- I get so many comments suggesting different speedruns and challenges to do. Most of them are not that good but every once in a while you guys suggest something that's surprisingly good... or so bad that it's good. Today we're trying those ideas once again! Enjoy the video and subscribe!

The chess part was really cool. The only change I think would be good is not resetting Odyssey for every new chess game so you don't just do the first few kingdoms every time.
It would also mean you could plan a route where you throw the first game to get more moons for the next two games or throw the second game to do the same. It would be an amazing event to watch

I think for Chess% multimoons should only count for one chess move, otherwise whoever beats madame brood first has a guaranteed win if they move their e-pawn after getting the first story moon. (Qh5, Qxf7, Qxe8 or Bb5, Bxd7, Bxe8 both capture the king on the fourth move, and there's no single move the opponent can play for their first story moon that can stop both)
Is this considering that you have to move 3 different pieces with the Multi Moon? With the app we used there is a cooldown so on things like multi-moons you weren't allowed to move the same piece multiple times.
I'll be honest, when I came up with the idea of a chess%, I thought you would go against a bot, not another player. The way Fir interpreted it was so much better lol

it's not a literal chess game
if it was the real chess, racing for moons would make 0 sense because of turns forcing you to wait for the opponent to move
the game instead is a game mode of free movement chess, where you can literally move all pieces at once like if it was a real war scenario, with free movement like that, it's required to outright kill the king otherwise it wouldn't make sense to just checkmate them on a free move mode, so rules are ofc in requirement to be changed to fit this meme game mode
ya'll should do a best of 3 chess tournament with a bunch of speedrunners to see who is the best Mario chess speedrunner

I also think it would be more fun if the run doesn’t reset when a chess game ends. You’d have to plan your route based on which games you need the moves in. You could throw one game to set up more moves for the next one and would add another layer of strategy.

Pay2Win% would actually be an interesting category *if* you had multiple runners. Walking everywhere *is* boring, but if you walk everywhere, then the person who does only one shortcut jump gets the lead, which incentivizes you to do 2, then them 3, and so on until the logical conclusion is you try to do the normal speedrun as close as possible, but have to either make detours to pick up coins, or get a *lot* more economical with your movement.
I wish you hadn't dismissed it as quickly as you seem to, it would be a really good one for you to invite another runner to join you, since you'd be wondering the entire time how much they are using normal movement mechanics vs conserving coins, and where they are making detours to pick them up. I do think it requires a careful balance of costs, maybe scaling with how many moons you have collected either in whole or per world, to encourage really thinking about your route and what stars you want to spend the precious early coins in each level on.
Alternatively, just making each moon require an increasing number of coins to collect would also be a good interpretation of the category, it still allows full movement while requiring different pathing of the run. Plus, it's technically canon to the Mario franchise - see any Mario Party game.
The Chess% idea has some real legs to it.
I'd love to see that turned into a bracketed tournament or something.
Maybe have each round start in a different kingdom?
Sphinx% was so evil, there were so many unnecessary roadblocks added in and I love it
Now I’m wondering if Amy can mod Among Us into SMO. Just redo that 8 player any% route that’s on CJ’s channel, but 2 players can kill anyone with a single cap throw, and they play on a 100% file, so they have to fake collecting moons.

Chess% was pretty cool and I kinda want to see it again.
I think it'd also be pretty hype if instead of restarting the run every time you lose you simply continue from where both players are, which could make Sand Kingdom kinda hectic lol
That makes actually a really good fix there, not resetting would really overturn some strats.
I think coin% would have been interesting as a race where your need to go faster than your opponent counteracts the incentive to walk everywhere.
Cacti%: Count all cacti in Sand Kingdom except for sub areas 😂
Even better: *destroy* all cacti in Sand Kingdom except sub areas
Bodyguard%: Get one of your speedrunner friends to be your bodyguard (I would recommend they wear the sunshine cap and new donk city suit) You can NOT attack any enemy and can only access things to move on with the story while your bodyguard has to protect you from any sort of damage (if you take damage this run you have to start over) However the bodyguard can NOT interact with anything to move the story forward other than bosses or enemies

Austin's series about being a pencil-pushing bureaucrat in video game towns taking the work census is one of my fav things of all time, actually entertaining with how stoic and mundane it feels.
Amy is just so cool with the moddings.
Idea: What about a Jeopardy race?
Same as Jeopardy, but instead of trivia questions they're hint arts (or just hints). And instead of one "question" at a time, everyone picks something on the grid and then just GOES.
Once a hint gets picked, it's off the grid for anyone else to take. You get only one guess for each moon. Guess right and you get points. Guess wrong and you lose points.
So it's kind of like lockout but you get hints instead of goals? Seems like a cool idea

I think the red light green light would've been much better if it just listened for input rather than Mario's movement.
Hangman% and Chess% were really creative. Playing chess when the moves aren't turned based is crazy.

