD customer here. In fact, my first custom PC had an AMD cpu with an ATI gpu. AMD was good back then and although they went through a tough spell cuz of Buying ATI right before the economy went to hell in 08, but they have really brought it back these dayz. I currently run a 5950x with a 6700xt and I have been totally satisfied. I believe I acquired the performance at a better price point with AMD. Def worth giving a shot these days as their newest stuff competes even harder.
I upgraded from 2060 to 6800 XT, no problems for $500 at that time, I dont regret it. love the performance, the driver was good, and stable. Glad I didnt put my money on 3070 back then.
You did the right thing, i bought second hand 3070 in q4 2022. Then seeing a lot of xomparison test between 3070 and 6800xt, i immediately trade my 3070 to 6800xt. Best decision, now 4K gaming is more playable. Unless you do some productivity work with your GPU, i may suggest stick with nvidia. The computing cores are still superior than amd can offer
@@muhammadadnanhutomo naah, I only play games on pc, but gotta admit, amd still sucks on ray tracing, If only, rtx 3080 at the same price with 6800 XT, I'll took 3080.

@@mintydog06 I’ve upgraded to 6700XT when GPU prices were at its highest in 2021. I wanted 6800 but it was 35% more expensive and offered 15% +/- more performance over 6700XT. I’ve found good deal and got Sapphire Nitro + version for £650. Sold Vega 64 Strix OC for 515(bought used for £220). Now I would go with 7900XT, but if you want good 1440p performance 6700/6750XT or anything more powerful will give you noticeable performance uplift. All depends on your budget and cpu you gonna pair with. Just make sure your system is balanced and you’re gonna have great experience.
I went from a RTX 2060 to a 7900XTX and have had little issues with the card and the issues I did had was usually caused by a driver bug and was small. This was my first time using a Radeon card and the software feels superior in some ways to Nvidia's such as how much better AMD Adrenaline is compared to Nvidia's interface but can lack in other ways.
@@Timmeh_The_tyrantI have annrtx 3070 and I kinda miss not having to download afterburner to undervolt my gpu. Also undervolting in amd sw is waay easier.
@@Timmeh_The_tyrantThis is just my opinion but to me Nvidia software is a little more straight forward and easier to find what settings you are looking for than AMD. But AMD has built in undervolting and overclocking options in so it wins there. Other settings are easier to find and more intuitive in Nvidia's software but neither one is bad.
So i switched from AMD to Nvidia about a year ago...the experience withbmy rx5500xt wasnt ideal but it was better than most people give credits to amd for. I have had issues a few times with the drivers and i had to use ddu, but nothing that ruined my experience. Adrenaline sofrware works perfectly and it is a much better experience than with the nvidia app that is bearbones. Than i switched to nvidia to a 3080 and omg, the performance improvement was night and day but again, the app is prety useless. It doesnt even record the average fps in games that i play and it doesnt include a tool for overclocking, undervolting, managing stuff is painful with nvidia. I am looking forward for an upgrade in the next year or years back to amd, maybe to a 7800xt or to the next generation 8000 series when it will come out.
Upgraded my Gtx1070ti last month, to a 6750XT. Last AMD gpu was a r9 290, and i loved it. I never had an issue with Nvidia, always thought it had amazing drivers and compatibility. I have to say this Adrenalin panel is terrific, and i uninstalled Afterburner since switching. PS: Always use DDU before switching from Nvidia to AMD (or reverse), you'll avoid major headaches and it takes 5min..
My last GPU was an R8 380 that I had a significant OC on (GPU and VRAM). Current card is a 6950 XT and I have it massively undervolted just because nothing taxes it at all yet (still on a 1080p 60hz monitor). Maybe when I upgrade to a 1440p monitor or a 1080p with 165hz refresh that'll change.
I went back to Nvidia (high HZ 1440p multidisplay, Vega 64 with HBM eats virtually no power at 2D; RDNA cards since often run hot in 2D with more than one display. 3080 is no where near as efficient idling as Vega 64, but still is an order of magnitude better than RDNA1/2/3). I miss Adrenalin so much loading up the 20 year old Nvidia control panel. But yep, besides that I often forget I switch...
I switched from RX6600 to RTX3060Ti since I needed the OptiX for Blender Cycles rendering. It has been a pleasant experience so far, but I gotta say I much prefer Radeon Control Panel over Nvidia Control Panel. If somehow AMD succeed in implementing an RTX/OptiX competitor (HIP API rendering isn't as fast as OptiX at the moment), I'll readily switch back.
I am still running my 1060, which I bought new. After all these years it is STILL going strong. I was holding out recently for a price point drop on the 4080, but since Nvidia's bs lately I decided to purchase a 7900 xtx. Money talks, and I used mine to tell Nvidia to kick rocks. lol Edit: The 10 series cards by Nvidia are SOLID. Great vid!

