- I've been using the Sena 10C EVO Bluetooth intercom with integrated 4K camera for about a year now. Here are my thoughts, musings, ramblings and opinions on how that year has been!

By far the best review I've seen of this product. I've been hesitant to buy this, but want an all in one unit for my commutes into London. Had a drift camera which died and was too bulky. This seems like the best solution out there and your comprehensive review means I can now buy with confidence. Thank you!
Thanks very much BF. Sounds like it’ll be perfect for you. Having had a Drift Ghost S in the past, i can happily say that this unit is far less bulky than the drift and the video is probably of better quality too! The intercom and music capabilities are just a massive bonus! 😜
Nice review. I've just ordered one. I just wanted a simple-to-use helmet-mounted cam to capture parts of rides. The fact that I can also get the turn-by-turn directions from my TomTom is a big bonus.
It’s absolutely perfect for that. I was always happy with the audio quality and the battery life, but having a camera too was a huge extra!

Sena needs to do something for their reputation. Practically all moto vloggers are recommending the Cardo these days.
I don’t see that they need to do anything. They have a very good reputation! The products are good quality and they work well. Cardo are just more aggressive and proactive with getting vloggers on board.
@@AndyManCam That might be the case, but it leads to a situation where practically every internet research of the Sena vs. Cardo type gets you results that are extremely biased towards Cardo. I will buy a Sena myself (have a Nolan helmet, and their N-Com is made by Sena), but from a marketing perspective I think Sena should do better.
I agree with you there, although i also think it is mainly a problem with the vloggers. If their opinions are purchasable, then they suddenly have no value any more. I’m about to spend some time with a Cardo, but I’ll not be acting like a puppet! Real life experiences and honest opinions only!
@@AndyManCam C'mon Andy I would say 99% of the big motovloggers opinions are purchased and biased. To think they are impartial is ridiculous.
Even our big UK motovloggers are all purchased. The bikes that are lent to them, the gear, are all treated more than favourably than the man who would have to buy these products to critique them.
I've yet to hear a motovlogger to justifiably really pan a bike that has been lent to them to ride.
Everyone has a price unfortunately.
I have yet to hear a motovlogger review say "don't buy this bike it's shit because"..............
I would love to hear an honest appraisal like that.
There is a definite gap for real no bull reviews.

@@sleepindragon179 I wasn’t entirely disagreeing with you. Of course some of them are giving biased opinions and that’s a very bad thing. And of course some of them are skirting the line between honesty and not pissing off the manufacturers. I also agree that vloggers shouldn’t try to be journos. The magazines and big websites can do that. We’re supposed to be the honest little guys without an agenda. The problem with your thoughts about nobody saying that a bike is rubbish, i believe, is that nowadays there really isn’t such a thing as a bad bike! There’s no point slating something, just to be contentious! But I’ve heard many people highlight the downsides of otherwise good bikes. Lamb Chop Rides is particularly good for finding the not so ideal features of machines that he otherwise thoroughly enjoys. Impartiality also comes at a cost, both financially and in terms of content. I’ve recently been very honest with a brand that wanted to work with me long term, but weren’t really up for fitting to my ‚ways‘. So they now don’t talk to me anymore and as a result I’ll not get to show the viewers and more of their stuff. It’s all a delicate balancing act, especially if you’re trying to put food on the table through content creation. But for me personally, honesty and integrity stand above selling opinions to get free stuff. As shown by this video, where the unit was given by Sena for free, but I still talked about the bad with the good. Which, incidentally, is encouraged both by Sena AND Cardo. They want real life opinions, but i guess many are scared to give them 100%. For me, 1 intercom unit is not enough to buy my favour! 😄
Hey Andy, thanks for the review - very thorough. I loved the helmet comment and the reference to Frau Garmin... such poor manners, she never waits for a pause in the conversation. Looking forward to warmer weather here in Canada's Capital, and couple of good rainfalls to wash the salt from the roads. Take care and keep the rubber side down!

I hardly noticed mate! 😜 It would be great if they could play nice together! And that Interphone is set to be the first brand with multi compatible mesh capability. Or so i heard.

My experience with Interphone so far has been mostly good too. Sound quality was the only letdown, but I think they're sorting that out too. [EDIT] After a quick look, Interphone have partnered with Sena, so they will only be compatible with Sena Mesh. Still, a step in the right direction!