What a bunch of great ideas! Whoever thought of chess% is a genius! (and you can use that idea for pretty much any 2 player game.. Or heck don't limit yourself to 2 player games!
Imagine 8 people playing Monopoly where you can only roll the dice after each moon.
Fashion%: Before collecting any additional moons for a kingdom, you have to find enough purple coins and buy the kingdom’s outfit; change into it before you continue the run. run ends when you beat bowser.
Overflow% every time Mario collects a moon he gets bigger

You must challenge everyone you know to Chess%
Also idea: keep a save or something that is at the very start of different worlds (or just no moves until both people reach the second world). So you can start a chess% at a different world.

Every sound effect Mario makes charges you a coin (excluding footsteps if you need)

Teleport%: Every time you get a moon you teleport somewhere random. You can teleport to any kingdom and anywhere in that kingdom. Once you beat the final bowser boss you win and you don’t need to complete every kingdom.
Anxiety% basically every minute your controls randomize
Actions%: You have to do whatever action Mario is doing in real life. (Motion controls are disabled) (you use detached joycons)
Npc% talk to every single npc in the game. Game ends when you have talked to every single one of them
Golf%: Every moon you collect, you play 1 stroke in Wii Sports Resort Golf. Run is completed after finishing a round of 18 holes.
- Multi moons can count as either 1 or 3 strokes, depending on whether you want to challenge yourself.
- Buying moons from shops only count the first moon you buy from each shop.
- Jump rope and volleyball moons give 1 additional stroke each.
- Hitting the ball out of bounds or into water require 2 moons before you can take the next stroke (hazard stroke penalty).
Controller% : every time you finish a story section of a kingdom you change how you play the game. (Example: finish cap kingdom on hand held, switch to on big screen.) "This includes all necessary story moons. And kingdom changes/progression."
All captures% you just capture everything
Allsheep% complete all the sheep rounding up moons
Broodals% beat all broodal boss fights
Genocide% kill every enemy you see or you die
Bosstrap% Every moon has a 50% chance to teleport you to a random boss fight. When you beat the boss, it gives no moons and you will be teleported back to where you were before it started.
Now I want "Cactus%" where you find/rate every cactus in Sand

Hangman% would be fun if you had to start a new puzzle every time you finished one, and if you fail a puzzle, you have to restart the run
Public Enemy%:
Beat the game saving the least amount of kingdoms possible, for example, leave Sand Kingdom in night, leave snow kingdom in a blizzard, etc
You should do a cacti% where you find all 131 cacti. I am interested where they are and it be interesting to see you take on the challenge. Also love the videos, keep up the great work Fir.
Physics%: Beat the game performing as many clips as possible, thus breaking the laws of physics
Idea: Sick mod: Mario is sick and sneezes every 10-30 seconds causing him to bonk. Mario’s speed and jump are decreased by 25%, Mario only has one life and gets cold super fast. Also if you wanted to every time you something sick related you would sneeze.
Classic% the run only ends during one of the following confitions:1. getting the Jump Man Suit. 2. Getting the Luigi Suit. 3. Getting the 64 Suit. 4. Getting the Metal Cap Suit. It has to be one of these.
Mole%: Each time you touch the ground, a dog spawns, but the dog is 2x as small. Make it so the dog can teleport too bcs why not. The dog can’t kill you btw. Also make it so the dog can grab your cappy for 5 seconds.
Super Mario Odyssey but there's an ingame daylight cycle & you have to play Minecraft during the night.

Crazy thing,i was JUST this last week (since a year and some change ago) catching onto odyssey content again from guys like you,smallant and cjya and really enjoyed rewatching the viewer ideas speedrun videos from like a year ago or so. Just so happens in this time frame this video releases lol. Nice
IRS%: you have to pay 30% of every moon, regular coin, and purple coin to the IRS.
Pokémon%:
Touch every Pokémon type, speed run ends once you get every type
Language%. Every moon changes your language. Before each moon, guess the language the game will change into. Timing ends when you correctly guess the language.