I like to squeeze as much performance into small cases with custom water cooling. Adding the cost for a custom block for a given gpu means, I want to use that for as long as possible. So at least 3 years without it getting too slow to annoy me. My water-cooled 3090 FE is super tiny and still runs well enough to skip 4000 or 7000 cards.

Been using 6700 XT for a year and a half. XFX is the model I have (like your 6600 XT) and I love it. GTX 660 was my last NVIDIA card then got XFX RX 480 then upgraded to 6700 XT. I love my AMD GPUs.

Same GPU here. Although it is a stock XFX model. AMD are the value choice. Nvidia are just too greedy these days and their 4060 Ti is shameful. Especially the 16GB version for 500 dollars and a 128 bit bus!
Over the past ~15 years I've had 3 GPUs from each brand, and while AMD did have some issues (eg. the mouse cursor corruption that lasted so long it became hilarious) I have overall had more frequent and more significant problems with Nvidia. Games crashing when alt-tabbing, drivers causing fans to stop under load, broken browser hardware acceleration, corrupted desktop apps, none of these things ever happened with AMD. Add to that the much better software experience and the better value for money, I can't imagine myself buying Nvidia again unless there's a massive change.
Strange how people are willing to overlook NVidia's decades of anti competitive/consumer practices and oftentimes subpar quality products; then act all surprised when the 40 Series released saying "Huh, NVidia were the Evil ones this Entire Time!??".
I've been using Nvidia GPUs for the last 8 years or so, but I also have a PC building side business and I've been absolutely amazed with the Adrenaline software since the release of the 6000 series. I've been running into VRAM related issues with my 3070 at 1440p in some newer games, and I'm strongly considering buying a 7900xt now the price has come down quite a lot. I've seen first hand that the AMD driver issues are massively exaggerated and I honestly think they are offering better value for money in the current generation (at least in the entry level-upper midrange categories). After building so many AMD systems I'm looking forward to finally making the switch myself.
As someone who has always had Nvidia , I want to move to a Radeon merely because my PC isn’t super high end. If you have infinite budget, NVIDIA wins on the high end… for everything else , Radeon.
Throughout my life, as I experimented with my personal computer, I've had the opportunity to utilize Nvidia on only two occasions. The first instance was when I assembled my initial PC, and the second was when I exchanged it for another Nvidia card. However, when I became aware of AMD, I decided not to switch back to Nvidia for a straightforward reason: I've never encountered any significant problems with any of my AMD cards. Consequently, I plan to remain loyal to AMD unless I encounter a major issue that necessitates a switch to Nvidia, much like your own approach.
I switched from a gtx 1060 3gb to an rx 6700 and been loving the overall experience even the software side, I used to experience frequent crashes but later found out that it was due to a memory timing overclock which made the card unstable and then fixed. From then on no more crashes so far. AMD allows an extensive overclocking suite within the gpu software itself, it even comes along with a custom fan curve option
I am a Radeon user, and I will say, I don't think the criticism is ENTIRELY unwarranted. I have owned the 5500 and 7600, and my experiences have been this- 5500 4G: Worked flawlessly, but a bit underpowered. 7600 Hellhound: Way overperformed for older games, but the driver software seems to have a VERY weird factory overclock that WILL make it crash under load, This is fixed by simply setting a reasonable GPU clock speed in Adrenaline or Afterburner, but is frustrating because the card wants to return to it's unstable factory overclock on occasion, and it's kind of hard to tell if AMD or PowerColor is the source of this issue as I have seen some 7600 users with higher end versions of the card having the same issue, but others having absolutely fine performance. So I think the issues are somewhat earned, there are some frankly STUPID issues, but *also* it's not as if Nvidia is immune to stupid unforseen issues either, see the great cable melt-ining. In the end I am more comfortable with AMD due to lighter, open source drivers and getting to enjoy ALMOST reasonable component pricing.
