    FYI - you can plug the USB connector for the 10C EVO into an external battery (in your jacket pocket, perhaps?) and power it that way. Been there, done that. This is also true for the original 10C and the 10C Pro. Love your vids! :-)

    Last spring I discovered highway 141 around Gateway Colorado. My wife & I rode the entire length of highway 141 & it’s all beautiful but then section around Gateway is really spectacular. Canyons, waterfalls, mountain meadows... some of Colorado’s best, & that’s saying something!

    Hi I have used GoPro and now use the Drift Ghost's coupled with Autocom and have been happy with them for the last 4 years. The biggest benefit is the charging ability whilst filming and with a 32 sd card I can film for 6 hours. Great for the Tours. I really am keen to move into bluetooth and like the Sena 10C EVO. I have heard that the battery life is 2.5 hours filming at its best so my question is can it be charged whilst filming by using a battery pack? Thanks in advance and your videos are great btw.

    Thank you for reminding me why I love living in the PNW specifically here in Portland. I have seen a number of places and none compare to here for variety and beauty. I know you folks that live elsewhere will legitamately disagree and that is fine. You should love where you live. After 56 years living in and around Portland Oregon, I have never gotten tired of living here. To you Amanda , you wanted to know what my favorite scenic hiway is.... You just took a ride on it in the video and reminded me of some things I have not seen in a long time. As of the date of this comment 08/22/2020 I am less than 48 hours from taking my written test for endorsement. My Riding class is already under my belt and my card is in had proving I passed. Presuming the weather holds for Monday. This will be the first place I head to relive some scenic special memories. I am definitely in love with where I live.

    In Northern Ontario Canada the most scenic hwy is the Trans Canada Highway 17 which runs along the Lake Superior coast. Lots of beautiful vista but not of people and my closest next town is 300 kms away. If you like trees and natural beauty than this is another place to be but you are already in a great place. As a Brit now living in Southern California, and about to take delivery of my Triumph Scrambler early next week (after almost a decade off the bike), I don’t really have a favourite road here as yet. I’m going to have fun finding one though!
    Back in Blighty, I always loved tootling around Snowdonia and The Lakes. Scotland is also great for getting the bike out - weather permitting. Planning on doing the North Coast 500 this September with a couple of mates. On bicycles though, unfortunately!
    Thanks for the great content!

    I use the old 10c Pro, as far as battery life goes, i plug it into a battery brick i store in my jacket and i have literally used it all day.
    (Just got to remember to unplug it when you take your helmet off.)
    I tried Gopros and found them way to finicky to set up and use.
    Bought a Hero 8 tried it for a week and sold it.
    The Sena's are so easy to set up and use with the added bonus of being able to talk to your friends on the move, no brainer.

      @@ytascoobs I use a USB cable with a magnetic connector so I can keep my battery pack in my jacket and keep my helmet weight as low as possible. With the magnetic connector it's not a problem if I forget to unplug ut before taking my helmet of, it just snaps off.

      Good idea ! I luckily enough have a 12v adapter port on my africa twin so I can plug it directly into the bike, but thats a great idea too. I dont think the Sena 10C Evo can match the latest GO PRO for video quality, but it does a lot more than that, so as an all round simple to use system with audio and comms features, its hard to beat.

    Amanda, can you run the device and record whilst plugged into the charging source? If so you could run a power-bank on your helmet and power the camera from that. I run a 10,000mAH power-bank on my helmet for my Sony AS15 and this gives me about 7-8 hours of continuous use. Power-bank is attached to my helmet with 3M Dual Lock velcro tape and I don't even notice it although to be precise, there is slightly increased wind noise from that side. I sealed the seam line of the unit with liquid cement and have the power-bank mounted so the connectors are facing aft and angled slightly down and have had no trouble with water ingress even in torrential rain.

    Favorite scenic highway closest to home(Kansas City metro, West side): K5 from 435 to Lansing, KS. US169 SE of town is mighty fine as well; hang a right on K58 for some great views and country roads. Jumping over from there, you have K4 out of Topeka, K57 South to K177 all the way to Cassoday, KS; a bit west of there is K150, amazing hills, and open country.

