Thanks for posting guys. I think for occasional shots you will be able to use the unit. But losing 30% of the screen viewing the side of the helmet would detract from your blogs.
...also, did you leave the blue film cover on the camera? Looks like there is a blue hue to the footage.
Nope. Film taken off. Think we need to reposition
Maybe the white of your helmet is causing that ‘bluish’ hue.. it does look like you’ve left the film on and certainly seems to be affecting the quality. Will be interesting to see if it improves when you position is further forward??
I use this on a daily basis with students receiving with the 10s. Quality is very good and I have set mine up so it can charge whilst recording therefor able to record 4k all day long. My biggest moan is the location of the charging port which isn't weather proof whilst being used
Good rewiew guys
I just bought My sena 50s and it took me a solid evening to understand and to get the updated version on the sena.
I have a 10c Evo and i agree with all you have said, the apps are atrocious, the controls need to be simplified but after you get used to all the little things it is a great little camera/communication device.
You could have moved it a little bit forward, it would have cut out more of your helmet.
If you put a dead cat on the mic it stops all the wind noise and popping.
The ultra HD camera is a lot better quality than the 1080p makes a big difference.
You can also set it so it doesn't record the music your playing.
Battery life i find really good even when recording in ultra HD.
The app doesn't like connecting on any computer I have tried both Mac and PC and they are both a load of tosh, i find if you turn it off and on while it is searching for it helps, sometimes.
They really need to work on that.#
If i don't use it for vlogging i put it on a 15 minute loop recording, like a safety cam.
Thanks for the kind words and also the tips too. Will try them :)
The added info was great. Cheers👍
what im most impressed by is the sunshine if this is in England. to an Yankee thats a rare sight.
Great video! I've Just received the 10c Evo and as a novice to action cameras and comm systems, it is INCREDIBLY frustrating what you have to go through in the app to get to the camera! I totally agree that it is complicated and feel validated that someone with your experience feels the same. I'll continue to tinker with it and hopefully will grow to like it more.
As always a well-detailed review. I'm just glad i went over the Cardo. and a separate camera that bolts on to my Nexx helmet.
A good review Toby for a product perhaps behind the times, the post proves it.
Sena are not quite as good as the price they command. I've used their unit they sold go with the Schuberth for the C4 for some time, constant issues with water ingression.... Big Woolly pants SENA. Your R&D must be California ✌.
Cardo however do exactly what they say in their site and in my personal experience have always been a reliable source bike com's.
I bought my first Cardo in 2010 the Scala rider G4 and used it daily up until I purchased the Schuberth C4 and com's kit which is as waterproof as a newspaper.
I have ordered a replacement Cardo..😃
What I like here is the compact unit that would remove one bulky camera from the side of the helmet leaving just one device mounted. That is probably the only thing I like as the cons would be substantial. The image of the camera is quite bad, some hue there and it seems to have an issue with bright sunlight, like a bluish tint. Also there is the issue with the battery life. Camera will drain this unit quite quickly leaving you without the rest of the device capabilities, so no bluetooth, no intercom, FM radio... For me, as I use the camera purely for safety reasons, the loss of the intercom and bluetooth after an hour and a half is just not worth it. I would have to carefully balance the use of the camera to conserve battery life which is not ideal. Don't know if everything will work with an external power supply but I imagine it's capable, yet that still requires cables, external batteries... I'm sure as the battery technology progresses these issues will disappear, and this is a great way forward, but not quite there yet.
And a very fine review sir, thank you! Cheers!
also don't know if your recording in 1080p but the quality is fare better when set to 4k .
my main problem is battery life on the camera is pants.
but as a all in one unit its hard to beat.
Great review of a seemingly tricky piece of kit. As someone pointed out 12 page quick start guide is a bit of a clue.
Sound and image started off on the bike really clear. Unfortunately wind affected the noise as you pointed out, but also looking at a clip from 15mins in against a clip near the end, it appears the lens was fogging over. Maybe the sunshine had the affect, (can't remember what it looks like tbh), but that's a shame really as all in all it may give people second thoughts about investing in the kit.
Yeah a few bits that need some improvement but hopefully we can get round the wind and sun glare by re positioning the mic and unit. Time will tell
It might be the location of the camera picking up the white helmet but the ability of the video software to compensate for different lighting conditions does seem suspect. For long sections of the video you seemed to be wafting through Cornish mist! Not convinced to change my trusty drift ghost just yet.
The thing about recognition by a computer has often to do with the cable you use. You probably have to use a USB cable with an 90 degree angle on it. I found this with a TOM TOM gps device which didn't get recognized untill I took a cable with that angle on it. Perhaps it is the case here too.
Or that it’s not geared up for Mac
That was a very good review. It's 2 years on from when you published this and Im sort of hoping SENA have improved a few things but I thought the video quality was pretty poor TBH. Definitely had your mounting point to far back as anything coming from the Right was blocked by the helmet. I would be interested in how you feel 2 years on about the unit.
I had exactly the same problem with my Mac recognising the device. After contacting Sena they said it was probably that the Sena Device Manager Drivers are not being recognised. To fix the issue they suggested the following workaround which did work. - Go to Privacy and Security -> Input Monitoring. Put a check mark on the Sena Device Manager. It's a simple fix when you know what the issue is but so frustrating that you have to contact Sena to find out how to resolve it. Annoyingly the manual and online instructions are totally silent about the issue, which must be very well known to them.