I bought the exact same 6800 last November and I'm as happy as can be - I think XFX really nailed the cooler design, understatement with no "gamer"-blingbling, just classy. The card runs very cool and quiet and is really a performance beast for the price while being much more energy efficient than it's big sisters. I also had zero driver issues with it. The only negatives are a bit of coil whine, but it's low and not really annoying, also fixable with FPS limiter, and the lenght of the cooler which required a new case here. Still, lovely card. The whole AMD driver issue talk is mostly an urban myth, I never had any more problems with AMD than with nVidia, prefer AMD's software and my last two AMD cards have been a joy (I had the RX580 before). Sure, there's Raytracing performance and DLSS 3, but actually that really, for me, affects only one single game which is basically a nVidia marketing tool: Cyberpunk. I played that one 3 times already, it also looks really good with no RT, and so far couldn't find any other title that would really require an nVidia card for extra eyecandy.
Have owned an RX 6800 XT since 2021 and been super happy with it, having come from owning mostly NVIDIA GPUs in the past, with which I was also happy with. For me everything else is comparable but the UI is a massive win for AMD, Radeon Software is 2 generations ahead of NV CPL and offers everything in a single package (which you can also customize during install as in leave the Relive stuff out if you don't need it etc). RT performance is better on NVIDIA and DLSS is better than FSR still, but those aren't deal breakers for me. Also worth remembering RT performance is not "bad" on AMD just worse than on NV equivalents. I upgraded from an RTX 2070 to the RX 6800 XT and got better RT performance too as a result (without using upscaling).
@@Rayichiban the card or drivers had issues with memory clocks and variable refresh rate that made me switch to NVIDIA after all, but that was really the only thing, otherwise quite smooth sailing. The issue I had seems to be related to displays that use so called non-standard timings so it may or may not apply to you. Also I've heard some people have similar problems with NV and resolve them by going AMD so... go figure, lols Anyway can recommend, although if you can getting a 7800 XT or 7900 GRE might be a better choice.
This was an honest review and I appreciate the transparency. Honestly I think both companies make a good product. I switched from an RTX 2060 to a 6700xt and haven’t looked back. I’m always looking for the best bang for my buck so it was an easy switch. When NVidia decides to return their pricing structure back to reality I’ll consider them for my next upgrade. Great vid.
exactly what im do, i was planning to buy rtx 3000 series, but nvidia pricing were skyrocket due to demands, since then the price keeps fluctuate which make me frustrated, so i decided to bought the rx 6000 series, planning for replacement too once the price goes 'normal'
Have owned 20+ AMD GPUs over the years, and have had nothing but driver and thermal issues, alongside age-related issues. In the similar number of nVidia cards I've owned, I've never had any driver problems, purely the aforementioned age-related hardware issues.
I find that the 6000 series and newer cards seems to be the most stable. Can't speak for the 5000 series. I used to have an RX 480 and would have drivers timeouts like twice a week that would require a restart. My RX 6800 as well as my 6700xt is still yet to give me any hiccups.
@@UranusfromBrussels if you want better 1440p performance and can sell your current card to make back some of what you spend on the new card, then sure! I actually found a 6700 xt for $200 and sold my 1080ti for $240. But if you play at 1080p, anything more would be overkill.
@@Lukes-PC-Flips thanks for the feedback. I’m on 1440p, 1080TI was a legend. Nvidea has made it difficult to upgrade. Was thinking of a 4070 but that’s just one more gb of Vram and it’s 650€ in Belgium 😕
@@tbm7301Yeah the 400 and 500 series sucked in my experience. Much much better now but professional processes on AMD are still so bad that Intel is ahead of them in many aspects now. Hopefully that changes.
I swapped from a 1080ti to a 6900xt years ago. The performance is still mindblowing and I have never had any driver issues. I will say that out of the box performance for Nvidia GPUs is wayyyy better, after cleaning/tuning my settings in Adrenalin I picked up between 10-14% gains in FPS, my 1080 ti picked up about 4% after the same treatment. AMD has quirks but with a little TLC you can get use to them and save a few bucks.
@@evan.rianto Biggest gains will be made in reducing Voltage, bring it down 5 - 10 and stress and repeat until it crashes. Frequency doesnt need to be super high Mines set to 2350 min and 2450 max. I set the Ram Timing to fast and bumped it up to 2100. I didnt add any power and my Voltage is set to 1105. I changed from 8700k 1080ti that I bought on launch for a 5800h 3070 laptop (it's like 3700x rx6700 performance with dlss). Now that I don't need the mobility anymore I opted for 7800x3d 4080.
I made the switch with the current gen when I returned my 4070 and swapped it for a Red Devil 7900 XTX, and I have to say, I am glad I did. NGreedia can keep their cards.