    I may have missed it Amanda but is the 10c waterproof ?

    • @AstheMagpieFlies
      @AstheMagpieFlies  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey Norrie! I can say I have ridden through a handful of rain storms here in the PNW so far with no ill-effects. I'm sure it's pretty important to make sure you seal the charging port (which is placed along the top of the unit) before you take off to ensure water doesn't get in there. lol
      You definitely can't dunk it in a river, since it wouldn't be hard for water to penetrate through the port for the headphones/mic. However based on my experience with the 10S (which I have never bothered to remove or cover when it was raining and have zero issues, I would say it was water resistant enough to survive riding through most rain storms we encounter on the road. Maybe not a downpour (that you really wouldn't want to ride through anyway).
      I will say that the Water Resistant status is not listed anywhere on Sena's website or other reviews that I can find.

    How's battery life while recording? I have the original 10C and the battery is disappointing. If I only use it for music or lasts all day. As a communicator perhaps 6 hours. Start recording and battery life is 2 hours top, 1 hour on a hot day. The 10C however does allow you to record and charge at the same time, so I connect a charge cable while riding and it's ok. Does the Evo allow you to charge while recording?
    And my favorite scenic highway near here is New Mexico state route 159, that climbs over Emory Pass from Caballo Lake to Silver City via the Gilla National Forest. It's very scenic, with good elevation changes, tight switchbacks east of Emory Pass, and nice high speed sweepers on the west side.

    • @AstheMagpieFlies
      @AstheMagpieFlies  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      As stated in the Video, Recording time is about 1.5-2 hours depending on how long of the clips you're recording are and what settings you have on. Battery life on the Comm lasts all day for me, even if I am talking to someone else.
      Others have said that you can have it plugged in, I have not personally tested it.
      Oooo! New Mexico! I've still gotta get down there to see White Sands! I imagine it's packed now that it has been declared a National Park.

    Ability to change out the battery would be a game changer. If you use a USB battery and plug it in, it can’t charge while recording. It can pull off the battery, but not charge. Turn off the unit and it does charge.
    Closest scenic highway for me is US2 going over Stevens Pass to Leavenworth. Pretty ride.

      It is only compatible with cards up to 128gb I like the samsung U3 Cards. I think if you're recording continuously without a battery pack plugged in it will probably last about two hours. But I only record short clips like 1-2 minutes at a time. It's also way easier to edit that way and you stretch your battery life without having to plug the device in. You can be plugged in AND record at the same time.

    I love that historic highway ride up the Gorge to the falls. Do my best to ride it every time I'm up on the north end of the state. One of my favorites for sure. As for the Sena, how would you compare the image stabilization compared to the Hero 7 or 8? Also, is it possible to charge the unit while recording? Thanks. Oh, favorite scenic ride down at the south end of the state : Highway 66 from I-5 (Ashland) up over the Cascades to Klamath Falls. Especially the west end, from the valley floor, up the west face of the Range. Spectacular! Also, an excellent restaurant up on top (Green Springs Inn). A fun ride, for sure. Almost any road over the Cascades or Coast Range is an epic scenic adventure.

I'm looking at replacing the battery but oh lord is it a lot to do. I was thinking of the 10C pro. I am spoiled to listening to FM radio and using the music as I blog. Have you reviewed the 10 C Pro? Keep it going!

    Three great rides here on the California Central Coast. Highway 1 along the coast from Cambria to Monterey is awesome(but sometimes busy). Also a fun ride is Highway 58 from the 101 to Interstate 5, not much traffic and lots of great scenery. Finally, Highway 25 from the 98 north to Hollister. You can extend that great ride south from the 198 to the Mission at San Miguel by taking a tiny little road called Peachtree Road that has a view of the Arroyo that is killer with almost zero traffic.

    One thing that annoys me about the 10c Evo is that it announces that it is starting and stopping recording and it is caught on the video. Previous 10c models didn't do this. Have you found a way around it?