Thanks for the awesome review and leaving food for thought if I do really need such a device packed with so many features to get familiar with. It's going to be a nightmare messing with some of it and ending up frustrated during a long trip! What an incredibly informative and well orated piece of vid. I've had my Evo since 19 and think its tops. I don't 'vlog' and its just for me but does all I want it to and then some - which this video explains to a tee. I have this camera/intercom. I agree with all you said about it but one thing you did not mention was the software you get on your pc.
I found it frustrating , to say the least to actually get my pc to recognise my Sena.
The conclusion to this was that I needed to directly connect to my PC, if you try through a usb hub or even the front port on the pc, it wouldn't find the unit.
The Software is a little dated in my opinion and could do with a good overhaul.
I would also like some sort of remote device to be able to control things without having to be able to read brail with gloves on.
One thing you forgot to mention is being able to 'rolling record.' In other words ,you can set the camera to record like a dash cam on a car.
it can record for a set amount of time then it over records so for instance it can record and keep the last 15mins of footage and you will not run out of memory.
Something also to mention for people that maybe do not record in 4K a lot it can fill a 256 memory card quite quickly so if you are going on any multi day trip, without being able to download and format the card, you will need quite a few cards and that can be expensive for the quality cards you need for 4K.
In conclusion:
The camera is good, but you can get a lot better. It could use some stabilisation and maybe auto horizon levelling it can make people feel sick watching your vids if you move you head a lot like you should on a bike.
The sound quality is great, like you said but connecting to other intercoms other than Sena is a BLOODY nightmare.
The software is 'clunky' and out of date.
For ease of use, as in press a button and your recording, it is great.

I connected it to my Macbook just the once at the beginning and everything seemed to work pretty smoothly TBH! 😜 Thankfully I didn't need to connect since then. I did mention briefly that I haven't used loop recording, so that's why I skipped it. But yeah, audio faultless!
What you are saying at 8 minutes, I have the same! Phone connected, Garmin connected and then a terrible noise at the video. Very bad. Maybe it would help if I just don't connect anything, I don't know or just one device at the time.. Nice vid! Thanks for sharing!
Very interesting, just got the Cardo freedom 4+, mainly for the gps directions and nature voice commands, so far so good

The fact that it takes decent footy and you can get the audio out of it makes it the best camera in the world. Go Pro Hero 8 recent owner talking (a present) - and the protocol, faff and size of the whole business not to mention after-market parts needed make me want to take a sledgehammer to it - image stability be damned.
I feel your pain mate! Every time i plug in the mic adapter i say a prayer and scratch my head at the sheer stupidity of it! But the audio out of the sena is great. I’ve been using it almost exclusively over the winter. I’m going to miss it while I’m Testing out Cardo stuff.
@@AndyManCam The methodology is this: You switch the '8' on, you plug the mic into the adapter. You then plug the adapter in to the '8'. Then you go in the menu, de-select the mic option you want for one you don't want, then re-select the mic option you want. Then it will work. The theory is: The '8' will not detect the external mic if you don't plug the adapter in 'hot' - but equally, it interprets the mic being plugged into the adapter (if the adapter is already plugged into the '8' with the camera 'on') as a short-circuit - and will then disconnect it. Needless to say, if you just leave everything plugged in as you left it without observing the protocol, it will not work next time you power up. I have tested every permutation. Thanks Go Poo. Wow. Thats a complete nightmare. My 8 has so far worked with the Mic adapter plugged in from the get-go. I’ve had a fair few dropouts from the 7 though. Possible yours might be a dud?
@@AndyManCam It's possible - although observing the protocol always works. I suspect it's a mic compatability issue. Which is odd for a passive device. Certainly a chip/firmware issue. Why the zarking fardwarks can't they just give us a 3.5mm jack socket ? I thought the mini USB adapter on the '3' was bad but this is worse ! However - it's not all bad. You can get audio out and power in - simultaneous - which is going to be really good for big long rides in the south of France ;-) The SD card is now the limiting factor. And that's good news. And of course, the footy quality is not an issue. Oh no.