Thanks for the video! 💯
Camera quality appears foggy.
The app(s) is a nightmare of un-intuitive confusion. Sena please fix you apps to be intuitive and simple.
Nice video rider!! Well, owner here of SENA 10c Evo, 2pcs actually!
Well, I would like to mention the following, and as far as I have searched around, many riders have the same feeling.
Well directly to the main point, seems to be a really BIG ISSUE to make a combination of SENA with G. Zumo GPS, phone calls, communicating with the second device, sharing music, etc ....
Really -Really -Really Too many "button combinations" needed to REMEMBER to make the job done. And guess what all these actions while you are riding!!? Ahh... Sena why so complicated? On the other hand, if you are not a"gadget freak" which is pretty cool, and you just want to enjoy the riding at the right time not sometime after, from your sofa it's really OK, catching the moment with just one click. I see many riders dressed up like Robocop, with 2 - 3 maybe 4 cameras, plus all the charging equipment, etc. simply trying to enjoy the trip ....after the trip from their sofa!!
Once again seems to be a nice product but ..to many button combinations to make the job...
keep riding fellas!!
Thank you for another very informative video. The Evo has a lot of positives and until watching this I was about to buy 2, however given the very high price I would have thought Sena would have had resolved the app firmware update issues and other user functionality points you raised before release.
The recharging port location is non-sensical, as if Sena's R&D centre was located in the middle of the Simpson Desert (Central Australia where it might rain 1 day a year!). Can see that being an issue especially when the warranty runs out.
Agree with too many buttons and possible over complication, might be ok for some, but paying attention to the road and more so the actions of other road users is my priority, you don't want to be trying to figure out which button is for what, more so with winter gloves and needlessly taking your attention away from the really critical stuff.
The riding vision appears like the lens has fogged up?
And no you are not thick, it is overcomplicated. So I will now hold off until Sena improves things
Trust me when I say don't use them in the rain. They fail in the rain however great in dry weather. The mic port is a design fault and should be rectified.
Hello thanks for the video. when you connect the camera via usb to your computer. Try turning on the camera (not recording) i did this on my pc and the camera acted like a usb stick. I could access all the videos. Cheers. Also i would like to say when using video battery goes flat really quickly.
Thanks for the tip. Will try that
Very informative video Toby. Well done. Two issues for me, the very poor app performance and video quality seems really poor from this video. Definite hazing of the video images.
Great review, however other than the issues you’ve highlighted I’ve found the video quality to be extremely variable, even in bright daylight it replays very dark. I’ve tried to resolve this issue with Sena, however it appears that nothing I do resolves this.Any chance of you having a go at working this out? Big thanks and keep on keeping on dude. Mark
yeah of course, when we get out and about soon! we will try it out on our videos.. the black strip I put on the helmet seems to be helping, although its a shame that we cannot get the unit closer to the front of the helmet :(
Omg I’m exhausted lol
It's not just that Sena, my Sena 10S hasn't been updated because my Windows computer won't recognise it. Maybe now you have "put it out there" they will do something about it. My app also won't work correctly if not on WiFi... So that makes it pointless as last time I looked I didn't have WiFi on my bike. Surely if that unit has WiFi it can just be updated automatically? No need to connect to a PC?....
Did you take the film off the lens?
the bad thing is to lose a lot of the video framing due to the interference of the helmet.
Instead of use with a motorcycle, can this camera direct stream video via wifi or Bluetooth directly to a pc (recording optional)?
not sure John, but you can view it on your phone via wifi, so im guessing that if you can connect it to your pc it could work
mate. I'm not thick either. but I am still trying to figure out my 10C evo 3 years after buying it ! it's too complicated
glad it wasn't just me then
Did you connect it to your TFT display and the BMW Nav App?
hey buddy, nope. tried so many times to use the BMW app, and for what ive tried, its been a little pants to be honest.. I connect the headset to the sat nav and also the phone to the sat nav so that the sat nav takes all of the strain
This is way too complicated. The first clue was the “Quick start” guide that is 12 pages long! What is a good, easy to use bluetooth headset without a camera?
1:37. Though it says 4K 30 FPS, that is definitely not 4K. 1440p isn't 4K. That's 2560x1440 = 2K. 4K would be 3840x2160 ... or 2160p. This is either outdated specs or misleading specs by Sena. In 2020/21, 4K camera technology is not prohibitively expensive and there's simply no excuse for a $400 camera not to have true 4K recording option and 256 GB compatibility, at least. So, hopefully, the specs are just not correct.
1080p and 2K are generally good enough, except for zoom in on license plates. If you want to zoom in to grab a license plate in case of an accident, etc., then you really, really want that 4K resolution.
if you want to check if you're recording, just simply press the video button and if it's on, it'll take a picture and you will hear that its taking a picture, geeeeeeeeeezz not really hard.
You are right of course
Picture quality not as good as Garmin set-up, not for me.
The serious problem is it sits on the left of the helmet...
I take it this was filmed a few weeks back. The "things have calmed down a bit" comment hasn't aged well with vast patches of the country being thrown into tier 3 restrictions and no way out on the horizon.
Yes Nate. Filmed a few weeks ago
Glare from white helmet is ruining video quality
the footage looks horrible.
It looks like there is a greasy coating on the lens.
can the camera man keep his mouth shut please.
You are the only review that has ever mentioned all the difficulties I have struggled with.. I am going to return it and get a refund