    Did you use any filter when editing the Sena footage? It looked good regardless.
    The GoPro stabilization is hard to beat, unfortunately. As such, I'm sort of trapped in a weird Stockholm Syndrome kinda situation with them. And I prefer front mount......
    My favourite Scenic Highway near me is the Captain Cook Highway between Cairns and Port Douglas. Only ever driven it in my car. I am going to take the trip on the bike soon though. It's an epic, winfing road with the Barrier Reef on one side and Jungle covered mountains on the other. Just have tp wait for the wet season to piss off first.......

    • @AstheMagpieFlies
      @AstheMagpieFlies  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No Filter, Everything in this video is untouched (at least on the visual side) because I was in such a rush to edit XD
      I mean there is the Osmo which I'm not gonna lie, I've been thinking about since I've had so many corruption issues with the GoPro now. It's gotten to the point that I can only use like the first 10 seconds of every clip I take (no matter how long or short) and the rest of it is glitched or won't even play. Bleeeh. I've tried a lot of stuff, even taking it to a repair guy, nothing has fixed my issue.
      Thanks Paddy!

    Excellent timing for your video. My last minutes "working" have now been occupied! 😆
    I guess 90 east for my currently location is the best scenic highway. Hugs the coast. I see it still can't do 24fps huh? That's one of my complaints with the regular 10c. It's stutters a little if you record at 30fps but export at 24. So even though I use all my other cameras at 24, I keep premiere/exporting at 30fps. I found that looked best vs exporting at 24. I think I might get away from using my 10C to film if possible, and just use for comms or filming if other options are dead. The battery issue gets me too. I had to keep a solar USB charger on me, and rode with plugged in a lot. Otherwise it was always dying when there was great stuff to film!

    • @AstheMagpieFlies
      @AstheMagpieFlies  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      lol Glad I could entertain!
      Yay! Coastal Highways!
      As for the stutter, since I don't know what your sequence or export settings it's hard for me to try and fix that for you lol I will say I don't shoot anything at 24fps but I do export at 24 -shrug-
      All things have their pros and cons, but I'm just a fan for day trips because I know if I record something I'll actually be able to use the whole clip vs. GoPro where I'm lucky if I can use the first 10 seconds of the clip before GoPro glitches or straight up corrupts the rest of the file. I've tried factory reset, formatting every sd card before use. Every. Time. Bleh everything about recording on the road is frustrating lol I live for editing everything afterwards :P

    • @ScramblerStories
      @ScramblerStories 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AstheMagpieFlies The problem with shooting at 30 but exporting at 24, is it takes away every fifth frame. Depending on what you're doing, it might not be noticeable. But I saw/see it in riding footage so now I can't ignore it. Which is ironic, because I'm lazy and could be doing other things better than I am. Oh well! hehehe

    I've got an older SENA SMH-10 on a 3/4 helmet and a GoPro mount on top. I hate wearing a full or 3/4 helmet, preferring a 1/2 for 90% of my riding; but I'm also on a big bore cruiser. What little vlogging I've done just wasn't much fun for me. The GoPro 4 Silver with the SENA BT Backpack worked OK, but in the deep south I had to put the perforated door on the case otherwise it would overeat and shut down within 15 minutes. I had to put the camera on top of my helmet because it was too much weight over my brow and caused the brow pads to rest on my glasses, which in turn put pressure on the ridge of my nose. This 10C Evo might be the answer! I figure with a good dead cat I can make the boom mic work on my half helmet.
    BRP is probably the closest official "Scenic Highway" but it's still well over an 8 hour ride for me from home. Most of the time I'll just ride to the Alabama Beaches from Mobile, AL on the new'ish Baldwin Beach Express. Peace and love.

    FWIW, I have the 10c pro, and to solve the battery life issue, I simply carry a small battery bank in my jacket pocket with a short cord attached to the camera. Since the 10c pro can be charged while recording, this setup easily lasts all day long. I'm not certain, but I would imagine the evo has the same capability as the pro.