I use rx 580 8gb for roughly 4 years now. ofcourse its outdated right now, but no issues with stability of pc. I don't update drivers often, usually few times per year manually and everything is good. Im not a fan of amd or nvidia i just buy w/e is the best at the time (price to performance). People who complain about amd cards are very deep in nvidias marketing pocket and probably never owned amd card lol.
I upgraded from my aging EVGA 3080 to the Sapphire Nitro 7900 XTX. My first AMD card since they were ATI (5870). I'm very pleasantly surprised with my Sapphire's performance. Only been about 2 weeks, but there's been no game crashes (1440p Ultra) or any unpleasantness from this big beautiful beast of a GPU.
Been with AMD CPU and GPUs since 2008. The price to performance compared to Intel and Nvidia has always been better in my opinion. AMD has never been "the best" until very recently, but they sure are reliable and cost effective over the competition
It's been a while since AMD/ATi has released a series of GPU as good as the RX6xxx ! Bought a 6800XT last year, it does Windows, Linux and gpu passtrough like a champ. I'm extremely satisfied by this purchase. Even now 2y after release, it is still a strong contender.
RDNA1/2/3 was great for plain gaming setups with one display, but god they are terrible to live with if you run 3 displays; including a 165hz one. And I say this as someone whom loved their Vega 64 for 5 years, and loves their 5700XT (in a one TV media machine)... and missed Adrenalin so much. Heck even old Crimson and the CCC before were vastly superior to the terribad NV Control Panel+Geforce Experience cr@p.
A really big problem I always see with computer parts, is brand loyalty. There are so many people out there who will buy an Intel processor for 600 dollars when it performs worse in games than a 400 dollar one from AMD, just because the first processor they owned was an Intel. I will never understand why people choose to fully support one corporation and completely boycott another when both of them do the same thing to make more money off of people. Before you buy any computer product look at different reviews and opinions, look at the benchmarks, and find the best combination that works within the budget.
Just picked up an XFX 6950 XT a week ago. Aside from the high power usage (which undervolting helps), I've enjoyed it, and am fond of the design. I upgraded from a 6600XT which had replaced my RX 5700. Before that I had nvidia cards in laptops. I will continue to shop for best value, and if that's AMD, so be it.
I'm also interested in the 6950 XT or maby the 7800 XT. I wanted to buy the 4070 first, because it's so efficient, but the 12GB vram. . . From RX 5700 to -> RX 6600 XT to -> RX 6950 XT is a rly weird upgrade path 😅
@@OraOraOra The 6600XT was a replacement, not an upgrade per se. I sold the 5700 for more than I paid for a 6600XT. The 6950XT was a true upgrade, though
@@garbuckle3000 Okay gotchu. I remember the crazy GPU Prices, my friend sold his 5700 for 800€!!! I want to get the 6950 XT or the 7800 XT, what do you think? I mean performance is similar, right? But the 7800 XT got the newer archetechture and is less power hungry. Btw, do you undervolt or overclock your GPU?
@@OraOraOra I think the 7800XT will be 5-10% slower than the 6950XT. Prices for the 6950XT have gone up again in my area, though, so I'd probably go with 7800XT for the new features and lower price. And yes, I undervolt; my XFX has too much coil whine stock. In hindsight, I should have waited for the 7800XT, but I got a deal on my card and I wanted Starfield for Sep 1
Solid content, as always! Keep 'em coming! As a fellow switcher myself - no regrets. Sure, overall there's a bit more roughness with drivers but nothing I couldn't fix by installing an older or newer version which only takes what - 15 minutes with a DDU wipe? But man, video recording straight through driver is incredibly convenient,
As someone who has used a 6600 for around 2 years, I can confidently say that Radeon has few to no issues. I have encountered none over those two years. Plus the adrenaline software is a major plus. I love the experience and would recommend.
I switched from Nvidia and Intel based systems to And Ryzen and Radeon, quite honestly I have never looked back. I have not had a problem thus far after over a year of ownership. Giving yourself time to do complete uninstalls when updating everything works fine. AMD do things differently and if you give yourself the time to acclimatise properly, the experience and cost savings are good.
I've switched completely to AMD as well after doing Intel and Nvidia for ten years. Raytracing aside, you get better bang for your buck. I have a 7800X, comparable to a 4070Ti which is over $100 more expensive. I'm an FPS snob, not a graphics snob, and if your money matters to you, Radeon is the way to go.
In preparation for Starfield I built a computer using a AMD 7700X CPU, and a 7900XT GPU and I have had zero issues. Coming from an Nvidia graphics card I honestly can't tell the difference between either and personally as long as it gets performance for a good price I'm happy.
Nvidia focuses more on the premium aspect and on the productivity aspect, that's what these gamers fail to understand. Nvidia products have those prices because people, mainly the ones using Adobe products, are willing to pay the difference ebcause AMD doesnt have CUDA cores. It's that easy!
Love my RX5700. Yes there were driver issues at launch. But since three years it runs like a champ. Love the Adrenaline software and the ease of use. And the best thing are the 8GB VRAM & Performance for the little money. Nvidia just can't deliver that.
Amd user for a decade, loving it .. from rx480 to 6900xt never had issue that prompt me to change.. yes not perfect but as you stressed out either nvidia is. Amd are just competitive performance wise but saves you few ££ for a negligible margins
First GPU for me was the 5600 XT, which is still going strong and not really had any significant issues; looking to upgrade soon-ish! (will probably stick with AMD as i'd prefer not to "sign in" to use the GPU UI ...
I also had been using Nvidia for several generations without ever considering AMD. However, this generation I decided to get a 7900XT once the price dropped to $750. It has been a great experience, really. My only complaint is that FSR is not nearly as good as DLSS.
