    "sternum high" fixed my shoulder and chest position on all 3 lifts. I'm not a coach but I've used it to help others and it seems to work better than "chest up" because it gets you to pull shoulders down instead of just backwards .

    • @calgarybarbell
      @calgarybarbell  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Oh definitely, I think there are times where even the cues I’ve said are potentially problematic are valuable as well. Context is everything.

    I definitely agree with you on this video. When I first started learning to sumo deadlift I took all these cues too far and ended up with my groin feeling stretched to it's max and a very suboptimal pull.

    Have heard many people offer that certain body types lend more towards whether they would make a better sumo or conventional puller. Interested in your opinion. Currently 10lb difference between my sumo and conventional usually cycling a few months of conventional to sumo to trap bar.

    For Squat and Bench form check what is the best angle to the squat (in other words do you prefer parallel to the squat or head on or a 45 degree between the two?

    CALGARY SQUAAAAA 🔥
    Is having probs deadliftin’ in the first place.. I fell on my ribs last week and well, one of my ribs is cracked.. So every time I try to deadlift, the pain in my ribs is really unbearable.. Any tips on how to work around this? Or just sit it out..? 😕

    • @newguy13111

    • @calgarybarbell
      @calgarybarbell  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just find a way you can deadlift or do similar exercises that don’t cause that kind of pain. What about an SLDL? What about machine hamstring curls, or glute bridges? Might be your body will need some time to heal, but try to keep moving/lifting however you can.

    Sean Noriegas favorite cue is #1

    • @calgarybarbell
      @calgarybarbell  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And Sean’s deadlift is one where his lumbar is rounded out and his sticking point is lockout. I’m not saying that’s *wrong* either. Just not what I’d probably work towards cueing someone into. If they’re stronger/better in that style - cool. But most people will be more efficient with less lumbar flexion off the floor IMO

  • @stephaniebirkhimer162
    @stephaniebirkhimer162 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Perhaps this goes along with the "be more upright" cue, but I was surprised there wasn't anything said about "pull back". I found myself overusing and having trouble with that one, not sure if it's common or problematic for others.

    • @calgarybarbell
      @calgarybarbell  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Film your lift from the front and try to get your knees over your toes. If your knees are further in, maybe you need to push them out. If not, you’re likely just fine and don’t need to think about driving your knees out