I have heard of folks having problems with particular brands of mic too. Madness. Maybe it's looking for a specific resistance/forward voltage threshold? In any case, it's far too complicated!! But why put an expected piece of hardware into the camera, when you can charge people for it later!

Great stuff as usual Andy, I converted to Cardo after my Sena speakers just stopped working one day on my 20S evo. Never really looked at the camera option but wish I had for ease of recording intercom conversations. Syncing audio is such a pain.
Cheers mate. Yeah, when it works it's fantastic! The dual vlogs that I've used it for were incredibly easy and the sound quality was great too.
wow quite impressed that audio was still intelligible at top speed on autobahn! shame video quality is only ok. if they upped that a bit I'd get one.
In terms of Audio, I was really very impressed in pretty much all areas. I agree that the camera image needs a little work to be 'production' worthy.
My goodness Andy how did you do that? Hell of a lot of info in one vid that covered just about everything to do with comms, Bluetooth, interface, switchgear and general how to with said unit! Well done.
I've recently upgraded to a packtalk bold but when on my ktm superduke gt it tends to constantly pick up the ktm my ride connection to the dash even when I disconnect it, its beyond frustrating having the phone, comms and bike all connected and trying to sort the volume for a song after answering my wife's call that I didn't really want to answer via voice command after getting it all sorted already to the way I wanted on restart of bike only to find I haven't been able to isolate my Bluetooth connection solely between phone and packtalk and not to the ktm my ride app (which is dam near ready to getting uninstalled) 🙈

This is indeed a great review but I was waiting for the Satnav section because that would probably be the only connection I would use with the 10C, as I do a lot of touring Europe on my own and sometimes appreciate Satnav directions when navigating cities etc.

Its OK as a backup but I do like the stabilization of the GO PRO, the sound is brilliant. Most of what you said just went over my head anyway!! I like a color saturated bright image with lots of stabilization, Teapot and the other Andy? are using the horizon leveling models now, I like them a lot!
There's no denying that the Gopro's footage is kinder on the eye to watch! I'm excited to see what (and if) the third generation of this intercom and camera setup will bring.
No doubt the ease of use and the technical output will appeal to you, IE put your helmet on and go!! As you pointed out easy on the eye is what suits me, that's my main reason for watching the travel vlogs.@@AndyManCam

Half right S J G. I’ve actually had the stock mirrors back on for the whole of Winter, so that i could refit the SW-Motech handguards to try and give the heated grips a chance during the colder rides. This video was actually recorded AFTER the ride around Hamburg (in the HJC RPHA 70). It was simply a case of only wanting to fit the Cardo once, so instead of taking the Sena off of the Nishua, i just left them both where they are. Now that the Sena is finished with, the Nishua can go into storage until i need an enduro helmet again. But don’t worry, the bike has a new set of better fitting bar end mirrors on the way for spring/summer.

Couldn't quite get the feel of the non stabilised camera footage as the forward clips weren't quite long enough and the movement of your head was probably greater as you were being expressive when talking. If you were making a home movie with longer clips would you start to get seasick watching it? Would any post production stabilisation software help - I seem to recall in the distant past you mentioning this?
I presume the video output is MPEG-4.

Looking back at my older footage, it's not much better. But we've all been very spoiled with the smoothness of cameras lately. You certainly could stabilise it to a degree. Check out the footage from Ian's camera in the Croatia trips. They're mostly lightly stabilised, because he has a particularly wobbly head! But too much and the helmet starts to wander about in the shot and look weird. Yes, MP4 format.
2 years using the 10C Pro and never knew how to change to the next song 😂
This devices have a tone of hidden features that require strange button configurations. I hate that.
What are your favorite audio settings? You can do several things. One of them is filtering wind noise. At what level do you use it? And do you like it?