Why would FSR be as good as DLSS? They arent even the same thing at all One is Super Resolution while the other is AI-assisted Super Sampling, AMD currently does not have anything like DLSS (Radeon has AI-assisted performance stuff but so far anything like DLSS are missing despite new GPUs coming out with the technology to run such a thing)
The biggest issue is AI support with AMD. If you're on linux it isn't as bad but it still seems behind Nvidia. In general my rx 6800 has run everything really well. Especially at 4k. I haven't had any driver issues with Windows or Linux.
I switched from RTX2080Ti to RX6950XT and I am very satisfied. I have zero problems with crashing and the performance is stunning. The Sapphire Nitro+ is amazing in terms of build quality as well as noise and temperatures. Much better then previous low quality Gigabyte with rattling fans, loud fans and hi temps
I Grabbed a 6800 last year when they first came down to around $500 USD. It's been a wonderful card for me. I use a 1440 UW 100hz panel and am very pleased with the card. That said, I upgraded from a 2060, so it was a HUGE leap in performance.
I've been running a 6800xt since a few months after its launch, and i have had zero issues with it, and i've been very happy with its performance at 1440p
This is also my experience with my MSI 6800Xt. With the appropriate amounts of VRAM compared to nvidia and the fact it is almost half the price of the 3080 which it matches in performance it was a no brainer. I love the AMD software and the fact that i don't have to use Nvidia control panel which hasn't changed since windows xp. Ray tracing is not worth the massive frame rate drops on either brand so i think unless you do productivity, people buying Nvidia at the moment only do due to brand recognition.
Currently in the process of building my PC at a local company. My Build was $2300 which was pretty good! Pairing a 7800X3D and the 7800XT seems to be a good combo and when I told some of my friends it was either “Radeon GPUs are shit” or “Have fun blue-screening” and I told them that any GPU would get a bad driver. With my research I’ve seen that the AMD GPUs are slightly better than the 40 series but are also cheaper which made it easier for me to decide since if I wanted a good Nvidia I’d have to pay more of an absurd price compared to the 7800XT
First time build and I am running a 6700 xt 12gb and I love my card and Adrenaline is an elite piece of software. Your videos helped me go team red, thank you. Could not have asked for more out of this card.
I currently have a 4090, but I had a 6600XT and 2080 Super simultaneously in my two PCs before. I'm a long time Nvidia user as well but I fell in love with the Radeon drivers and never had a problem with my 6600XT paired with a 5600X. I will definitely be buying an AMD GPU to go into my 2nd PC since I sold both the 2080S and 6600XT recently.
This is exactly what I've encountered last year... Been using Nvidia since GTX 560 up to GTX 1070... Was thinking of getting an RTX 3060 or 70 at least but then the prices that time was outrageous! Was able to nab an RX 6600 XT to try out, since it's very cheap than the Nvidia counterpart and didn't get the more powerful 6700 or 6800 since I'm still testing AMD out and it just feel I'm in uncharted waters, so I can quickly change out if ever that AMD turns out to be a problem... Ooohh boy was I wrong... More than a year now and 6600 XT is still strong... No issue at all... With Ngreedia still coughing out ridiculous prices I'm planning on upgrading to 7800XT or 7900XTX if ever, let's see... Then I'm putting this 6600XT to my daughter's rig....
I agree with you on the XFX Merc cards. Had an XFX Merc 319 RX 6900 XT for a few years. Not only are the XFX cards well made, they're just really aesthetically pleasing cards (imo)
They are great - been rocking a Merc 310 7900xtx for about a year and it has been flawless. Runs cool, is quiet if you limit the fan speed to 50% (no reason to let it go higher than that), and annihilates every game I throw at it.
I switched to AMD very recently from a RTX 2060 to a RX 6700 XT second hand and ,oh boy how I love this card. Im on Linux and Radeon cards are compatible out of the box as drivers are included in the kernel. It's such a breeze.
I used NVIDIA since the TNT2 all the way to 1000 series. Then I switched to AMD and so far I do not want to switch back. Drivers are way better than Nvidias IMHO. They are not perfect but no one is. I had a couple of bad drivers or three too. I tried crossfire for a while but then decided it was not worth it. I wish they were more competitive with NVIDIA so more people realize they are good products and usually with better price per frame. I am waiting for the 7700 and 7800 cards and see how they stack and more likely get one of those. I have had an R9 295X2, 2 RX 580 8Gb, a Vega 56 and now a 6600XT.
Last year , I bought RX 6600 (around September - October), and since then, I've had a few issues. Some being fixed by an updated driver, or some by simply using amd cleanup utility (pretty much the same as DDU but for AMD driver only). BTW, sometimes Windows can f#@% up things, so it is best to do a fresh re-install of windows when things aren't fixed. I have used AMD GPU's for the past 4 - 5 years (with around 6 months being stuck with a 750 Ti until it died), so I can say that I am pretty much surprised by AMD in those 4 - 5 years, and definitely they have made me to not look back at Nvidia in those years. If next time I am gonna upgrade, Intel or Nvidia will offer something better than AMD at pretty much the same money, I will go with one of those, if not, I will keep on AMD.
Windows likes to overwrite AMD drivers with ones it thinks are better, which often ends up with half-working driver installation and you needing to update/clean install them again.
30+ years of IT and had Nvidia since they exist. I got a used ref RX 6800 for 400 euros 6 months ago and I am really happy with it. It runs almost everything I play at 4K High/Ultra 60fps and I love adrenalin.
I switched to AMD to play Black mith Wukong and the latest driver simply broke global ilumination ,it's unplayable This type of bug only increases the bad reputation that AMD Radeon has, I have never had this type of problem before with Nvidia.

