    Hope you guys enjoyed it!! I rushed this one out so less editing but tbh TH-cam videos that are over edited are getting old lol. What happened to good old info and quality content? Instead of making some fancy intro and deadlift montage I figured jamming it packed full on useful content was better!

      rotartlifnI no, some recommend that for lat activation but that’ll cause you to retract and pack the shoulders too much. Instead I just think bend the bar up and then drag it up. My upper back is like a crane and my legs push while I lean back and drag it up

      Do you have any mental cues for staying tight and not tipping forward when you do the slack pull? I tend to lose tightness and my slack pull when I lean back after I pull the slack as you noted in the video.

    Dude, this is golden information! Isn't this even more beneficial to do if I am pulling sumo since it's generally harder to break the floor?

      Yes! Sumo is more position dependent! It’s what makes Kristin so strong in her sumo

    This is a solid how to man, much appreciated. This is the missing link that I need to fix. I can pull the slack, but I literally lose it as soon as I wedge myself into the pull. Your how not to makes perfect sense because it is what I do every single time. Time to get back to work on this wedge with my sumo for sure.

    This is a game changer. I’ve seen a million deadlift tutorials trying to get everyone’s input and this is the first I’ve seen this but it makes a ton of sense. It’ll definitely be challenging implementing it, but my next training block is very focused on technique at reasonable intensities and efforts, so that should be the perfect time to work on this.

    This is awesome...I realized when I deadlift for reps my initial first rep is just taking the mini slack out and I rip it and grip it (struggle)...but the following reps I do the "deadlift jack" technique which my reps fly up faster. I will definitely pay more attention and practice this technique more! Thanks!

    Bro you are awesome. Literally was doing this today and you confirmed I was doing it right. Forever I always been stronger on stiff bar, and couldn’t pull for shit on deadlift bars. Max on stiff is 635, and I can barely pull 600 on deadlift bar. Great video!!!

    This is awesome content! I watched this very carefully and then I practiced it in my Week 1 Saturday session (my heaviest day, as I train Wednesday then rest for two days). Since I haven't directly trained conventional pulls for a while, I simply use the vanilla lift from the floor for this cycle. It started with a top set at 410 x 5 @ 6 and then 3 back-off fives at 370 @ 5.
    Practicing your slack pull technique during my warm-up singles had the barbell leaving the floor at 280 and everything felt very solid and smooth from the floor. Room for improvement, but I'll see how it goes over the next few weeks as the top set gets heavier. My target for Week 3 is 450 x 4 @ 7 (back-off sets at 410). Target for Week 5 = 495 x 3 @ 8-9 (back-off triples at 440).

    I’ve watched probably 100 or more tutorials on TH-cam for deadlifting the past 3 years plus have had trainers and CrossFit coaches help me with deadlift. How is it that this is the first time I’ve been exposed how to PROPERLY slack pull and be told how it works and helps? Just from watching this video twice I already know with some practice my deadlift is about to shoot up. Thank you so much for posting this!!

    Thank you for the valuable video! Very interesting to see the videos of different people with the voice over explanation. You also compare deadlift bar vs stiff bar a couple times. What do you think of using a deadlift bar in training to learn this if your working weights are quite light and will never bend a competition stiff bar? (120 kg 1RM)

    Just did my first deadlift session after watching this video. Last few months i had issues with tightness and because of that my first rep would always be sloppy. I usually see these "instant fixes" and think to myself...yea right...i tried this and it fucking worked and instantly fixed my tightness isue. Dont get me wrong i still have to practice it to get the full benefit, but after first try i see the segnificant difderence.

    Have been trying to lift 160 kg with proper technique but always ended up rounding my back. Saw this one vid and was able to do it for the first time with almost no rounding. This is really cool stuff!

    This help me realized why my deadlift was so off when I deadlifted at home compared to deadlift at la fitness it’s because the bumper plates elevate the bar more so I probably wasn’t pulling the slack right and this video helped me up my form way more

    I feel it all in my lumbar pulling slack and elongating the arms/shoulders just before wedging down. So you essential doing a crap form deadlift to get all the tension in your body then when shins come in contact you push up? Will try just getting the pretensioning down without getting into lower back. Great video.

    My deadlift pr is 556 but I KNOW I’m leaving weight on the bar due to my inconsistencies with slack pull. I 100% give the slack “back” when I go to wedge. Your cue to lean back after the slack pull made things so clear, GREAT video. 600 is on the way in no time!