But naturally i can still tell you before then that it’s the Oxford Mondial jacket in ‚Tech-green‘. www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/433501/#/27945,3255,0 I really like it so far. Great workmanship. Good fit. Looks cool. Vents work really well (i was wearing the same jacket in my last video too and it was much warmer). I’ve not been able to try the waterproofing yet, but others have had great success so I’m feeling positive!
Surprised you haven’t dibbled with the DJI osmo , Action cam Andy , very versatile, and I much prefer to go pros , and very reliable, however thanks for the senna review Shane uk 🇬🇧
Don't have either Sena or Cardo infact I have nothing 😎 but this looks like a good piece of kit for the new motovlogger. Basically plug and play without the faff of video/voice evilness. 👍
It certainly is a very feasible option for a quick do it all solution. In fact I used only this for my Hyperstrada, Monster and CB1000r test rides.
@@AndyManCam yes I did notice when you were doing those vids.. I remember just before the Ducati vids you had just retired the sony's and invested in the gopros then next thing you've got this thing strapped to your helmet 😂. Makes total sense now. 🤯🤯
Haha! The fog is lifted! It was a bit of a bonus actually as I always have to hide the cameras when I do test rides. But not with this one! The quality wasn't up to the usual, but then any footage is better than no footage!
Perhaps a little better contrast/light/dark would be ideal but just as a trip out camera it is very good from what I can see here.
I have to agree with you there. It's a bit over contrasty. Perhaps even just 2 options would be good. One 'poppy' one and one 'natural' one.

Yes there is! The 50C. It has stabilisation on the 1080 video and mesh capability for the intercom. Apparently a longer lasting battery too.

Great video Andy, very informative, I'm in the process of researching intercoms, but I don't need the camera....I'm thinking about getting the Sena SRL2, only because my second lid is a Shoei neotec 2 and the SRL2 was designed in conjunction with Sena and Shoei.... And is hidden in little compartments in the lid
If you don't need the camera, you can most definitely get better comms from one of the newer devices without. And the SRL2 is basically a 20S, so far more feature rich than the intercom in the 10C EVO. There's a lot to be said for integrated in terms of aerodynamics and balance too. That's why I've recently opted for the Cardo Packtalk Slim.
@@AndyManCam succumbed to the popular cardo pactalk then....,to expensive for me, especially as I now have to pay charges to get one shipped into the UK 🤦♂️😅 I'll stick with the Sena
But not the same one as everybody else! I’m all about style over substance nowadays!! 😂 If it works for you, stick with it mate!
I see this as a way to listen and communicate on my motorcycle while having a dashcam. I would never get this if I want to really record my rides, I just want to get from point A to B and record anything stupid that could happen in between.
For that, it’s absolutely perfect. 👍🏻
I use to have a cardo freecom 2 plus and only found it ok so change to sena sf4 and that was a great upgrade now I have the sena 50s from motointercom in italy and it is fantastic. The function I love it the ambient sound as I have lost my 4-8khz range it helps out great. Not sure if you know about the sena mesh 2.0 to make your 10c evo mesh compatible.
Glad you've found what works for you mate. I'd need to buy the mesh adapter to make the 10C EVO mesh compatible.

Many thanks KR. I just use the voice notes app that comes as default with the iphone.
One thing I find annoying about the Evo is that when it announces starting and stopping recording, it is captured in the video. Have you found a way around this?
Yep. Cut that first few seconds the video out afterwards!
Are there any other uses for this device that don't include a motorcycle helmet?
I have my 10C Evo still sitting in the box from when I originally planned to get my wife her own scooter for weekend riding but skipped all that during the pandemic happenings and never revisited it...
Whatever you can stick it too, TBH! Probably better if it’s something with a helmet. Cycling, skiing, snowboarding, rock climbing, canoeing, potholing, gokarting….

Wish sena did a UK trade in program I'd chop my 20S in for a 10C but £320 is a bit hefty at the moment definitely seems far less hassle than gopros and I've never had an issue with my 20S.

Great review, making a beginner on helmet cam decide on the Evo over the Pro. What - if anything - do you know about using this thing with a half / open face helmet?

I’m just getting into motorcycle vlogging. & I’m not technical. With this stuff & editing etc. so that being said is this the better way to go over the GoPro 8? All I want is to video & talk & go back to the house & edit it. Now the sena seems simple..smh.lol. But the video isn’t as good as the 8.& the video recording comes from the side view not like the setup you can do with the GoPro & make the viewer feel like they are riding along. So to stop the babbling on. Is this the smarter way to start vlogging. & then down the road add the GoPro? Or just go with the GoPro.8?. & I’m thinking 15-30 minutes videos to start.thanks for any feed back

Did you use the boom mic or mini mic to record the track day? How about during the primary motovlog recording of the main video? Thanks!
I used the Boom mic. With the flip up helmet and the wired mic, the noise canceling has a hard time sorting my voice from the noise because of the increased distance from my mouth to the mic.