I recently purchased an XFX RX 6950 XT, at $550 at my local best buy it was a no brainer. and XFX and Sapphire make the best Radeon Cards. Mostly since XFX got bullied by nvidia and they just went straight ATI right before AMD bought them

I've always just gone for what was in budget and most cost effective for rasterisation. My mistake with the 6900XT (upgraded from 1080ti) is that I forgot about my amateur rendering using Nvidia Iray. Due to this when I change again it will most likely be for Nvidia. The 6080 or something
Switched from a 1070TI to an 6800 4 months ago and haven't had a single problem. I really like the software. It's way better then Nvidia. And the fact that you don't need to make an account and pay with your privacy too is how it should be.
The main issue I've had with AMD is simply that smaller developers sometimes don't have AMD testbenches and so compatibility issues show up. Other than that, yes, occasionally a nonsensical/broken driver makes it through AMD's QA process, but I mostly recall occasional issues with legacy 3D applications and not modern games. In terms of thermals and other stuff, my RX 580 unfortunately had a cooler with fans seemingly designed by baboons, so it ended up pretty loud trying to stay cool, but the chip itself performed admirably and my 6650XT has been essentially flawless.
My last 4 graphic cards were from AMD, the only kind of problems I had were minor driver issues. I love Adrenaline Software. R7 260X, RX460, RX590 and RX6700XT.
Nvidia simply has the superior feature set (DLSS/Frame Gen/RT Overdrive) and that feature set makes games look better. It also has superior game support for its feature set. That feature set is a direct result of Nvidia's architectural choices. E.G. Tensor and RT Cores. Even Intel supports this feature set..... For Radeon to ignore doing hardware accelerated upscaling and RT in todays gaming environment is beyond me. They've now slipped way below 10% Steam Users relative to the 40 series. *Radeon is losing market share as we speak.*
I got XFX RX 580 4G from a friend few weeks ago. First of all, I am shocked about how good AMD software is. It have everything you need, so I said 'goodbye' to msi afterburner. I didn't experience any problems in games yet. After undervolting the card draws ~ 30W less power and runs about 7° C cooler. Keep in mind that fans aren't spinning much, barely reaching 2000 RPM at full load. The claim that Radeon is "Bad" is just wrong and maybe, outdated. We've seen that AMD can improve performance with drivers over time (something that Nvidia never does, or their drivers are already at fully capacity).
same GPU but from Sapphire nitro+, I limited it to 1000rpm as that's all it needs (with 1V 1300mhz), 2000rpm are really loud and the firmware of the fans is such that it takes a looong time to spin down
My brother can’t seem to wrap his head around the fact my RX6750XT is faster and overall better than his RTX3060Ti He keeps trying to claim that because he has a Ti model his card is somehow faster than something 1 and a half tiers above it. And says that my RX 6000 series GPU doesn’t have raytracing hardware. How the duck?
The 3060TI has 3 terraflops more than the 6750xt and a 16 gigabytes per second advantage over the 6750xt in memory transfer speed. 3060ti also has 4864 shader units, which is more than the 2560 shader units the 6750XT has. The downside to 3060TI is it only has 8 gigabytes Vram instead of 12. The 6750XT has a higher theoretical power because it consumes more power, and has a higher clock rate. But also the 6750XT is more expensive than the 3060TI, so it should perform better. If you paid the same price as your brothers 3060ti, you got a great deal.
What I love about Radeon is it's Linux driver support, heck I got higher performance with open-source driver than the one from AMD 😅 I went from Radeon R7 250 (6 years) to Nvidia GTX 1650 super (2 years) then to Radeon RX 6600 (less than a year). What I miss from Nvidia driver is it's game filter, I can't find something as robust on AMD driver.
The problem with Radeon is that they are mostly gamer focused cards. The people that stick with Nvidia no matter what are the ones into content production. They use software that have as a requirement CUDA compatibility, or at least perform significantly better over Nvidia hardware (Blender, Meshroom, AI, etc). These people are forced into Nvidia and have no other option but stick to getting milked or take a risk by buying used. If AMD had anything to offer to these people, things would be more even. When Intel came to the GPU market, I was actually expecting them to tackle the production market. To me, it made no sense that they went for the gaming market... It's the artists and programmers that have no alternatives to Nvidia, why they went to the already saturated gamers market is beyond me...
Hello! I've been looking around at my options, but if I could fix what I have that would be cool too. I bought a hp omen laptop a few years ago, it has a Ryzen 7 and a Nvidia 1660ti in it. I haven't been using it that much but I recently realized the Nvidia card wasn't working. Like at all, it wasn't showing up in the performance tab of the task manager. Well I tried reinstalling drivers, updating the bios, I ended up un-installing and reinstalling windows. Is it possible that HP and Nvidia worked together to take away the privilege to use my graphics card? Or do you guys think I'm just being stupid and there's something I'm missing?

