Today we talk about the most underrated Game Design element of them all, the Gameplay Loops. Game Loops have the ability to capture the player and immerse them in the world, keeping them engaged for hours on end. The secret to a fun game is to first understand what it means to have a great Game Loop.

Every time one of your videos get recommended I forget how few subscribers you have and I get equally as surprised every time. These videos are so high quality.

what you talk about is not gameplay loop but game design itself
gameplay loop is: you go out to mine minerals so you can craft yourself better equip so you can go further to mine better minerals
second loop would be: you collect plants/monsterparts so you can brew potions for healing or buffing so you get further
now you have 2 loops that compliment eachother and "advancing" in one loop will help second loop as well - that means those loops are intertwined. But its up to a gamedesign if both loops are necessary to win the game, or if by focusing on just one or the other is good enough to reach endgoal
customizing rooms on looking at score is not gameplay loop

Loved this video! I think it's important to step back and analyze everything a game has to offer from time to time.
I also really enjoy games that allow me to step out of the gameplay loop from time to time. For example, I once spent an hour riding my horse in The Witcher 3, turning off the hud, and just looked at the game world and how well it was constructed. It wasn't the most fun I've had in the game, but definitely memorable.

Oh I absolutely agree. That’s a side of game design I wish I could go back and talk about more in the video, maybe I’ll make one about that in the future 🤔

I'm currently working on an indie game the part about Stardew Valley helped so much, it's easy to overlook game loop while game devving.

Please, what is the track playing on second segment (super mario bros). Also great video, for me the gameplay loop is the very base, and everything else should be considered having the core game loop in mind.