In every kingdom from cap to mushroom you need to collect 1000 coins and as many purple coins as possible, than spend every last one on costumes, if you don't spend them all you need to reset the run but keep the timer on. cap and cascade don't count

Sphynx%: Answer every question by the sphynx in the base game, including the one in darker side.

I just want to point out how kinda funny but also kinda cool I find it that so many TH-camrs shout out or talk about how they like Any Austin's content. This is not the first time I've seen someone talk about him.
I think the best part of pencil% was, amid you freaking out the whole time, you actually learned how to use the medium better, like with controlling the colors bleeding and using lighter colors first.
I like Chess% and i think it would be a cool collab idea for a 2v2 where a chess youtuber is paired up with an Odyssey speedrunner so that both games are played at a high level.

I think sphinx was my favourite out of those. Amethyst really outdid herself with it! And I love that the answers were swapped and Fir actually needed to think about them lol
First of all i love chess %, that was hilarious!
Second a little tipp for using watercolours: use a little water to mix the paint until you get tiny bubbles, than it's not so watery and doesn't bleed so easily.
Grid% on the map there are 25 different quadrants that make up the kingdom. for each kingdom you may only step into 5 of these quadrants. ( I don't know if this is actually possible but you get the idea)
Try doing what I call capture collect% where you must have the moon collected animation while being in a capture. Only time you can bypass this rule is when you cannot further progress the game.
That's just min mario.
To fix the one where actions cost coins, you could maybe make it so something bad happens if you only walk? Maybe the breath meter appears if you simply walk for a few seconds, so you've got more incentive to do other, less bad movement techniques?

Mario's movements are entirely inverted (cap throw goes behind mario, long jumps send him behind, etc) and you play the game in reverse order
New speedrun category for fir: bob % a black entity named bob floats toward you slowly and if he touches you it kills mario. He always takes the most efficient route

Normal Day%, recreate your daily schedule in Mario Odyssey. Timer starts when you jump up from the sleeping animation and ends when you go to bed and it plays the sleeping animation. The Odyssey will represent your bedroom, and you can travel between kingdoms. For food, you can just pretend to eat them. You can just go onto a random pipe and somehow crouch on it without going down the pipe to represent you going to your bathroom. If streaming is in your regular schedule, start a new file and speed run odyssey until the Festival. Hope you like it!

I feel like the strat with chess% is to get your three moves, and then wait for your opponent to use their three moves. If they try to go for your king, you can defend. If not, once they use their moves, you go for their king. I think it's less about getting moons as quickly as possible and more about timing your moves, waiting to see what your opponent does. But hey, that's probably only one strat of many. You honestly should consider doing that one again.
I want to see more of the chess + odyssey or other variations of it. It reminds me of bingo. Super fun to watch

Poke%:
Any boss battle, minor enimy or any kind of fight is now turn based and you have a pokemon like moveset, the moons are levles and every moon gives you a chance to remove a move for a new move,
Moves r re randomized after every kingdom
Travel%: Play the game as normal, but it takes real hours to travel between kingdoms in the Odyssey based on the distance between them on the map. Something to do on/off while you’re doing other challenges :P
The Chess% one was legit good honestly lol.
Should do it again sometime but like have a different starting point.
Reverse%:
Play the game backwards starting from moon kingdom to cap kingdom with the bosses being backwards. Example: for moon kingdoms boss you fight the first boss: Topper

Total drama% (have you seen the cartoon?) Everytime mario dies, he has to do an obstacle course. If he completes the course,he gets a marshmallow and he will continue where he left off. If you lose , he gets no marshmallow and resets the run.
Do % % which is just to make a % symbol in the ground as fast as possible in every kingdom
Do pencil % but in 100%
Draw every INDIVIDUAL capture, song, kingdom. (OPTIONAL ONE: draw every moon and its placement) you can take some stuff off if it takes to long. (what i mean by individual capture, kingdom, song, is because you only need to draw them once. If you drew them once and have their capture, you can use it anytime without needing to draw it again.)
You do not need to use watercolors. You can just use something easier like pencils, pencil crayons, or markers.
Jump%
Mario can only jump around (dive counts as a jump) and cappy dive around the kingdoms. The run ends when you beat lost kingdom.

Bruh I never knew there was a possibility to have different gamemodes in chess. You could have a dice to determine how many moves you get in a row but both players can roll at the same time so you can actually dodge and chase pieces across the board