I'll never buy a laptop like the HP omen ever again though, learned my lesson.
I went from a stock 2070 to a 6950xt reference card. I went 6 weeks with an annoying issue of it crashing(black screen then it disabling in device mngr). At first it seemed like a driver issue but it ended up being a power supply issue. I had to plug a 2nd pcie cable into the gpu instead of using the daisy chained extension on the single pcie cord. Hope this helps someone.
After figuring out the power supply or cable issue. I generally enjoy the card. It was a good price especially since I got discount when I bought a processor too. It's also a general performance jump of at least 70% from what I've seen

How nv treated its customers during the nf days and having 2 nv cards go up in smoke stock, I moved to ATi and never looked back with the Radeon 9700 Pro.
Nvidia seems to have a brand loyalty comparable to Apple. It is overwhelmingly psychological in nature.
My perception of AMD cards is they are louder, hotter, bigger, consume more power and usually come in xfx , powercolor and sapphire versions(not a fan)
I'd probably love one if I bought it but when you've been buying Nvidia since the TNT days then it's hard to make the jump.
It's not a blind loyalty
In my case, that damn leaf blower that is the R9 290X left a bad taste in my mouth that made me not want to use an AMD card again at least for the near foreseeable future

Had AMD most of the time and never had issues 25+ years and @nickochioneantony9288 i have xfx right now and have no probs with the heat 65c max
Brand loyalty on a single pc component is stupid imo. At least with consoles, there are exclusive games and features.