Thanks for this fabulous review I’m new to this technology and want a combined intercom and camera. My pan America will allow me to control phone and music from the switchgear so just the camera to worry about.
Can you advise the battery pack please and if plugged it will the unit still be waterproof?
My pleasure Stuart and thanks for watching. Sadly with the battery pack connected, the waterproofing is somewhat reduced. But being low and at the back, i never worried about it unless it was a sustained downpour. A bit of blutac or silicon putty around the connector would soon solve the whole problem though. Just depends on your tolerance for faff!
Camera will shut off automatically when battery gets low allowing for the communications to still work.

Ain't vloggin just want something would work day n night, small, can put 1x front n 1x back on bike thas awl for riding security / evidence over several hours if nec. What program are you using to make your video and audio? Also how do you nysnc both videos to your audio?
I use Davinci Resolve, AP. At the start of every recording i either beep the horn, clap my hands or both. That gives me an audio spike and a visual cue that i can use for the Synchronisation.

No worries Bill. I hope you figure something out. I'm tempted to say that it's the camera function that causes the 10C EVO to behave differently. The audio beamed to the audio app is just SO much better than anything else I've ever tried with any other brand. Possibly also the lack of mesh keeps things simple too!

I'm really torn on this device, I commute through London every day (hour each way) so the camera is always good for that plus when I tour (normally with one other person) I'd use the intercom for a full day. My worry is the battery life, it looks like I couldn't do a full days commute to work without charging it at each end. And If I'm on tour and start to record will I get close to the end of the day and the intercom dies because I've recorded 45 minutes of video? All of it a bit a of a shame because it's a really good idea and I trust Sena products.
I feel your pain Stuart. The 'good' thing is that the device switches the camera off, long before the intercom dies completely. I think I managed about an hour to 90 minutes more chat after the camera switched off on one ride. But yeah, if you record 45 mins of commute, you'll definitely need a recharge to do the same on the way home. Luckily there's the powerbank option and also (which I sadly didn't explain very well) you can charge the device with it off the helmet too. So you don't need to have your lid on your desk at work all day!
Just my two cents hope this helps...I have the 10C Evo and to solve the battery life problem i got a battery pack for about 15.00 on amazon..the good thing about the sena is you can charge it while you ride...I just put the battery pack in my shirt pocket or jacket pocket and run the charging cord up to the sena and never have to worry about charging on a trip...I use mine for commuting as well and the cord doesn't interfere with the moving of your helmet...and if you have several helmets you can of course change the sena and keep using the power bank..hope this helps..

Hey man thanks for the review! I’m thinking to buy this 2ndhand. However, I noticed that the charger/mini-USB plug is facing upward. Would this be a problem when u charge it on the go under rains? Or would it get damage under rain?
Thanks Akbar. That’s something i was worried about to, but i didn’t have any problems in two years of using the intercom. I even forgot to take the cable out when it started to rain one time. I don’t think it should be left plugged in, in heavy or constant rain though.

Just wanna if there is an option that you can set up or adjust the audio quality when you're on call or using it as communicator? It has a poor audio quality when in intercom function. I can't clearly understand when somebody is talking to me...
There are a few options in the app on the phone to do with quality. You also have to consider the other persons intercom and any interference there might be in the area. While i was using this unit, with others that also had modern Senas, the quality was outstanding.

I have both Cardo and Sena but why on God's earth should you have to buy 2 systems to ride with mates? Then, of course, one turns up with a Cardo and the other with a Sena *FFS*

Many thanks Bert! Sorry to have no help to offer here. ANy possibility that you can choose the input on the recording app? With my third party camera app (Filmic) i can select the audio input and one option is 'bluetooth Mic'.
Whats the maximum length of the video it can record? As much as u have sd card? Does it split the long videos as 5min clips like GoPro does? If i have like 20 000mah battery in my backpack, is it theoretically possible to record whole day video?
Exactly that Richard. I’ve recorded entire days, using a power bank. So it’s very doable. 👍🏻
I've been using this one for about 2 years now and it's outrageously bad. it is very difficult to use especially with other types of intercoms and often I get an error while filming so my videos are often not filmed. And it's not that easy to use it could be much but much simpler.