I upgraded to an rx480 a few months ago, it is still perfectly capable of running every game i need it to, at 1080p
I have owned the 5500 and 7600, and my experiences have been this-
5500 4G: Worked flawlessly, but a bit underpowered.
I'm planning to switch my 3070 to rx 6800xt, how's the card treating you lately? Do you have any driver issues?
@@Rayichiban the card or drivers had issues with memory clocks and variable refresh rate that made me switch to NVIDIA after all, but that was really the only thing, otherwise quite smooth sailing.
The issue I had seems to be related to displays that use so called non-standard timings so it may or may not apply to you.
Also I've heard some people have similar problems with NV and resolve them by going AMD so... go figure, lols
Anyway can recommend, although if you can getting a 7800 XT or 7900 GRE might be a better choice.
Great vid.

Nvidia has zero incentive to do this, their fanbois will buy their product no matter what, and they know it.
Have owned 20+ AMD GPUs over the years, and have had nothing but driver and thermal issues, alongside age-related issues. In the similar number of nVidia cards I've owned, I've never had any driver problems, purely the aforementioned age-related hardware issues.
I went from gtx 750 to 1070ti to 1080ti to 6700 xt and I could not be happier! I have way less issues with AMD. I went from intel to AMD as well!
I find that the 6000 series and newer cards seems to be the most stable. Can't speak for the 5000 series. I used to have an RX 480 and would have drivers timeouts like twice a week that would require a restart. My RX 6800 as well as my 6700xt is still yet to give me any hiccups.
Was it worth it from 1080ti to 6700xt? Because I'm still on a 1080ti. Currently looking into a second hand 2080TI

I will say that out of the box performance for Nvidia GPUs is wayyyy better, after cleaning/tuning my settings in Adrenalin I picked up between 10-14% gains in FPS, my 1080 ti picked up about 4% after the same treatment.
Well said.

As a fellow switcher myself - no regrets. Sure, overall there's a bit more roughness with drivers but nothing I couldn't fix by installing an older or newer version which only takes what - 15 minutes with a DDU wipe? But man, video recording straight through driver is incredibly convenient,
Got myself an RX 6950 XT back in Nov. and I couldn't be happier. 100% satisfied with it. A ton of power for a great price.
I got a Vega64 at launch and am still using it. Zero complaints.

I also had been using Nvidia for several generations without ever considering AMD. However, this generation I decided to get a 7900XT once the price dropped to $750. It has been a great experience, really. My only complaint is that FSR is not nearly as good as DLSS.
Why would FSR be as good as DLSS? They arent even the same thing at all

We've seen that AMD can improve performance with drivers over time (something that Nvidia never does, or their drivers are already at fully capacity).
same GPU but from Sapphire nitro+, I limited it to 1000rpm as that's all it needs (with 1V 1300mhz), 2000rpm are really loud and the firmware of the fans is such that it takes a looong time to spin down
My brother can’t seem to wrap his head around the fact my RX6750XT is faster and overall better than his RTX3060Ti
He keeps trying to claim that because he has a Ti model his card is somehow faster than something 1 and a half tiers above it.
What I love about Radeon is it's Linux driver support, heck I got higher performance with open-source driver than the one from AMD 😅
I went from Radeon R7 250 (6 years) to Nvidia GTX 1650 super (2 years) then to Radeon RX 6600 (less than a year).
What I miss from Nvidia driver is it's game filter, I can't find something as robust on AMD driver.
Switched from GTX 1070 to RX 7900 XT. Had ZERO problems on both Windows and Ubuntu Linux.
Or do you guys think I'm just being stupid and there's something I'm missing?
could be power plan settings or your gpu might have bit the bucket
În Nvidia panel select the gpu as primary and only gpu to use in any case. That way the nvidia is always used by windows
@@johnodei618 thank you! I figured something out that worked, I installed Linux Mint, and got the driver's mint recommended and boom my mobile GPU is working again.
@@skippy2710 yeah, but in Linux you are limited as what games you can play
@@johnodei618 facts. But I tried everything I could with Windows, this was last resort, HP, Nvidia, and Windows, were all working together to try to force me to get a new laptop. You're right, I will be limited to what games I can play, but at least my GPU is working and the operating system is recognizing it and using it.