How does music sound
Anyone here that can assist me? Ive bought the Sena 10C Evo few days ago and can't get it to connect to my phone through wifi/camera app. I changed the wifi to 2.4Ghz already to try if that would work other then the 5.0Ghz option. With no succes. I have a Xperia XZ Premium phone.
I've connected through my wifi to the sena, entered the correct password, it's connected but everytime i go back to the camera app, it says it's not connected to a camera and i need to re-do the entire setup again. Done it 11 times now and i just put the device back in the box before i smack it into a wall haha :p. Thanks in advance!

@@AndyManCam on further investigation I found out it doesn’t. Not a big deal but it would have made upgrading simpler. The 10C EVO would make an excellent everyday camera for those who use it in case of an accident and have some proof when it comes to insurance etc. It falls a bit short compared to GoPro when it comes to video as you well described. If it did then this would be some product given it records audio so well. Maybe the next generation would do the trick. Bloggers would be delighted! One thing I’d like to mention and something which this model is said to suffer from just like my 10S does, is that it doesn’t seem to be compliant with the latest USB generation of tech. When it comes to updating the firmware, things don’t work if I used my newer Dell Laptop but it did when I used my old one.
I agree that the next generation could well be the most exciting step. It would be the vloggers sweetheart! The real question is when are Cardo going to get in on the action(cam)?!
I never experienced Cardo, (almost) all the vloggers seem to favor them but my thinking is that the majority of riders go for Sena. I guess both are good. It would be ideal if either of these small companies is bought by an video industry giant such as Sony to up their game in the video department. Struggling camera companies like Olympus, Fuji or Nikon could also take a swing at getting some extra cash through this niche market. They already have the knowledge and tech.
To be entirely honest, it seems like the action cam market is a bit stagnated. I don’t think there’s much profit there. Sony haven’t made anything new for years and have even sold off all of their Video Software interests. Contour seems to have disappeared and Drift only seem to be able to create rubbish cameras. GoPro and Insta360 are the only ones really doing anything and they’re being very ‚Apple‘ about it. With all this in mind, i actually don’t believe we’ll see any great leaps here in the near future. Especially as data protection laws get ever tighter and the use of cameras is ever more controlled. 🤷🏻♂️

Thats annoying. It might have something to do with the alternate bluetooth profile that you can use you‘ll have to check the manual for that one as I’ve forgotten the details sadly. Otherwise, is it possible you can choose the microphone source in your recording app?

I've found that sometimes the order in which you connect stuff has a real impact on the quality. Also which device is the 'master'. I forgot to talk about it here, but when with TLR and Bulldog Gaz, we started with Gaz's Sena 30K as the 'Master' and then me and TLR connected to him. We had utterly terrible quality intercom. So we reset all the devices and tried again, but this time the 10C EVO was the master and the other two connected to me. After that, the audio was almost HD quality. So I guess you need to experiment a little. I also find that having bluetooth on the phone, GPS or camera when it's not needed, also sometimes interferes with the quality.

Hey ANDY "The man that knows Cam's" I use the Sena 10c Pro so I can just film then load up - no editing, my main problem is I don't get much of an exhaust sound of my Leo Vince twin pipes on my Duke 790, I thinking of just chucking an old sena under the rear cowl to see if that picks it up? can only try. Spectators and racers come to check on me got free ciggies & free cool drinks offered 10k (AUD) cash for the bike if I included the video footage as well, funny bunch mostly Lebonise with Big Turbo Rice Burners R33's R34's RX4's5's & 7's - got to love Drag racers I was heavily involved 30 years ago from GT Falcons to being part of a TopFuel Dragster team even work for the offical body ANDRA about 10 years ago, so I'll be back on track at the next event.

No, it actually doesn't. It's not as good as a Gopro, but then a Gopro has a pretty crappy intercom function. For a camera to quickly capture the odd moments without getting into extra mounts, batteries and exorbitant cost, this is more than adequate.
@@AndyManCam it does. You only can record 3 minutes of video then you can download a single minutes of video to your phone. It doesn’t let you record 30 minutes or 1 hour of videos to download to your phone.
You should check out the maxto m3s or m3 its great for the price
